Abstract:Currently is visible the need for a methodological renewal, that is, the need for a reform of the education system focused on teacher education, for a model focused on active learning of students. To perform this difficult methodological transition, numerous studies opt for the use of active methodologies. This work, written in the framework of an Educational Innovation Project of the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU), aims to determine the effectiveness and validity of several cooperative techniques, implemented in different subjects, courses and specialties in the Faculty of Education and Sports of Vitoria-Gasteiz, starting from the analysis of the assessments about the techniques made by students. The results, collected through questionnaires, point to an excellent acceptance of the techniques used by the students; confirming its effectiveness in the development of active and cooperative learning, and confirming the importance of the selection of each technique according to the teaching objectives, as well as its modification and adaptation to these and to the group or subject in which it was implemented.

Universities contribute to the creation of a knowledgeable and skilled national workforce. The world over, universities are hailed as one of the old forms of organizations that have been instrumental in contributing to the development of many nations by producing skilled and intellectual human resources needed to produce goods and services. For this role fulfillment, the universities must ensure student satisfaction as students are the core of the very existence of universities and most important stakeholders in the higher education scenario. Moreover, student satisfaction is likely to enhance not only the better teaching-learning process, knowledge transfer, but also the competitiveness of the universities. This is all the more relevant and probably the best way to adopt for the university to play their role effectively and also is competitive in emerging economies. Hence, adopting a quantitative descriptive cross-sectional research methodology, this study aims to deliberate on how student satisfaction is the right approach and can drive university competitiveness.

This article explores the relevance of journalism education in Nepal based on personal observations of university teaching-learning practices. In particular, I focus on the triangular relationship between corporate, educational socioeconomic challenges of journalism/media education. I also analyze the recent trend of journalism and mass communication education in Nepal shedding light on the challenges of Nepalese media education system especially in the university level. I further suggest how media educators help determine what news is (not), and at the same time describe avenues for engaging media educators, policy makers and content producers for meeting the market demands.

ABSTRACT

The gender perspective in the curricula of Degree in the Teacher Training School of Vitoria-Gasteiz.

This research describes an innovative educational experience focused on the treatment given to a gender based training that is being conducted in the new degrees of the University College of Teacher Training of Vitoria-Gasteiz. The path choosen to introduce the gender perspective is based on the results of a previous research carried out by the present school management team. This research is within the Implementation and Monitoring of the Improvement Actions´ Plan (PISAM) of the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU) in 2009, which has been chosen among other projects because of its proposal about doing a diagnosis related to the gender achievements of the mentioned University College. The research underlined the need to introduce the coeducation in the new curricula, and it was specified in this proposal. This project works on gender training as a cross curricular subject, using modular assignments and complementary activities to train and raise students´ awareness that are integrated in the core subjects of the Pre-school and Primary Education Degrees. This article gathers the results obtained in the first and second curses of the grade. The next step will be to elaborate the research tools that will enable to analyse whether the needs detected by the students have been satisfied. These students formed the community who marked the beginning of this.

In this letter, the number 3 of 2020 of the Journal of Management and Business Education is introduced. A brilliant article and a suggestive line of research by Professor Enrique Bigne head the number. His work introduces us to a new perspective, current, and with a great projection of the future, which is the necessary customization of the teaching-learning process in Business and Management, assisted by technology and the constant innovations in teaching and learning. In addition, the number includes a relevant contribution by the professors of the University of the Basque Country UPV-EHU, with its IKASEKIN model, formulated as an integral learning for the development of innovative capacity, and which received the Educational Innovation Award of XXXIII AEDEM Annual Congress, held in June 2019 in Seville. Other interesting contributions included in the number refer to the implications of new methodological tools that increasingly appear as protagonists in our classrooms, such as gamification or interactive digital applications to maintain attention and the motivation of the students in their learning.

Abstract: Introduction: The challenges brought by the continuity of the university teaching-learning process in the face of the measures to combat the pandemic of COVID-19 made the debate on the use of information and communication technologies (ICT) in medical education more important. Several strategies were used by teachers worldwide to continue their teaching activities. Objective: to investigate the strategies and uses of ICT in medical education in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic. Method: Five databases were systematically assessed, using the terms “COVID-19”, “medical education”, “higher education” and “students”, in Portuguese, English and Spanish, resulting in 321 initial citations, with 18 final references after applying the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Result: Four key topics were identified in the literature: (1) Challenges for Medical Education prior to COVID-19; (2) Challenges in migrating to remote education; (3) Strategies to overcome challenges related to the learning environment; and (4) Strategies to overcome challenges related to assessments and exams. Conclusion: The use of ICT in medical education in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic showed to be especially important, with considerations regarding the improvement in areas that were already used, the migration of some more articulated areas and experiences in clinical and procedural disciplines. There was also concern about the impacts of using ICT to replace the in-person presence of students in medical learning environments.

The idea, proposed in this work, is that who are introducing educational innovation in University teaching should focus more on the renewal of a curriculum more than in a single course's changes. University teaching innovation often focuses on the changes introduced within a single discipline through the adoption of some educational technologies or new teaching-learning-evaluation methods, keeping the focus only on the single discipline and not on the curriculum as a whole. With reference to the work of Ronald Harden about the eight roles of the university teacher, we underline the role of Curriculum developer and implementer. Six models are proposed to classify the introduction of innovative curricula. The different ways by which Problem Based Learning was introduced in university curricula are described as examples of the six models.
