A hot working environment can cause health problems for workers, one of them being dehydration. The hydration status of a worker can be influenced by the characteristic of the worker, physical environmental factors, and fluid intake. The objective of this study is to determine the relationship between workers’ characteristics, physical environmental factors, and fluid intake with the hydration status of workers. This study was conducted using the cross-sectional design method and used a simple random sampling technique to select  17 respondents and 17 home industries originally derived from 20 respondents and 20 home industries. The research location was on Jalan Banyu Urip Lor X Surabaya. Data were analyzed using cross-tabulation and fisher’s exact test with a confidence level of 95%. The data were collected through interviews, measurements, questionnaires, and verification. The results showed that there was a significant relationship between physical environmental factors, which included temperature (p = 0.002), humidity (p = 0.029), and fluid intake (p = 0.029), with the hydration status of workers. In general, it can be concluded that physical environmental factors and fluid intake are relevant towards the hydration status of workers. Therefore, it is recommended that the workers improve air circulation in the room by adding natural ventilation, an exhaust fan in the kitchen, and are advised to consume enough mineral water while working.Keywords: temperature, humidity, fluid intake, hydration status

AbstractObjectiveTo examine the associations of perceived physical environmental factors (availability of physical activity (PA) attributes at home, PA facilities in the neighbourhood, neighbourhood pleasantness and safety) and social environmental factors (parental sports behaviour and parental rule regarding sports participation) with adolescent leisure-time sports participation, and to explore whether the associations found were mediated by individual cognitions as derived from the theory of planned behaviour (TPB).DesignCross-sectional study.SettingIn schoolyear 2005/2006 adolescents from seventeen schools in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, completed a questionnaire during school hours that included self-reported measures of leisure-time sports participation, perceived physical environmental factors and TPB variables. Information about parental sports behaviour and parental rule was obtained from a questionnaire that was completed by one parent of the adolescents.SubjectsData were collected from 584 adolescent–parent combinations.ResultsData were analysed with multi-level logistic regression analyses. Availability of PA attributes at home (OR = 1·26), parents’ sports behaviour (OR = 2·03) and parental rule (OR = 1·64) were associated with a higher likelihood of adolescents’ leisure-time sports participation. These associations were partly mediated by attitude and intention.ConclusionsAdolescents were more likely to engage in leisure-time sports when PA attributes were available at home, when parents participated in sports activities and had a rule about their offspring participation in sports activities. These associations were partly mediated by attitude and intention. These results suggest that parents can importantly promote sports participation among their offspring by making sports activities accessible and a family routine.

Noise pollution contributes to environmental degradation and poses a threat to human and terrestrial lives. Noise pollution can be regarded as environmental noise and the propagation of noise may develop a harmful impact on the activity of human or animal life. This study was conducted to determine the influence of environmental factors and its associated health risks of noise pollution in Owerri Metropolis, Nigeria. The study employed a cross sectional descriptive research design. Measurement of noise levels was carried out at 24 different locations. The sampling technique used in this study was a cluster sampling technique. The average reading for each location and each ward were calculated. Also, 900 respondents comprising adults who live and/or operate in the areas were interviewed on the health risks associated with noise, using structured and standardized questionnaire. The results obtained showed that the computed average noise level at the 24 different locations ranged from 79.4 – 95.8dB, and all of which were significantly (P<0.05) above the acceptable standard ranges of <80dB, thereby rating the noise level not acceptable because they can be capable of causing discomfort and pains in man. Influence of environmental factors on noise pollution; 29(3.2%) reported heavy vehicular traffic plying residential areas contributed to noise generation, 33(3.7%) said indiscriminate blowing of siren. Perceived health risks were reported as 47(5.2%) disturbs sleep, 24(2.7%) causes annoyance, 41(4.61%) causes headache and 21(2.3%) interference with conversation. In conclusion, environmental factors, poor education and lack of enforcement of the laws influence noise generation and there is need to check the level of noise pollution in Owerri Metropolis.

