Evaluation of various molting methods with perspective of post-molting performance in Japanese quails

The post-molting performance of 360 female Japanese quails was assessed using five molting methods including feed restriction along with supplementation of dietary levels of aluminum sulfate (AlSO4) and zinc oxide (ZnO) with two concentrations of 0.15% and 0.3%. None of the parameters studied were positively influenced by a single molting method. Body weight gain and feed efficiency were positively affected by higher concentration of ZnO while feed consumption was positively influenced by higher concentration of AlSO4. Similarly high feed efficiency was attributed to higher concentrations of both ZnO and AlSO4. On other hand body weight gain and feed efficiency were negatively influenced by 0.15% ZnO while egg production was worst by 0.15% AlSO4. As each of the molting method had different influence on the tested parameters and none of them could apply individually with perspective of better performance therefore the combinational use of molting methods is recommended according to the focused parameter

The purpose of this experiment was to know the effect of dl-methionine supplementation in feed on the body weight gain, feed consumption, and feed efficiency of broilers. The experiment was conducted at the Laboratory of Animal Husbandry Study Program, Agricultural Faculty, University of Timor, Kefamenanu from December 2019 to January 2020. The experiment used 80 fourteen-day broilers. The method used in this research was an experimental method with a completely randomized design (CRD) consisting of 4 treatments and 4 replications. The treatments given were: T0 (control feed), T1 (T0 + 0.30% dl-methionine), T2 (T0 + 0.50% dl-methionine), and T3 (T0 + 0.70% dl-methionine). The variables observed were body weight gain, feed consumption, and feed efficiency. The results of the experiment showed that the treatment significantly affected the body weight gain, feed consumption, and feed efficiency of broilers (P<0.05). It was concluded that commercial feed supplemented with dl-methionine by 0.70% increased the growth performance of broilers.

EFFECT OF FEED RESTRICTION AND DIFFERENT CRUDE FIBER SOURCES ON THE BORILER PERFORMANCE. The research aim was to determine the performance of Lohman strain broiler were given by food restriction of 20 percent and 10 percent levels of crude fiber from different fiber sources originated from coffee peel, rice bran and coconut pulp. This research was carried out in a poultry house at the Faculty of Animal Husbandry, UNSRAT Manado, during 6 weeks using 48 unsex Lohman strain broilers at 21 days old. The research method was using a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) based on factorial pattern (2x4). Each treatment combination was repeated 3 times. Factor A was a feed restriction consisting of feed without restriction (A0) and restriction of 20% feed for 8 days (A1). Factor B was a source of fiber consisting of control (B0);coffee peel (B1); rice bran (B2) and coconut pulp (B3). In this study, the were 8 treatment combinations of A0B0, A0B1, A0B2, A0B3, A1B0, A1B1, A1B2 and A1B3. Application of feed restriction and source of fiber  were applied during days of 21th to day of 28th. The birds were fed commercial feed until 42 days of age. The variables measured were feed consumption, body weight gain and feed conversion. The results showed that the restriction of feed and different fiber sources had a significant effect (P <0.05) on feed consumption, body weight gain and feed conversion. The results of this study can be concluded that the restriction of feed by 20 percent for 8 days with a source of crude fiber originated from coconut pulp in feed gave the best response compared with crude fiber originated from coffee peel and rice bran on the performance of the Lohman strain of broiler.Keywords: Broiler, feed restriction, crude fiber

The experiment was conducted at the livestock production and management unit, faculty of agriculture. MGCGV Chitrakoot – Satna ( M.P.). To complete the research work following steps were followed. Day old 75 broiler chicks (DOC) of same hatch were produced and reared in of Deep litter system. The chicks were weighed, leg banded and distributed randomly into five groups of 15 chicks each as treatment. Chicks of each treatment were further divided into three sub groups of five chicks in each in Randomized Block Design (RBD). Chicks of each sub group were accommodated comfortably in deep letter system providing 1 sq. ft./ chick. Chicks were fed standard starter ration upto 3 weeks age (1 to 21 days) and then broiler finisher ration upto 3-4 weeks (22-28 days). An experiment was conducted with DOC to 75 broilers chicks divided into five groups T0, T1,T2 and T4 which were supplemented with turmeric and Tulsi leaves powder @ 1.0g, 2.0g, 3.0g and 4.0g/kg of broiler ration, respectively. Weekly observations were recorded for live body weight, weekly gain in weight, weekly feed consumption and feed conversion of broiler for four weeks. Based on the results of the experiment, it may be concluded that feed supplementation with turmeric (Curcuma longa) powder influenced the body weight, gain in body weight, feed intake and feed efficiency of broiler chicks. Based on the result of the experiment, it may be concluded that feed supplementation with turmeric + Tulsi leaves powder influenced body weight, gain in body weight, feed intake and feed efficiency of broiler chicks. Based on feed intake and feed efficiency, the best performance of broilers was obtained with feed supplementation of 3g turmeric + 3g Tulsi powder per kg of standard ration (T3), followed by 4g turmeric + 4g Tulsi leaf powder (T4). Treatment T3 was economically superior over all other treatments and control.

