The Internet Connection as Academic-Services Provider: An Assessment of Technology’s Relevance to the Curriculum by the Student Internet Users

<p>This descriptive study determined whether the quality of internet connection at the college unit of the University of the Immaculate Conception in Davao City is significantly related to the academic services availed of by the student internet users. Employing stratified proportional random sampling, 365 students from the various programs of the university measured the levels of quality of internet connection and their availment academic services to assess the relevance of technology to the current curriculum of the university. The survey data generated using the researcher-made questionnaire (α=0.914) and the narrative accounts revealed by the FGD participants resulted in the following findings: internet speed can provide satisfaction or dissatisfaction to the users depending on the activities they intend to do; computer-specification performance level depends on functionality and ease of use; computer-aided academic services maximize student’s learning; computer-aided academic services are influenced by the quality of internet connection, and students, regardless of their academic programs; have the same perception as regards the quality of the internet connection in the university.</p>

ABSTRACT The problem in this study is that more and more internet users in the Bina Insan Lubuklinggau University building specifically the Faculty of Computer internet connection often experience problems, the internet network is still unstable, and ways to divide internet access points in the Computer Faculty. This study uses data collection methods by observing and recording directly at the research site (Observation), conducting question and answer directly to the source (Interview), and documentation by reading literature books. The results showed that the internet is often experiencing constraints and unstable internet networks and ways to divide internet access points at the Computer Faculty of the University of Bina Insan Lubuklinggau by using Policy Base Routing and Failover Implementation using a Mikrotik Router. It can be concluded that the internet network connection is stable and shows the results of the distribution of internet access points at the Faculty of Computer Bina Insan Lubuklinggau. Purpose The purpose of this paper is to explore the indicators of service quality from the perspective of graduating students in a public university in Ghana. The identified indicators of service quality were rated and the extent of satisfaction among the students was determined. Another issue explored was whether the satisfaction among the respondents inures to their loyalty to the university. Design/methodology/approach A questionnaire was designed, pre-tested and administered to 500 graduating students, and 482 of them were returned for analyses. Principal component analysis was used to determine the indicators of service quality. Independent sample t-test and z-test for proportions were used to compare mean scores and proportions of respondents on various variables, respectively. Findings The results revealed three indicators of service quality which include quality of academic services and facilities, quality of lecturers and quality of academic programs. Graduands were satisfied with academic services, lecturers and programs. They were, however, not satisfied with the quality of facilities. Majority of the respondents will remain associated with the university as a result of their satisfaction with the services, lecturers as well as programs of the university. It is recommended that the university works assiduously on improving infrastructural facilities to help boost the confidence of the students in the university. Originality/value This paper argues that what constitutes quality service vary from one academic institution to the other. It is, therefore, needful for institutions to determine from the perspective of their students what may indicate quality service.

It is the aim of this case to show the teaching web portal of the Faculty of Architecture at “Széchenyi István” University (www.arc.sze.hu/indexen.html) and its many uses. Nowadays, the Internet helps us to look into Hungarian and foreign study aids, and architectural websites. The Internet has created potential new and effective ways of cooperation between lecturers and students of the university and other institutions of higher education. The teaching web portal mentioned above realizes diversity and complexity of architecture, with efficient grouping of information, while being attentive to high professional standards. Computer Aided Architectural Modeling (www.arc.sze.hu/cad) is one of the new types of online lecture notes, where many narrated screen captured videos show the proper usage of cad software instead of texts and figures. This interactive type of learning assists students to become more independent learners. This type of teaching modality provides the opportunity for students who need more time to acquire subject matter through viewing video examples. The success of our departments’ common web initiations can be measured through Internet statistics and feedback of the students and external professionals.

The founding of the Bell Telephone System, the public switched telephone network (PSTN), has evolved into a highly successful global telecommunications system. It is designed specifically for voice communications, and provides a high quality of service and ease of use. It is supported by sophisticated operations systems that ensure extremely high dependability and availability. Over the past 100 years, it has been a showcase for communications engineering and led to groundbreaking new technologies (e.g., transistors, fiber optics). Yet it is remarkable that many public carriers see their future in Internet protocol (IP) networks, namely the Internet. Of course, the Internet has also been highly successful, coinciding with the proliferation of personal computers. It has become ubiquitous for data applications such as the World Wide Web, e-mail, and peer-to-peer file sharing. While it is not surprising that the Internet is the future for data services, even voice services are transitioning to voice over Internet protocol (VoIP). This phenomenon bears closer examination, as a prime example explaining the success of the Internet as a universal communications platform. This chapter gives a historical development of the Internet and an overview of technical and nontechnical reasons for the convergence of services.

