The article presents a structural description of the functioning of the regional information and communication system “Student and Labor” (SAL). This system is aimed at identifying and developing creatively gifted youth in the field of science, techniques and technology and is focused on the gradual involvement of university students in real work and interaction with leading enterprises in the region. The first cycle of the SAL system functioning is described, which has a complete character and has already led to a concrete result. The bank of information about the leading enterprises of the region that took part at the initial stage of the functioning of the SAL system were formed as well as the bank of 150 themes of scientific research for student projects, which were proposed by the enterprises themselves. All projects are focused on the practical significance of research for the enterprises themselves, as well as for students, their supervisors from universities and scientific consultants from enterprises that have embarked on joint research activities, which at the first stages are mostly of informational and educational nature. The Union of Employers of the Samara Region and the Council of Rectors of Universities in the Samara region are already taking the necessary measures to implement the described cycle of the functioning of the system SAL in the current academic year.

This study dealt with the attitudes of university students of Batubara towards Batubara Malay language. The data were collected from 20 university students of Batubara in Medan. The instruments used for collecting the data were observation sheet, questionnaire sheet and depth interview. The data were analyzed by Moleong’s theory. The findings showed that the respondents’ attitudes were: 12 (60%) negative and 8 (40%) positive. The attitudes levels of university students included in negative and positive attitudes namely in: receiving 11 (55%) negative and 9 (45%) positive, responding 12 (60%) negative and 8 positive, valuing 10 (50%) negative and 10 (50%)  positive,  organizing 12 (60%) positive and 8 (40%) negative, and internalizing values 12 (60%) negative and 8 (40%) positive. The factors influenced the university students’ attitudes were language disloyalty 12 (60%) negative and 8 (40%) positive, language pride lack 14 (70%) negative and 7 (30%) positive, in the unawareness of the norms 11 (55%) negative and 9 (45%) positive. Bahasa Indonesia is dominantly spoken by the university students of Batubara in Medan which caused they have less frequency in using their Batubara Malay language with their friends who are from same region in Medan. The purpose of this study is to observe: (1) Gender difference in mental health literacy of Yogyakarta State University students and (2) Differences in mental health literacy of Yogyakarta State University students based on vignette character’s gender. The type of this study was factorial survey. In this study, respondents were presented with short descriptions called vignette that were constructed and contained elements that had been manipulated by the researcher to control certain variables, namely gender and mental disorders that the characters had. Then, subjects were asked to answer closed questions (Mental Health Literacy Test) based on the vignettes. The subjects in this study were 377 undergraduate students from Yogyakarta State University. The sampling techniques used in this study were cluster random sampling and incidental sampling. Chi-Square was performed to analyze the data. The results of this study indicated that: (1) There were gender differences in mental health literacy aspect positive attitudes toward professional help where more male respondents did not recommend seeking professional help for depression (2) There were differences in mental health literacy aspects knowledge about the causes of mental disorders and positive attitudes towards professional help based on gender vignette characters for depression.

University students from southern Alberta (n = 585) were administered a questionnaire to assess their gambling behaviour. Seventy-two percent reported gambling in the past 6 months, with the most common types being lotteries and instant win tickets (44%) and games of skill against other people (34%). Most students who gambled spent very little time and money doing so (median time spent = 1.5 hrs; median amount of money spent = $0). While gambling is an innocuous activity for most, a significant minority of students are heavy gamblers who experience adverse consequences from it. Seven and one-half percent of students were classified as problem or pathological gamblers, a rate significantly higher than in the general Alberta adult population. The characteristics that best differentiated problem gamblers from non-problem gamblers were more positive attitudes toward gambling, ethnicity (41% of Asian gamblers were problem gamblers), university major (kinesiology, education, management), superior ability to calculate gambling odds, and older age.

People with epilepsy face stigma which arguably causes more suffering than the disease itself. The purpose of this study is to compare the knowledge and attitudes of nursing with nonnursing Jordanian university students toward epilepsy. A cross-sectional comparative, quantitative study was conducted. A newly structured questionnaire was developed to collect related data. The results revealed that there were 145(30.5%) nursing students and 331 (69.5%) nonnursing students with mean age of the participants was 22.9 years ( SD = 4.7) and 60% of them were men. Although the majority of the Jordanian university students were aware of epilepsy, their knowledge varied according to their major subject of study. Nursing students possessed a good knowledge of, and more positive attitudes toward, epilepsy compared with other nonnursing students. Therefore, universities are required to improve the knowledge of their students about epilepsy by integrating education about health and first aid course into their curriculum.