Hungarian goose production and gene conservation practices have been a tradition in Hungary for several centuries. The old Hungarian geese can only be effectively maintained if the national programs can identify economic uses of the breed. This study aimed to examine the potential use of the Hungarian landrace goose (HL) either as a purebred or crossbred with the Hungarian Upgraded breed (HU). Crossbred offspring were produced by HL ganders and HU layers, as egg production of HL layers is very low. Reproduction traits (egg production, fertility and hatchability) of parent stocks, body weight gain, feed consumption and slaughter values (slaughter loss, breast and thigh weight and proportions) and of offspring were measured. The results showed that fertility in the crossbred geese was insignificant compared to the fertility of HL purebreds, while hatchability of crossbreds was higher than that of purebred HL or HU. HL offspring had significantly lower bodyweight and weight gain, and a higher feed conversion rate than HU. The proportion of valuable meat parts (breast and thigh) was the highest in HU while weight in slaughter loss was also the highest in HU. In terms of body weight, feed conversion rate and slaughter properties, crossbred offspring showed intermediate  inheritance. HL is recommended for crossbreeding with HU breeds and their offspring should be reared under free-range keeping conditions.

The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of l-lysine supplementation in feed on the body weight gain, feed consumption, and feed efficiency of broilers. The experiment was conducted at the Laboratory of Animal Husbandry Study Program, Agriculture Faculty, University of Timor, Kefamenanu from December 2019 to January 2020. This study used 80 day-old chicks (DOC) broilers. The method used is a Completely Randomized Design with four treatments and four replications. The treatments give were: T0 (control feed), T1 (control feed + 0.35% l-lysine), T2 (control feed + 0.70% l-lysine), T3 (control feed + 1.00% l -lysine). Data were processed using Variance Analysis, and Duncan test. The results of the statistical analysis showed that the supplementation of l-lysine in the feed had a significant effect on weight gain, feed consumption, and feed efficiency (P<0.05). It was concluded that supplementation of 0.70% l-lysine HCl in feed gave optimum results to weight gain, feed consumption, and feed efficiency of broilers.

SUMMARYTwo strains of commercial layers, 42 weeks old, were fed ad libitum, 85 and 70% of ad libitum for five 28-day periods to study the effects of feed restriction on body weight, carcass characteristics, laying performance and mortality. There were highly significant strain effects on all traits (P < 0·01) except dressing percentage. Period differences were also observed for egg production, egg weight and feed efficiency. In addition, in all cases the relationship between period and these traits was non-linear and was affected by strain or treatment.Feed restriction had significant effects (P < 0·01) on all traits except dressing percentage and mortality. Feed restriction to 70% of ad libitum reduced egg production, egg weight, body weight and feed consumption and improved feed efficiency. However, in most cases there was no difference between ad libitum feeding and 15% feed restriction.Strain × treatment interaction had significant effects on egg production and feed efficiency.

Initial body weight may affect animal performance. This study investigated the effect of divergent selection based on body weight and betaine supplementation on performance of quails in the tropical environment. In total, 900 7-day-old female Japanese quails were divided into 30 cages of 30 birds in a 3×2 factorial design. The first factor was body weight (Random, High, and Low), and the second factor was betaine supplementation (0% and 0.14%), resulting in 6 treatments. Performance data were collected for 2 periods of 28 days during the laying phase. The variables observed included feed consumption, egg production, egg weight, and feed conversion. The data were analyzed using analysis of variance and continued with Duncan’s Test for significant results. The results showed that there was no interaction between body weight and betaine supplementation on quails’ performance. Random body weight produced more eggs and the highest feed efficiency than Low body weight (P<0.05), although the result did not differ from High body weight. Betaine supplementation enhanced egg weight (P<0.05) than the non-supplemented group but did not affect other variables. It is concluded that Random and High weight and betaine supplementation can be applied to optimize the performance of quails in a tropical environment.

