SATISFACTION INDEX OF WATER AND PRODUCTIVITY DEMANDS ON BEANS ON DIFFERENT IRRIGATION DEPTHS IN COLATINA – ESABSTRACT: One of the factors that can affect bean productivity is the ratio of actual evapotranspiration and crop evapotranspiration, which indicates the actual amount of water that the plant consumes in relation to the maximum amount of water the plant would consume, also represented as Index Of Water Needs Satisfaction. In order to determine this index for bean, in the respective stages of development, in order to improve irrigation management, adjusting to the best irrigation depth, as well as the maximum productivity, the cultivars Majestoso and Valente in de region of Colatina-ES, during the period from 07/07/2012 to 10/10/2012. Higher productivity was observed as a result of the increase in the Water Need Satisfaction Index, in which, as soil water deficit levels increased with the imposition of irrigation blades away from the sprinkler, ISNA presented lower values and consequently, its productivity, being noticed in the ISNA values below 0.83. The cultivar Majestoso presented greater tolerance to the water deficit in relation to Valente cultivar, in the edaphoclimatic conditions of Colatina-ES.KEYWORDS: phenological phases, evapotranspiration, water deficiency.

ABSTRACT Irrigation management is essential for tomato fruits yield and quality. Therefore, the aim of this study was to evaluate the yield of tomatoes for industrial processing, ‘BRS Sena’ hybrid, subjected to water depths and irrigation suspension periods before harvest, irrigated by subsurface drip irrigation, in Goiás, Brazil (17º 49’ 19.5” S and 49º 12’ 11.3” W), in 2015 and 2016. The experiments were conducted under a randomized complete block design, with four replications, in split plots. Five irrigation levels (50, 75, 100, 125 and 150% of crop evapotranspiration) were evaluated in the plots and five irrigation suspension periods (0, 7, 14, 21 and 28 days before harvest) were evaluated in the subplots. At 125 days after transplanting the seedlings, the yields of green, mature, rotten fruits and total yield, water productivity and percentages of green, mature and rotten fruits were evaluated. The highest total fruit yields (105.86 and 58.60 t ha-1) were obtained with water replacements ranging from 125.47 (615.09 mm) to 132.11 (564.00 mm) of crop evapotranspiration, in the first and second year of experiment, respectively. Growing plants under water deficit and excess increased the incidence of rotten fruits and decreased that of mature fruits. Pre-harvest irrigation suspension reduced crop yield and incidence of green fruits and increased the incidence of rotten fruits. The highest water productivity by the crop occurred under water deficit, management that may be interesting for regions with water restrictions.

The use of productivity information and efficiency of water use is important for the economic analysis of production and irrigation management, and also helps the economy of water use, which is essential to plant life. The objective of this study was to evaluate the biomass allocation, the water use efficiency and water content in fruits of sweet pepper cropped under the influence of irrigation blades and potassium doses. The statistic design was a completely randomized factorial scheme (5 x 2) and four replications, with five irrigation blades (80; 90; 100; 110 and 120% of crop evapotranspiration) and two levels of potassium (80 and 120 kg K2O ha-1 ), applied according to phenological phase, through a system of drip irrigation with self-compensated drippers, installed in a battery of 40 drainage lysimeters cultivated with sweet pepper (Maximos F1), at Federal Rural University of Pernambuco (UFRPE), Recife, state of Pernambuco, Brazil. The dry biomass production of sweet pepper was influenced by fertigation regimes; when it was set the lowest dose, estimates of the efficiency of water use and moisture in the fruit occurred with the use of irrigation depth of 97 and 95% of ETc, respectively.

Os valores de Kc para as fases mencionadas foram 0,98; 1,41; 2,11 e 1,65 respectivamente.</p><p align="center"><strong><em>Use of drainage lysimeter for obtaining Kc of castor bean in dense plantation</em></strong></p><p><strong>Abstract</strong><strong>: </strong>Castor bean culture is considered resistant to water deficit. However, it presents considerable increase in productivity when submitted to irrigation. For the adequate irrigation management, one of the criterion considered is based on the crop evapotranspiration (ETc) and is necessary for finding the crop coefficient (Kc) value. With the present work, we aimed at determining the Kc of the castor bean in dense plantation, during the off-season, using a drainage lysimeter. Three drainage lysimeters, with dimensions of 1.2 m of length, 1.4 m of width and 1.2 m of depth, were used. In the lysimeters, eight castor bean seedlings, cultivar Al Guarany 2002 were planted with spacing of 0.3 m between plants and 0.7 m between lines.  The ETc was calculated considering the interval from 5 to 12 days, according to the end of drainage. The reference evapotranspiration (ETo) was estimated by the Penman-Monteith-FAO equation. From the ETc/ETo relation, we obtained the Kc for the different periods over the crop cycle. The ETc values found in the initial, growing, intermediate and final phases were of 1.65; 3.07; 9.14 and 5.85 mm d-1, respectively. The Kc values for the mentioned phases were of 0.98; 1.41; 2.11 and 1.65, respectively.</p>

ABSTRACT This study aimed to evaluate the behavior of soybean plants subjected to irrigation management with controlled water deficits in different phenological stages. The research was conducted in an experimental area of the Federal University of Tocantins (UFT), in Palmas-TO, Brazil. The experimental design was randomized blocks with four replicates, and treatments arranged in a split-plot scheme. The plots consisted of irrigation levels that induced plants to water deficit in the vegetative stage, reproductive stage and throughout the entire cycle, based on potential crop evapotranspiration (ETpc). The subplots corresponded to two soybean cultivars (M9144RR and TMG1288RR). The following agronomic variables were evaluated: days until flowering, days until maturation, plant height, first pod height, number of pods per plant, stem diameter, leaf area and yield. Irrigation management with moderate water deficit, 50% of ETpc, in the vegetative stage, promoted the best agronomic characteristics and contributed to increase the yield of the evaluated soybean cultivars, especially M9144RR.

