This research focuses on traditional songs of ethnic community Sangihe Masamper that are usually performed in religion and or traditional ceremony, the problems discussed are what the expressions are used and what cultural meanings and values are included in those expressions. The objectives of this research are to describe: 1) the expressions, 2) the cultural meanings and values used in the songs of Masamper. The data are analyzed by using the theory of Koentjaraningrat (1979), Givon (2009) Fraenkel (1977), Kridalaksana ( 2008), and Pei and Gaynor (1980 ). The result of research are the expressions of the songs consist of  Mawu, Ruata, Gengghona, Ghenggona, Langi, (God), anau sembau, Ku abe gagholokang’u u’waling liaghang gatinu, maning nahiu u pulangeng kai supato we senggesa-dedorongang mang sehimaneng kuhae ure mesasigesa, pirua, tembonang kawanua, Sangihe I kekendage, su pedarame and inang I amang. The cultural meanings are respect and honor to God, tight relationship, advice, work together, sympathy, respectfulness, admiration, togetherness, and honor. The cultural values are belief, brotherhood, education, unity, love, obedience, love homeland, and harmony. From the research, it can be concluded that the research needs to be carried out such as things that relate to sasasa (advice), more complete of Masamper.

Kapoya village is located in SouthMinahasa precisely in the District Suluun-Tareran. Problems of this research,what is the folk songs in Tontemboan areas that exist in Kapoya village andwhat is the function, what cultural meanings contained in the Tontemboan folksongs, and why villagers of Kapoya still sing the Tontemboan folk songs basedon their reflected the mindset. The purpose of this study is to identify the Tontemboanfolk songs and explain its function, explains the cultural meaning of theTontemboan folk songs, and explain the reason for the villagers of Kapoya stillsing the Tontemboan folk songs based on their reflected the mindset.This study used descriptive method withqualitative approach. The observation point chosen five informants. The firstone as the main informant and the other as a companion. In this study,collected twenty-seven folk songs in Tontemboan.In terms of meaningful culturalTontemboan folk songs in the Kapoya village and their functions, which consistsof 27 traditional songs and their functions. In terms of cultural meaningscontained in Tontemboan folk songs have some deep meaning, such as the peopleof Kapoya village who believe in the power of God as the Creator, the publicbelieves that happen compassion into the new year is a joy to remember therelatives and siblings. In terms of folk songs sung reason thatis the mindset of the villagers of Kapoya, namely as guidelines, instructions,and the correct way for a person to live a life based onwhat he believes and meaningful bring compassion, happy, respectful, and proudof the life lived in the Kapoya village.Keywords: Culture, Tontemboan, Kapoya

Lirik lagu merupakan salah satu manifestasi sastera yang mencerminkan ketinggian nilai budaya masyarakat pendukungnya. Lirik dan irama lagu semestinya nusa yang berpisah tiada dan menjadi hiburan dalam kehidupan manusia. Menerusi lirik lagu ia bukan hanya sekadar mengulit halwa telinga dan memberi hiburan semata-mata, malah dalam seni kata lagu juga terkandung dengan nilai, moral dan pengajaran yang mampu memberi didikan dalam membentuk keperibadian seseorang. Kepelbagaian genre dan bait lagu yang terhasil menunjukkan variasi kebudayaan daripada pengkarya yang menunjukkan kreadiliti keunggulan dalam sesuatu penciptaan karya. Kajian ini dilaksanakan sebagai merungkai persoalan tentang peranan lirik lagu terpilih dalam mengembleng unsur positif terhadap masyarakat pendengar. Selain itu, kajian ini juga meneliti bait-bait lirik lagu Tolong Ingatkan Aku, yang dihasil dan dinyanyikan oleh Ana Raffali sehingga diangkat mempunyai nilai komersial kerana telah dijulang sebagai juara lagu dalam Anugerah Juara Lagu Ke-25. Kaedah kajian ini dijalankan secara kualitatif atau kepustakaan melalui penelitian bahan seperti artikel, buku, majalah dan tesis. Teori resepsi dijadikan sebagai sandaran untuk meneliti dan merungkaikan setiap bait lirik lagu ini yang merangkumi aspek gaya bahasa, teknik penulisan, unsur kesamaran, bauran kiasan dan perlambangan atau semiotik bagi membuktikan falsafah gaya penyampaian pengkarya. Hasil kajian mendapati lagu Tolong Ingatkan Aku merupakan sebuah karya berbentuk lagu puisi yang terhasil dalam penyampaian implisit sebagai memberi pesanan, sindiran halus dan nasihat terhadap kehidupan manusia agar tidak alpa tatkala berada di kemuncak kegemilangan.   The lyrics of the song are one of the literary manifestations that reflect the high cultural values of its supporters. The lyrics and the rhythm of the song should not be separated tomb and become an entertainment in human life. Through the lyrics of the song it is not just about listening to the ears and providing entertainment, but also in the art of the word, the song also contains the values, morals and teachings that can provide education in shaping one's personality. The variety of genres and bytes of the resulting song reflects the cultural variation of the work that exemplifies the mastery of excellence in the creation of a work. This study was conducted to address the question of the role of selected song lyrics in shaping positive elements in the listening community. In addition, this study also examines the lyrics of the song Tolong Ingatkan Aku, which was produced and sung by Ana Raffali until it was commercially recognized for being nominated for a song of the year in the 25th Anugerah Juara Lagu. This research method is conducted qualitatively or literature review through the study of materials such as articles, books, magazines and theses. The reception theory was used as a guideline to examine and interpret every verse of the lyrics of this song, which included aspects of language style, writing techniques, ambiguity, metaphorical and symbolic or semiotic elements to prove the artist's delivery style philosophy. The result of the study found the song Tolong Ingatkan Aku is a work of poetic form that results in implicit delivery as giving orders, delicate satire and advice to human life to avoid the harp while at its peak.

