Background: The development of era has caused many declines in the quality of human health for all people, especially students. Sedentary behavior plays an important role in affecting sleep quality for a student. Sleep quality has a lot of correlations with various aspects, such as physical fitness. Good quality sleep will give an opportunity for the body to restore muscular strength, prolong the life of body cells, increase well-being, and leading to good physical fitness as well. Objective of the study was to find out the correlation between sleep quality and physical fitness among medical students of Udayana University.Methods: This research was an observational study with a cross-sectional method using the PSQI (Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index) questionnaires and HST (Harvard Step Test) to 50 respondents.Results: Fisher's Exact Test results showed no relationship (p>0.05) between sleep quality and physical fitness in medical students. This condition can be influenced by several other factors such as genetic factors, physical activity, nutritional status as seen from the percentage of fat, lifestyle, and psychological conditions.Conclusions: There is no correlation between sleep quality and physical fitness among medical student of Udayana University. Further research is needed related to other factors that affect medical student’s physical fitness.

Abstract The study aimed to investigate the relationships between academic motivation and the psychological well-being of 1st-year medical students during the COVID-19 pandemic. The total number of respondents in the cross-sectional study was 273. Intrinsic motivation was positively correlated with fear of COVID-19 and negatively correlated with psychological collapse and negative changes in quality of life due to the COVID-19. Extrinsic motivation positively associated with fear of COVID-19. Amotivation positively correlated with psychological collapse and negative changes in quality of life. In conclusion, COVID-19-related changes in quality of life and psychological destruction were predictors of academic motivation among 1st-year medical students.

Stress is a general wear and tear of the body, being responsible for changes in the state of health and well-being of the individual. The present study had as objective apply an Inventory of Stress Symptoms among both medical and physiotherapy students, compare and identify the stage of stress they encounter. This is a descriptive and cross-sectional study. The sample consisted of students of the 4th year of both Medicine and Physiotherapy courses from Universidade de Franca- São Paulo, volunteers, regardless of sex or ethnicity. An inventory of Stress Symptoms I.S.S. Lipp to characterize the stress phase of students. A total of 70 students participated in the study, 25 of which were physiotherapists, 22 male and 48 female, 21.92 ± 1.57 years old, and 45 medical students, with a mean age of 24, 87 + 4.26 years. In both courses, the sample analyzed showed a predominance in the Resistance phase, corresponding to a score of 4.26 in relation to medical students and 1.57 in physiotherapy. Based on the data from the present study, it was possible to identify that the students of the health area are in a predominantly Exhaustion phase, according to the Lipp inventory. Avaliação da Fase de Estresse em Estudantes da Área da Saúde O estresse é causado pelas alterações psicofisiológicas que ocorrem quando o indivíduo é forçado a enfrentar situações que o irritem. O presente estudo teve como objetivo aplicar um Inventário de Sintomas de estresse entre estudantes de medicina e fisioterapia, comparar e identificar a fase de estresse que eles se encontram. Trata-se de um estudo de caráter descritivo e transversal. A amostra foi composta por estudantes do 4º ano do curso de Medicina e de Fisioterapia da Universidade de Franca- São Paulo, voluntários,sem distinção de sexo ou etnia. Foi aplicado um Inventário de Sintomas de estresse I.S.S. Lipp para caracterizar a fase do estresse dos estudantes. Participaram deste estudo70 estudantes, 25 do curso de Fisioterapia, com idade 21,92 + 1,57 anos e 45 estudantes do curso de medicina, com idade média de 24,87 + 4,26 anos. A amostra analisada apresenta, em ambos os cursos, uma predominância na fase de Resistência, correspondendo um escore de 4,26 em relação aos estudantes de Medicina e 1,57 aos de Fisioterapia. Com base nos resultados dos dados do presente estudo, foi possível identificar que os estudantes da área de saúde encontram-se em uma fase predominantemente de Exaustão segundo o inventário de Lipp.

Background: In recent years the internet had become the most indispensable tool for students for learning, entertainment, and communication. Internet over-usage had emerged as a major problem among students causing the emergence of a problem that is defined as internet addiction (IA) which affects sleep and leads to several mental health problems. This study is the step toward understanding the effect of internet addiction on sleep quality among medical college students in Pondicherry. Methods: This was a cross-sectional study. It is a questionnaire-based study administrated among 298 consenting medical students. The participants were assessed by proforma containing demographic details, variables related to internet use, questionnaires of Internet Addiction Test, and Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index for Sleep quality. Statistical data were analysed by SPSS-25. Results: A total of 287 students participated; 113 (39.4%) were males and 174 (60.6%) are females. Out of which Average users were 244 (85.01%) and problematic internet usage was 43 (14.99%), whereas poor sleep quality is found in 132 (45.99%) individuals. A significant correlation was found between internet addiction and the quality of sleep. Conclusions: Participants with problematic internet users were more likely to have a poor quality of sleep and vice versa.