Although empirical studies support extensive reading (ER) as a method of reading instruction, instructors often let students choose what they want to read. Thus, instructors do not exercise any control over the difficulty level of students’ reading materials. The present study attempts to address this issue by setting restrictions on students’ choice of reading materials. Forty-two third-year Japanese university students participated in this one-semester study. The first group (free-reading group) was permitted to read books of any length, whereas the second group (restricted-reading group) had to choose books of at least 1,000 words in length. The findings revealed that both groups read a similar number of books over the same period of time. However, the restricted-reading group read more words than the free-reading group. Comments from the students revealed their positive attitudes toward and enjoyment of ER. Pedagogical implications are also considered in terms of the implementation of ER. 多読はリーディングの教授法の1つとして多くの実証研究結果から確証を得ているが、基本的に教員は、学生に本を自由に選択させている。つまり、多くの現場で本の難易度に対するコントロールはされていないのが現状である。本論は、学生を2つのグループに分け、本の選択にレベルを設定し、どのような違いが見られるかを考察した。42名の大学3年生を対象とし、自由に本を選択できるグループと、1,000語以上の本しか選ぶことのできないグループに分け、1学期間の推移を見た。結果的に、どちらのグループもほぼ同じ冊数を読んだが、語数に制限があったため、後者の方が前者のグループよりも多く読んだことが分かった。質問紙のコメントからは、どちらの学生も多読に興味を持って取り組んでいたことが示唆された。また、多読の実施という点での教育的意義も考察した。


This study is aimed at identifying the important university-industry linkages (UILs) activities that can be pivotal in developing self-perceived employability among Pakistani university students. It also examines the relationship between UILs and self-perceived employability. It seeks to answer the question, whether the dimensions of UILs plays any role in selfperceived employability among Pakistani university students? Design/Methodology/Approach: The instrument developed by Ishengoma, and Vaaland (2016) was used to identify the important UILs activities and selfperceived employability among students was measured through Rothwell, Herbert, & Rothwell (2008)’ scale. A sample of 285 university students who are enrolled in 11 federally chartered universities of Islamabad, Pakistan was surveyed via close ended questionnaire through emails and in person. Descriptive statistics and PLS-SEM were applied to tests the hypothesized relationship by using SmartPLS. Finding: The study results reveal that all three dimensions of UILs (1. collaborative training & educational activities, 2. collaborative consulting activities, 3. collaborative research activities) are positively related to self-perceived employability, and hence, supports all three hypotheses. The strong and significant regression results are indicative of this conjecture. The study also reflects the student internship programs and joint projects are most popular UILs activity in Pakistani universities. Implications: The research findings augment our understanding of UILs in Pakistan and how they relate to self-perceived employability. The study findings have implications for universities who are striving for better role in society and for industry, who want to be innovative in order to remain competitive. Lastly it has special implications for students who are about to enter in their professional lives and for policy makers to redefining the role of universities, industry and government to promote employability. Originality/value: This research adds values to existing literature on UILs, as most of previous UILs are descriptive and exploratory in nature. This is a unique explanatory study which relates UILs with employability, particularly in context of a developing country

Concerned about the limits of normative deliberative pedagogies, we designed and organized a workshop to explore to possibilities of an agonistic pedagogy for global citizenship education. We brought together a range of participants including national and international primary and university students, researchers and curriculum developers and we created pedagogical activities in which disagreement was fostered. We aimed to normalize conflict, create channels for the expression of political emotions and generate opportunities for the emergence of new subjectivities. Our findings suggest that the plurality of participants and the conflict-orientated pedagogies facilitated the normalization of conflict, the participants’ affective engagement with Others and the creation of new subjectivities. They also indicate that older participants had less positive attitudes towards conflict-orientated pedagogies and discussions on abstract topics did not foster ‘affective’ engagement. We examine potential implications for further educational research and practice considering the singularities of this project.

Attitudes towards research are significant indictors that connect practice to research and enhance nursing evidence-based practice. This correlational study was conducted to assess the attitudes of Jordanian nursing students towards nursing research. A self-administered questionnaire received from 612 senior nursing students at one of the largest universities in Amman, Jordan, was carried out. The results showed that nursing students had positive attitudes towards research. The majority of them believed that research has a role in developing the nursing profession, and that nurses must learn how to read and utilise research findings in practice. The majority also realised the value of research in improving quality of care, expressed the need to learn about nursing research, appreciated the necessity of research for the development of the nursing profession and had a willingness to conduct nursing research in clinical settings. Four attitude domains were identified, including research abilities, usefulness of research, personal interest in research and using research in clinical practice. The highest scores were observed on items related to ‘usefulness of research’ and the lowest were related to ‘research abilities’. Providing students with information and strengthening their research abilities might enhance their positive feelings and increase their involvement in research activities after graduation.
