Abstract The clinical and health economic value of clinical laboratory diagnostics has been debated increasingly in recent years without resulting in practical recommendations for measuring the effectiveness of diagnostic tests. One way to achieve such a goal could be to enrich the mere data of laboratory test results with additional information about their likelihood ratios for diagnosis. The diagnostic significance of test results can be judged subjectively based on the experience of the treating physician or expressed objectively in the form of likelihood ratios. The provision of likelihood ratios by the laboratory would increase the impact of laboratory diagnostics in healthcare and thus have positive economic value. Consequently, likelihood ratios should be taken into account in reimbursement strategies.

Reading comprehension is an activity to build people's understanding through texts by combining information obtained through texts with their knowledge and experience. Students face problems in reading comprehension, such as difficulty answering questions related to descriptive text, not being able to read the entire text, and confusing new vocabulary. This study aimed to determine how students perceive and improve reading comprehension after using Kahoot! Games as learning media for reading comprehension on description text at State Junior High School in Cilacap. This study uses an experimental sequential mix method with a qualitative descriptive method as the first order followed by a pre-experimental method using a one-group pretest-posttest design. Based on the results of the study, it was found that students' perceptions of using Kahoot! Games tend to be positive, students find learning fun, increase focus and caution, eliminate boredom, and motivate students to read the entire text. Furthermore, there was an increase in students' reading ability as indicated by the paired-sample t-test results where the sig value. the count obtained was 0.002 0.05, and the count obtained was 6.837 table 2.776. Supported by an 18% increase in the average student training results from 66.4 to 81.

English vocabulary mastery in elementary school students is quite minimal. This can happen because they have not yet learned English because the lessons have been removed from the elementary school curriculum starting in 2014. The implementation team was restless and wanted to introduce English early on to students, especially at SDN 012 West Balikpapan as a form of initial recognition in order to survive and able to compete in junior high school. The method used is to provide theory and practice to the target audience. The activity of introducing English vocabulary on the theme of the school environment is carried out through face to face with the delivery of material through the lecture method followed by guidance, practice, and evaluation in understanding vocabulary with the themes of alphabets, numbers, colors and school subjects, School Things, and People in School. The results of community service activities carried out at SDN 012 West Balikpapan provide considerable benefits and are needed by students at the school. School principals, teachers, and students expect this activity to be carried out continuously through mentoring activities and forms of English language training and other lessons. Language Training is one form of non-formal education that is very important and useful for students to get to know English that still feels foreign.

Statins have anti-inflammatory and potentially antimicrobial activity, but whether they have a beneficial effect on the course of infectious diseases is controversial. In this study, we assessed the impact of pre-existing statin use on the course and outcome of Lyme neuroborreliosis manifested as meningoradiculitis (Bannwarth’s syndrome). One hundred and twenty three consecutive patients with Bannwarth’s syndrome, of whom 18 (14.6%) were being treated with statins, were included in the study. To assess the influence of statin use on the course and outcome of the disease, univariate and multivariable analyses were performed. No statistically significant association was found between statin pre-treatment and the clinical manifestations, laboratory test results, and outcome of Bannwarth’s syndrome. In conclusion, pre-existing use of statins did not significantly impact either the clinical presentation or the outcome of Bannwarth’s syndrome.

Geologically, Indonesia is a country prone to disasters, particularly volcanic eruptions. One of the steps that can be taken to minimize the impact of volcanic eruptions is through the education sector as foundation the knowledge, attitudes, and skills of students. Therefore, this study aims to determine the preparedness of students in dealing with volcanic eruptions based on aspects of knowledge about volcanic eruptions, responsiveness in dealing with volcanic eruptions, and evacuation skills in dealing with volcanic eruptions. The subjects of the study were 26 students from 8th grade at Junior High School of 1 Ngancar. Research method in this study is by interviews and tests. Samples of respondents were taken randomly based on suggestions from science teachers at Junior High School of 1 Ngancar. The results of the research that have been carried out are as follows: Student preparedness is still in the poor category, seen from the aspect of knowledge and skills in evacuation, while the aspect of disaster response attitudes shows conflicting results, where based on the test of disaster response attitudes, 83.3% is in the good category. However, based on interviews with science teachers, it shows that the facilities, and there has never been any socialization related to disaster mitigation in the school environment. Therefore, it is necessary to do an application test to find out whether disaster response attitudes are truly embedded in students.

BACKGROUND Most displays of laboratory test results include a standard reference range. For some patients (eg, those with chronic conditions), however, getting a result within the standard range may be unachievable, inappropriate, or even harmful. OBJECTIVE The objective of our study was to test the impact of including clinically appropriate goal ranges outside the standard range in the visual displays of laboratory test results. METHODS Participants (N=6776) from a demographically diverse Web-based panel viewed hypothetical glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) test results (HbA1c either 6.2% or 8.2%) as part of a type 2 diabetes management scenario. Test result visual displays included either a standard range (4.5%-5.7%) only, a goal range (6.5%-7.5%) added to the standard range, or the goal range only. The results were displayed in 1 of the following 3 display formats: (1) a table; (2) a simple, two-colored number line (simple line); or (3) a number line with diagnostic categories indicated via colored blocks (block line). Primary outcome measures were comprehension of and negative reactions to test results. RESULTS While goal range information did not influence the understanding of HbA1c=8.2% results, the goal range only display produced higher levels of comprehension and decreased negative reactions to HbA1c=6.2% test results compared with the no goal range and goal range added conditions. Goal range information was less helpful in the block line condition versus the other formats. CONCLUSIONS Replacing the standard range with a clinically appropriate goal range could help patients better understand how their test results relate to their personal targets.
