AbstractRolling stock connection systems are key to running longer and heavier trains as they provide both the connections of vehicles and the damping, providing the longitudinal suspension of the train. This paper focuses on the evolution of both connection and stiffness damping systems. Focus is on freight rolling stock, but passenger draw gears are also examined. It was found that connection systems have evolved from the buff and chain system used in the pioneer railways of the 1800s to the modern auto-coupler connection systems that are in-service worldwide today. Refined versions of the buff and chain coupling are, however, still in use in the EU, UK, South America and India. A wide range of auto-coupler systems are currently utilised, but the AAR coupler (Janney coupler) remains the most popular. A further variation that persists is the SA3 coupler (improved Wilson coupler) which is an alternative auto-coupler design used mainly throughout the former Soviet Union. Restricting the review to auto-coupler systems allowed the paper to focus on draft gears which revealed polymer, polymer-friction, steel spring-friction, hydraulic draft gears and sliding sill cushioning systems. Along with the single compressive draft gear units balanced and floating plate configurations are also presented. Typical draft gear acceptance standards are presented along with modelling that was included to aid in presentation of the functional characteristics of draft gears.

A brief history of the development of high-speed passenger traffic in the countries of the world is shown, it is shown that the length of high-speed highways (SMM) in the world is 44 thousand km. Despite the fact that Ukraine is not included in the list of 28 countries with the SMM, a two-system electric train ECR1 "Tarpan" was created on the basis of the PUBLIC JOINT STOCK COMPANY "KRYUKOVSKY RAILWAY CAR BUILDING WORKS" (PJSC "KVBZ") for the speed of movement of more than 200 km / h. A description of the electric train and the peculiarities of the brake system are given. It is shown that the brake system corresponds to world counterparts for high-speed trains about what evidence test results, which, due to the lack of ATS, were carried out for a speed of 160 km / h. The results of the settlement research, using the mathematical model and the results of the driving brake tests, showed that the braking pathway of the electric train at a speed of 200 km / h is 1539 m, and at a speed of 300 km / h - 3172 m. The obtained brake path values comply with the technical requirements of the European Union TSI . Studies confirm that Ukraine has high-speed rolling stock for speeds up to 300 km / h. Key words: high-speed rolling stock, electric train, brake system, brake path, speed

The article discusses the issues of implementation and organization of high-speed transport. The objective of the article is to consider possible options for implementing highspeed (HS) motion systems using the principle of magnetic levitation, which will ensure high speeds for delivery of goods and carrying people over long distances. To achieve this objective, it is necessary to develop an engine and technical solutions for design of HS rolling stock, make decisions on energy supply infrastructure and the HS track, address safety issues and new control systems considering the state of the infrastructure and its design elements. The article discusses several options for implementation of high-speed transport systems, differing in the power supply system, current collection and track based on the magnetic levitation approach. An original approach is proposed in implementation of magnetic levitation transport using the technology of electromagnetic guns designed to implement traction forces of a magnetic levitation vehicle. The advantage of this approach is that it opens the possibility of maneuvering for the vehicle while driving. This allows to abandon switch turnouts, now significantly limiting the use of magnetic levitation transport. A mathematical model describing interaction of an electromagnetic gun and supermagnets located on the track is considered. In constructing the model, methods of the theory of electromagnetic field and interaction of magnetic bodies were used, and when constructing a model of interaction of rolling stock with a magnetic track, methods of mathematical algebra and the Cauchy theorem were used. The article discusses various principles of organization of movement using the magnetic levitation for urban, suburban, and intercity transport.

Purpose. Monitoring of current state of quantitative indices of regenerative energy in the suburban movement, the analysis of the factors influencing its volumes and improvement the principles of the train regenerative energy accounting on the basis of it. Relevance. Development of effective measures of increase the regeneration efficiency of the electric power in system of electric traction demands comprehensive completeness of information on quantitative indices of regeneration energy volumes at all possible levels of its analysis, in particular on the corresponding sections of RS movement that will allow to establish the influence on the level of regeneration of various factors, such as parameters of traction power supply and the organization of train service. As the existing system of the regenerative energy accounting does not allow to consider the specified factors, development of the principles for increasing the efficiency of the analysis of volumes of return energy to a contact line during regenerative braking on DC rolling stock is the actual direction of researches. Collective monitoring of regeneration energy volumes by specialists of locomotive service, power supply and traffic operating departments will be essentially new approach to definition of real factors and taking effective decisions for increasing of using of regenerative energy. Scientific novelty. It’s offered to consider the influence on quantitative indices of regenerative energy the parameters of traction power supply and the organization (sizes) of traffic service on sections. Practical importance. Increasing the efficiency of the regeneration energy accounting is an important element in drawing up the balance of energy for electric traction system, development of the effective methods for improvement of the conditions of regeneration in it and in estimation of its power indicators in general.

This paper presents a new method for operational analysis (OA) as a tool in simulation based design (SBD) for Naval Integrated Complex Systems (NICS), here applied to the submarine domain. An operational analysis model is developed and described. The first step of the design process is to identify and collect the needs from the customer and stakeholders, from which requirements can be deduced and designed in an organized way, i.e. requirement elucidation. It is important to evaluate the benefits or penalties of each requirement on the design as early as possible during initial design. Thus the OA-model must be able to evaluate requirements aggregated in synthesised ships such as initial concepts, i.e. Play-Cards, as representations of a submarine concept in the functions domain where the first set of requirements are designed, and establish their Measure of Capability (MoC) and Measure of Effectiveness (MoE). The work has resulted in an OA-model for submarine design that can be used during the development and for evaluation during the life cycle of a submarine system. The purpose of integrating OA in the design process is to explore the design space and evaluate not only technical solutions and cost but also the system effect in the early phases and thereby find and describe a suitable design room. This will generate a more rapid knowledge growth compared to the classic basic ship design procedures which focus on technical performance and cost. It is expected that we not only reach a higher level of knowledge about the design object but also achieve higher precision in the compliance to needs and deduced and designed requirements by the use of an OA-model as an integrated tool during initial design. This approach also invites customer participation within the framework of integrated project teams.
