Assessing the experiential meaning in welcoming speech of Asian Games 2018 in Indonesia is essential to do to get the real face and character of Indonesian people, especially for the person who becomes the representative of all Indonesian people to speak in front of other Asian nations. The research contributes in the linguistic field because the data are investigated through systemic functional linguistics to be described further. The research gap is exploring the data found in the sport context in six kinds of processes. The data show that the speaker uses the material process in the first rank (45%) to show the activities done and the achievement, the second rank is for relational process (25%) that the speaker tends to give positive attribute and good identification for Indonesia and Asian nations. The last rank (15%) is for mental process and (15%) is for behavioral process which state about his feeling and his urge by using words about the intention to live in peace in Asia.

This research is aimed at describing the English sentences used on the experiential meaning in the drink labels. Butt, et al. (1996:44) introducing us to the notion that language simultaneously performs three functions (experiential, interpersonal and textual) and one of the functions which is focused on the process is that experiential meanings. The objectives of this research are to investigate clauses and their constituents realized in the English sentences on the drink labels and to map out the experiential meanings realized in the clauses in the drink labels. The writer used qualitative descriptive analysis to find out the characteristics of English sentences used in the drink labels. The object of the study is the sentences used in the drink labels. The unit analysis is a clause used in the drink labels. The data were collected by the use of documents. To analyze the data, Method of data analysis, the writer took some steps; there are identification of 19 products of the drink labels, identification of the labels, identification of the sentences used in the drink labels, and identification of the experiential meaning. The result shows that, the 19 drink labels have 79 clauses and each clause has different constituents there are two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, and ten constituents. The dominant constituent is nine constituents. Discussion on Experiential meaning, there are participant, process, and circumstance. The dominant process is material process. It has 50 clauses. Then the relational process is lees dominant, it has 29 clauses. In addition, the last process is projecting. It has no clauses. It is suggested that labels are good media for teaching English, especially systemic functional linguistics. By understanding the meaning of the labels, students and or readers are able to get the knowledge about the meanings of the clauses in the drink labels. They also can get the benefit of consuming the drinks. The other researchers would be able to continue analyzing for the next steps using different point of views.

This paper aims to find the ideational functions in bahasa Kaili. Linguistics Systemic Function Halliday is used to find that Ideational Function. The data is collected through a library method, using reading and note taking techniques. Data were analyzed using a qualitative descriptive approach. The results of the analysis showed that in the mental process, there is only one participant in a clause, in the form of a human, who senses-thinks, feels-who always has consciousness. While in the material process, every participant is something, while in the mental process, concerning perceived, thoughtful, or accepted, the position of sense or sense is not only limited to certain semantic or grammatical categories but broader than the participants in the process material. In short, participants in mental processes are not just ‘something’ but, it can be facts. It is lead to one conclusion that in general, the structure of the Kaili and Indonesian language clauses is not quite different between each other.

The experiential meaning-making in narrative can be studied by applying the Ideational Metafunction theoretical framework as introduced by Halliday. According to Halliday, the meaning-making can be realized by means of three Transitivity main elements found in clauses which are process, participants and circumstances. A study was conducted on three Malay short stories entitled ‘Catatan di Meja Makan’, ‘Anita’ and ‘Meneruskan Perjalanan’ by Zurinah Hassan to analyse the experiential meaning-making of narrative using Transitivity analysis from Systemic Functional Linguistics as the analytical framework. The findings of the Transitivity analysis on Malay short stories show that material process types are mostly found and followed by mental processes. This results in the most found participants are actors for material process types, whilst participants for mental processes are sensors. The findings also show that the participants for material processes can be living or non-living entities. The writer usually conveys the meaning of short stories in active forms, by which means active processes are used to illustrate the actions of participants in Malay short stories. The findings of this study are a contribution to the field of Malay language studies using the theoretical framework of Systemic Functional Linguistics, of which studies on Malay language using this theory are still lacking.

