<p><strong>Objective: </strong>The current research was designed to evaluate the cardioprotective activity of <em>Mentha longifolia</em> (ML) leaf extract on cyclophosphamide-induced cardiotoxicity in rats.</p><p><strong>Methods: </strong>Cardiotoxicity was induced in <em>Albino wistar</em> rats of either sex by administering a single injection of cyclophosphamide (200 mg/kg, i. p.) on the first day of the experimental period. <em>Mentha longifolia</em> (250 and 500 mg/kg, p. o.) was administered daily for 10 d immediately after administration of cyclophosphamide on the first day. The general observations such as oxidative marker enzyme assays, ECG and histopathology were examined.</p><p><strong>Results: </strong>Cyclophosphamide administration significantly (p&lt;0.05) increased lipid peroxidation (LPO) and decreased the levels of antioxidant markers such as superoxide dismutase (SOD) and catalase (CAT). Cyclophosphamide elevated the levels of biomarker enzymes like creatine kinase isoenzyme MB (CK-MB), creatine kinase isoenzyme NAC (CK-NAC) and lactate dehydrogenase (LDH). Further, the cyclophosphamide-treated rats showed changes in electrocardiographic parameters. Treatment with <em>Mentha longifolia</em> significantly (p&lt;0.05) reversed the status of cardiac biomarkers, ECG and oxidative enzymes in cyclophosphamide-induced cardiotoxicity. Histopathological examination was also supported the potential cardioprotective effect of <em>Mentha longifolia</em> with reduced damage to the myocardium.</p><p><strong>Conclusion: </strong>The biochemical, ECG and histopathology reports support the potential benefits of <em>Mentha longifolia</em> against myocardial damage which could be attributed to antioxidant activity.</p>

The present study was designed to evaluate the cardioprotective effect of sesamol against doxorubicin-induced cardiomyopathy in rats. In this study, the cardioprotective effect of sesamol against doxorubicin induced cardiomyopathy in experimental rats was evaluated at the dosage of 50 mg/kg bw. Doxorubicin was administered to rats at a total cumulative dose of 15 mg/kg through intraperitoneal route for 2 weeks in six-divided dose on 8th, 10th, 14th, 16th, 18th, and 21st day. After the last dose administration, the endogenous antioxidants and lipid peroxidation were estimated in heart tissue homogenate. Cardiac biomarkers such as troponin T, LDH, CK, and AST and lipid profiles such as cholesterol, triglycerides, HDL, LDL, and VLDL were estimated in serum. Sesamol has cardioprotective activity through normalization of doxorubicin-induced-altered biochemical parameters. Biochemical study was further supported by histopathological study, which shows that sesamol offered myocardial protection from necrotic damage. From these findings, it has been concluded that the sesamol has significant cardioprotection against doxorubicin induced cardiomyopathy via amelioration of oxidative stress, lipid lowering, and membrane stabilization effect.

Diabetes is a metabolic disorder and global health issue. It arises because of an absolute or relative insulin deficiency that causes hyperglycemia. The study aimed to assess the antihyperglycemic, hepatoprotective, and renal protective effects of ethanolic fruit extract of Moringa oleifera, on alloxan-induced diabetic mice. Four mice were assigned to each group.  Alloxan was injected at the dose of 10mg/kg/body weight intraperitoneally to make the diabetic model in mice. Control and diabetic control mice received drinking water as a placebo, while the diabetic model mice group was administered with ethanolic extract of moringa fruit at the dose of 150mg/kg/bodyweight for 12 weeks. After that, animals were sacrificed, and their blood and tissue samples were collected for biochemical and histopathological examination. The glucose level markedly (p<0.0001) increased many folds in Group I (80.73± 1.24 to 221.5±13.4) and Group II (80.73 ± 1.24 from to 221.9±6.88). The level of insulin markedly (P< 0.0001) decreased in both groups (6.8±0.42 to1.378±0.19) and (6.8±0.42 to1.138±0.08) respectively. Serum hepatic and renal marker enzymes increased in the diabetic group of mice. Glucose level was meaningfully (p<0.0001) decreased in the M. oleifera administered group while serum insulin level significantly (p<0.0001) increased. The level of liver marker enzyme and renal marker also decreased as compared to the diabetic control group. Histopathological study revealed that alloxan treatment caused damage to the liver, kidney, and pancreatic tissues while the M. oleifera administered group exhibited significant improvement in the architecture of the liver, kidney, and pancreas. Hence, M. oleifera has great potential to rejuvenate the damaged tissue and consequently can restore all the serum enzymatic and hormonal parameters.

