Objective: Diabetes is a common chronic disorder in which there is a high risk of physical complications and psychological problems such as hypoglycemia and inability to express emotions. Psychological interventions can be effective in this regard. The aim of this study was to investigate the effectiveness of mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR) training on emotional expressiveness and fear of hypoglycemia (FOH) in patients with type 2 diabetes visiting Yazd Diabetes Center. Materials and Methods: This study was a quasi-experimental study with a pretest and posttest design. The statistical population was all patients with type 2 diabetes visiting Yazd Diabetes Center in 2020. Forty men and women were selected using purposeful sampling and were randomly allocated to case and control groups. The case group received 8 sessions of MBSR training, 2 hours each and the control group received no interventions. Emotional Expressiveness Questionnaire (EEQ) and the Hypoglycemia Fear Survey (HFS) were used to collect data. Results: Results of ANCOVA showed that MBSR training significantly increases emotional expressiveness and its components (P-value< 0.0001) and decreases the fear of hypoglycemia (P-value< 0.0001) in patients with type 2 diabetes (P-value< 0.035). Conclusion: Based on the results of the study, MBSR training could improve emotional expressiveness, prevent hypoglycemia and reduce the fear of it.

Objective: Preventing chronic diseases is important for public health. The aim of this study was evaluation the effectiveness of positive psychology (PP) training on rumination and depression in women with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Materials and Methods: This research was a quasi-experimental design and a pre-test-post-test with a control group. The statistical population of the present study consisted of women with T2DM. By referring to the medical centers of regions 7, 4, 11, and 16 in Tehran, 30 people were selected by purposive sampling method. Data collection tools in this study were two standard questionnaires of Nolen-Hoeksema and Beck Depression (1978) and positive educational training and guidance protocol. Data were analyzed using SPSS ver. 21. Results: The results showed that PP training has a positive and significant effect on decrease rumination in women with T2DM (Pvalue= 0.001). Also, PP training has a positive and significant effect on reducing depression in women with T2DM (P-value= 0.002). The PP training had a greater effect on rumination in women with T2DM than depression. Conclusion: Positive training in psychology has an impact on rumination and depression in women with T2DM, according to the findings. The findings of the study show that therapeutic intervention for rumination and stress is subordinated to the health network's planned working processes.

Objective. The aim of the study was to determine the effect of mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR) intervention on emotion regulation and glycemic control of patients with type 2 diabetes. Materials and Methods. Sixty patients with type 2 diabetes were recruited for this randomized controlled trial from an outpatient clinic at Imam Hospital in Iran. The intervention group participated in 8 sessions of MBSR, and the control group continued the treatment as usual. Fasting blood sugar and HbA1c were measured as two indices of glycemic control. Overall mental health, depression, and anxiety were measured using the General Health Questionnaire (GHQ-28), Hamilton Depression Rating Scale (HDRS), and Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale (HARS), respectively. All the assessments were performed at baseline and after 8 weeks and 3 months as follow-up. Results. In comparison with the control group, the MBSR intervention group showed a significant reduction on all outcome measures including FBS, HbA1C, HARS, and HDRS scores (p<0/05). Conclusion. MBSR had a remarkable improvement on emotional wellbeing and glycemic control of patients with type 2 diabetes.

BACKGROUND:Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus is a major non-communicable disease resulting from insulin resistance and is associated with cardiovascular,neurological and renal complications.Recent studies show association of hyperuricemia and Diabetes Mellitus.Uric acid increases oxidative stress that leads to vascular dysfunction and high intra glomerular pressure leading to renal complications.High serum creatinine is an indicator of renal compromise. OBJECTIVES: To evaluate serum uric acid and serum creatinine levels in type 2 diabetes mellitus patients and to find association between them. METHODOLOGY: The study was conducted in Osmania general hospital. Fifty cases of established Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus formed the study group and 50 normal healthy individuals formed the control group. Serum uric acid, Fasting Blood Glucose (FBS) and serum creatinine were estimated by colorimetric enzymatic methods on Beckman coulter AU5800.Mean values were compared in cases and controls using student t- test.Study group was further studied under 2 subgroups with serum Uric acid < 7 mg/dl and ≥7 mg/dl.In these 2 subgroups the association of Serum uric acid with FBS and creatinine was analysed statistically. RESULTS: Serum uric acid were found high in cases(7.63+/- 3.36)as compared to controls(4.48+/- 1.09) p value < 0.001.Serum creatinine were also high in cases(1.59+/- 1.39 )as compared to controls ( 0.87+/- 0.29) p value <0.005.Study subgroup with serum uric acid ≥7 mg/dl was associated with high creatinine and high fasting blood sugar levels when compared to subgroup with serum uric acid <7 mg/dl. CONCLUSION: Our study showed increased serum uric acid and serum creatinine levels in cases when compared to controls.There was significant association between high serum uric acid and high creatinine levels in cases.Therefore,it is important to measure serum uric acid and serum creatinine levels in diabetics for early detection of renal pathology.

