This study analyses the effectiveness of ethnobotanic activities on learning performance of pre-service teachers about plants’ classification. The research design was a quasi-experimental model. The results of the study revealed that the experimental group in which ethnobotanical activities were carried out was more successful for answers given to the interview form. On the other hand, there was no difference between the groups in multiple-choice questions. In other words, ethnobotanical practices have developed the subjective views of the students so they could have more comprehensive knowledge of the plants. These results suggest that ethnobotanic activities encourage pre-service teachers to think and talk through how to solve more open-ended problems that require making connections between analytical and practical components. This study also suggests the need to rethink how we teach botany to pre-service teachers, and how to help them learn the content better and establish more accurate conceptions of the biology content. Keywords: Ethnobotanic activities, learning performance, pre-service teachers.

AbstractThere is nearly a century of educational research that has demonstrated that three option multiple-choice questions (MCQs) are as valid and reliable as four or five option, yet this format continues to be underutilized in educational institutions. This replication study was a quasi-experimental between groups research design conducted at three Canadian schools of nursing to examine the psychometric properties of three option MCQs when compared to the more traditional four option questions. Data analysis revealed that there were no statistically significant differences in the item discrimination, difficulty or mean examination scores when MCQs were administered with three versus four option answer choices.

AbstractObjective:The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of acupressure applied to the pericardium 6 (P6 or neiguan) acupuncture point on chemotherapy-induced nausea, vomiting, and anxiety in patients with breast cancer.Method:The study was conducted using a quasi-experimental model with a control group. It included a total of 64 patients with stages 1–3 breast cancer who received cycle two and more advanced chemotherapy in an ambulatory chemotherapy unit. There were 32 patients in the experimental group and 32 patients in the control group. Acupressure was applied to the P6 acupuncture point of patients in the experimental group with the help of a wristband. A Patient Information Form, the Beck Anxiety Inventory, and the Index of Nausea, Vomiting and Retching were employed to collect the data. Results:It was determined that the mean nausea, vomiting, and retching scores, the total (experience, occurrence, and distress) scores, and the mean anxiety scores for patients to whom acupressure was applied at the P6 acupuncture point were statistically significantly lower compared with the scores of patients in the control group.Significance of Results:The efficacy of applying acupressure was demonstrated. We determined that applying acupressure at the P6 point is effective in decreasing chemotherapy-induced nausea, vomiting, and anxiety in patients with breast cancer. Further research with more subjects is needed.

Criticisms on multiple choice questions (MCQs) include the possibility of students answering MCQs correctly by guessing, and MCQs generally are said to fall short in cultivating independent learning skills, such as taking charge of their learning goals. Countering these common concerns, this research used online MCQ exercises with multiple attempts to investigate the experiences that drove students to become self-directed learners. In this research, 60 students completed two sets of online MCQ exercises with multiple attempts outside of classroom time for six weeks consecutively. Both focus group interviews and an online survey were conducted to investigate the experiences of using online MCQ exercise with multiple attempts in relation to the development of self-directed learning (SDL). The findings of the study showed that the criticisms may be unfounded. Data leads to the conclusion that the majority of the students do not just try to guess at the correct answers. Rather, many of them attempted the online MCQ exercises more than once to improve themselves indicating that they were interested in self-learning. Students also reported that they utilised search and inquiry skills that clearly showed motivated initiatives to plan how to overcome their weaknesses by independently looking for relevant resources, determine their own learning goals, and evaluate their own learning performance as a firm indicator of SDL development. Based on the findings, this study is able to refute the claim that MCQs are unable to cultivate independent learning skills.

The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of the application of the smart egg puzzle game on the social behavior of early childhood. This research was conducted in TK intan Berlian Lamongan with a total sample of 35 children. This study uses a quantitative approach. The research design in this study uses a quasi-experimental research design, where this design has a control group but does not fully function to control external variables that affect the implementation of the experiment. In this study, a nonequivalent control group design was used, where the experimental group and the control group were not chosen randomly. The indicators of this research are being cooperative, expressing emotions according to existing conditions and sharing with others. The results showed that the smart egg puzzle game had a significant effect on understanding the concept of geometry and social behavior in children aged 5-6 years at Intan Berlian Kindergarten. The t-test proves that the value of sig. Levene's Test for Equality of Variances is 0.221, greater than 0.05, it means that H0 is rejected and Ha is accepted. Thus it can be concluded that there is a significant difference between the experimental group and the control group

Background: Coupled with the expansion of simulation has been the development and growth of medical simulation fellowships. These non-accredited fellowships do not have a standardized curriculum and there are currently no studies investigating the simulation fellowship experience. The purpose of this study was to explore the simulation fellowship experience of graduates throughout North America and how it prepared them for their post-fellowship career. Methods: A web-based survey was developed by Emergency Medicine attending physicians both of whom completed one-year fellowships in medical simulation. Prior to distribution, the survey was reviewed and tested by three simulation fellowship graduates and a PhD researcher. Feedback was integrated into the survey prior to distribution. The survey consisted of a maximum of 29 multiple choice questions including two step-logic questions and two open response questions. The survey was distributed to simulation fellowship directors in multiple disciplines and the directors were asked to forward the survey to graduates. Additionally, the Society for Academic Emergency Medicine Simulation Academy list-serve was utilized for distribution of the survey. Results: The survey had 35 responses. The majority of respondents completed fellowship within the last two years (66%, 23/35). Fellowship graduates strongly agreed or agreed that their fellowship adequately prepared them for their post-fellowship simulation career (88%). Graduates report that research design/reporting (53%) and administration (18%) were areas of their fellowship curriculum that needed the most improvement. Conclusion: The majority of simulation fellowship graduates agreed that their fellowship experience adequately prepared them for their post-fellowship simulation career. Graduates also felt that training in research and administration are areas that could be improved.

The present study was designed to specifically compare two methods of presenting the alphabet in Iranian guidance schools (an equivalent for middle school in other countries), namely pre-instruction and while-instruction to see if any of them is more successful in learners' alphabet learning. To this end, a quasi-experimental research design with two experimental groups including a pre-test and a post-test was set.The existing four intact classes were randomly assigned as two groups of pre-instruction(N=47)and while-instruction (N=43) experimental groups. Both groups followed alphabet learning process for six months. One of the researcherswas the teacher of the two groups and taught the alphabet through pre-instruction presentation to the first experimental group, andthrough while-instruction to the second experimental group. By accomplishing the treatment, the post-test was given to both groups. The results of independet-samples t-test indicated that while-instruction method for teaching alphaebt was much more beneficial than pre-instruciton. Language teachers can benefit from this finding in their elementary classes.
