This article describes a clinical case of Lawrence lipoatrophic diabetes patient who was born in 1963. The differential diagnosis with gipermuskulin lipodystrophy. Diagnostic criteria of Lawrence lipoatrophic diabetes were shown. They are specific patient’s appearance big changes in carbohydrate and lipid metabolism. The dynamics of the patient’s status on the background of symptomatic therapy was evaluated.

Necrobiosis lipoidica (syn.: skin disclipines, diabetic lipoid necrobiosis of Urbach, disease Oppenheim--Urbach, mottled atrophic necrobiosis diabetic dermatitis Oppenheim, pseudocertainty symmetrical chronic granulomatous disease Gottron, etc.) - is a chronic granulomatous disease characterized by multifactorial genesis in the background of immunological changes, disorders of carbohydrate and lipid metabolism and pathology of microcirculatory processes. This article presents a review of the current literature on the etiology and pathogenesis, clinical picture, classification, differential diagnosis of disease and on methods of conducting and treatment of patients.

We present a brief literature review on dirofilariasis and its incidence in Russia. The diagnosis and operative treatment of a patient with dirofilariasis caused by infection with Dirofilaria repens is described. The diagnostic criteria (epidemiological analysis, ultrasonographic, and laboratory-based and parasitological work-up) are presented. Ultrasonography plays an important role in the differential diagnosis of dirofilariasis and cavernous hemangiomas. Different non-surgical and surgical treatment approaches are discussed.

This article describes a clinical case of a filmy form of adenoviral epidemic keratoconjunctivitis (EKC) in an adult patient. The given case is interesting in that the onset of EKC did not foreshadow a complicated, hyperergic course of the filmy form in an adult patient. That ultimately led to cicatricial changes in the conjunctiva in the form of a partial external symblepharon. Alertness of ophthalmologists in relation to this form of EKC, which requires differential diagnosis, first of all, with true toxic diphtheria lesion of the conjunctiva, is necessary. Adequate complex antiviral treatment of EKC with the use of corticosteroids, immunomodulatory and symptomatic therapy helps to stop the process. Key words: adenovirus conjunctivitis, epidemic keratoconjunctivitis, membranous form, complicated course, partial simblefaron, dry eye syndrome.

Background: Thyroid hormones influence nearly all major metabolic pathways. Their most obvious and well-known action is the increase in basal energy expenditure obtained by acting on protein, carbohydrate and lipid metabolism. The lipid metabolism is more influenced by the thyroid hormone. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted on 100 patients with suspicion of thyroid disorders were taken as cases. One hundred patients with normal thyroid profile and no history of other chronic diseases were taken as control group. Results: The serum TC, TG and LDL levels in hypothyroid individuals (both overt and subclinical) were significantly higher than euthyroid subjects but the levels were comparable between hyperthyroid and euthyroid group. Conclusion: Dyslipidemias are associated with thyroid disorders, so biochemical screening for thyroid dysfunction in all dyslipidemic patients. Therefore, patients presenting with dyslipidemia are recommended for investigation to explore thyroid dysfunction. Keywords: Thyroid profile, Total cholesterol, Triglycerides and LDL

Acute disseminated encephalomyelitis (ADEM) is a rare immune-mediated inflammatory and demyelinating disorder of the central nervous system. Its characteristic perivenular demyelination and inflammation aid in the differential diagnosis with other inflammatory demyelinating diseases. Here, we present a clinical case of ADEM, summarize its histological hallmarks, and discuss pitfalls concerning the most important neuropathological differential diagnoses.
