Correlation coefficients between the results of political parties in the 2016 State Duma elections in the Russian Federation as a whole and in 26 regions, as well as in the elections of regional parliaments of 35 subjects of the Russian Federation in 2012–2015 were calculated. For the 2016 State Duma elections, data was used at all levels – regions, single-member electoral districts, TEC and PEC. It is noted that the “United Russia” correlations with all major parties are generally negative. A fairly high level of correlation is observed between the liberal parties. The main focus is on correlations between parliamentary opposition parties and parties with similar names. The correlation coefficients between the results of parties and candidates in the State Duma elections of 2011 and 2016 and the Presidential elections of 2012 and 2018 were also calculated, showing the stability of the geographical distribution of the electorate of the main parties. Regional differences in the nature of correlations between the main political parties are noted. It is assumed that correlations between parties reflect not so much their ideological closeness as the social closeness of their electorate. In this regard, it is noted that a positive correlation between the results of ideologically distant parties (“Yabloko” and the Communist party or “Yabloko” and “Rodina”) is associated with their reliance on the urban electorate and, perhaps, its most educated part. The reasons for voting for spoiler parties and the role of these parties in reducing the results of the main participants in the elections are discussed.

Introduction. The problem of the spread of extremist organizations’ activities in the South of Russia is intensified due to the increasing role of international actors and the influence of neighboring States. Extremist groups are included in the sphere of interests of countries with high level of institutional instability that have unresolved territorial administrative problems and also major terrorist organizations such as the ‘Islamic State’ (ISIL) prohibited on the territory of the Russian Federation. Methods. The author applies an institutional method to determine the role of international influence on the development of extremist organizations in the South of Russia. Analysis. Despite the decline in its activity, the ISIL continues to be among the priority threats to international security. The Russian Federation has successfully conducted anti-terrorist operation in Syria, while the ISIL operates in Iraq and other regions of the world. Its area of interest includes Russia, since the ISIL units exist on the territory of the Caucasus region and the Crimean Peninsula. At the same time, the territory of the Rostov region and the Republic of Crimea are subjected to the influence of the Ukrainian geo-strategic interests. The Ukrainian authorities act with territorial claims to the Russian Federation on a number of border regions as well as organize sabotage operations and support marginal movements. The so-called ‘Circassian question’ continues to be significant for the South of Russia. In the context of the present research, the author poses the problem of considering the interaction of neighboring countries and extremist organizations in the Russian border regions. The institutional research approaches allow determining the main “point of tension” in the southern border area, and to identify the main actors influencing the extremist organization. Results. The results of the work give conclusions about the main directions of foreign States’ influence on the regions of the South of Russia and counteraction to them by the security authorities.

The article clarifies the concept of “agricultural holding”, using an approach to assessing the size on the basis of the total revenue of all agricultural organizations within the agricultural holding. It has been revealed that only 100 of the total number of agricultural holdings that were identified can be attributed to large business entities. They comprise about 3% of agricultural organizations in the country, while their share in the proceeds is about 37%. A large share of agricultural holdings — large business subjects under the control of Russian entities operate in one, and under the control of foreign legal entities — in three or more regions of the Russian Federation. Vertical integration within the framework of large agricultural holdings with different schemes for including the stages of processing and sale of products produced in their agricultural organizations allows them to receive advantages. Strengthening the role of large business entities in agriculture puts on the agenda the issue of differentiating approaches to taxation and state support in agriculture, depending on the size of the companies’ agricultural businesses.
