Background Studies indicate that incivility is common in nursing education and perpetuated by both students and faculty. Academic incivility negatively affects the well-being of those involved, interferes with the teaching–learning process, and is antithetical to nursing as a caring profession. An understanding of academic incivility is essential to establish best practices to address this problem. Purpose The purpose of this study was to examine incivility in nursing academia from the perspective of baccalaureate nursing students. Methods The study was conducted using a cross-sectional design, with a mixed method questionnaire administered to 380 students. The quantitative data were analyzed descriptively and qualitative data through content analysis. Results The majority of students thought incivility is a mild to moderate problem in nursing education. They thought that students contribute to incivility by not taking responsibility (being unprepared and being disinterested) for their education and by not being professional (being disrespectful and being uncaring) and faculty contribute by not being good teachers (being authoritarian, treating students unfairly, having ineffective teaching methods) and not being professional (being disrespectful, lacking compassion). Conclusion Until evidence is available for effective measures to address incivility, nursing schools should consider adopting strategies for solutions as suggested by the students in this study.

Maternal mortality rate is higher in assisted childbirth rather than that of natural childbirth. The unresolved anxiety can cause childbirth to last longer and lead to assisted childbirth. Childbirth environment at the hospital can increase maternal anxiety which results in disturbing uterine contraction so that action should be taken to speed up the delivery process. The aim of this study was to determine the difference in anxiety level between mothers who give birth at the Public Health Center and those who give birth at Private Midwife Center. The study was conducted by cross-sectional design on 74 mothers in labor. They were divided into two groups: those who give birth at Public Health Center and those who give birth at Private Midwife Center with consecutive sampling technique.Data were then analyzed by conducting Independent T test. The result showed that the first group had higher average score of anxiety than the second group with p value < 0.05.The study suggested that there was significant difference between giving birth at Public Health Center and giving birth of Private Midwife Center

Background: Critical thinking is an imperative outcome of nursing education. However, several factors contribute to the development of critical being including critical thinking dispositions (CTDs). Objective: This study aimed to assess the critical thinking dispositions and factors affecting critical thinking dispositions of BScN students and their educators in twin city Rawalpindi and Islamabad, Pakistan. Methodology: A cross- sectional analytical design was used in this study. A consecutive sample of 215 BScN students and 63 educators participated in the study. Data were collected via Pakistan-Critical Thinking Dispositions Scale (P-CTDS) comprising 54 items under the seven constructs; responses were measured on 5-points Likert scale. Data were analyzed with SPSS version 22. Results: The findings showed that 52% of the educators were at the developed level of CTDs and nearly 48% at the developing level; whereas 76% students were inclined towards CTD and only 23% were found at the developed level of CTDs. Although with considerable difference in the scores of the 7 constructs, both, students and educators obtained highest scores on inquisitiveness and contextual perspective. Similarly, students and educators obtained low score on open-mindedness. The difference between students and their teachers was statistically significant for the total scores of CTDs as well as for the scores of six of seven constructs. Conclusion: Although educators exhibited stronger CTDs than their students, both have room for improvement, specifically their open mindedness. If educators are willing to challenge their personal assumptions, students will also emulate them.

Introduction: Clinical education is an essential element in a baccalaureate nursing program, providing nursing students with the required knowledge, skills, abilities, and attitudes that are required to deliver professional nursing care after graduation. Objective: The purpose of this study was to identify the student perceived challenges associated with nursing instruction in the clinical environment. Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive design was used to identify the challenges associated with clinical instruction from the nursing students’ perspective. Convenience sampling was used to recruit 187 nursing students from three universities in Jordan, including one public and two private. Results: The major challenges to clinical education were fear of committing mistakes; lack of facilities for students; lack of knowledge among community and patients about the nursing profession; fear of infection; lack of availability of equipment in the clinical setting; students’ lack of preparedness and skills in planning care; and lack of collaboration from clinical staff. Conclusion: Identifying the challenges is necessary to formulate strategies to address them, to improve curriculum designed and clinical education for nursing students accordingly.

