Introduction: Awareness of pediatric cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) is obligatory for every graduated medical student. In fact, only correct and effective Cardiopulmonary resuscitation can increase the survival rate of patients with cardiopulmonary arrest and since CPR techniques and maneuvers should be done in a specific way for children, it is important to evaluate the knowledge of pediatric resuscitation. Methods: In a cross-sectional study, multiple-choice questions were designed about basic and advanced pediatric cardiopulmonary resusitation (under 8 years) and 100 medical students enrolled in undergraduate training. Results were analyzed using the software SPSS 15. Results: The interns' advanced awareness was significantly less than the basic knowledge (P-Value < 0.001). The awareness of students who studied in CPR was higher than students who did not (P-Value < 0.027). Moreover, students who participated in the rehabilitation of children were more aware (P-Value < 0.002) and interns who attended the Heart Ward had a higher level of awareness (P-Value < 0.001). Conclusion: In general, results obtained from the interns' awareness in the present showed the importance of pediatric resuscitation training courses and participation in resuscitation operations. So, this training course should be considered as a training strategy course in the internship program.

Abstract Background The 12-lead electrocardiogram (ECG) is an indispensable screening and diagnostic tool used to identify cardiovascular abnormalities as well as fatal cardiac emergencies. Our aim was to identify whether a competency difference in interpreting ECG strips between medical students, interns, and family residents exists. Methods A cross-sectional, single-center study conducted at tertiary health care facility and its academic institution. Participants were given a self-administered questionnaire which consisted of a demographic sheet and 10-ECGs each with 9 multiple choice questions about the basic ECG parameters. Correct answer was given a 1-point score, with the minimum and maximum scores being 0 and 90, respectively. Results The total participants were 93; 54 (58.1%) medical students, 27 (29.0%) interns, and 12 (12.9%) family Medicine residents. Medical students had a statistically significant higher mean score 84.7±9.5 when compared to the medical interns 73.4±12.9 (p&lt;0.001) and family medicine residents 58.2±18.0 (p&lt;0.001). There were no differences in the mean scores between male and female medical students and interns. However, female family medicine residents had a higher mean score when compared to their male colleagues (p-value=0.04). Medical students performed better in detection of more than 65% of all ECG parameters when compared to the interns and residents. Fifty-seven (61.3%) reported that ECGs exposure during their medical program was not sufficient. Lectures were reported as the most effective modality of ECG teaching among 38 medical students (70.4%) and 9 residents (75.0%). However, 9 medical interns reported self-teaching (33.3%) as effective as standard lectures (33.3%) in teaching ECG. Conclusion Among our study cohort, medical students had higher ECGs-related skills, interpretation skill and more reading competency than medical interns and family residents. Most used method of learning ECG in all levels was lectures. Although Study generalizability is limited, refining ECG reading skills is required. Background: Medical biostatistics has got an important role in the modern medical science curriculum. The present study was planned to assess the knowledge and attitude among medical graduates regarding the role and utility of biostatistics in medical science.Methods: A cross-sectional study among 120 medical students of MBBS final professional of Saraswati Medical College, Lucknow was conducted by using a pre-designed, pre-tested and semi-structured questionnaire. A Chi-square test was applied to find a statistical association. A p value of <0.05 is considered to be significant.Results: Most of the students considered biostatistics is important and helps them in their UG/PG curriculum and thesis/dissertation. Fifty-seven per cent of the study participants are aware of any software used in the analysis of data. Males used at least anyone statistical software more than females (p=0.017). The majority of males (70.3%) and females (67.4%) expressed that it is difficult to understand the concepts of biostatistics. Almost all males (97.30%) and majority females (84.80%) reported that biostatistics textbooks need to be written in simple language (p value=0.026).Conclusions: The role of biostatistics among medical students is of utmost importance as research purpose and importance is increasing in all domains of medical sciences, moreover, the basics of biostatistics should play a pivotal role in the current medical curriculum.