Dehidrasi merupakan kekurangan cairan tubuh karena jumlah cairan yang keluar lebih banyak dari pada jumlah cairan yang masuk. Salah satu pekerjaan yang beresiko mengalami dehidrasi adalah pada perebusan pembuatan tempe dimana menggunakan lingkungan yang cukup panas sehingga banyak mengeluarkan keringat dan mebutuhkan asupan cairan yang lebih. Tujuan penelitian adalah untuk mengetahui faktor-faktor yang berhubungan dengan kejadian dehidrasi pada pekerja pengrajin tempe. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian deskriptif analitik dengan pendekatan cross sectional. Populasi dalam penelitian ini adalah seluruh jumlah pengrajin tempe. Sampel berjumlah 30 responden. Teknik pengambilan sampel dengan cara total sampling. Analisis data dalam penelitian ini secara univariat dan bivariat dengan uji chi square. Hasil penelitian ada hubungan konsumsi cairan (0,004) dan beban kerja (0,007) dengan kejadian dehidrasi pada pekerja pengrajin tempe. Tidak ada hubungan berat badan dengan kejadian dehidrasi pada pekerja pengrajin tempe (p=0,875). Diharapkan pemilik usaha pengrajin tempe untuk dapat selalu menyediakan air minum yang cukup bagi pekerjanya saat pekerja membutuhkan sehingga kejadian dehidrasi dan dampaknya dapat diminimalisir. Dehydration is a lack of body fluids because the amount of fluid that comes out is more than the amount of fluid that is entered. One of the jobs that are at risk of dehydration is in boiling the manufacture of tempeh which uses a hot enough environment so that you sweat a lot and require more fluid intake. The research objective was to determine the factors associated with the incidence of dehydration in tempe craftsmen. This research is a descriptive analytic study with a cross sectional approach. The population in this study were all of the tempe craftsmen. The sample is 30 respondents. The sampling technique was total sampling. Data analysis in this study was univariate and bivariate with the chi square test. The results showed a relationship between fluid consumption (0.004) and workload (0.007) with the incidence of dehydration among workers of tempe craftsmen. There is no correlation between body weight and dehydration in tempe craftsmen workers (p = 0.875). It is expected that the tempe craftsman business owners can always provide sufficient drinking water for their workers when they need them so that the incidence of dehydration and its impact can be minimized.

Terminal workers work with physical load activities every day and are in a hot work climate, which has the potential to experience status disturbances, potentially resulting in hydration problems. The purpose of the study was to analyze the relationship between Heat stress and Physical Workload and Hydration Status of Tirtonadi Bus StationWorkers in Surakarta. research design using observational analytic with a cross-sectional approach. A sample of 48 people was taken by simple random sampling technique. Heat stress is measured by heat stress area, physical workload with SNI 726/2009, and hydration status by urine specific gravity examination. the average heat stress measurement results amounted to 34.75 ° C. the correlation between independent and dependent variables shows there is a significant relationship between heat stress and physical workload with hydration status with p-value = 0,000 and r = -0,799, and p-value = 0.028 and r = 0.317. Conclusion: There is a significant correlation between heat stress and hydration status, and there is a significant correlation between physical workload and the hydration status of workers at the Tirtonadi Surakata Terminal.

Background : The content of water in fat cells in obese people is lower than muscle cells so that obese people are more easily dehydrated.Objective : The purpose of this study is to determine the risk factors of dehydration in adolescents.Methods : This study was a cross sectional study which began with screening of 168 students at SMA N 1 and 2 Semarang and found 63 students fulfilled the inclusion criteria. Subjects were selected by consecutive sampling. The dependent variable of this study is hydration status measured by the urine spesific gravity method. The independent variables consisted of obesity status that determined by the BMI/Age Z-score value, fluid intake was assessed using Semi Quantitative Food Frequency Questionnaire (SQ-FFQ), physical activity was assessed using physical activity questionnaire, whereas knowledge regarding fluid was assessed by questionnaire. Data were analyzed using Chi Square test.Results ; There were 52,4% (n=33) subjects who were obese and only 9,5% (n=6) subjects were well-hydrated. The incidence of dehydration in obese adolescents (63,6%) was higher than non obese adolescents (36,7%). Obese subjects was 1.73 times more dehydrated than non obese subjects. Subject with deficiency of fluid intake was 1,85 times more dehydrated than subject with adequate fluid intake. Knowledge regarding fluid and physical activity was not a risk factor for dehydration in adolescents.Conclusion :Obesity and inadequate fluid intake ia risk factor for dehydration in adolescents

