Abstract. This study aims to find out how the process of selecting content in video making, challenges in the transliteration process from audio to sign language and communication patterns in disseminating to the target public of the videos which form of Indonesian songs lipsync using sign language uploaded via @aulion Instagram account. Using qualitative approach to the case study method and the concept of symbolic interactionism by George Herbert Mead. The result of this research indicate that the content selection process begins with the thought process where the whole social (society) precedes the individual mind, then the process of adjusting behavior as a form of understanding and interpreting the process, and the process of selecting songs as educa-tional media for sign language. The researcher divides the challenge of transliteration process into two types, namely internal and external challenges. Communication patterns used include the use of social media and direct (face-to-face) social interaction. The conclusion that can be taken is that the process of transliteration activities is preceded by social conditions in the community that give rise to the process of thinking to someone, where the aspects of mind, self, and society are related to one another as explained by George Herbert Mead in the concept of symbolic interac-tionism. However, these activities will be better if done regularly to maintain the interest of the community to learn sign language Abstrak.

This chapter presents a case study of the creation and evolution of a fee-based, multi-company Community of Practice (CoP) for Chief Information Officers (CIOs) in the San Francisco Bay Area over a six-year period. It describes the principles, processes and practices required to form and maintain a trust-based, face-to-face learning organization where members share accumulated knowledge. Additionally, it states some of the individual, collective and Information Technology industry benefits and results that have accrued from member participation in the CIO Community of Practice. The authors hope that the description of this CoP will foster the same sense of excitement for would-be practitioners that they feel.

Social media has induced substantial growth of various cultural contacts, resulting in a great variation of uses in English. In light of the popularity of new social media, contacts of people from different cultures have been changed from predominant face-to-face encounters to instantaneous communication. This case study examines how Taiwanese students relate their ESL learning experiences to the use of social media and how their uses help transform these ESL students' gender/ethnic identities during study abroad. Adopting an ethnographic research approach, the results suggest some barriers and challenges those ESL students face during the time abroad, both linguistically but also in terms of intercultural friendship. Pedagogical implications and recommendations are made on how to more effectively using social media in developing linguistic and intercultural competence in the context of study abroad.

The COVID-19 pandemic accelerated the digital transformation era and the evolution from mentoring to e-mentoring. One of the groups most affected by this situation is the mentees doing graduate studies. In this context, e-mentoring enables the mentee and mentor to carry out their academic study using digital technologies in mutual interaction, regardless of time and geographical space. This study is designed as a case study of the qualitative research methods where the study group consists of graduate students. Five main themes and 14 sub-themes are determined from the interviews with mentees on e-mentoring perceptions. According to the research findings, mentees prefer a two-stage approach in mentee-mentor matching. Mentees emphasize that they favor matching with emerging technologies at the first stage and finalizing the mentor selection process by mentee-mentor face-to-face negotiation in the second stage. Mentees also mention that besides some e-mentoring advantages, there are psycho-social benefits of face-to-face mentoring.

The Royal Society of Chemistry held, to our knowledge, the world’s first Twitter conference at 9am on February 5 th, 2015. The conference was a Twitter-only conference, allowing researchers to upload academic posters as tweets, replacing a physical meeting. This paper reports the details of the event and discusses the outcomes, such as the potential for the use of social media to enhance scientific communication at conferences. In particular, the present work argues that social media outlets such as Twitter broaden audiences, speed up communication, and force clearer and more concise descriptions of a researcher’s work. The benefits of poster presentations are also discussed in terms of potential knowledge exchange and networking. This paper serves as a proof-of-concept approach for improving both the public opinion of the poster, and the enhancement of the poster through an innovative online format that some may feel more comfortable with, compared to face-to-face communication.

The article deals with role behavior of students-translators in professionally-oriented translation lessons. The task of the given article is to look through the samples of intensive teaching of professionally-oriented translation at translation faculties, which is based on the exercises of role behavior. Translation is known to be one of the difficult, debatable and interesting matters in a language. Main target of learning a foreign language is bilingual communication, but in the profession of translator bilingual communication can be called its essence. Modern role theory is based on the concept of George Herbert Mead. The other specialist—Morton Deutsch and Robert Krauss define the following aspects of roles:- Role as a system of expectations, which exists in the society.- Role as a system of specific expectations with respect of the individual to itself.- Role as an open, observed behavior of an individual, occupying a definite position. To the professionally-oriented translation we can refer the sequential (or consecutive) translation.Role behavior exercises can be divided into two types:The 1st type includes the exercises, which are used at first and which imply minimal lexical loading for students. The 2nd type includes exercises with role behavior, which is characterized by the complex vocabulary of professionally-oriented character. For the diversity of professionally-oriented lexics, theme of the exercises with role behavior can be changed and extracurricular practice can be organized. For example, these can include situations on the excursion to a museum. The following authors devoted their works to this matter: Christine Durieux, Pérez Gamero, Hurtado Albir, Borrás Espasa, Gonzales Davies. All of them have the same viewpoint that for the beginning translator should know the theme of translation and specifics of professionally-oriented translation, possess extra knowledge and gather information rightly.

This study sought to discover whether and how biological parameters can predict leadership behavior in the following leadership-related tasks: a face-to-face negotiation (Study 1), an individual problem-solving case (Study 2), and a group-based problem-solving case (Study 3). We replicated previous work by Mehta, Mor, Yap and Prasad in testing the dual-hormone hypothesis related to testosterone increase and cortisol decrease (Study 1), but our findings do not provide evidence to support the dual-hormone hypothesis. In Study 2, we found that high openness was a significant predictor in the individual problem-solving case. The results from Study 3 indicated that higher openness was related to a better score on the group exercise. Our findings did not support the dual-hormone model, and we did not find support for the seller-specific effect reported in Mehta et al. The original study included 64 participants with complete hormone data, while our replicational study involved 114 participants with complete hormone data.

Nowadays, the value chain financing (AVCF) is considered as an effective agricultural financing approach in the world, however, its prevalence is still limited in developing countries, like Viet Nam. This paper analyses the financial gap between the demands and the actual credit obtained of the Seng Cu (SC) rice chain participants in Lao Cai. Cross-sectional data were collected from 160 face-to-face interviews with SC rice producers and from in-depth interviews with 31 other stakeholders involved in the chain (demand-side) and the representatives of district-branch banks (supply-side) in 2016 - 2017. Overall, almost chain actors had high financial demands, especially upland rice producers and the leading chain actor (TPC). However, they faced many credit constraints related to the strict risk-avoidance strategy and the collateral requirement of banks. Even the SC rice chain confirmed its high potential and many supportive linkages among them developed, the decision-making of banks on credit disbursements still depends on the individual capability of each chain actors, not the entire chain.  Thus, the recommendations for policymakers, producers, and agribusiness are suggested to enhance the financial sources going in the chain and the effectiveness of chain actors in the locality.
