Integrated library system (ILS) supports the entire business operations of an academic library from acquiring and processing library resources to making them available to user communities and preserving them for future use. As libraries’ needs evolve, there is a pressing demand for libraries to migrate from one generation of ILS to the next. This complex migration process is often the single largest investment in both budget and personnel involvement, but its success is by no means guaranteed. We draw upon enterprise resource planning (ERP) and critical success factors (CSFs) literature to identify the most salient CSFs for ILS migration success through a qualitative study with four cases. We identified that top management involvement, vendor support, user involvement, selection process, project team competence, project management and tracking, interdepartmental communication, data analysis and conversion, user education and training, and user emotion management are the CSFs that determine a migration project success.

Keywords: Integrated library systems, information systems, library automation, critical success factors, and academic libraries.

Purpose Lean and green strategies are good options to increase the environmental and operational performance of manufacturing industries. The purpose of this paper is to identify the critical success factors (CSFs) to implement green lean practices (GLPs) in manufacturing industries through the review of the literature and to develop a conceptual model after analysing the fundamental facilitating factors by using ISM-MICMAC approach. Design/methodology/approach The methodology consists of identifying 12 critical success factors (CSFs) for the green lean implementation by reviewing the relevant available literature. The views of eight experts are valued for inter-relationships of these factors. ISM-MICMAC approach is used for analysing the relations between factors and to develop a conceptual model for green lean implementation. Findings Twelve CSFs are identified through a review of the literature to adopt GLPs in manufacturing industries. This paper has established the relationships among 12 identified CSFs using the ISM methodology. This paper analyses the dependence power and the driving power of identified CSFs with the help of MICMAC analysis. “Top management commitment” and “Government support” are the most significant CSFs implement GLPs successfully. Research limitations/implications The ISM model presented in this study is based on expert opinions. But expert opinions may be biased as these are based on their own judgements. However, the proposed ISM based model needs statistically validations. The ISM model in the present study may be tested in real-world situations of manufacturing industries where results obtained may be different. Practical implications This study may provide a useful input for academicians and managers of industries to differentiate between independent and dependent CSFs and their mutual relationships which would help them to focus on those key CSFs that are most significant to implement GLPs. Originality/value A conceptual ISM model of identified CSFs shows the different levels of these CSFs. This model may help the manufacturer to implement the green-lean strategies. It may also support policymakers towards adopting GLPs. Arranging CSFs in a hierarchy and to categorise the CSFs into different levels with the help of ISM-MICMAC is an exclusive effort in the area of green lean engagement.

PurposeThis study aims to identify the main elements that describe the luxury supply chain. It discusses the relationship between them in a framework that organises and summarises the literature.Design/methodology/approachA systematic literature review was conducted that returned 288 papers, which were selected based on specific quality and theme criteria. Content analysis was used to investigate the alignment of critical success factors with the performance goals and configuration elements of luxury supply chains in the final sample of 66 papers.FindingsThe results provide a framework that clarifies the relationship between the configuration elements and supply chain performance goals and the critical success factors for three different levels of the luxury market. Depending on the level of luxury, performance goals and configuration elements assume a different importance and different characteristics. An understanding of these differences is relevant for defining strategies and managing luxury supply chains properly. The three different configurations also reveal new research avenues to be further investigated.Research limitations/implicationsThe study is limited in terms of its data source as the papers reviewed were collected from only three academic databases.Practical implicationsThe findings of this work help incorporate knowledge about luxury supply chain management into a framework that can be easily used for defining strategies and organising the supply chain according to the different levels of luxury.Originality/valueThis study represents an important evolution in organising the current literature on luxury supply chain management into a framework that covers critical success factors, supply chain performance goals and configuration elements for three different levels of luxury, which in turn creates promising opportunities for future enquiry.

The topic of this research are critical success factors (CSFs) with a focus on factors that constitute the basis for the success of insurance companies. There are no critical success factors common to all enterprises, all areas and all activities. In insurance companies, key performance indicators primarily depend on the service quality and the level of customer satisfaction. In contemporary business conditions, the relevance of the service has been increasingly important. Therefore, the concept named 5P is suggested, standing for purpose, pride, partnership, protection and personalization, as these five factors define the requirements that must be met, if the insurer’s service is to be perceived to be of high-quality, achieve client satisfaction and build client loyalty. The paper presents a research into the perception of insurance service and factors of insurance quality in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina (FBiH). Research results correspond to the 5P concept and reveal the security factor as the most important factor for the insured. A fast and efficient payment of claims, the attitude of the salespeople toward the insured, described in terms of respectful and knowledgeable staff, as well as the clarity of promotion and the availability of insurance service also ranked high.

Examining the interrelationships between critical success factors (CSFs) is of importance for the successful development of PPP airports. Many studies are available for the identification of CSFs for infrastructure projects, but very limited research have been conducted so far on investigating the interrelationships between the CSFs of PPP airports. The study is based on the institutional theory, which considers the exploration of the relationships between different institutional factors. The results show that Process Characteristics have comparatively more impact on Public Characteristics and, similarly, Cooperative Environment has more impact on Process Characteristics. However, Process Characteristics have a less significant impact on Private Characteristics. The study also revealed that to achieve high-quality services and the protection of public interest under a PPP mechanism, proper government supervision is required. Moreover, customers’ satisfaction and their opinion are also responsible for the achievement of high-quality services and better value for money.

This paper presents a structured method, based on practical experience, to derive critical success factors using a business game called ‘scenario playing’. It aims to show why this method is superior to other well-known focusing techniques or group evaluation methods. The scenario playing business game consists of submitting to managers a sequence of reports, one after the other. Each report (called a scenario) contains randomly generated outcome values for some parameters of the business (called candidate critical success factors) which the manager deemed to be most important for the business at hand. After reviewing each report i.e. scenario, the manager has to give a value judgement about it, like ‘good’, ‘bad’ or ‘indifferent’, reflecting his perception of how the business would be doing if the report was real. A statistical method is used to evaluate these answers and deduct from them which parameters are the most important for the manager who played the given session of the game. The paper contains a short outline of the statistical evaluation (learning) algorithm used by the author and the description of a software tool that contains an implementation of this technique. Finally, the experience gained by using this tool and approach to derive critical success factors on different projects is discussed.