Background. Needlestick and sharp injuries are a big risk to the health of nurses. Every day, nurses face the likelihood that they will injure themselves. Although many injuries will have no adverse effect, the possibility of acquiring infections like hepatitis C virus, hepatitis B virus, and human immunodeficiency virus can cause untold psychological harm. Nurses are in danger of injuries caused by needlestick and sharp instruments in hospitals. Objective. The objective of this study was to assess the magnitude and determinants of needlestick and/or sharp injuries among nurses working at Tikur Anbessa Specialized Hospital, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, 2018. Methods. An institution-based cross-sectional study was conducted among 268 nurses working at Tikur Anbessa Specialized Hospital from February to March 2018. A stratified random sampling technique was used to select the study participants. Data were collected using a self-administered questionnaire. A bivariate and multivariate logistic regression model was fitted to spot factors associated with needlestick and/or sharp injury. An adjusted odds ratio with a 95% confidence interval was computed to determine the level of significance. Result. The prevalence of needlestick and/or sharp injuries among nurses was 36.2% (95% CI 30.2%, 42.3%). Presence of contaminated needles and/or sharp materials in the working area ( AOR = 2.052 (95% CI 1.110, 3.791)), needle recapping after use ( AOR = 1.780 (95% CI 1.025, 3.091)), working in the pediatric ward ( AOR = 0.323 (95% CI 0.112, 0.930)), and being female ( AOR = 0.461 (95% CI 0.252, 0.845)) were significantly associated with needlestick and/or sharp injury at p value of ≤0.05. Conclusion and Recommendation. The proportion of needlestick and/or sharp injury was high among nurses. The safety of nurses depends directly on the degree to which nurses can identify and control the numerous occupational hazards specific to jobs. Thus, working unit specific safety precautions, a safe working environment, and appropriate needle and sharp disposal improve nurses’ safety practices and thereby decrease the injuries.

A work accident is an undesirable adverse event against a human, damaging property or disadvantage to the process. Data from the ILO in 2013 says that one worker die every 15 seconds due to workplace accidents. This study aims to analyze accidents in welding workers in CV. Cahaya Tiga Putri Kelurahan Sungai Sapih Kecamatan Kuranji Padang in 2017. The research design used was cross-sectional study. This research was conducted at CV. Cahaya Tiga Putri Padang located at Jalan Lolongkaran Sungai Sapih Padang in December to July 2017. The population of this research were welding workers. Samples were taken using total sampling technique, as many as 32 people. Data were analyzed univariat and bivariate with chi-square test. The result of the research shows that 46,9% of respondents have work accident, 53,1% of respondents have unsafe behavior, 53,1% of respondent have unsafe condition, 56,3% respondent have bad knowledge. From the statistical test results known there was a relationship between unsafe acts with work accidents, there was a relationship between unsafe conditions with work accidents and there was a relationship between knowledge with accidents. To reduce the number of occupational accidents, it is expected that workers should always working with using personal protective equipment (PPE), create a safe working environment and for the owner in order to improve worker knowledge by providing training and promotion of occupational health and safetty such as counseling about PPE.Key words : Work Accident, Unsafe Action, Unsafe Condition, Knowledge