Background: Information technology (IT) is a new way of teaching and learning. One of the promising media of information technology is e-Learning, which is used to enhance knowledge and skills among users. A student gains better and deep knowledge through a useful tool. This survey aimed to determine practices among medical students for e-Learning. Methods: This cross-sectional survey was conducted on 184 students amongst the 500 students currently enrolled in medical college. Data was collected using questionnaires and were analyzed through SPSS version 22. Chi-square was used for qualitative values. Results: Majority 90.80% (n=167) students were aware of e-Learning and were statistically high in first year students (p-value: 0.018). The student did not show statistically significant results for content learned through e-Learning with a p-value of 0.063. Different resources were used for e-Learning in which videos had the highest percentage (87.60%) and audios were used as the least resource for e-Learning (29.20%). Daily, 56% of the students use e-Learning for 1 hour or less and only 3% of the students used it for more than 4 hours. Conclusion: Majority of undergraduate medical students were aware of the use of e-Learning and most of them preferred e-Learning for their course work and studies showing a significant increase in understanding and use, compared to studies conducted earlier. Participants found e-Learning useful and effective tool in increasing knowledge and understanding of their subject. Keywords: e-Learning; Practices; Students.

Abstract Background Most sudden cardiac arrests occur at home, with low rates of bystander cardiopulmonary resuscitation being performed. We aimed to assess knowledge of cardiopulmonary resuscitation among individuals in Riyadh City, Saudi Arabia, who are not involved in health care. Methods A community-based cross-sectional study was conducted between January and February 2020 in 4 different areas in Riyadh City: North, South, East, and West. The participants were surveyed using a validated self-administered questionnaire. The Statistical Package for Social Sciences version 25.0 was used for inferential statistics and binary logistic regression analysis. Results A total of 856 participants completed the questionnaire, 51.8% were unaware of cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Only 4.4% of the participants had attended a formal cardiopulmonary resuscitation training course, 5.1% were campaign attendees, and 38.7% acquired their experience through the media. Having a higher level of education was positively associated with having knowledge of cardiopulmonary resuscitation. The main concern among attendees of cardiopulmonary resuscitation training courses and campaigns was legal issues, whereas inadequate knowledge was the major barrier for those who had learned about cardiopulmonary resuscitation through the media. Conclusion The level of knowledge of cardiopulmonary resuscitation among non-health care individuals in Riyadh City was found to be insufficient. Therefore, coordinated efforts among different authorities should be considered to implement a structured strategy aiming to increase awareness and knowledge of cardiopulmonary resuscitation among non-health care individuals.

Objective: Performing basic life support (BLS) in patients with cardiopulmonary arrest decreases mortality and morbidity. In addition, BLS knowledge is a prerequisite for medical graduation. The present study was conducted to determine the awareness level of undergraduate medical students in Jordan regarding BLS and background knowledge. Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted between 17 April 2021 and 12 May 2021. A validated questionnaire was used as an online Google form and was posted in all medical student groups and Jordanian universities through various social medias. We categorized level of awareness into two groups: adequate awareness for those who got 60% or more, and inadequate awareness for those who got less than 60% in BLS test. Chi-square test was used to compare different variables. Results: A total of 886 students with a mean age of 21.5 (± 2.2) years completed the survey, including 552 females (62.3%). Among participated students, only 281 (31.7%) had adequate awareness, whereas 605 (68.3%) had inadequate awareness, with a mean score of 10 (± 3.8) out of 20. Surprisingly, there was no statistically significant correlation (P=0.210) between grade point average (GPA) and awareness level among participated students. On the contrary, we detected statistically significant relationships (P<0.001) between various variables and awareness level. Conclusion: Overall, we found that awareness of BLS among medical students in Jordan is not adequate. We can improve the awareness of medical students in this regard through obligating them to educate the general population, especially school students, as a volunteer campaign.

Objective: The purpose of this study was to correlate the hypochondriacal concerns related to diseases with level of anxiety and depression symptoms among medical and engineering undergraduates. Study design and Setting: Cross sectional study was conducted among undergraduates of final year students of BUMDC (Bahria University Medical & Dental College) and engineering students from NUST- PNEC (NUST – Pakistan Navy Engineering College). Methodology: In this study; (99) final year medical students and (92) engineering students were recruited. In order to maintain consistency of age, students aging between 21–26 years were selected. Selected students were handed to fill the required ‘Self-administered Questionnaire’ comprising of demographic details, short health anxiety inventory, medical history and DASS (depression, anxiety and stress scale) which were completed on-site. Data was entered in SPSS version 21 and analyzed using Fisher’s exact test. P value < 0.05 was considered as statistically significant. Result: Out of 191 students in total from both the groups n=86 (45%) were females and n=105(55%) were males. There were 99 participants from MBBS and 92 from engineering. The participants’ ages ranged from 21-26 years with a mean= 23.95 (SD±2.29), both the cohorts belonged to approximately same age group. While assessing depression the responses were not very different for both the groups. When responses of depression scale were related to visits to psychiatrists or psychologist or psychotherapist a strong relationship was observed (p=0.012) in medical students cohort. Conclusion: The results of the study reflected comparable psychosocial strain at an elevated level among both student groups