Introduction and Objectives: One of the problems of diabetes in the elderly is the likelihood of another condition that makes it more difficult to control blood sugar. This study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of solution-based therapy on self-compassion and blood glucose reduction in elderly patients with type 2 diabetes. Materials and Methods: This quasi-experimental study was conducted based on a pretest-posttest design with a control group and follow-up. The statistical population of the study consisted of 60-75-year-old patients with type 2 diabetes referring to Iranian Diabetes Association treatment centers in Tehran, Iran. A total of 36 patients were selected and randomly assigned into two groups of experimental and control. The data were collected using a self-compassion questionnaire and glycated hemoglobin test (HbA1c). The HbA1c test was also administered two months after the end of the training to follow-up and evaluate the sustainability of the treatment effects. The data were analyzed in SPSS software (version 26) through repeated measure ANOVA. Results: The results showed that the solution-based therapy increased self-compassion in the posttest phase (P<0.01), and the effect of treatment was maintained after two months (P<0.01). Moreover, solution-based therapy reduced blood glucose levels in the posttest phase (P<0.01) and retained the effect of treatment after two months (P<0.01). Conclusion: It can be concluded that solution-based therapy has effects on self-compassion and hyperglycemia in elderly patients with type 2 diabetes; moreover, it can be used in treatment centers to improve the status of patients with diabetes.

Background: Diabetes mellitus is a non-communicable disease that is included in the category of chronic diseases and expected to experience an increase, so that a way to control is needed by the Ministry of Health in the form of clever management of diabetes mellitus. This study aimed to analyze the effect of EMAS (education, nutrition management, physical activity, stress management) on behavior change and adult blood sugar control with diabetes mellitus type 2. Methods: Quasi Experiment Pre-Post Test Without Control Group Design for 6 months, October 2018 to March 2019. Samples were taken by purposive sampling technique, namely adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus in Cisalak Pasar Sub-District Ciamnggis District, Depok City as many as 86 people. Results: Changes in behavior and control of adult blood sugar with type 2 diabetes mellitus through EMAS intervention (p value 0.001 <0.05). Conclusion: Changes in adult behavior with type 2 diabetes mellitus are needed to stabilize the patient's blood sugar. Therefore, it takes the role of the nurse specialist community to provide interventions according to the needs of people with diabetes mellitus to manage the disease.Keywords: Intervention EMAS; Behavior change; Glucose control; Type 2 diabetes mellitus

Background: Among different complications of diabetes, ddiabetic retinopathy is one of the leading causes of blindness in the world. Increase in the frequency of lower serum magnesium levels have been reported among patients with diabetes. Materials and methods: A total of 120 subjects were included in this study and divided into 3 groups. The study groups consisted of 40 patients that are type 2 diabetes with retinopathy and 40 patients with type 2 diabetes without retinopathy and control group consisted of 40 healthy subjects respectively. Both cases and controls were subjected to estimation of biochemical parameters. Results: Among the study population, (80) 66.67% participants were cases and another (40) 33.33% participants were controls. Among the people who had mild NPDR, the median Mg was 1.90 (IQR 1.80, 2.00). It was 1.90 (1.70, 2.00), 1.75 (1.67, 1.92), 1.8 (1.69, 2.0) and 2.10 (1.90, 2.20) among people with DM retinopathy moderate NPDR, severe NPDR, Proliferative retinopathy and no retinopathy respectively. The difference in the Mg across DM retinopathy was statistically significant (P Value 0.008). The difference between the values among both the case and control groups for certain parameters such as SBP, FBG, PPBG, HbA1c, Magnesium, Urea, and Creatinine were found to be statistically significant. Conclusion: Serum magnesium levels were significantly lower in patients with diabetic retinopathy compared to diabetics without complications and control group. Introduction and Aim:The atherosclerosis is the major cause of morbidity and mortality among diabetes population. Diabetes mellitus can accelerate atherosclerotic processes. Adenosine deaminase (ADA) plays a significant role in both glucose and lipid metabolism through adenosine. This study aimed to correlate the atherosclerotic index with adenosine deaminase levels in Type 2 diabetes mellitus patients. The aim of the study is to find the association between serum ADA levels with atherosclerotic index.   Materials and Methods: A cross sectional study conducted in 100 subjects (50 control and 50 T2DM patients). The following biochemical parameter were estimated:total cholesterol, triacylglycerol, HDL- C and ADA. VLDL, LDL and other atherosclerotic index were calculated using formulae. Statistical analysis such as Student’s‘t’ test and Pearson’s correlation were performed.   Results: We found significant increase (p value <0.001) in lipid profile, Non-HDL-C and lipid ratio when compared to T2DM with control group. The correlation of serum ADA with lipid profile and lipid ratio didnot show any correlation.   Conclusion: Serum ADA used as a biomarker for evaluation of glycemic status. ADA was insignificant, when correlated with dyslipidemia and atherosclerotic index.