Background: Measurements of nursing students’ cultural awareness are needed to evaluate education that intends to improve nurses’ cultural competency skills. The purpose of this study was to assess the level of cultural awareness held by undergraduate nursing students. Method: A nonexperimental, cross-sectional design was applied to a purposive sample of 149 undergraduate nursing students. Data were collected based on the Cultural Awareness Scale (CAS). Results: The results show that the nursing students had a moderately high level of cultural awareness for all CAS subscales ( M = 194.0). However, no statistically significant differences were seen between the students’ demographic (gender and age) and other data (year of study and religion) related to the overall CAS score ( p > .05). Discussion: Building on the satisfactory results obtained from this study, in the future, both the transcultural nursing contents as well as various strategies for teaching cultural competencies should be carefully evaluated.

Background: Knowledge, perception, and preventive behavior should be considered in the planning of effective educational interventions for the coronavirus disease of 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic and in increasing awareness about the health risks brought about by this disease. This research aimed to assess knowledge, perceptions, and preventive behavior toward the COVID-19 infection among student nurses. Methods: The study has quantitative, descriptive, and cross-sectional design. A convenience sample of 1,226 student nurses from seven universities in Saudi Arabia was surveyed from March 22 to April 4, 2020. A four-part online survey on demographic characteristics, perceptions, knowledge, and preventive behavior of Saudi student nurses was carried out. Results: Nearly all students were aware of the outbreak (99.2%), and most of them received information on COVID-19 primarily from social media (71.0%). Over three-fourths of the students were confident that the government (89.1%) and Ministry of Health (MOH) (86.5%) were doing a good job responding to the COVID-19 outbreak in the country. The overall average score in the knowledge questionnaire was 9.85 (SD = 1.62, range = 0–12), which is equivalent to 82.1%. The majority of the students always performed most of the preventive behavior identified in the survey, except “washing hands with soap and water for at least 20 s after blowing my nose, coughing, or sneezing” (39.2%) and “daily cleaning and disinfecting frequently touched surfaces” (41.6%). Being female, being in the fourth year, and gaining good perceived knowledge were associated with high actual COVID-19 knowledge. University, gender, age, academic level, and perceived COVID-19 knowledge were the associated factors. Conclusions: The findings of this study have provided baseline information on the current state of Saudi nursing students' perceptions, knowledge, and preventive behavior toward COVID-19 as the crisis is happening. The findings revealed some areas that should be focused on by nursing education, as well as health agencies, to ensure that the students have adequate knowledge and correct preventive behavior.

Introduction Errors are inevitable in medical practice and this issue has attracted the attention of healthcare systems worldwide. Therefore, it is of utmost importance to pay attention in educational systems. The present study aimed to investigate the frequency and cause of nursing students’ errors. Methods This descriptive study conducted based on a cross-sectional design. The researcher provided nursing students with a questionnaire. The participants were selected through a purposive sampling method. Eventually, the collected data were analyzed by SPSS17. Results The mean value of errors in students was 32.83 ± 28.5 and the prevalence rate of the errors ranged from 0 to 175. In total, 2922 errors were reported by the students, the most frequent of which were wearing the same pair of gloves for the care of more than one patient (2.61 ± 2.83), negligence to wash the hands (2.41 ± 2.95) and clean the thermometer before utilization (2.19 ± 4.68). Moreover, errors in oxygen therapy (0.69 ± 1.03) and medication (0.87) obtained the lowest frequency. Furthermore, most of the students’ errors were due to not having enough knowledge about medicines (2.1 ± 7.4), lack of appropriate equipment (2.6 ± 1.7), and poor clinical skills (2.1 ± 5.6). Discussion and conclusion: The most frequent nursing students’ errors are related to hand hygiene and personal protection. In addition, the lack of enough skills and appropriate equipment are prevalent causes of nursing students’ errors. Authorities in this field should attend to these errors in nursing education, clinical practice, and nursing studies in order to promote this profession in all of these three dimensions.