Introduction: the COVID-19 pandemic incited unprecedented global restrictions on society’s behavior. Home detachment and isolation measures applied during the COVID-19 pandemic can result in problems with sleep quality. It is an important measure to reduce the risk of infection from the COVID-19 outbreak. Objective: to investigate the existence of a difference between the quality of sleep before and during the home distance imposed by the Covid-19 pandemic. Methods: cross-sectional web-based survey was sent using different conventional social media to collect data from the study population. The evaluated group was composed of 124 subjects, 57 of whom were male and 67 were female from the city of Rio Branco / AC. For this study, the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index questionnaire (PSQI-BR) and a socio-demographic questionnaire were used. The volunteers received a link along with the description and purpose of the study. Finally, data analysis was performed using SPSS 22.0 software. Results: sleep quality worsened significantly during home distance in four sleep components (subjective sleep quality, sleep latency, sleep drowsiness and overall PSQI score). During social distance, poor sleep was greater among respondents (OR = 5.68; 95% CI = 1.80–17.82; p = 0.70). Conclusion: the results indicated that there was a significant difference between the quality of sleep before and during home detachment and sleep disturbance and the subjective quality of sleep before and during the period of the outbreak of COVID-19 were the components that most worsened in the state of sleep

SUMMARY OBJECTIVE Evaluate the quality of sleep and its association with the use of computers and cell-phones among medicine and dentistry students. METHODS Cross-sectional and comparative study, which evaluated 425 students through a socioeconomic questionnaire, the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index(PSQI), and a questionnaire on their use of computers and cell phones. RESULTS Poor sleep quality was observed in 61.4% of medical students and in 60.1% of dentistry students. Medical students with poor sleep quality had a higher mean time of computer use at night when compared to those with good sleep quality (p=0.04), as well as for computer (p<0.001) and cell phone use (p<0.01) immediately before bedtime. Dentistry students with poor sleep quality had a higher average time of computer use before bedtime than those with good sleep quality (p=0.03). CONCLUSION Students should receive guidance on prevention strategies and quality of sleep care.

ABSTRACT Introduction: Sleep is an integral part of human physiology; therefore, disorders of sleep may result in significant derangement in human functionality. Sleep medicine has received little attention in Nigeria. Against this backdrop, this survey seeks to evaluate the quality of sleep among doctors. Methodology: This was a cross-sectional descriptive study involving 59 doctors working with Federal Medical Centre Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi State, Nigeria; it was done between August 2017 and December 2017. Purposive sampling method was adopted. The Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) and the Epworth Sleepiness Scale (ESS) were adopted. The questionnaire was self-administered. Results: There were 34 (57.6%) males and 25 (42.4%) females. Their age ranged from 20 to 66 years, with a mean of 34.39 ± 8.00. The Epworth score ranged from 8 to 29, with a mean of 16.1 ± 4.4, while the PSQI score ranged from 5 to 19, with a mean of 9.5 ± 2.7. The mean work hour per week was 90.3 ± 36.2 h, and majority of the respondents worked for >80 h and or >24 h consecutively in the preceding week, and most had high ESS scores; however, this observation was not statistically significant (Fisher's exact test = 4.0904, P = 0.213). All respondents were poor sleepers and majority sleep for <7 h in the night. Respondents had worked for 5 years and less; house officers and medical offers had more tendencies for daytime sleepiness. Conclusion: All respondents were poor sleepers and also had prolonged work hours per week; there was also heightened daytime sleepiness.

ABSTRACT   The addition of age and the variation of physical activity of each individual will increase the stress affecting the quality of sleep so that research done to determine the quality of sleep in adults who participateaikido martial arts with adults who noparticipateaikido martial arts as physical activity that can reduce stress level. The cross sectional analytic study with the sample was adults who fulfilled the inclusion and exclusion criteria of 86 people in each group. Samples filling out the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) questionnaire and the results were tested with a fisher exact test. The results showed a significant difference between sleep quality in two groups (p <0.05). With the percentage of result that is group A has good sleep quality 82 people (95,3%) and bad 4 people (4,7%), group B have good sleep quality 59 people (68,6%) and bad 27 people (31, 4%). So the conclusion is that groups of adults who participateaikido martial arts have better sleep quality than adults who no participate aikido martial arts.   Keywords: Adult, Stess, Sleep Quality, Aikido Martial Arts.