The purpose of this research is to know the increase of body weight, feed consumption, feed efficiency and conversion of Bali cattle feed given fermented straw as substitution of Elephant Grass. The method used in this Experimental study Method with Randomized Block Design with four treatments and three replications. P2: Elephant Grass 100% (control) P1: Elephant Grass 75% + 25% fermented straw, P2 treatment: Elephant Grass 50% + 50% fermentation straw and P3 Treatment: 25% Grass + Finger straw 75 %. The observed changes were weight gain (kg/day), feed consumption (kg/day), feed efficiency and feed conversion in Bali cattle. The data obtained were analyzed in various ways with Duncan. The result of this research showed that by giving substitution of fermented straw to determine the performance of bovine cow have a real effect (P ≤.05) to the value of body weight gain, feed consumption, feed conversion and efficiency of feed. It shows that with the difference of feeding substitution of fermented straw can give the real effect on the increase of body weight of Bali cattle with feeding of forage grass 50% elephant + 50% fermented straw.

Two trials were conducted to determine feed color effects on broiler performance. A completely randomized design was used. Trial 1 included four treatments: control (complete broiler starter diet), red, green, and blue; and Trial 2 included four treatments: control, orange, yellow, and purple. Each trial had 4 treatments with 4 replicates (60 birds/treatment) fed to 240 male Cobb 500 broilers during a 21 d grow out. Data were analyzed using the GLM procedure. In Trial 1, there were no treatment effects on average body weight, body weight gain, and feed consumption (p > 0.05). Adjusted feed conversion for control (1.23) was less than red (1.27; p = 0.001) and green (1.26; p = 0.009), with blue (1.25; p = 0.056) tending to be different during the experimental period. In Trial 2, there were no treatment effects on average body weight, feed consumption, and adjusted feed conversion during this study (p > 0.05). Body weight gain between d 1 to 14 for purple (490.78 g/bird) was more than orange (467 g/bird; p = 0.013) and yellow (461 g/bird; p= 0.004), with control (474 g/bird; p = 0.052) tending to be different. Results indicate that these feed colors had some, albeit limited, influence on broiler performance parameters.

Abstract The aim of the study was to evaluate prediction methods, validation approaches and pseudo-phenotypes for the prediction of the genomic breeding values of feed efficiency related traits in Nellore cattle. It used the phenotypic and genotypic information of 4,329 and 3,594 animals, respectively, which were tested for residual feed intake (RFI), dry matter intake (DMI), feed efficiency (FE), feed conversion ratio (FCR), residual body weight gain (RG), and residual intake and body weight gain (RIG). Six prediction methods were used: ssGBLUP, BayesA, BayesB, BayesCπ, BLASSO, and BayesR. Three validation approaches were used: 1) random: where the data was randomly divided into ten subsets and the validation was done in each subset at a time; 2) age: the division into the training (2010 to 2016) and validation population (2017) were based on the year of birth; 3) genetic breeding value (EBV) accuracy: the data was split in the training population being animals with accuracy above 0.45; and validation population those below 0.45. We checked the accuracy and bias of genomic value (GEBV). The results showed that the GEBV accuracy was the highest when the prediction is obtained with ssGBLUP (0.05 to 0.31) (Figure 1). The low heritability obtained, mainly for FE (0.07 ± 0.03) and FCR (0.09 ± 0.03), limited the GEBVs accuracy, which ranged from low to moderate. The regression coefficient estimates were close to 1, and similar between the prediction methods, validation approaches, and pseudo-phenotypes. The cross-validation presented the most accurate predictions ranging from 0.07 to 0.037. The prediction accuracy was higher for phenotype adjusted for fixed effects than for EBV and EBV deregressed (30.0 and 34.3%, respectively). Genomic prediction can provide a reliable estimate of genomic breeding values for RFI, DMI, RG and RGI, as to even say that those traits may have higher genetic gain than FE and FCR.