Work orientations and cultural accounts of work are important dimensions of the meaningful work literature. This chapter addresses the question of what makes work worth doing, arguing that accounts of meaningfulness should be more closely based in societal culture and the dominant work orientations manifest in varying cultural settings. It differentiates between a “realization” perspective on meaningful work which emphasizes need fulfillment, and a “justification” perspective which involves the ability to account for one’s work as worthy. This is particularly relevant for understanding how culture influences meaningful work through fostering orientations that promote a sense of meaningfulness. Culture can “push” individuals by promoting specific cultural values and beliefs, or alternatively enable individuals to “pull” particular perspectives from a range of options. Individuals can also create a shift in cultural meanings at the collective level. Some important unanswered questions about meaningful work are identified, to guide future researchers in the field.

Abstract This is a cognitive linguistic study of a cultural-specific metaphor of a leader in Ekegusii, an African Bantu language in Kenya. A descriptive research design was used whereby the natives were asked to identify and explain the Ekegusii leader metaphorical terms and phrases, describe the social cultural values and to account for the cognitive mapping processes involved. The data collected were analyzed using the Cognitive Metaphor Theory (CMT) of Lakoff and Johnson (1980). The results show that a leader in Ekegusii is conceptualized as a plant, animal, object or the behavior the leader exhibits (also act as X domains). It was also found out that context, values, attitude of the speaker and cultural knowledge play a major role in interpreting and understanding Ekegusii leader metaphors. The study concludes by suggesting further research of metaphors in African and other languages to enable comparisons.

Myth is a medium of understanding and inheriting cultural values that are believed by society in the past and also influences people’s mindsets in the present. In this study, myth is a reflection of social structures and social relations in which there are basic feelings commonly shared by human beings, such as love, , or revenge. This study aims to (1) describe the mythical myths Minahasa and (2) express the cultural meanings of the Minahasa people contained in Minahasa myths. The benefits of this study are in the form of disclosing the concepts of cultural meaning possessed by the Minahasa tribe so that they can broaden the horizons of thought about Minahasa society and culture. The method used in this study is the expository description method. Lévi-Strauss states that myths are formed by units of basic elements, in which the basic element units have a dual structural structure, namely historical and ahistorical at the same time whose elements are combined or connected to one another to produce meaning.

The article focuses on the system of developing linguistic and cultural competence through regional realities, values, personalities, etc. in general secondary educational institutions in the Republic of Belarus. The sociocultural aspect in the coherent linguistic methodological system of teaching Russian and developing learners’ speech is considered as a substantial component of all spheres - language, speech, communication, cultural linguistic study . Cultural linguistic (or linguocultural) aspect is realized through mastering language: 1) as a system of preserving and transmissing cultural values, 2) as a means of comprehending general and nationally-specific (for the Russian and Belarusian) ideals, traditions, customs, values and norms which guide the dialogue of cultures. As an interrelated educational process, the sociocultural aspect implies that students acquire the peculiarities of social relations expressed in meanings (peacefulness, non-aggressiveness, tendency to consent and search for compromises, helping another person, denying unmotivated violence, reasonable needs, etc.). The sociocultural aspect also means developing learners’ ability to comply with the norms that determine these relations.