Aims: The aim of current study is to find out the prevalence of depression in doctors in different hospitals of Karachi and its association with lifestyle, the field of specialty and coping mechanisms. Place and Duration of Study: The sample was collected from 10 different hospitals of Karachi, in a period of one Year i.e., March 2019 to February 2020. Methodology: A descriptive cross-sectional study design using non-probability consecutive type of sampling technique was used. Sample size was calculated at 95% confidence interval and was found to be 368. The sample was classified in two broader categories Surgery & Allied and Medicine & Allied. For identification of depression level, Public Health Questionnaire (PHQ-9) was used. A 28-item questionnaire Brief COPE was used to asses coping mechanisms. Results: In total 400 forms were used for data analysis. The mean age of doctors was 35 ± 4 years, 65% were males while 35% were females, there was a statistically significant association of female gender with depression. Chi-Square was applied to determine the association of depression and departments and it was found to be highly significant with a P < .001. Highest level of depression was found in Orthopedics and Psychiatry departments followed by Surgery and Gynecology. While Otolaryngology was the least depressed department. Chi-square was applied and a statistically significant association of low monthly income and depression with a p-value of 0.02. In Surgery and allied there was a statistically significant association of depression with extensive working hours and lack of facilities with a p-value of 0.01 and 0.04. While in Medicine and allied there was a statistically significant association of depression with a harsh attitude of seniors and an uncomfortable working environment with a p-value of 0.02 and 0.03. A linear regression model comparing depression and its associations with coping strategies was applied. Conclusion: Our study shows that depression is present in a vast majority of doctors from multiple specialties. Various risk factors for depression have also been identified so appropriate coping strategies should be formulated to deal with it.

The condition of work environment (patient room) is often out of concern to the management so that they do not meet the requirements of Regulation of Minister of Health of the Republic of Indonesia (Permenkes) No. 1204 of 2004 concerning Hospital Environmental Health Requirements. It will have implications for the performance of the doctor (specialist). This study aimed to describe the conditions of the work environment (temperature, lighting, and dust) and the doctor's performance and the relationship between the work environment and the doctor's performance. This research was a quantitative study with a cross sectional design. The research was conducted in 3 teaching hospitals in Medan, namely H. Adam Malik Hospital, dr. Pirngadi and RSU USU during April - November 2018. The study population was 236 people with a sample of 22 people taken using incidental sampling technique. The data obtained by measuring the conditions of the work environment (temperature, lighting, and dust) and interviews using a questionnaire to measure the performance of doctors. Data analysis used Fisher's Exact Test. The results showed that there was no influence of work environment conditions on the doctor's performance, however the temperature and lighting conditions did not meet the requirements. Meanwhile, the temperature of the work room affected the behavior of doctors. Thus, the hospital management needs to take corrective action on working environment conditions by replacing old air conditioners or regularly maintaining air conditioners, setting up a barrier against noise sources, and replacing the bulb with a lighter intensity. The medical committee needs to regularly supervise the work of doctors so that their performance is achieved according to the target.

This study was conducted to assess knowledge and attitude of medication among Nurses in Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital, Calabar. Three (3) research questions were raised and one hypothesis formulated to direct the study. The descriptive cross-sectional survey design was used to study a total of one hundred and two (102) nurses selected from the study area using the stratified random sampling technique. A well developed and structured questionnaire was used for data collection. The questionnaire was duly validated and its reliability ensured. Data collected were analyzed using descriptive statistics of frequency count, simple percentage, mean, weighted mean, and standard deviation. The study hypothesis was tested using Pearson Product Moment Correlation Coefficient analysis with its significance level set at 0.05. Findings of the study revealed that majority (73.6%) of the nurses used for the study had adequate knowledge of medication error, and majority (72.6%) had positive attitude towards prevention of medication error in the Hospital. Factors that affect safe medication practices among the nurses include: individual negligence, excessive workload, inadequate staff strength, poor working environment, lack of staff development and training, lack of equipment and supplies, non-regular review of patient’s drugs by doctors, and prescription of under dosage drug by doctors. There is a statistically significant and positive relationship between knowledge and attitude of nurses towards prevention of medication error. Based on these findings, it was recommended that government should employ more qualified nurses to increase the strength of nurses in the Hospital and improve the nurse-patient ratio to avoid excessive workload which is a strong and significant contributing factor to medication error among nurses in the Hospital.
