Efficacy of Magnetic Water and Methanol on Agronomic Traits of Soybean (Glycine max L.)

Background: The major part of the edible oil used in Iran is supplied through imports. It is important to increase the yield of oilseed crops, especially soybeans, in non-chemical and environmentally friendly ways, along with its easy availability and low cost. The use of magnetic water as a new method, increases the yield of plants by improving solubility and access the nutrients. On the other hand, in recent years, methanol spraying as a source of carbon dioxide, which increases the concentration of this gas around the plant, enhancing the photosynthesis and plant yield. This study was conducted to study the efficacy of different intensities of magnetic water and various concentrations of methanol foliar application on agronomic traits of soybean. Methods: This experiment was carried out as split plot in a randomized complete block design with 3 replications during two consecutive years 2016-17. The main plot was irrigated with magnetic water in 4 intensity (0: control, 4, 8, 12mTesla) and a subplot was methanol spraying in 4 volumetric percentage (distilled water: control, 10, 20 and 30% v/v). Result: Photosynthetic pigments viz. (Chlorophyll a, b, carotenoid), yield attributes, seed yield, biological yield, seed protein and soybean economics were significantly affected by the magnetic water and methanol spraying. Seed yield and net return, as the most important traits increased by magnetic irrigated with 8 and 12mTesla intensities, compared to control, by 70.05-72.19% and 122.37-126.05%, respectively. Furthermore the maximum biological, stover yields and protein obtained by 8mTesla magnetic irrigation, compared to control, it showed 59.54, 54.9 and 10.07% superiority, respectively. Also, methanol foliar application at 20% concentration increased seed yield, biological yield, seed protein and net return by 19.01, 13.73, 5.24 and 26.43%, respectively.

Aim: To study the amelioration of zinc deficiency in blackgram (Vigna mungo L.) through soil applied zinc in Typic Haplustepts soil of Rajasthan. Methodology: A two year field experiment was undertaken during Kharif 2016 and 2017 at Instructional Farm (Agronomy), Rajasthan College of Agriculture, Udaipur, Rajasthan. The treatments comprised application of Zn to soil @ 3 kg Zn ha-1, 4 kg Zn ha-1, 5 kg Zn ha-1 and 6 kg Zn ha-1. The experiment was laid out in a randomized block design with four replications. Results: Application of zinc significantly (P=0.05) increased the number of nodules per plant, number of pods per plant, number of seeds per pod, seed yield, haulm yield, biological yield, nutrient (N, P, K & Zn) content and uptake, protein content, net return and B:C ratio in blackgram. Soil application of Zn@5 kg ha-1 significantly increased seed yield, haulm yield and biological yield by 72.53, 50.08 and 57.68 per cent over the control in pooled analysis, respectively. However, the effect of application of Zn@5 kg ha-1 on yield attributes, yield, nutrient content, uptake, quality and economics of blackgram was found statistically at par with the application of 6 kg Zn ha-1. Interpretation: The application of Zn@ 5 kg ha-1 along with the recommended dose of fertilizer (NPK) resulted in significantly (P=0.05) higher productivity, nutrient uptake, quality and profitability of blackgram under Typic Haplustepts soil of Rajasthan.

