Improving Students’ Writing Skills through Collaborative Learning: A Case Study of Senior High School Veteran 1 of Sukoharjo

The research aims at improving students’ writing skills using collaborative learning at 10th-grade students of the Senior High School 1 of Veteran Sukoharjo. This research was a classroom action research. The technique used in this research consisted of planning, implementing, observing and reflecting. The research was applied in two cycles. Every cycle consisted of three meetings. In the technique of collecting data, the researcher used qualitative and quantitative techniques. The qualitative data were collected from documentation, observation and interview with teachers and some students. The quantitative data were collected from the score of the students’ pre-test ad post-test, validity and reliability. The result of the research showed that collaborative learning could improve students’ writing skills. By using collaborative learning, the students showed active and have self-confidence in the teaching-learning process. This method brought positive result. The progress of the students’ writing skills also can be seen from the result of the tests score. In the multiple-choice pre-test, the mean score of the pre-test was 59,7and improved to be 68,1in post-test 1 of cycle 1. In cycle 2, the mean score of post-tests 2 was 79,7. In the essay pre-test, the mean score of the pre-test was 61,3and improved to be 69,1in post-test 1 of cycle 1. In cycle 2, the mean score of post-tests 2 was 78,4. It could be concluded that there was a significant improvement in the students writing skills after using collaborative learning.

The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of extensive reading on students’ reading achievement for senior high school grade X. The extensive reading was an alternative method in the teaching reading to make the students fun and easy to get the meaning of texts from many sources. The subjects were 27 students at grade X in the academic year 2018/2019. The researcher applied by using in a quasi-experimental design using a quantitative approach. The instrument of this research used pre-questionnaires, test and observation. The technique of analyzing data was applied by using a paired sample t-test from the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences 22 (SPSS22). The result of the analysis showed that the mean of the pre-test was 79, 85 and the mean of post-test was 85, 56. The mean score of posttest was higher than pretest in experimental class who were taught by extensive reading. It concluded that the implementation of the extensive reading can give positive effects to the students. It was supported by the result of observation showed that the students were enthusiastically to answer the question, many vocabularies, fun, enjoyable, easy to understand the meaning of the texts and more active in the teaching learning.

This research was design to know the effect of learning model multimedia-based toward the students’ English ablility at senior high school of Kolaka Regency. The question of the research was “Is there an effect of learning model multimedia-based toward the students’ English ablility at senior high school of Kolaka Regency? The objective of the research was to find out the data whether the learning model multimedia-based has an effect toward the students’ English ablility at senior high school of Kolaka Regency. The significant of the research was expected the model can be used as reference learning model to improve the students’ English ablility.<strong> </strong>The design of the research was pre-experimental design. The research was conducted at the first-class students of Senior High School 1 Wundulako in Kolaka District. The data were collected by using English test which given at the pre-test and the post-test.<strong> </strong>In analysed the students’ test result, which the mean score of pre-test was 33,8806 and the mean score of post-test was 69,4058, while the t-table 18,55&gt;2,042 t-test. Its mean that the learning model multimedia-based has an effect toward the students’ English ablility. Refering to the findings and discussions of the research, it can be concluded that the learning model multimedia-based has an effect toward the students’ English ablility at senior high school of Kolaka Regency. It was based on the mean score in pre-test and post-test.Based on the conclusion of the research, the researcher suggests to the teacher, especially English teacher in Kolaka Regency to use learning model multimedia-based in teaching and learning process to improve the students’ English ability.

