The article presents the teaching work of Beata Dąbrowska (1960-2016) at Maria Curie-Skłodowska University, Institute of Music. During over 30 years of her work at the University, Beata Dąbrowska – a conductor and teacher – educated several dozen graduates. As part of her teaching duties, she taught courses in choral conducting, reading the scores, vocal band, methodology of conducting vocal band, and in choir and choral literature. The classes in these subjects focused on choral music, which she liked the most. This text presents the methods and the style of her work during classes in choral conducting, reading the scores and choral literature. The description of her teaching, including, inter alia, manual and technical aspects of conducting, repertoire and interpretative issues, has been complemented with the remembrances by her students: graduates of the Institute of Music: Milena Lis and Izabela Urban and students – Kinga Rdzak and Jagoda Pondel. These memories confirm that Professor Dąbrowska – a person of great personal culture – conducted her classes with extreme calm and self-control. She was a demanding teacher but at the same time she created a warm and cordial atmosphere.

Discriminant analysis was used to examine personality differences among science-oriented students of high ability who were studying in three different learning environments and a normative group. From 253 students in Grades 10 to 12 enrolled in The University of Iowa Summer Science Training Program data were collected. Personality was assessed by administering the California Psychological Inventory. Girls scored significantly higher on 8 scales (i.e., Dominance, Capacity for Status, Self-control, Social Presence, Self-acceptance, Achievement via Independence, Intellectual Efficiency, and Psychological-mindedness) than the norm. Boys scored significantly higher on 5 scales (i.e., Dominance, Capacity for Status, Achievement via Conformance, Achievement via Independence, and Psychological-mindedness) than the norm. Both sex and learning environment significantly affected the students' scale scores. High School Rank did not affect scale scores. Differences between the sexes were greatest in the structured formal classroom setting where girls rated higher than boys on 5 scales (i.e., Capacity for Status, Tolerance, Socialization, Achievement via Independence, and Femininity).

The British choral tradition is rooted in its ancient cathedrals and chapels, where the office of Evensong is sung, often daily. In addition, choral societies are to be found in most localities where singers come together and perform some of the major works in the western canon. Although singing itself occurs in a variety of forms this chapter looks at conductor-led choral singing. It does not give a fulsome picture of UK choral conducting and singing. Nonetheless, through a brief history starting from the John Curwen’s tonic sol-fa ideas for singing and culminating in a 20th century choral music renaissance; through an analysis of the English choral tradition; through a consideration of revivals of UK singing such as “Sing Up”; and through questionnaires and interviews with conductors and singers, the chapter explores some of the personal, cultural and sociological, educational, and musical issues and interests that can be found in the United Kingdom now.

The focus of the study was the usability evaluation of the Punjab University Library (PUL) website. The main objectives of the study were to ascertain the feelings of website users along with the efficiency of the system with reference to its goals and tasks. Similarly, the adaptability of users to the web and its uses were also determined. The study also dealt with the assistance which may be provided to users to resolve system problems, difficulties and users' opinions about the consistency and standardization of the PUL website. To achieve these objectives, the study was processed through multi-phases. In the first stage a comprehensive literature review was conducted to understand the theoretical and technical aspects of the study. In the second phase, data were collected through a questionnaire instrument that was developed by Oulanov and Pajarillo (2001). A survey of four faculties was conducted which included 13 departments. The population was defined through stratified random sampling method. Data was collected from 300 respondents and was analyzed by using SPSS. Findings of the study reveal that PUL website proves favourable in two out of five criteria particularly in terms of ‘affect' and ‘efficiency'. The data show that affect and efficiency are more outcome oriented than the technical aspects of ‘learnability', ‘control' and ‘helpfulness.' The PU library was rated according to a variety of degrees, specifically ‘learnability' and control which was rated higher than ‘helpfulness.' This is basically the performance measurement that focuses on the user and effect of this process on the users.

Improving the efficiency of the students' learning process, finding ways to activate their independence, the teacher and the student entering into a productive dialogue are topical issues of modern education. In the conditions of the credit system of teaching students, the main tasks are to unify the amount of knowledge, create conditions for maximum individualization of training, strengthen the role and effectiveness of independent work of students. We believe that students' mastery of self-control and mutual control skills through the use of criteria-based assessment technology is extremely necessary, and the use of criteria allows us to assess the advantages and disadvantages of specific assessment procedures. The article describes the results of a pedagogical study conducted by the authors among students of the 1-2 courses of the Innovative Eurasian University, where the method of L.V. Baiborodova was chosen as a tool to identify problems of interaction between a teacher and students. In the course of the study, the problems encountered by students in the learning process were analyzed, algorithms for organizing and conducting lectures and practical classes were proposed, allowing the teacher and the student to build an effective interaction process, the results of testing the proposed algorithms were described. The conducted experiment showed that the use of criteria-based assessment allows to effectively organize pedagogical interaction at the university.