There are many serious proposals today in to the direction of the quality of the products in health. In this paper summarized many informations about the on line commerce for health products, some of the most popular products and the methodology to train individuals in to the direction to buy and choose quality products. In this paper also presented and analyzed the characteristics and criteria of one serious Internet health company and its Web site. Also how the different scientific organizations can help people and the electronic health commerce to be more effective in to various fields in the division of the popular health. This will be more effective after training and giving criteria and or educating Internet users for a serious choice in to their on line commerce with the E-Health Commerce Web Organizations.

<p>This qualitative study aimed to present baseline information about the academic and social experiences of the foreign students at the University of the Immaculate Conception (UIC). The researchers conducted a focus group discussion involving 15 of them who are currently enrolled in various programs of the university. Through an in-depth interview, it was found that most of the foreign students have known UIC via a recommendation of a friend, or the internet. Findings revealed that the existence of the foreign students in UIC is characterized both by pleasant and unpleasant experiences. The positive feedback about the UIC educational system opens a possibility for more influx of foreign students while the unpleasant experiences pose dramatic amendments in established policies of the university.</p>

Effective communication of horticultural information over long distances requires the ability to present and receive not only text-based information but also images, sounds, and live-action video. Until recently, the Internet enabled users to communicate in each of these four modes, but not simultaneously. However, as a result of the World-Wide Web (WWW) project and the creation of NCSA Mosaic software, Internet users are able to access and deliver practically any form of communication, as long as it can be digitized. Information from around the world on literally thousands of subjects is now available 24 hours a day. Opportunities to communicate with the general public, primary and secondary science students, or practicing horticulturists are no longer limited by publication delays, travel distances, or media limitations.

The process of e-learning is the operations that involve humans, computers, the Internet, and instructional material and produce the outputs to learners and the organization. This research aimed to study students' readiness for e-learning of graduate students in IAIN Kendari, Indonesia. The research sample consisted of 168 graduate students who were selected purposively. The questionnaire was adapted from Watkins and interviewing 10% of the sample group was conducted to collect the data. The research findings showed that the students were ready for the e-learning, as shown by the overall mean score is 3.72, which is above Mo = 3.40. Due to the low means of statistical calculation, three important items need to be improved, such as Students' household distraction reduction, students' comfort to be involved in multiple online discussions, and students' ability to take notes during online discussions, should be considered. Based on the interview, some challenges met during online learning that reduced students' readiness were unstable internet connection, lecturer's presence on screen, inconducive learning environment, and inability to be a multitasker. Hence, it is recommended that the university and students discuss to improve students' readiness in motivation and technology access.

PGRI University of Yogyakarta is an educational institution that uses the internet as one of the supporting facilities and infrastructures to manage and organize the data and information used by the student to find references about the lecture. PGRI University Yogyakarta has three buildings on the main campus building A building B and C buildings, where each building using wireless LAN as a means for students to use the internet network, the weakness of the wireless LAN network where poor internet network in the wireless LAN network. Thus the researchers wanted to analyze the Quality of Service wireless LAN networks in building A, building B, and C buildings, in each floor.With the existence of quality of the network at PGRI University of Yogyakarta will be done by interviews and observation methods, problems that occur in wireless LAN networks in each building have been prepared in advance, after which it will do an analysis of wireless LAN networks using quality of service parameters, namely delay, packet loss, bandwidth, throughput and factors that influence the wireless network at the University of PGRI Yogyakarta.The results of the measurement and monitoring of Quality of Service wireless LAN at PGRI University of Yogyakarta in building A, building B, C on each floor of the building can be classified in the category of poor with the average delay for each building to around 150 ms and packet loss = 28%, bandwidth = 173523 bits / s and throughput = 22%, and the factors that occurred in the signal range cannot cover every room in every building. From these results it can be concluded that the quality of the wireless LAN at the University PGRI Yogyakarta according to the TIPHON standards categorized as poor.