The main objectives of the research are: (1) to identify whether pictures can improve students’ paragraph writing skill for the tenth graders of Senior High School in SMAN 1 Magetan; (2) to identify the students’s motivation when the pictures are used to teach paragraph writing skill for the tenth graders of Senior High School in SMAN 1 Magetan in academic year 2018/2019. The Research was carried out at SMAN 1 Magetan, East Java, in second semester from January 2019 to May 2019. The subjects of the research are 34 students of grade X. MIPA -1 consisting of 14 boys and 20 girls. The data were obtained from several techniques: test, observation, interview, questioners, and document analysis. To analyze the qualitative data, I used interactive model; while to analyze quantitative data, I applied a descriptive statistics. It is done by comparing the mean of pre-test and post-test. There are some findings of the research which include: pictures can improve students’ paragraph writing skill for the tenth graders of Senior High School in SMAN 1 Magetan. The improvements of paragraph writing skill comprise: (1) writing topic sentence; (2) writing supporting sentences; and (3) using correct grammar and cohesive devices (conjunctions). In addition, the students’ motivation is better when the pictures are used to teach paragraph writing skill for the tenth graders of Senior High School in SMAN 1 Magetan. Based on the result of the research, it can be concluded that applying pictures as media can improve students’ paragraph writing. Therefore, it is recommended that the teachers can use pictures as an effective media to improve the students’ paragraph writing skill.

This research focused on using the scrambling method to teach grammar at the eleventh-grade students of Senior High School Number 2 Palopo. The research problem of this research was: “Does the scrambling method effectively improve students’ grammar mastery?”. The objective of this research was to find out whether or not the scrambling method effectively improves students’ grammar mastery. In this research, the researcher used pre-experimental design, and the treatments were conducted in six meetings. The population of this research was the eleventh-grade students of senior high school 2 Palopo. The researcher used a total sampling technique. There were 26 students from IPA 3 class involved in this research. The instrument used to collect data was a written test. It was divided into pretest and post-test. The data of this research were analyzed quantitatively by using SPSS program version 20. The result of this research showed that the scrambling method effectively improves students’ grammar mastery. The mean score in the pretest is lower than the mean score in the post-test (63, 85 < 82, 23). The researcher found that the p-Value is 0.00, and the alpha is 0.05, therefore p<α (0.00 < 0.05). Meanwhile, the mean score of the post-test is better than the mean score of pretest (82,23 > 63,85).

This paper describes how to improve students’ achievement in reading descriptive text through reciprocal teaching strategy. The sample of this paper are 21 Students of VIII-1 Grade in Senior High School of PTPN IV Bah Jambi. The pre- test data were distributed before the treatment of Reciprocal Teaching Strategy and the post-test data were taken after the treatment of teaching-learning reading descriptive text by using Reciprocal Teaching Strategy. The finding shows before the treatment of Reciprocal Reading Strategy, the basic knowledge of students at grade VIII SMP Swasta PTPN IV Bah Jambi was low since the mean of pre-test data was 25,95 and after the treatment, the students’ achievement in reading descriptive text was good where the mean of post-test data was 69,76 so that the mean difference before and after the treatment was 43,81

This research aimed to improve the students’ speaking skill in English lesson by puppets games. This research was conducted by using Quasi-Experimental. The subject of this research was Class X MIPA of SMA Perjuangan Depok 2018/2019 academic year, which consisted of 29 students. The objective of this research was to teaching students’ speaking skill in English Lesson by using Puppets Games at Ten Grade of SMA Perjuangan Depok. The data were gathered through quantitative and qualitative data. The result of this research showed that there was increasing of students in speaking skill. The mean of pre-test was 58.34. The mean of post-test was 77. Based on the result analysis, it can be concluded that there was a significance using puppets games in teaching speaking at tenth grade senior high school. The result showed that the result of T-test calculation is 13.090 more higher than T-table 5%, it gained score 2.045. Therefore, it can be conclude that teaching speaking using puppets games is effective to improve speaking skill at the tenth grade of SMA Perjuangan Depok. The results of this study are expected to be useful to related parties such as principals, teachers, parents, students and further researchers.