Abstract In this study, the authors analyzed the consequences of irrigation management strategies as an essential factor to save water and maintain high crop yields. The present research aimed at comparing coriander (Coriandrum sativum L.), cv. Verdão, yields under fertigation via drip irrigation with a continuous application and in pulses, with 40, 60, 80, 100 and 120% of the crop evapotranspiration (ETc) being recovered. These treatments were distributed in randomized blocks in a 2 × 5 factorial scheme, with three replications, in a greenhouse located at the Federal Rural University of Pernambuco, northeast Brazil (08°01′6.50″ S and 34°56′46″ W, average elevation 6.5 m). The continuous irrigation consisted of the application of water depth in a single daily event, while pulsed irrigation comprised the application of the same irrigation depth split up into five events with a 1-hour interval between pulses. Crop evapotranspiration (ETc) was determined via the water balance by lysimetric drainage. The fertilizers were applied in every watering. The biometric and productivity crop pointed that pulsed irrigation to a mean depth of 58% of the ETc corresponds to the results obtained with the application of the depth equivalent to 100% of the ETc by continuous irrigation, consequently with reduced input costs.

Palavras-chave: umidade do solo, estresse hídrico, produtividade agrícola.     SILVA, S., SOUSA, A. PRODUCTIVE PARAMETERS OF MAIZE UNDER WATER DEFICIT IN DIFFERENT PHENOLOGICAL PHASES IN THE BRAZILIAN SEMI-ARID           2 ABSTRACT   The objective of this work was to evaluate the effect of water deficit in different phenological phases of maize in the semiarid region of Alagoas, Brazil. The experiment was conducted at the Federal Institute of Alagoas, Campus Piranhas, from February to June 2019. From the data collected from the plants during the conduct of the experiment, the following steps were performed: analysis of the effect of climatic elements on the crop, determination of productivity in each treatment, evaluation of growth data and ear variables under the effect of the deficit water, estimation of crop evapotranspiration (ETc) and verification of the level of impact of water stress caused in each phonological phase of the culture. The plants subjected to water deficit in the tasseling and flowering phases suffered variation in the number of grains per ear and had low yield compared to the plants submitted to the farinaceous grain phase. The evapotranspiration of the crop, temperature and humidity did not influence the thermal limitation for developing maize throughout the cycle. Plants submitted to water deficit during the planting and flowering phase were less productive.   Keywords: soil moisture, hydric stress, yield.

ABSTRACT Cauliflower is a brassica produced and consumed in Brazil, whose cultivation depends on the adequate supply of water and nutrients. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of irrigation depths and nitrogen doses on the production components and water yield of cauliflower hybrid Barcelona CMS. The treatments consisted of five irrigation water depths (0, 75, 100, 125 and 150% of the crop evapotranspiration) combined with five nitrogen doses (0, 75, 150, 300 and 450 kg ha-1). The experiment was conducted in a completely randomized design with a split-plot arrangement. The effects of these factors were evaluated using the response surface methodology. The water yield of the crop decreases with increasing irrigation water depth; therefore, the yield is higher when water replenishment is lower than the recommended. The highest estimated total inflorescence yield is 24,547.80 kg ha-1, with a inflorescence mean diameter of 19.60 cm, a inflorescence mean height of 12.25 cm, and an inflorescence fresh weight of 858.90 g plant-1, obtained with an irrigation water depth equivalent to 132.09% of the crop evapotranspiration (ETc) and a nitrogen dose of 450 kg ha-1. The highest inflorescence diameter and height are obtained with an irrigation depth equivalent to 128.70 and 108.20% of ETc, respectively, and a nitrogen dose of 450 kg ha-1. Therefore, the best productivity response of the Barcelona CMS cauliflower hybrid can be obtained using an irrigation depth greater than the crop evapotranspiration, regardless of the nitrogen doses.

SummaryIn each of the years from September 1977 to July 1982 winter wheat was grown on one or more of three clay soil sites (clay content 35–55%) in Oxfordshire where the climate is close to the average for the area of England growing winter cereals. The effects on crop water use of different soil management practices, including ploughing, direct drilling and subsoil drainage, are compared. Cultivation treatment had little effect on the maximum depth of water extraction, which on average in these clay soils was 1·54 m below the soil surface. Maximum soil water deficit was also little affected by cultivation; the maximum recorded value was 186±7·6 mm. Subsoil drainage increased the maximum depth of water extraction by approximately 15 cm and the maximum soil water deficit by about 17 mm.Generally soil management had little effect on either total water use by the crop which was found to be close to the potential evaporation estimated by the method of Penman, or water use efficiency which for these crops was about 52 kg/ha par mm water used. Results are discussed in relation to limitations to potential yield.

Abstract Peanut (Arachis hypogaea L.) fruit growth is sensitive to surface soil (0-5 cm) conditions due to its subterranean fruiting habit. This study was conducted to determine the effect of soil water content in the pegging zone (0-5 cm) on peanut pod growth rate and development. A pegging-pan-root-tube apparatus was used to separately control soil water content in the pegging and root zone for greenhouse trials. A field study also was conducted using portable rainout shelters to create a soil water deficit. Pod phenology, pod and seed growth rates, and final pod and seed dry weights were determined. In greenhouse studies, dry pegging zone soil delayed pod and seed development. In the field, soil water deficits in the pegging and root zone decreased pod and seed growth rates by approximately 30% and decreased weight per seed from 563 to 428 mg. Pegs initiating growth during drought stress demonstrated an ability to suspend development during the period of soil water deficit and to re-initiate pod development after the drought stress was relieved.