This book explores the intersections of values and meanings in two types of replay: where video games meet classical music, and vice versa. From the bleeps and bloops of 1980s arcades to the world’s most prestigious concert halls, classical music and video games have a long history together. Medieval chant, classical symphonies, postminimalist film scores, and everything in between fill the soundtracks of many video games, while world-renowned orchestras frequently perform concerts of game music to sold-out audiences. Yet combining video games and classical music also presents a challenge to traditional cultural values around these media products. Classical music is frequently understood as high art, insulated from the whims of popular culture; video games, by contrast, are often regarded as pure entertainment, fundamentally incapable of crossing over into art. This study focused on finding out the cultural values in song lyrics Endeng- endeng of Mandailing society in North Labuhanbatu Regency. The objectives of this study were : (1) to find out the types of cultural values in song lyrics Endeng- endeng, (2) to find out the dominant types that used in song lyrics Endeng-endeng and (3) how the realization of the cultural values in wedding ceremony of Mandailing society in North Labuhanbatu Regency. This research was conducted by using descriptive qualitative design. There were 18 data of cultural values that were taken from song lyrics Endeng-endeng transcriptions. The findings of this research were : (1) There were nine cultural values of Batak that found in song lyrics Endeng-endeng, that contained kinship (16.7%), religion (16.7%), hagabeon (extended family)(11.1%), hasangapon (respect) (11.1%), hamoraon (wealth) (5.5%), hamajuon (modernization) (11.1%), patik dohot uhum (rules and laws) (11.1%), pangayoman (nurture) (5.5%) marsisarian (conflict) (11.1%). (2) The most dominant types of cultural value was kinship and religion (16.7%). (3) The realization of cultural values of song lyrics Endeng-endeng of Mandailing society in North Labuhanbatu Regency was described by interview the informants that understood about Endeng-endeng. The meanings in song lyrics Endeng- endeng were the advices for the groom that should be applied by them in their life after got marriage.

The purpose of the article is to substantiate the essence of paradigmaticity, to determine the basic paradigm dimensions of cultural comprehension of the phenomenon of personality. The methodology of research consists in the application of synergetic, axiological, cultural-hermeneutic approaches and analytical, semiotic, phenomenological methods to comprehend the personality as a subject of culture, capable of representing universal cultural meanings, values and ideals through various forms of creative practices, choosing a personal vector of creative self-realization. Scientific novelty of the work lies in the fact that for the first time in the problem field of cultural studies on the basis of paradigmatic as a sign of modern postnonclassical humanitarianism is justified paradigm dimensions of comprehension of personality, based on discursiveness, multiple intellectual forms of scientific knowledge, as well as interpretive variability of artistic thinking. In the context of culturological comprehension of personality as a cultural subject universal paradigm dimensions are defined: interscientific, humanitarian, subject-value, activity-creative. Conclusions. Interscientific paradigmal dimension allows to systematize the directions of evolution of scientific views on the phenomenon of personality from the position of different spheres of scientific knowledge. Through humanitarian paradigmatic dimension the person is presented as a creative personality within phenomenological hermeneutics; in the context of discursive technologies of personality self-projection, the possession of which becomes an important condition of its successful creative self-realization. The creative personality in the context of the subject-value dimension acts as a bearer of cultural values as the works of spiritual culture. Culturological research of personality in its basic - activity-creative paradigmatic dimension allows to consider the creative personality through creative activity, on the basis of which reincarnation of the personality himself into the subject of culturecreativity takes place.

<p>This study of 14 Australian immigrant mothers from Bangladesh, India and Pakistan, and their 12 children aged eight to 11 years, explores the interplay of cultural and social processes which might elevate the risk of obesity. Mothers and their children were asked in semi-structured, face-to-face interviews about changes in their diet and physical activities after immigration to Australia.</p> <p>Thematic analysis of these interviews showed a transformation in immigrant families’ diets and physical activities as they transitioned from their traditional lifestyles to an Australian pattern. Both mothers and their children recognised the problem—and causes—of obesity. However, different frames of reference—origin countries for mothers and Australian peers for children—resulted in generational disjuncture about healthy bodyweight and the strategies to achieve it. Mothers’ cultural values and low social status in origin countries, led them to struggle to adapt to new health behaviours. In contrast, their children wanted to look and act like their Australian peers, who valued slimness.</p> <p>Our findings reveal that the social status of food and activity reflects cultural meanings from both origin countries and Australia, creating contradictions and tensions for immigrants that public health campaigns will need to help them navigate.</p>