An experiment was conducted to study the effect of micronutrients on the growth and yield performance of chickpea. The experiment was consisted using two factors- variety and treatments. Two local cultivars viz. BARI Chola-5 and BARI Chola-9 and five treatments e.g. T0 = control, T1 = 2 kg B/ha, T2 = 2 kg Mo/ha, T3= seed priming with Mo (1g/l water), T4 = foliar spray of B (0.5 g/l water) + seed priming with Mo (1g/l water), and T5 = 2 kg B/ha + seed priming with Mo (1g/l water) were considered for this study. A randomized complete block design (RCBD) was adopted with three replications. Significant variation was observed between the varieties and here the BARI Chola-9 produced the higher seed yield (2.47 ton/ ha). Treatment showed significant effect on the yield attributes and yield of chickpea. The highest plant height, number of branches/ plant, number of pods/ plant, nodule/ plant, number of effective pod/ plant, length of the pod, 1000-grain weight, seed yield, straw yield, biological yield was obtained from T4. The highest seed yield (2.68 ton/ ha) was recorded from BARI Chola-9 with foliar spray of boron and seed priming with Mo. The results indicated that foliar spray of B and seed priming with molybdenum can be beneficial in improving growth and yield of chickpea variety BARI Chola-9. J. Seven mutants along with the mother variety were evaluated following randomized complete block design with four replicates at four rapeseed growing areas of Bangladesh during 2013-2014 to observe their performances regarding seed yield and yield attributes, and to select promising mutants having higher seed yield with short maturity period. Analysis of variance showed highly significant variations among the mutants and the check for most of the characters studied in individual location and combined over locations. The mutant RM-01-07 required the shortest maturity period except Rangpur and the mother variety Binasarisha-4 required the longest. At Mymensingh and Rangpur, mutant RM-02-07 produced the tallest plant. Both at Mymensingh and Magura, RM-01-07 produced the highest number of siliquae plant-1 and the mother variety produced the lowest siliquae plant-1. At Ishurdi, RM-10-07 produced the highest number siliquae followed by RM-03-07. Combined means over locations showed that the six mutants matured earlier except the mutant RM-03-07 and most of the mutants produced higher number of branches plant-1 compared to the mother variety. Results over different locations also showed that the three mutants RM-01-07, RM- 10-07 and RM-04-07 produced significantly higher seed yield (1912, 1846 and 1862 kg/ha, respectively) which was 15.1, 12.1 and 11.1% higher than the mother variety, Binasarisha-4 with seed yield of 1661 kg/ha. These three mutants had also the higher number of siliquae than the mother variety. This suggests that gamma rays irradiation can be fruitfully applied to develop mutants with higher seed yield and other improved agronomic traits in oleiferous Brassica.J. Bangladesh Agril. Abstract The global demand for crop production is rapidly growing due to the continued rise in world population. Crop productivity varies generally with soil nutrient profile and climate. The optimal use of fertilizers might help to attain higher crop yield in canola. To circumvent nutrient imbalance issues in soil, two separate field trials were conducted to determine the best source of nitrogen (ammonium sulfate/ammonium nitrate), foliar application of gibberellic acid (GA3) and potassium (K) for the canola yield and yield attributes for four consecutive years (2014 to 2018). Both experiments were carried out in randomized complete block design (RCBD) with three replicates. The nitrogen source in the form of ammonium sulfate (0, 10, 20 and 30 kg/ha) and ammonium nitrate (0, 50, 75 and 100 kg/ha) was applied in the rhizosphere. In another experiment, the canola crop was sprayed with four level of gibberellic acid (GA3; 0, 10, 15, 30g/ha) and potassium (K; 0, 2.5, 3.5, 6g/ha) separately or in combination by using hydraulic spryer. The analysis showed that fertilization with nitrogen in the form of ammonium nitrate (100 kg/ha) and ammonium sulfate (30 kg/ha) had a positive effect on the plant height, number of branches, fruiting zone, seed yield per plant, seed yield per hectare of canola except oil percentage. Moreover, canola plants displayed a significant improvement on all studied features with high dosses of GA3 (30 g/ha) and K (6 g/ha) individualy and in combined form. In a nutshell, compared to both source of nitrogen, ammonium nitrate was more efficient and readily available source of nitrogen. Gibbrellic acid being a natural growth elicitor and potassium as a micronutrient serve as potential source to improve yield and to mange nutrient profile of canola.

