ABSTRACT Objective: To understand the perception of nurse managers about the functionally-readapted worker. Methods: Descriptive study with qualitative approach, whose data were collected in from November 2016 to April 2017, through interviews with 14 nurse managers of a university hospital. The content analysis analysis was applied to interpret the speeches. Results: The reports converged into three categories, which revealed the impact on the management of the nursing staff, the management of the limitations of the readapted worker, and the regular follow-up planning for him. Final considerations: Nurse managers are clear that readapted workers need special attention, so that their potentialities mat be maximized, respecting the workers’ limitations. Readapted workers must be encouraged to resume their self-esteem, identity, autonomy, and feel socially included.

Aim: To expose the challenges faced by mothers of newborn babies who  are  submitted  to  phototherapy  treatment  in  a  rooming-in setting.  Methods:  A descriptive  study,  using  a  qualitative  approach,  conducted  by  interviewing  10  mothers whose babies experienced neonatal phototherapy while rooming-in between the months of June and October of 2014 in a public health institution in the city of Rio de Janeiro. Bardin’s Content Analysis was used for analysis. Results: Three analytical categories emerged: Mothers’ feelings  and  reactions towards  phototherapy treatment; The  lack  ofknowledge when facing a new reality and The healthcare team as a support network for the mothers. Discussion: Despite the simplicity of phototherapy treatment, it makes the mothers  feel  negative  emotions  such  as  anguish,  sadness  and  guilt.  Conclusion:  The nursing staff must be prepared to hear and guide the mothers throughout phototherapy, taking   into   consideration   that   it   is   a   negative   experience   during   the   newborn hospitalization.

Background Developing a professional identity is rooted in the dimensions of professionalism and professional development. Moreover, the need for teaching professionalism has a mutual relationship with the formation of a desirable professional identity. Aim The current study aimed at developing a professionalism manual for the nurse managers to improve their perception regarding professionalism and professional identity. Design Quasi-experimental research design with pre-test, post-test, and follow-up was used. Setting The study was conducted at two different hospitals; Menoufia University hospital and Al-helal Insurance hospital, Menoufia Governorate, Egypt. Subjects The participants included all nurse managers at different levels from the two different hospitals ( n =100). Tools: tool 1: Professionalism Questionnaire and tool 2: Professional Identity Assessment Questionnaire were used to collect data. Results there was a statistically significant improvement in professionalism perception and professional identity level immediately after administering the professionalism manual and after three months in the follow-up phase than the pre-test phase. Additionally, there was a statistically significant positive correlation between two variables of the study at the post and follow-up phases, but not significant at the pre-test phase. Conclusion the professionalism manual was effective in improving nurse managers’ perceptions regarding professionalism and professional identity. Recommendations: Incorporate the attributes of professionalism that were included in the professionalism manual as a guide for the performance review processes of nurses.

Abstract 18-flurodesoxyglucose position emission tomography (FDG-PET) with computed tomography (CT) or magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is a broadly accepted tool for pretherapeutic staging and post-therapeutic assessment of response. The prognostic value of sequential post-therapeutic FDG-PETs and the impact of change in metabolic activity has been scarcely reported so far. We hypothesized that an increase in metabolic activity (as measured by maximum standardized uptake value, SUVmax) would be predictive for recurrence. We retrospectively assessed all oral, oropharyngeal, laryngeal, and hypopharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma patients treated at the Department of Otorhinolaryngology—Head and Neck Surgery, University Hospital Zurich between April 1st, 2010 and September 30th, 2018 (N = 337). After a negative post-treatment FDG-PET at 3 months, we measured the SUVmax of the local tumor area and the regional lymph nodes on follow-up FDG-PET at 9 months. We then correlated SUVmax difference between 9 and 3 months with tumor recurrence using Kaplan Meier analysis. During follow-up, 68 patients (20.2%) had local recurrence and 53 had regional recurrence (15.7%) at a median time of 9.0 (IQR 4.25–14) and 7.0 (IQR 5.25–23) months, respectively. An increase in local and/or regional SUVmax from the 3 months to the 9 months post-therapeutic FDG-PET resulted in a poorer recurrence-free survival (Log rank, P = 0.001, for both). An increase in local SUVmax between 3 and 9 months was associated with a hazard ratio of 4.17 for recurrence (95%CI 1.89–9.2, P = 0.0003). In conclusion, an increase in metabolic activity/SUVmax between two post-therapeutic FDG-PETs requires a histological examination as it is associated with tumor recurrence.

Abstract Introduction: One variable that has been consistently associated with adolescents’ physical activity is perceived activity competence. Perceived physical (or sport) competence is considered a sub-domain to the physical self-esteem or self-worth (i.e., a person’s valuation of what is good and worthy in their self-description). Objective: This study aimed to describe levels of and inter-correlations among physical self-esteem, physical activity, and body mass index in a longitudinal design spanning adolescence to early adulthood. Materials and methods: At mean ages of 12.7, 15.7, 17.7 and 22.7 years, we measured perceived physical self-esteem in 39 (22 boys) Swedish adolescents. Physical activity (steps/day) for four consecutive schooldays, height, and weight were also measured. Results: No significant difference between the four time points for any variable of perceived physical self-esteem was seen, neither in boys nor girls. In general, all physical self-variables revealed non-linear trajectories across time, where the general trend was an increase during the younger ages followed by a decrease during older ages. At ages 12 and 15 years in boys and girls physical condition and physical strength as well as body attractiveness and physical strength, respectively, had the strongest correlations to physical self-esteem. At age 17 and 22 years sports competence had the strongest correlation to self-esteem in girls, while body attractiveness and physical strength had the strongest correlation to self-esteem in boys. Conclusion: An overall stability in physical self-esteem was found. However the impact of a sub-domain upon physical self-esteem vary during adolescence and early adulthood. Such information may be useful when creating physical activity programs that support and develop physical self-esteem.