In mass communication, the material process use makes it easy to lay emphasis on the participants’ actions, events, and circumstances of their occurrence, while mental process contributes to insisting on their psychological and emotional states. As for indirect speech, it characterizes the version always used by messengers, public announcers, journalists, and reporters. This study aims to analyze Transitivity and Indirect Speech in clauses ingrained and identified in some passages taken from Helon Habila’s Oil On Water (2011). One of the major principles of Systemic Functional Linguistics is that the exploration of the Transitivity properties (processes, participants, and circumstances) in a text leads to draw conclusions about the question -“who does what to whom, under what circumstances?”? In order to deliver the set objectives, the ongoing study specifically draws on the principles of experiential meaning to get data from the selected extracts and, focuses on describing the clauses containing reported speeches. By following the mixed research methods guiding principles, this research work has generated some data which enable to come up with a conclusion on the psychological and psychosomatic states of the participants as well as on the assigned status adopted by some characters. That correlates them to reporters and journalists. This research work has enabled me to develop another. This paper has made it easy to have another view about Helon Habila’s messages and the way they are conveyed throughout his novel.

This research aims to analyze the use of transitivity in the tenth grade students’ recount text and to find out the types of processes that are mostly found in the text. The data are taken from five recount texts written by five groups of the tenth grade students in one of the senior high schools in Cimahi. The researchers used descriptive qualitative as the method of this research. From the whole data, the researchers found 69 clauses and those are divided into seven types of processes as stated by Halliday. After classifying them, the researchers only found six types of processes which are: material process found in 45 clauses (65.2%), mental process found in 11 clauses (16%), relational process found in 5 clauses (7.2%), existential process found in 4 clauses (5.8%), behavioral process found in 2 clauses (2.9%) and verbal process found in 2 clauses (2.9%). While meteorological process was not found in the data. The most commonly process found in the data was material process which consists of 45 clauses for the recount text was retelling something happened in the past which experienced by the students. Keywords:        Systemic Functional Grammar, Transitivity, Recount Text

This study of the transitivity system aims to identify and describe the type of transitivity, namely the process, participant, and circumstance which appeared in Jokowi and Prabowo campaign speech in 2019. The method used was qualitative method and researcher as key instrument in this study. The method used in collecting data was Metode Simak which proposed by Sudaryanto (2018). Data collected were analyzed by using the theory of Halliday (1985), namely Systemic Functional Linguistics (SFL) which focused on transitivity system. The results of the study based on data analysis show that there are 24 data or about 32% material process as dominant process that found in Jokowi campaign speech, the most dominant participant is actor that found about 15.1% or 23 data , and time as the most dominant of circumstance that found about 21.4% or 9 data. Whereas in Prabowo's campaign speech found that the most dominant process that used is material process about 37.5% or 30 data with the most dominant participant, namely actor and goal that have the same amount of data about 28 data or 18.2%, the circumstance type which is the most dominant used namely place about 11 data or 26.8%. The most dominant transitivity process used by the two presidential candidates shows that the two presidential candidates try to convey things related to the activities or actions that will be done by each presidential candidate if they are elected to become president of Indonesia in 2019-2024 period.

This article argues that Bakhtin's repeated assertions that poetry, unlike the novel, is inherently monologic can be questioned in the light of a clear case of dialogism in Tennyson's 'The Lotos-Eaters'. A discussion of its dialogism is formalised by an analysis of grammatical function-structures of the Experiential component of the Ideational function of clause structure, following Halliday (1985), in the tradition of Systemic Functional Linguistics. In particular, the paper discusses the significance of the instantiation of transitivity and ergativity. It incorporates modifications suggested by Davidse (1992a) to the analysis of Material process types and argues that these modifications are useful for foregrounding the different worlds construed by the poem. The analysis reveals three worlds or voices in the poem: (1) the transitive:effective, or Deed and Extension paradigm of the outside world; (2) the transitive:middle/ergative, or Instigation of Process paradigm of lotos-land; and (3) the Behavioural/ Mental:Perceptive paradigm of the mariners-in-Lotos-land. It is argued that the mariners oppose (1), wish to ally themselves with (2), but settle for (3) as a strategy.