The study examined the effectiveness of developed instructional module on the enhancement of learners&rsquo; academic achievements specifically this current situation of COVID-19 pandemic under distance learning delivery modalities. This instructional module in Physics was personally developed by the researcher and intended to used in teaching-learning process in Senior High School under the Department of Education. The participants of the study are the grade 12 SHS students at Aliaga National High School into two groups &ndash;the controlled and experimental. The parameters are the content knowledge, alignment to learning competencies, learning tasks, assessment method, design course, friendliness and timeliness. To examine the effectiveness, the experimental research designed was employed. The following findings were made: the mean pre-test scores of two groups had 5.40 and 5.33 which means almost the same while the post-test mean scores of controlled group had 14.40 and experimental group had 17.80 which means the mean scores of experimental group were higher than the mean scores of the controlled groups. The pretest of two groups of participants had value of 14.976 with significant value of .000 and found out &ldquo;not significant&rdquo; while the post-test had value of 14.976 with significant value of .000 and interpreted as &ldquo;significant&rdquo; therefore the developed instructional module in Physics found &ldquo;effective&rdquo; and had impact to students&rsquo; academic performance. On the assessment made on the effectiveness of developed instructional module in Physics the overall weighted mean got 3.77 with an interpretation of &ldquo;Very Satisfactory&rdquo;. Continuous development and enhance of instructional module is recommended.

The researcher aims to find out the effectiveness using Treasure Hunt Game toward students’ vocabulary mastery with the research objectives: to find out the use of Treasure Hunt Gametowardthe first grade students’ vocabulary mastery at Islamic Senior High School of Muhammadiyah Palampang. This research was conducted at the class X MIA 1 and X MIA 2. The sample of this research was 50 students from 280 populations. The controled class was took from class X MIA 1, while the experimental class was from X MIA 2. The number of the sample in each class was 25 students.Quasi experimental design was applied in this research with two group pre-test and post-test design. The instrument used to collect data was vocabulary test.Research findings showed that the experimental class got score on pre-test with the mean score 44,2. After giving treatment the students got change, they got score with the mean score 59,9. The result of the data analysis indicated that there was a change of the students’ vocabulary mastery after being taught using Treasure Hunt Game. It was proved by the result of the statistical analysis of the level significance P = 0.05 with degree of freedom (df) = 48 indicated that the t-test values of the students’ vocabulary mastery (2,53) was higher than the t-table (2,01). Based on the result of analysis, the researcher concludes that using Treasure Hunt Game was effective toward the students’ vocabulary mastery at the first grade students of Islamic Senior High School of Muhammadiyah Palampang, because Treasure Hunt Game give a lot of fun, the students enjoy the learning without any preasure. Than, Treasure Hunt Game stimulates students engagement in learning process. Inaccessibility of electronic dictionaries for learning pronunciation of elementsand compounds in Chemistry was found at Semarang State Senior High School 2. Theobserved inaccessibility came from the Chemistry teacher who shared her problemsthat her students got difficulties in pronouncing elements and compounds. Then, theexisting electronic dictionaries were lack of the words they needed. Hence, this studywould like to develop an Electronic Dictionary of Elements and Compounds inChemistry (EDECC) for assisting students, notably the tenth graders of SemarangState Senior High School 2, to improve their pronunciation in learning elements andcompounds. This study employed Research and Development design to develop theEDECC. This design was adopted and modified fromBorg and Gall (2003:772). Sevenstages were employed for developing EDECC were information and research collecting,planning, developing, validating, revising, try out, and producing final EDECC.Observation, interview, validation, and pre-test also post-test were administered tocollect the data while both quantitative and qualitative approaches were used toanalyze the collected data. From the result of observations, questionnaires, validation,interviews, and pre-test and post-testwere found that applying the EDECC gainedpositive perspectives toward teaching and learning process.Moreover, the test ofeffectiveness consisting validity and reliability tests on pretest and posttest employingquasi experimental design reported that there was significant difference between theresult of pretest and posttest. Abstract The aimed of this research was to find out the effect of reward toward students’ motivation in Learning English structure at Kampung Inggris Rafflesia Rejang Lebong. It created in quantitative design as a quasi- experimental research. The population of this research was all senior high school graders (they were three classes) and two classes as the sample, the E1 as control class and E3 as experimental class. The techniques of data collecting were pre-test and post-test and supported by questionnaire. The results were taken from post-test that consist of five aspects, they were total score, highest score, lowest score, mean score, and standard deviation. Based on the final result of the five aspects above, the researchers found that reward gave effect for the students’ motivation in learning English structure. It was also could be seen from the results of questionnaire, they felt enjoy, fun and enthusiasm during the teaching-learning were held.