The experiment was conducted at the Agronomy Field Laboratory, Bangladesh Agricultural University to observe the effect of sowing methods and weeding regimes on the yield of sesame. The experiment comprised of two factors. Two methods of sowing i.e., broadcasting and line sowing (S2), and six weeding regimes- control (T0), weed free (T1), one hand weeding at 15 DAS (T2), two hand weedings at 15 and 30 DAS (T3), three hand weedings at 15, 30 and 45 DAS (T4) and application of Panida (Pendimethalin) herbicide (T5) at 3 DAS. The experiment was laid out in a randomized complete block design (RCBD) with three replications. Almost all the yield characters of sesame were affected significantly due to sowing methods, weeding regime and their interaction. Result showed that the l ine sowing showed better performance regarding plant height (100.40 cm), number of branches (4.983) plant–1, number of capsules plant–1 (47.82), number of seeds capsule–1 (69.66), 1000–seed weight (2.96 g), seed yield (956.90 kg ha–1), stover yield (2167.0 kg ha–1), biological yield (3123.00 kg ha–1) and harvest index (31.45%) than that of broadcasting method. Also weed free treatment had the highest plant height (101.90 cm), highest number of branches (5.00) plant-1, highest capsule (47.08) plant–1, heaviest 1000–seed weight (3.28 g), highest number of seeds capsule–1 (76.22), highest seed yield (974.30 kg ha–1), stover yield (2947.0 kg ha–1) and biological yield (3922.0 kg ha–1) as compared to other treatments while unweeded plot had least significant effect among the whole yield and yield attributes of sesame. In case of interactions, both weed free treatment and herbicidal effect with line sowing methods produced the highest plant height, number of branches and capsules plant–1, seeds capsule–1, seed yield, stover yield and biological yield (109.80 cm, 5.967, 56.57, 81.53, 1054.0 kg ha–1, 3139.0 kg ha–1 and 4193.0 kg ha–1, respectively) as compared to other interaction combinations. The results of the study reveal that the weed free treatment along with line sowing would be the proper technique for higher production of sesame. But line sowing along with application of Panida herbicide would be the best combination for obtaining higher yield of sesame since it is not feasible for the farmers to keep their field weed free throughout all the growing periods. Environmental factors, especially nutrients, can influence the production of medicinal plants. Thus, the present study assessed the response of some morphological and physiological characteristics of fennel ecotypes to the foliar application (magnetic water, organic and chemical fertilizers). The study was a factorial experiment based on the randomized complete block design, with three replications and 25 treatments at the research farm of the Agricultural and Natural Resources Research and Education Center of West Azerbaijan province, Iran, in the spring and summer of two consecutive years, 2014–2015 and 2015–2016. The first factor was assigned to fennel landraces (Gaziantep, Hamedan, Urmia, Yazd, and Shiraz) and the second factor to the foliar application (nitrogen nano-fertilizer, magnetic water, urea, chicken manure, and the control). Results showed that interaction of fertilizer treatment and landrace increased fresh and dry weight, biological yield, and seed yield significantly. In the first year, the highest fresh weight (166 g) and dry weight (35.5 g) were observed in the Gaziantep landrace fertilized with chicken manure. The highest anethole and fenchone contents (81.75% and 7.92%, respectively) were observed in the landraces treated with chicken manure. Based on the percentages, the Urmia landrace had the highest anethole percentage (83.2%), and the Shiraz landrace had the lowest one (77.5%). The highest fenchone contents (9.61%) and the lowest (2.18%) were observed in the Yazd and Urmia landraces. Due to the positive effect of application of chicken manure on improving the studied traits of fennel, it is recommended to include chicken manure inputs to enhance the efficiency of crops, reduce environmental pollution, and move toward sustainable agriculture.

A field experiment was conducted during rabi season of 2012-13 which consisted of two spacing viz., 30 cm x10 cm (S1), 22 cm x 10 cm (S2) and two fertilizer levels viz., F1- 40:40:20 kg NPK per ha, F2- 50:50:25 kg NPK per ha and three genotypes viz., Ajmer Fenugreek-1 (V1), Ajmer Fenugreek-3 (V2) and Ajmer Fenugreek-4 (V3). The experiment was laid out in factorial randomized block design with three replications. Result revealed that significantly higher seed yield (2437.4 kg ha-1), straw yield (3356.8 kg ha-1), biological yield (5794.2 ha-1), net return (Rs.57358 ha-1) and BCR (2.5) were recorded with sowing at a spacing of 22 cm x 10 cm as compared to 30 cm x 10 cm spacing but numbers of pods per plant (37.0), seed yield per plant (43.5 g), test weight (16.6 g) and harvest index (41.80) were higher in 30 cm x 10 cm spacing. Irrespective of spacing and genotypes, the application of 125 percent RDF ( NPK 50:50:25) recorded significantly more pods (40.7) per plant, seed yield (41.9 g) per plant, seed yield (2249.1 kgha-1), straw yield (3094.2 kgha-1), biological yield (5343.2 kgha-1), 1000 seed weight (16.4 g), harvest index (42.07), net return (Rs.51091.0 ha-1) and BCR (2.3) as compared to 100 percent RDF(NPK 40:20:20). Significantly higher number of pods (42.9/pod), seed yield (45.9 g/plant), seed yield (2270.7 kgha-1), straw yield (3066.8 kgha-1), biological yield (5337.4 kgha-1), net return (Rs.51927.0 ha-1) and BCR (2.3) were recorded with AFg-4. Thus, it is inferred that sowing at 22 cm x 10 cm spacing with application of 125 per cent of recommended dose of fertilizer is better for realizing higher yield, net return and BCR.