ObjectiveThe main objective of the present study is to investigate effectiveness of mindfulness-based stress reduction in anxiety and depression in patients with multiple sclerosis.MethodsThis study is in kind of semi-experimental research in form of pretest–posttest pattern with control group. Statistical population of the study consists of all patients with multiple sclerosis referred to Iran MS Association by 2016. Sampling method in this study is available sampling and based on having inclusion criteria. Among depressed and anxiety patients 30 individuals were selected randomly and were classified in two groups with 15 people in each group. Experimental group was under mindfulness-based training on stress reduction for 8 sessions. Control group was also in waiting list. All patients in experimental and control groups fulfilled depression and anxiety inventories before and after intervention. Obtained data was analyzed using MANCOVA and in SPSS22 software.FindingObtained results show that there is significant difference between the two groups in terms of anxiety and depression after intervention (P < 0.001).ConclusionMindfulness-based stress reduction can help reduction of symptoms of anxiety and depression in patients with MS.Disclosure of interestThe authors have not supplied their declaration of competing interest.

Background: The undesirable conditions resulting from addiction can be mitigated with timely diagnosis and effective interventions. Distress tolerance can be promoted in adolescents with a drug-dependent parent. Objectives: The present study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR) therapy and emotion regulation training (ERT) on the distress tolerance of adolescent girls with a drug-dependent parent in Ahvaz, Iran. Methods: This clinical trial was performed on the experimental and control groups as the pretest-posttest design with follow-up. The statistical population included all the adolescent girl students with a drug-dependent parent in Ahvaz. The sample consisted of 45 adolescents with a drug-dependent parent selected by cluster sampling. The participants were randomly divided into two experimental groups of MBSR (eight 60-min sessions) and ERT (eight 45-min sessions) and a control group (n = 15 per group). All three groups were followed up after 45 days. The research instrument was the Distress Tolerance Scale (DTS), and data were analyzed using the analysis of covariance. Results: MBSR and ERT enhanced distress tolerance in adolescent girls with a drug-dependent parent (P < 0.001). The effects of the two interventions were not significantly different, and this result persisted in the follow-up stage. Conclusions: MBSR and ERT increased distress tolerance in adolescent girls with a drug-dependent parent. Therefore, these two interventions can be administered to enhance the mental health of adolescents.

Background: DM (Diabetes Mellitus) is a chronic/chronic metabolic disorder characterized by an increase in blood glucose levels (hyperglycemia) caused by insufficient amounts of insulin or insufficient amounts of insulin, sometimes even more effective, this condition is called insulin resistence. Objective: This study aims to determine the effectiveness of ma’tsurat dhikr therapy in reducing blood sugar levels in type 2 diabetes mellitus patients at dr. Dradjat Prawiranegara Hospital Serang in 2018. Methods: The number of samples of this study was 34 respondents and the method was quasi-experimental. The data was analyzed by independent T-Test. The respondents of experimental group received DM exercise and morning-evening dhikr intervention, while the control group only received DM exercise intervention. Results:The results of the study showed that ma’tsurat dhikr affects significantly on the decrease of bloods ugarlevelsinpatienntswithtype2DMatdr.DradjatPrawiranegara Hospital Serang with p value<0.005. Conclusion: Intervention of ma’tsurat dhikr can be recommended for type 2 DM patients with elevated blood sugar levels in patients.