Backgrounds: Commonly, doctors migrate for postgraduate study in African and Middle-east countries to western countries. In this study, we would like to know the percentage of graduates who intended to study abroad and determine the factors of their traveling.Material and methods: This is cross-sectional questionnaire survey. Medical students were asked about their future specialty preference, reasons, and site of training. Also, some demographic data were collected. The data was analyzed by SPSS. P value of < 0.05 was considered significant. Result and Discussion: 197 students responded to our survey and filled the questionnaire properly. Participants knew about future specialty from the teacher, the internet, senior college and advice from a family member with rate 83 (42.1%), 42 (22.8%), 41 (21.3%), and 27(13.7%) respectively. One hundred five (53.3%) of the responders preferred to get their specialty training outside Sudan while the remainder 92(46.7%) preferred local training.The commonest specialty selected among both group are medicine and surgery respectively. Obstetrics and gynecology are selected mainly among students who prefer local training 14 out of 15 totally, with statistically significant (p-value = 0.0001). Residency has significant related to the site of training with (P value 0.03). International recognition and advanced facilities are the commonest cause of traveling abroad among the students. While free hands on training and social reasons are the most common causes of home postgraduates training.Conclusion: More than fifty percent of the participant prefers abroad post-graduates training. The factors which influents site training can be defined as "Pull and Push" factors.

CONTEXT AND OBJECTIVE: Neonatal resuscitation should be part of medical school curriculums. We aimed to evaluate medical school graduates' knowledge of neonatal resuscitation. DESIGN AND SETTING: Cross-sectional study on the performance of candidates sitting a medical residency exam at Hospital das Clínicas, Faculdade de Medicina de Ribeirão Preto, Universidade de São Paulo, in 2004. METHODS: There were two questions on neonatal resuscitation. One question in the theory test aimed at evaluating basic knowledge on the initial approach towards newly born infants. The question in the practical exam was designed to evaluate the candidate's ability to perform the initial steps of resuscitation and to establish bag-mask ventilation. RESULTS: Out of 642 candidates from 74 medical schools, 151 (23.5%) answered the theory question correctly. Significantly more physicians from public medical schools in the State of São Paulo answered correctly than did those from other schools in Brazil (52.5% versus 9.2%; p < 0.05). A total of 436 candidates did the practical exam. The grades among graduates from medical schools belonging to the State of São Paulo were significantly higher than among those from other schools (5.9 ± 2.6 versus 4.1 ± 2.1; p < 0.001). The grades for the practical question among candidates who had answered the theory question correctly were significantly higher than those obtained by candidates who had given wrong answers (p < 0.05). CONCLUSION: Medical school graduates' knowledge of neonate resuscitation in the delivery room is quite precarious. Emphasis on neonatal resuscitation training is urgently needed in medical schools.

BACKGROUND: Physical activity is one of the most important factors that affect human health; it reduces the chances of hypertension, coronary heart disease, stroke, diabetes, breast and colon cancer, and depression.OBJECTIVES: The objectives of this study were to measure prevalence of physical activity and to determine the factors affecting the level of physical activity among medical student in Jazan University.METHODS: A cross-sectional study was conducted among the students of medical colleges of Jazan University. A random sample of 419 was determined using most recent physical activity prevalence. A validated self-administered questionnaire was used for data collection.RESULTS: There is a high prevalence of inactivity among study participants (88.1%). Females (91.7%) were more significantly (p value=0.013) inactive than males (83.8%). The most influential barrier perceived by participants is (heavy) academic work as well as lack of places for physical activity; the latter factor being more effective in hindering female students' physical activity.CONCLUSION: Results revealed that the inactivity rate was very high among medical students. The results of this study call for a well-planned intervention at the university level for improving the level of physical activity among university students.
