ABSTRACT Objective: In order to understand the experiences of women with breast cancer managing fatigue due to chemotherapy with the use of non-pharmacological strategies. Methods: Explanatory study, qualitative, with theoretical reference of medical anthropology and resources of the ethnographic method for data collection; in which four women took part. Thematic analysis was performed based on interviews and conducted observations. Results: Three strategies of self-care, resulted from the culture were used for physical fatigue management: rest, energy conservation and eat habits. Physical activities, contact with plants and religiosity were constituted as practices to deal with emotional fatigue. We understand that the meaning attributed to the use of non-pharmacological strategies was the possibility of feeling capable, confident and able to continue treatment. Conclusions and implications for practice: These woman’s experiences revealed the following necessities, the use of specific strategies to deal with fatigue, as well as the appreciation and understanding of their singularities and cultural practices present in their contexts. In the nursing care, it is possible to associate these practices with scientific knowledge and thus complement the care in favor of an integral care.

Objective: to interpret the meanings attributed by men with prostate cancer to the experience regarding their bodies and masculinities during illness. Method: ethnographic research with 17 men, guided by the narrative method and theoretical framework of medical anthropology and masculinities. The information was collected through recorded interviews, direct observation and field diary records, which were analyzed by inductive thematic analysis. Results: men undergo body and identity transformations when they get sick with prostate cancer, transiting through multiple masculinities, resigning their actions, and occupying subordinate positions in relation to other healthy bodies, which are marginalized in their social relationships and allied with regard to establishing their affective relationships. Conclusion: this evidence enhances and deepens the knowledge disclosed in the literature and contributes to the strengthening of nursing care actions when dealing with the sick.

This is a qualitative study of an exploratory nature that aims to identify the strategies used by nurses in primary care, in situations involving nursing care, to promote self-esteem, autonomy and self-care practices for people with chronic wounds. The study included eight nurses. Data were collected by means of a focus group in July 2012. The thematic analysis technique was used to identify the following categories: Nursing care from the perspective of comprehensiveness; Recovering support networks: family and social movements; Multidisciplinary work; Autonomy and nurses. The nano-silver antibacterial dressing is processed and formed after being expanded and cut by medical degreased gauze and nano-silver solution. The nano-silver content is 0.4%–1.0% of the dressing mass (the nano-silver content per square meter of the dressing is 0.28–0.7 g). Nano silver plays an auxiliary role in reducing wound infections. This study is the first to report the rehabilitative effect of enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) management combined with nano antibacterial dressing in the perioperative period of gynecological cancer. The times until first exhaust, first defecation, ambulation, and the duration of hospitalization of the ERAS group were shorter than in the regular group. The VAS scores at 6 and 12 h after operation in the ERAS group were lower than those in the regular group. The levels of self-responsibility, self-concept, self-care skills, and health knowledge in the ERAS group were higher than those in the regular group. The total incidence of complications in the ERAS group was 9.09%, which was lower than that in the regular group (23.64%). The level of satisfaction with nursing care in the ERAS group was 98.18%, which was higher than that in the regular group (83.64%). The findings confirmed that ERAS combined with nano antibacterial dressing can promote the rehabilitation of patients, relieve pain, strengthen the self-care ability of patients, reduce the occurrence of complications, and improve satisfaction with nursing care.

ABSTRACT The study aimed to characterize nurses' needs for scientific knowledge that supports nursing care in clinical practice of child health primary care. An exploratory and qualitative study was undertaken, grounded in health care and longitudinality of nursing care for children, based on interviews with 35 nurses from family health services with thematic analysis of the data. The results indicate the need to use child evaluation, family guidance, clinical protocols, care management and partnership among health professionals, which imply a range of knowledge, in order to trigger effective and problem-solving care actions. Practice based on professional knowledge and the subjects' needs can enhance care, with benefits for children, families and the institutional organization. It is vital for nurses to take responsibility for their own practice, continuously examining ways to deliver care for and remain up to date.

There is a shift in emphasis in nursing care of the mentally retarded child in the community. Firstly, the child must be identified and then his condition is evaluated, usually by a multi-disciplinary team. A decision must then be made whether the child will be cared for in the community. The nurse assists the parent or guardian in training for independence which includes self-care, use of toilet, personal hygiene, and dressing. Training in various perceptual and motor skills are also included in the nursing care plan. The nurse makes follow-up visits to evaluate progress and adapts the nursing care plan as necessary. She also has an important role in encouraging and guiding the parents. Nursing the mentally retarded child in the community requires specialised knowledge — and a lot of love.

The objective was to understand the perspective of nurses about the participation of the family in palliative cancer care and to analyze the nursing care strategies to meet their needs. Descriptive and qualitative research, conducted at the National Cancer Institute between January and March 2013, with 17 nurses. Elements of the Roy Adaptation Model were used for the interpretation of the data. Two categoriesemergedfrom the thematic analysis: perspective of nurses about the presence and valuation of family in the hospital; and appointing strategies to encourage family participation in care and meet their needs. This participation is essentialand represents a training opportunity for the purpose of homecare. Nurses create strategies to encourage it and seek to meet the needs. The results contribute to promote the family adaptation and integrity, in order to balance the dependent and independent behaviors, aimingfor quality of life and comfort. Further studies are neededdue to the challenges of the specialty.
