Purpose: The purpose of this research was to determine which defense mechanisms can help to regulate the link between attitude toward change and organizational commitment. Psychological defenses are characterized as protective processes that help individuals maintain their integrity in the face of threat and danger. Previously, extant research has mainly emphasized organizational issues while individual psychological factors have remained largely ignored. Therefore, this paper seeks to investigate the moderating effects of psychological defense mechanisms on the relationship between employee attitude toward change and organizational commitment. Design/Methodology/Approach: A total of 499 employees were chosen from the banks of the Southern Punjab, Pakistan, using a purposive sampling methodology. The information was gathered using validated questionnaires. The data was analyzed for descriptive statistics, correlation, and hierarchical multiple regression analysis. Findings: The findings showed a positive correlation between employee positive attitude toward change and organizational commitment and a negative relationship between employee negative attitude toward change and organizational commitment. The results of the moderation analysis revealed that the association between employee attitude toward change and organizational commitment is negatively moderated by all three defense mechanisms. Implications/Originality/Value: The findings highlight the significance of psychological factors during the organizational change process and suggests recruiting employees with positive attitudes.

In The Sense of an Ending, Julian Barnes portrays the mysterious workings of the human mind as it distorts facts towards the end of a self-image that one can live with. The protagonist in the novel deploys certain psychological defense mechanisms in order to protect himself from feelings of anxiety, only to experience even more profound anxiety due to his excessive use of them. The significance of the present paper lies in its novel view of the book. So far, the critique on the novel has mainly been focused on the workings of time on memory; however, the present paper investigates how psychological defense mechanisms blur the protagonist’s perception of reality and distort his memories. This paper also attempts to attract scholarly interest in the study of psychological defense mechanisms in the study of The Sense of an Ending which has so far been to the best of our knowledge overlooked

The objective: to study the psychological characteristics of women’s status in one of the most common complications of pregnancy - the threat of termination of pregnancy, depending on the level of stress load. Patients and methods. We have studied the psychological status (the Holmes-Rahe level of psychosocial stress, the Spielberg-Hanin level of anxiety, V.I.Dobryakov’s related to a pregnancy test, diagnosis of psychological defense mechanisms, assessment of quality of life) 60 pregnant women with threat of premature birth in the third trimester of pregnancy. Surveyed women were divided into 2 groups: group 1 included 30 pregnant women – forced migrant of Donetsk and Lugansk area and 2 group – 30 pregnant women who resided in Kiev. Results. At the same clinical picture of the threat of premature birth we detected discrepancy between the subjective assessment of their condition in women – forced migrants: a high level of situational and personal anxiety, decrease in physical (physical functioning, role-physical functioning) and psychological (social functioning, role emotional functioning) health, doubtful and pathological subtypes of gestational dominant. This creates prerequisites for complications of pregnancy, childbirth and postpartum future period and requires the participation of psychologists in the work with this category of patients. Conclusion. So, revealed a discrepancy between the objective clinical signs similar obstetric pathology (on the example of threatened abortion) in pregnant women with different levels of stress load and their subjective evaluation of their condition that affects their psychological status. This should be reflected in individually tailored therapy and be mainstreamed into the work of obstetricians and gynecologists with these patients, and requires mandatory participation of psychologists in the work with this category of patients. The aim of the study was to form the model of correlation between intuitiveness and anticipatory consistency in case of neurotic and somatoform disorders. The study included 197 patients with neurotic and somatoform disorders and 66 healthy people. We found a lower level of intuitiveness and anticipatory consistency in patients with neurotic disorders than in healthy people. Correlation and cluster analyses have shown that anticipatory inconsistency and a reduced intuitiveness play a significant role in the mechanisms of neurosis development. Intuitiveness in neurotic and somatoform disorders is the link between anticipatory consistency and psychological defense mechanisms in the general system of coping with stress.

Abstract Objectives Nausea and vomiting have psychological negative effects on some pregnant women during gestation. Different strategies have been used for the treatment of nausea and vomiting during pregnancy, such as acupressure and psychological interventions. This study was conducted to evaluate the effects of psychological counseling and acupressure based on couple therapy procedures on vomiting and nausea in pregnant women in Iran. Methods Two hundred and eight women were divided into four groups (n=52): 1) they did not any intervention (control group), 2) they received the psychological intervention, 3) they received acupressure intervention, and 4) they received a combination of psychological + acupressure interventions. To investigate the effects of interventions on nausea and vomiting, the Rhodes index of nausea, vomiting and retching were used. The counseling period has lasted for 4 weeks. The pressure intervention on the site was conducted in clockwise form for 1 min and anticlockwise form for another 1 min. Results Groups did not have a significant difference for abortion and income (p>0.05). The effects of counseling, and acupressure interventions on severity and period of vomiting and nausea were not significant (p>0.05), but the intervention based on counseling and acupressure decreased severity of vomiting and nausea (p<0.05). Conclusions The intervention based on counseling and acupressure could not reduce nausea and vomiting during the gestation, but the intervention based on a combination of both decreased nausea and vomiting. It can be suggested to apply an intervention based on a combination of counseling and acupressure in short-time period for decreasing nausea and vomiting in women during pregnancy.