Investigating the effect of urea and nano-nitrogen fertigation and foliar application of nano B and Mo on growth and yield of potato Solanum tuberosum L. [Rivera-A]. The study was conducted in a private farm located in the Al-Taleah area - Babylon governorate. The experiment consisted of (12) treatments consisting of separated fertigation of nano nitrogen (25% N) and urea (46% N), single treatments of leaf spraying of nano Mo (5%), Nano B (9%), nano-binary combinations (Mo+B) and (U+ Nano Mo), (U+Nano B), Nano (N+Mo), Nano (N+B), and tricombination treatments of (U+Mo+B), Nano (N+Mo+B) additional to the control treatment. Randomize Complete Block Design (RCBD) and one way simple experiment with three replicates. Fertilizers were applied at levels of 40 liters h-1 of Nano-N fertilizer (25% N) and 300 kg h-1 urea fertilizer (46% N). They were sprayed early in the morning after (40) days after planting four times. Two weeks is the period between an application and another according to the recommendation of (1) kg  h-1 nano-fertilizer of (B) and (500) g h-1 of  Mo. Fertilizers were injected and sprayed at (10, 20, 30 and 40)% of the total amount of the fertilizer were applied as the first, second, third and fourth applications, respectively. Some growth traits were tested including the chlorophyll content in the leaves, the total dry vegetative yild, the soft tubers yield, and the biological yield, proteins and ascorbic acid yield compared to the control (spray water only). The results of the Duncan test showed a significant increase in most of the studied traits of nano-tricombination (N+Mo+B) in the fresh tubers yield,  dry vegetative yield  , the biological yield, starch yield ,the total protein and ascorbic yield (37.53, 1.799, 8.138,4.152 , 481.3and 653.8 meg ha-1) respectively .compare to control (21.58 , 0.890, 4.463  ,2.323 , 366.1 and 215.5 meg ha-1) respectively.

Environmental contamination and the excessive use of inorganic fertilizers resulting in stagnant yields of field crops which necessitate the utilization of combined fertilization approach under changing climatic conditions. Current study was aimed to clarify the influence of several fertilizer sources (chemical, organic, organomineral fertilizers) on yield and quality of coriander (Coriandrum sativum L.). The results revealed that the fertilizer sources significantly affected the yield of coriander cultivars. The absence of “Year x Variety x Fertilizer Type” interactions for any of the noted parameters signaled that the detected “Variety x Fertilizer Type” interactions were constant regardless of the year factor. The recorded values of traits according to fertilizer sources different for the plant height from 61.85 to 69.67 cm, number of branches from 5.98 to 7.71 (piece/plant), number of umbels per the main umbel from 5.62 to 7.18 pieces, seed yield from 1.06 to 1.66 t/ha, the biological yield from 4.29 to 5.70 t ha−1, harvest index from 25.29 to 29.41%, essential oil ratio from 0.29 to 0.33%, and essential oil yield from 3.1 to 5.6 L ha−1. Erbaa variety was observed to be superior over the rest of the varieties producing the maximum values of 6.5 L ha−1 of essential oil, 0.36% essential oil content, 30.9% harvest index, 1.81 t/ha seed yield, and 5.9 t ha−1 biological yield with the treatment of chemical fertilizers.

The study was conducted to determine effects of organic and inorganic fertilization on the yield and some yield components in lentil cultivars in 2014-15 growing seasons in Van. The experiment was laid out in a factorial randomised block design with three replications. The study was conducted to determine effects of different fertilizer sources (Control, DAP, Chicken manure and sheep manure) on the yield and some yield components in two lentil cultivars (Özbek and Kafkas). In the study were investigated the plant height, first pod height, branch number per plant, pod and seed number per plant, seed number per pod, biological yield, seed yield per unit, harvest index, 1000-seed weight and protein ratio in seed. The highest seed yield was obtained from chicken manure application of Özbek cultivar with 157.6 kg da-1.
