The article examines the position of Jewish artisans in the Kyiv region in the late 1920s, a period when the Soviet government's course on the industrialization accelerated the collapse of the NEP policy. Authors revealed activities of the Kyiv ORT Committee, which sought to find a place for this group of Jews in the new plans of the Soviet government. The Perspective Plan for the Development of Handicrafts among the Jewis Population of Kyiv Region for 1929-1933 is analyzed as well as discussions that arose in the process of its preparing. The main factors that motivated the adoption of this plan and its indicators are identified. It is concluded that the purpose of its adoption was an attempt to create favorable conditions for the economic integration of the Jewish population into Soviet society and to reduce the severity of social problems, especially unemployment. Quantitative parameters of this plan are considered. The contribution of ORT to the economic support of Jewish artisans of Kyiv region, particularly purchase and transfer of equipment from abroad, which contributed to the development of a number of crafts in the Soviet Ukraine are clarified. Little-known statistics on the number and types of equipment that the organization supplied to artisans of Kyiv region are given. The difficulties faced by Jewish entrepreneurs during this period and the factors taken into account in planning the development of various crafts are reproduced. They are following: shortage of many row materials, the emergence of the Soviet factory industry, which competed with Jewish handicraftsmen, competition in the circle of Jews handicraftsmen. Authors identify consumer goods that were in short supply in the Kyiv region in the late 1920s. Little-known documents on the activities of the Kyiv ORT Committee is put into circulation.

In the early years following World War II, the Lublin region was one of the most important centres of Jewish life. At the same time, during 1944-1946 it was the scene of anti-Jewish incidents: from anti-Semitic propaganda, accusation of ritual murder, economic boycott, to cases of individual or collective murder. The wave of anti-Jewish that lasted until autumn of 1946 resulted in a lengthy and, no doubt incomplete, list of 118 murdered Jews. Escalating anti-Jewish violence in the immediate post-war years was one of the main factors, albeit not the only one, to affect the demography (mass emigration) and the socio-political condition of the Jewish population in the Lublin region

PurposeSeasonal fluctuation interference often affects the relational analysis of economic time series. The main purpose of this paper is to propose a new grey relational model for relational analysis of seasonal time series and apply it to identify and eliminate the influence of seasonal fluctuation of retail sales of consumer goods in China.Design/methodology/approachFirst, the whole quarterly time series is divided into four groups by data grouping method. Each group only contains the time series data in the same quarter. Then, the new series of four-quarters are used to establish the grey correlation model and calculate its correlation coefficient. Finally, the correlation degree of factors in each group of data was calculated and sorted to determine its importance.FindingsThe data grouping method can effectively reflect the correlation between time series in different quarters and eliminate the influence of seasonal fluctuation.Practical implicationsIn this paper, the main factors influencing the quarterly fluctuations of retail sales of consumer goods in China are explored by using the grouped grey correlation model. The results show that the main factors are different from quarter to quarter: in the first quarter, the main factors are money supply, tax and per capita disposable income of rural residents. In the second quarter are money supply, fiscal expenditure and tax. In the third quarter are money supply, fiscal expenditure and per capita disposable income of rural residents. In the fourth quarter are money supply, fiscal expenditure and tax.Originality/valueThis paper successfully realizes the application of grey relational model in quarterly time series and extends the applicable scope of grey relational model.

A new version of genesis of the epithermal gold-silver deposit Kupol (Chukotka), its mineral composition of ores and conditions of ore-localization based on the analysis of published geological materials on the geological structure had purposed in this article. The active thermal ore-forming role of completing the volcanic cycle of the multiphase subvolcanic complex’ the proximal bodies of the Upper Cretaceous rhyolites had been proved. The main factors of this deposit’ formation and the conditions that favored the appearance of large ore bodies and rich ores were considered. The magma chamber, unified faulty magmatic and fluid conductor, rock screen, flank clusters of subvolcanic rhyolite bodies and their integral thermal anomalies that initiated and sustained the deep fluid thermal convection under the screen, its mixing with fractured pore and meteoric waters and formation of gradient temperature zones, were considered among the main factors. The conjugation of these factors in space and time, the active tectonic regime and the long-term preservation of the deformation plan were the favorable conditions for ore formation. They maintained the high permeability of the fluid conductor, prevented a wide dispersion of fluids and provided a telescopic deposition of different mineral parageneses.

After describing, within the framework of “Open Regionalism”, the tortuous process that the Central American countries have experienced to achieve their integration as a Common Market, this article analyses the relationship between these countries and Mexico, through the Free Trade Agreement signed among them. Once it is shown that the integration process of the Central American countries is on an impasse, the article explores the possibilities to advance on the economic integration between Mexico and the region. Using quantitative measurement and qualitative elements, this article identifies favorable conditions for such integration to be initiated by Mexico and Costa Rica, whether or not US trade policy changes towards the region.

For the spring semester of 1986 I designed a seminar on the problems of contemporary Soviet society that would give students a different perspective on the dynamics of decision- making in the USSR. The class, which met once a week for fifteen weeks, culminated in a series of Politburo meetings during which students acted as key Politburo members and considered proposals for reform submitted to them by specialists from various branches of the soviet government. The idea for such an exercise came to me after reading Douglas W. Simon's recent article in News for Teachers of Political Science about a National Security Council simulation he conducted at Drew University. I felt the most crucial difficulty with a Politburo simulation as opposed to the NSC simulation would be the paucity of reliable and detailed information on sessions of the Politburo.