Abstract: Sleep is defined as a subconscious condition when the individual may be arose from sleep by giving him or her with stimulation which is a crucial process for human beings in the formation of new body cells, the improvement of damaged cells, and to maintain the balance of body metabolism and biochemistry. The quality of sleep described by less time of sleep have impact on the body, as biological process taking place at the moment of sleep would be disturbed. One of them is disturbance in the formation of hemoglobin in which a change shall be occurring where the content of hemoglobin is lower than its normal value. This study is analytical descriptive using a cross-sectional approach. Of 78 samples under study, the good quality sleep is 7 persons (9.0%) and the bad is 71 persons (91.0%). Normal content of hemoglobin is 40 person (51.3%) and abnormal is 38 persons (48,7%). The good quality sleep and normal content of hemoglobin is 4 persons (57.1%) and abnormal is 3 persons (42.9%). The bad quality sleep and normal content of hemoglobin is 36 persons (50.77%) and abnormal is 35 persons (49.3%). Conclusion: Most of students at Faculty of Medicine, Sam Ratulangi University, have bad quality sleep and normal content of hemoglobin. There are no differences between the content of hemoglobin from the 5th semester student in Medical Faculty student with who has good and bad sleep quality.Keywords: quality of sleep, hemoglobin Abstrak: Tidur didefinisikan sebagai suatu keadaan bawah sadar saat orang tersebut dapat dibangunkan dengan pemberian ransangan yang juga merupakan proses yang sangat dibutuhkan manusia untuk pembentukan sel-sel tubuh yang baru, perbaikan sel-sel tubuh yang rusak maupun untuk menjaga keseimbangan metabolisme dan biokimiawi tubuh. Kualitas tidur yang digambarkan dengan waktu tidur yang kurang akan membawa dampak bagi tubuh karena proses biologis yang terjadi saat tidur akan ikut terganggu. Salah satunya adalah pembentukan kadar hemoglobin yang terganggu dimana akan terjadi perubahan dimana kadar hemoglobin menjadi lebih rendah dari nilai normalnya. Penelitian ini bersifat deskriptif-analitik dengan pendekatan potong lintang. Dari 78 sampel pemelitian, kualitas tidur yang baik sebanyak 7 orang (9,0 %) dan yang buruk sebanyak 71 orang (91,0 %). Kadar hemoglobin normal sebanyak 40 orang (51,3 %) dan tidak normal sebanyak 38 orang (48,7 %). Kualitas tidur baik dengan kadar hemoglobin normal adalah 4 orang (57,1 %) dan kadar hemoglobin tidak normal adalah 3 orang (42,9 %). Kualitas tidur buruk dengan kadar hemoglobin normal adalah 36 orang (50,7 %) dan kadar hemoglobin tidak normal adalah 35 orang (49,3 %). Simpulan: Sebaigan besar mahasiswa Fakultas Kedokteran Unsrat mempunyai kualitas tidur yang buruk dan mempunyai kadar hemoglobin yang normal. Tidak terdapat perbedaan kadar hemoglobin pada mahasiswa semester 5 Fakultas Kedokteran Unsrat dengan kualitas tidur yang baik dan yang buruk. Kata kunci: kualitas tidur, hemoglobin

Introduction: Corona Virus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) is highly contagious, has spread across the world rapidly and has taken many lives. All these have created a lot of concern for people leading to heightened levels of anxiety as a common response to this dreadful situation. It not only has affected physically but psychologically as well including sleep quality. This study aimed to assess employees and their spouses’ level of anxiety and sleep quality. Methods: A cross sectional study was conducted to find out level of anxiety and quality of sleep among employees and their spouses in Nepal during COVID-19 pandemic from June 14, 2020, to July 4, 2020. Web based Google forms and printed questionnaire were used to collect data as required. Total enumerative sampling technique was used where 128 responses were received. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and inferential statistics. P value was significant at 0.05. Ethical approval was obtained from Institutional Review Committee of Patan Academy of Health Sciences. Results: The overall prevalence of COVID-19 dysfunctional anxiety was 1.6% and poor quality sleep was 39.1%. There was no significant association of age, gender and status of respondents with quality of sleep at 95% of significance level (p-value=.089, .887, .964 respectively). Conclusion: From findings of the study, it is concluded that though only few respondents had dysfunctional covid-19 anxiety, about two fifth respondents had poor quality of sleep. Therefore, poor quality sleep could be addressed, and counselling could be performed on time. Key words: COVID-19 anxiety, employee, sleep quality, spouse.
