This paper investigated the relationship among building characteristics, plant layout, landscaping and student academic performance in Kebbi State secondary schools, Nigeria. The objectives were to ascertain the characteristics of school plant and if there is any relationship between school plant and student academic performance. The study adopted a descriptive correlational design conducted ex- post facto. Purposive and simple random sampling techniques were used to select 82 boarding schools and 360 teachers out of 1,613. A validated West African Examination Council Results Format; Observation Inventory; and Questionnaire with Cronbach alpha reliability coefficients of 0.83, 0.85 and 0.76 respectively were used to collect data. Rating scales, frequencies, percentages, Analysis of Variance and Multiple Regression analysis at 0.05 alpha level were used in the analysis. It was found that school buildings characteristics, plant layout and landscaping were rated low but were significantly, and highly corelated to student academic performance. It was recommended that school buildings, plant layout and landscaping should be improved to enhance student academic performance

This research analyzes the Physical Education students’ degree of academic performance with the incorporation of active methodologies, specifically the flipped classroom mixed learning, restricted to evaluation periods in the months of June and September. The study focuses on whether there are significant differences in this variable through the scores obtained. Through a simple random sampling, 131 students participated in this empiric-analytic research, using an ex-post-facto study with a retrospective design with quasi control group. A robust test of averages comparison, multiple linear regressions and an evaluation of the relative importance of predictors is conducted. The results show how flipped classroom methodology linearly and positively influences academic performance and correlationally motivation and support. As main conclusion, in a hybrid and digitalized learning context, the value of the consideration of active methodologies (flipped classroom) based on emerging pedagogies, allows improving students’ achievement and competence development, providing critical, significant, ubiquitous, transformational and especially motivating experiences.

This work intends to investigate and propose a model that can be used by students, parents, teachers and education policy makers to understand and predict high school student academic performance based on pre-defined factors identified as capable of impacting students’ academic performance. This study uses ex post facto research design. An instrument measuring students’ academic performance has been used to collect data from the management students and R-Code programming language was used to analyse the data collected and there was a positive and statistically significant impact of learning facilities, age, romance and proper guidance from parent on student performance.

The study aims to evaluating the impact of guidance and counseling services on the academic performance of students in some selected secondary schools in Sokoto metropolis. Causal-comparative (Ex-post facto) research design was adopted for this study. This study involves a total of 200 subjects comprising 5 principals, 25 class teachers, 10 teacher counselors, and 160 students from the five selected schools. Data were collected using the four sets of questionnaires. Data analysis was done using descriptive and inferential statistics. The finding revealed that eighty percent (80%) of the students responded that their academic performance was changed after receiving counseling services. Seventy-two percent (72%) of the class teachers perceived the level of students’ academic performance after counseling as good, while 20% perceived it very good and 8% rated it bad. Guidance and counseling services have positively influenced the academic performance of the students and should be strengthened to improve the students’ performance in national examinations.

Poor quality of academic performance is an issue of concern to members of the society. This deplorable situation is attributed to many factors such as lack of parental and community involvement. This study, therefore, explored the relatedness of parental and community involvement to academic performance in senior secondary schools. To achieve the purpose of the study two research questions were raised. A descriptive survey research design of ex-post facto type was adopted for the study. The sample consisted of 200 senior secondary school students who were selected by stratified random sampling method. Parental and community involvement questionnaire and academic performance test were used for data collection. Data obtained were analysed using multiple regression. Results shows that parental and community involvement in school matters are predictors of academic performance. Hence, Schools and government should focus not only on parental involvement, but also on establishing strong partnerships and relationships with parents and communities.

The purpose of this study was to determine the validity of KCPE as a predictor of KCSE scores among public secondary school students in Kisii central Sub-county, Kenya. This study was guided by a conceptual framework where KCPE was the independent variable and KCSE the dependent variable. It adopted Correlational and Ex-post-facto research designs. The study population was 3,897 KCSE candidates from 55 public secondary schools. Stratified random sampling based on school type and size was used to select 16 public secondary schools for the study. Saturated sampling was employed to include all KCSE candidates whose KCPE marks were available in each sampled school, yielding a sample of 1,391 students. Data used included 2006 KCPE scores and 2010 KCSE scores of the same students under study. Data was collected using a researcher made pro forma. It was analyzed quantitatively using correlations and regression analyses. Results showed a strong positive Pearson’s correlation coefficient (r=0.693; n=1391; p < 0.05) between KCPE and KCSE scores. It recommended that; KCPE should continue to be used as selection tool for secondary school admission and school evaluation using KCSE examination scores should be based on students’ past KCPE scores.

AbstractEvidence from literature shows that deviant behavior is on high side among undergraduates in Nigeria whereas some certain psychosocial factors causing this phenomenon have not been fully explored. This study examined whether age, gender, socio-economic status and attitude towards drug abuse determine deviant behavior among the undergraduate students. It adopted ex-post facto design. Simple random sampling technique was used to sample 269 participants. The Prescription Drug Attitudes Questionnaire (PDAQ) and Deviant Behavior Variety Scale (DBVS) were used to gather data from the participants. T-test analysis and multiple regression were used to test the formulated hypotheses. The results revealed that age, monthly allowance and attitude towards drug abuse have significant joint prediction of deviant behavior (R=.358 R2 =.128, F=10.594, p<.05) while only attitude towards drug abuse independently predicted deviant behavior (R=.236, R2 =.056 F = 17.112; p<.01). Also, there was a significant gender difference on deviant behavior [t (293) = 4.196, p<.01], where male respondents scored high significantly (M=4.09, SD=3.44) compared to female respondents (M=2.53, SD=2.31) on deviant behavior. It is therefore recommended that policy makers in educational sector and the governing council of tertiary institutions need to create awareness on the debilitating effects of drugs on students’ behavior, especially among males.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the difference of cardiovascular endurance between secondary school soccer players and handball players. The study adopted ex-post facto design. The subjects were selected among soccer and handball players at one of the secondary schools. A total of 60 subjects were selected, 30 soccer players and 30 handball players. All subjects aged between 13 and 15 years old. The test used to test cardiovascular endurance was 12 minute Cooper Run Test. T-test was used to determine whether there is a significant difference between the cardiovascular endurance of the soccer players and handball players. The results of the study showed that there was no significant difference t(-1.65)=58, P>0.05 between soccer players (M = 2235; SD = 180.44) and handball players (M = 2307.83; SD = 160.19). Although there was no significant difference, the players from both teams still have good cardiovascular endurance fitness.
