Aim. The article discusses the current state of medical tourism, problems and prospects in order to assess the obstacles and limitations in creating tourist health villages in the Iranian province of Yazd.Materials and Methods. The data were obtained using the analytical and documentary method with a focus on content analysis and by interviewing and questionnaires of key experts of the region: this allowed the identifation and development indices for the development of medical tourism in the development of health villages.Results. During the first stage, data analysis was performed using the MAXQDA-11 program. In the second stage, the data obtained were studied in order to assess the state of these indices using the SOWAT model. Priorities were then set and the specific weight of obstacles and restrictions was calculated using complex criteria.Conclusions. Poor transportation provision for medical tourists due to the limited number of domestic and international flights, unavailability of treatment and followup after discharge, ineffective insurance legislation and lack of appropriate new legislation were identified as the main obstacles to the development of medical tourism. Accordingly, long-term and short-term strategies should be developed and implemented in accordance with these issues. On the other hand, taking into account the restrictions and obstacles noted, we have proposed locations suitable for building health villages at a minimum distance from Yazd. These are indicated on a map created using the Arc GIS program. During project implementation, strategic objectives were developed.

The two-staged WWTP ‘Gut Grosslappen’ has a capacity of 2 mio. PE. It comprises a pre-denitrification in the first stage using recirculation from the nitrifying second stage. A residual post-denitrification in a downstream sand filter is required in order to achieve the effluent standards. Presently the process water from sludge digestion is treated separately by nitrification/denitrification. Due to necessary reconstruction of the biological stages, the process water treatment was included in the future overall process concept of the WWTP. A case study was conducted comparing the processes nitritation/denitrititation and deammonification with nitrification/denitrification including their effect on the operational costs of the planned main flow treatment. Besides the different operating costs the investment costs required for the process water treatment played a significant role. Six cases for the process water treatment were compared. As a result, in Munich deammonification can only be recommended for long-term future developments, due to the high investment costs, compared with the nitritation/denitritation alternative realizable in existing tanks. The savings concerning aeration, sludge disposal and chemicals were not sufficient to compensate for the additional investment costs. Due to the specific circumstances in Munich, for the time being the use of existing tanks for nitritation/denitritation proved to be most economical.

Introduction. The digital economy is a key catalyst for the economic growth of developing nations. However, because developing nations often lack the resources needed to grow in this area, it is essential for a developing nation to focus on identifying obstacles and to strategize toward long-term improvement. We study the current state of digital economies among developing nations, and evaluate the causes of their limitations. Specifically, we use the Russian Federation’s strategy for the development of their digital economy as a case study for identifying common issues that developing nations face in this area. Russia's integration into common research areas (spaces) within Europe and Eurasia is an effective tool for improving its research potential and achieving long-term economic growth. The methodological support for such processes, including issues of international legal regulation, is lacking. Given current geopolitics, especially vital for Russia is its cooperation in research, technology and innovation (RTI) with the countries of the former Soviet Union. The article focuses on newly adopted policies and mechanisms of the Russian RTI cooperation within CIS, EAEU and the Union State of Russia and Belarus. The authors identify modern approaches, principles, current state and trends of the RTI cooperation discussed. Among them are: forming an international RTI agenda and similar priority cooperation areas for the long term perspective; developing relevant institutional support; participating in international organizations’ activity; developing world-class joint research infrastructure; resolving human resources issues; determining volumes and sources of funding. The choice of common priority areas - energy, medicine, ICT and nanotechnology - corresponds to the strategic objectives of the participating countries and global challenges. Further strengthening of RTI cooperation in the post-Soviet area will have a synergistic effect. Taking into account the identified differences, the authors formulate recommendations on the improvement of international legal regulation of RTI cooperation in the region.

Purpose. Disseminating knowledge on tourist space as a subject of study (ontological aspect) and methods for researching (describing and measuring) it, including paradigms and applied research approaches (epistemological aspect). Research hypothesis: the measure of tourism (tourist space) development is the achievement, within a given area, a state of long-term sustainability, defined as the situation in which the (widely understood) benefits outweigh (widely understood) costs of tourism development incurred by all (direct and indirect) groups of stakeholders. Method. The first part of the paper provides an overview. On the basis of the existing definitions and ways of understanding or delimiting tourist space, different measures (including measures of tourist space development) were distinguished and classified. In the second part of the paper, the results of a pilot research project investigating the state of sustainability of tourist space (tourism) in the town of Jastarnia were presented (case study). The research project was carried out using an innovative research method based on a model of sustainable tourism. This was a qualitative project and the obtained results have been quantified. Findings. The current state of tourism (tourist space) in Jastarnia was found to meet the criteria of sustainability, although certain sub-groups of respondents reported lack of sustainability in the component of costs. Research and conclusion limitations. The results of the empirical research reflect the current state (2015). The research project was carried out on a determined sample (it is not representative). Practical implications. The proposed method can be used for assessing the state of tourism at any destination. The obtained results can serve as a guide in the decision making process regarding the directions of tourism development. Originality. An innovative empirical research method has been applied. Type of paper. The first part of the paper provides an overview. The second part contains results of an empirical research project.

This chapter presents a case study of the Israeli National Biodiversity Monitoring Program (IBM) that encompasses a diverse set of ecosystems. Israel is located at a crossroads of Africa, Asia, and Europe. It sits at the southeastern tip of the Mediterranean ecosystem, bordering the vast Saharo-Arabian desert belt to its south and connected via the Rift Valley to the heights of Southeast Asia and the dry tropical ecosystems of East Africa. This combination of geography and ecology provides habitats for a remarkably high number of species, but the high densities of Israel's population and its rapid development, intensive land use, and climatic change threaten this biodiversity. A key component of a strategy to conserve biodiversity is a monitoring program that can identify the current state and trends—stable, declining, or thriving—of biodiversity in a country. The case study discusses the goals and implementation of the IBM, with particular attention to the challenges of replication and repeatability in this long-term monitoring program.