Abstract We evaluated the clinical and analytical performance of the new immunochemiluminometric assay (ICMA; Ciba Corning) for measurement of creatine kinase isoenzyme MB (CK-MB), and compared it with three other methods: immunoradiometric assay (IRMA; International Immunoassay Labs); immunoinhibition assay (Seradyn); and an immunoinhibition/column method (Du Pont). Intra-test precision for all kits was good. We evaluated 32 patients' samples by all four methodologies. Only one of the four methods (aca, Du Pont) showed evidence of linearity. Efficiency in the diagnosis of myocardial injury in our study ranged from 53% (Seradyn) to 96% (Du Pont). We evaluated serial specimens from 20 separate patients by the IRMA and the ICMA to determine whether myocardial injury could be diagnosed earlier by the ICMA. In patients with acute myocardial infarction, the ICMA displayed positive values earlier and longer than the IRMA, suggesting that the ICMA is suited for screening for myocardial damage in hospitalized patients.

Background: A breast lump is the most common symptom associated with both benign and malignant breast diseases. Therefore, a distinction of benign from malignant lump is of importance for proper management. Though a definitive diagnosis is possible with imaging for all the lesions, histopathological study is proven essential for confirming the diagnosis. Objective: The objective of this study was to evaluate the role of USG and histopathological findings of different breast lump in diagnosis and their comparison. Methods: A prospective study was conducted over a period of one year from January 2017 to December 2017. A total of 116 patients were included in this study. All breast lumps underwent surgery and the ultrasound findings of these lumps were compared with the histopathological findings. Data were collected from these patients by a preformed questionnaire and finally the data were analyzed. Results: Out of 116 patients only 21 cases were reported as malignant in ultrasound report but histopathology revealed 31 malignant patients. On histopathological examination 10 benign cases turned out to be malignant. Conclusion: The present study was undertaken to evaluate in diagnosing breast mass lesions individually by ultrasound and compared with histopathology for definitive management of a patient. Statins are the first line treatment for the management of hyperlipidemia. However, the primary adverse effect limiting their use is myopathy. This study examines the efficacy and safety of red yeast rice (RYR), a source of natural statins, as compared with atorvastatin, which is the most widely used synthetic statin. Statin interference with the endogenous synthesis of coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) prompted the hypothesis that its deficiency may be implicated in the pathogenesis of statin-associated myopathy. Hence, the effects of combination of CoQ10 with either statin have been evaluated. Rats were rendered hyperlipidemic through feeding them a high-fat diet for 90 days, during the last 30 days of the diet they were treated daily with either atorvastatin, RYR, CoQ10, or combined regimens. Lipid profile, liver function tests, and creatine kinase were monitored after 15 and 30 days of drug treatments. Heart contents of CoQ9 and CoQ10 were assessed and histopathological examination of the liver and aortic wall was performed. RYR and CoQ10 had the advantage over atorvastatin in that they lower cholesterol without elevating creatine kinase, a hallmark of myopathy. RYR maintained normal levels of heart ubiquinones, which are essential components for energy production in muscles. In conclusion, RYR and CoQ10 may offer alternatives to overcome atorvastatin-associated myopathy.

In this study, it was aimed to investigate the protective effect of black seed oil against testicular tissue damage in diabetic rats. A total of 18 male rats were divided into 3 groups, including 6 rats in each group.Groups; control (n=6), diabetes (n=6), diabetes + black seed oil (n=6). A single dose of 45 mg / kg streptozocine (STZ) was injected intraperitoneally to induce diabetes. Diabetes + Black seed oil group: For 56 days, 2.5 ml / kg of black seed oil was administered orally to rats.The rats were sacriced at the end of 56 days. Testicular tissues were taken for routine parafn tissue processing for histopathological examination. Parafn sections were stained with Hematoxylin-Eosin and PAS and examined under a light microscope. Atrophy and degeneration were observed in the seminiferous tubules of diabetic group. Histology of black seed oil group sections were similar to that of control group. A signicant difference was found between the black seed oil group and the diabetes group in terms of blood glucose values. As a result, we think that Black Seed Oil ameliorates to the tissue damage caused by diabetes and the decrease in blood sugar value.