The purpose of this study was to understand the post-discharge needs of violently injured patients and their families to improve health outcomes and reduce the impact of gun violence. We recruited 10 patients from the trauma registry of a Midwestern university hospital with a Level 1 Trauma Center (L1TC). After obtaining the informed consent, semi-structured, face-to-face, in-depth interviews were conducted. Discussions focused on post-discharge needs and resources to facilitate the recovery and rehabilitation process, and aid in community reintegration. Interviews were audiotaped and transcribed verbatim. Transcripts were analyzed thematically in stages of open, axial, and selective coding methods. Seven main themes were identified at the hospital and community level. These included the following: (a) feeling stigmatized by hospital personnel, (b) patient–provider communication, (c) feeling discharged too soon, (d) issues in obtaining medicines, (e) challenges with Chicago Police Department, (f) transportation to trauma center for follow-up care, and (g) concerns with returning back to the community. Patients reported the need for mental health counseling for themselves and their family, more follow-up, and help with financial paperwork among others. For the victims of gun violence, there exists a chasm between injury and care, and an even wider one between care and rehabilitation. The findings can inform health care, social workers, and rehabilitation professionals in their efforts to better address the myriad of unmet needs pre- and post-discharge. For trauma centers, the identified needs provide a template for developing an individualized- and community-centered resource pathway to improve outcomes and reduce suffering for this particularly vulnerable subset of patients.

The purpose of our quasi-experimental study was to examine the impact of the Girls on the Run (GOTR) program on multidimensional self-concept and attitudes toward fat. Young girls (N= 21) participated in a 12-week running program designed to increase their running ability, self-esteem, and, in general, their emotional, social, and mental well-being. It was hypothesized that girls would experience favorable changes in their global self-esteem, appearance, peer, physical, and running self-concepts and their attitudes toward fat. The overall RM-ANOVA examining for pre to post differences was significant, F(13, 8) = 26.46, p < .001, η2 = .977, and follow-up within subjects contrasts revealed three significant differences: Physical, F(1, 20) = 6.24, p < .02, η2 = .24, and running self-concept, F(1, 20) = 11.18, p< .003, η2 = .36, as well as fear of fat, F(1, 20) = 4.37, p < .049, η2 = .18, were all significant with meaningful effect sizes. These findings provided preliminary support for the major goal of the GOTR program, enhancing physical and running self-concept with some support for secondary gains in nonphysical ability areas (i.e., reductions in fear of fat).

Abstract Background Rouen University Hospital implements a policy of health promotion hospital since 2016. The objective of this study was to evaluate prospectively the impact of physical activity promotion in hospital health workers (HW), using pedometers over a period of six months. Methods Physical activity was measured by electronic pedometers distributed to HW, with the aim to improve their physical activity and to measure it during six months. Online questionnaires collected at different points of follow-up, from inclusion to sixth month (a total of seven points of follow-up). Socio-demographic and characteristics on type of health work were collected as well as the number of steps and the behavior regarding their routine physical activity. Results A total of 680 HW were included in the cohort. The sex ratio M:W was 0.16. The mean age was 41.6 years (SD = 10.7). 44.0% were non-medical caregivers, 32.1% were in administrative section, 14.3% were technical workers and 9.7% were physicians or pharmacists; 53.7% of HW reported doing sport regularly. At inclusion the mean number of daily steps was 8662. The mean progression for all professional profiles between first week and sixth month was of 1082 steps daily, with difference according to position: 1319 in physicians, 1234 in non-medical caregivers, 1106 in administrative workers and 314 in technical workers. In linear regression model, the mean number of progression of daily steps was 964 in physicians, 752 in non-medical caregivers. Conclusions The study shows a significant increase in the number of daily steps measured objectively using an incentive tool, as pedometer during six months of intervention. Further researches are needed to determine if these changes are sustainable over a long period of time Key messages Despite high level of daily steps at baseline, the longitudinal study shows an increase of daily steps over a 6-month period. Such public health intervention is a relevant method to engage people in self-monitoring their physical activity.

This article purports to examine how the expectations of the educational reforms in Moroccan higher education have impacted the teaching and testing of tertiary level grammar. In particular, the hypothesis we defend here is that teaching and testing tertiary level grammar remain constant; therefore, the impact of the various reforms on tertiary level testing is of little consequence. In pursuance of this aim, this paper uses a qualitative approach and content analysis method of the course descriptions of the grammar courses that were suggested across the various reforms. The course descriptions we attempt to analyze are adopted in the English Studies tracks of four major departments in Moroccan universities. The main dimensions that we look at and examine here as the measures for our comparative evaluation are; course objectives, time allotted, the syllabi they contain, teaching methodology, and evaluation modes. The findings confirm that the various reforms, have had little impact on the teaching and testing of grammar in higher education. The paper concludes by suggesting a few pedagogical recommendations vis-à-vis the teaching and testing of grammar in Moroccan Departments of English studies.
