Objective: The objective of present study was the development, characterization and evaluation of poly-herbal ointment formulation of pongamia glabra, piper nigrum and momordica charantia extract. Plant derived substances and herbal medicines have recently attracted the great interest towards their versatile application. Medicinal plants are the richest source of bioactive compounds used in traditional and modern medicine. The ointment formulation of plant extract has a sound approach to develop a poly-herbal ointment. The poly-herbal ointment formulation was evaluated for its physicochemical parameters like color, odor, pH, spreadability, extrudability, consistency, diffusibility, solubility, washability and stability. Materials and methods: Extract of all three plants has been separated by the soxhlet extraction. Poly-herbal ointment has been prepared by mixing the extract of momordica charantia, pongamia glabra and piper nigrum with wool fat, Cetostearyl alcohol and paraffin. Results and conclusion: Physicochemical evaluation shows that the poly-herbal ointment fulfilled the criteria as herbal formulation and irritancy test also performed indicate the effectiveness and efficacy of prepared ointment formulations. The poly-herbal ointment formulations were also evaluated for its stability at various temperature conditions which shows no change in the irritancy, spreadability and diffusion study. Thus it could become a medium to use the medicinal properties of extracts effectively and easily as a simple dosage form. Poly-herbal ointment and gel formulation has been prepared by mixing the extract of Nerium Indicum Mill, Artocarpus Heterophyllus Lam, Murraya Koenigii Linn, Punica Granatum Linn with carbapol 940 for Gel formulation and PEG 2000 & PEG 600 for ointment formulation. Results and conclusion: Physicochemical evaluation shows that the poly-herbal ointment and gel formulations fulfilled the criteria as herbal formulation and irritancy test also performed to indicate the effectiveness and efficacy of prepared ointment and gel formulations. Objective: The objective of present work was to evaluate wound healing potential of pongamia glabra, piper nigrum and momordica charantia using as herbal ointment formulation on albino rats using burn wound model.  All the plant has the rich source of alkaloid, glycoside, tannins, carbohydrates, saponins, flavonoids, proteins and amino acids content and were used as anti-diabetic, anti-inflammatory, antitumor, anti-malarial and having wound healing potential. Materials and Methods: Extract of all three plants has been separated by the Soxhlet extraction. Herbal ointment formulation has been prepared by mixing the extract of momordica charantia, pongamia glabra and piper nigrum with the wool fat and paraffin. Burn wound model has been utilized for the evaluation of wound healing potential. Histopathological evaluation has been also carried-out for the physical verification wound healing potential. Results and Conclusion: The studies on burn wound healing model reveals that all twelve groups showed decreased wound area on the time and there was no mortality observed in the course of study. Discussion: These studies have indicated that herbal ointment formulation of pongamia glabra, piper nigrum and momordica charantia has been utilized for wound healing and it is safer for topical application. Objective: The objective of present work was to evaluate the qualitative and quantitative assessment of momordica charantia, pongamia glabra and piper nigrum extract for the natural product present in them. These plants were having the rich source of alkaloid, glycoside, tannins, carbohydrates, saponins, flavonoids, proteins and amino acids and were used as anti-diabetic, anti-inflammatory, antitumor, anti-malarial and having wound healing potential. Materials and Methods: Extract of all three plants has been separated by the process of Soxhlet extraction. The extract of momordica charantia, pongamia glabra and piper nigrum evaluated for qualitative and quantitative measurement of alkaloid, glycoside, tannins, carbohydrates, saponins, flavonoids, proteins and amino acids content. Different solvent is used for the extraction of content includes petroleum ether, ethyl acetate, alcoholic and distilled water. Results and Conclusion: Preliminary Phytochemical screening was performed for extracts of Momordica charantia fruits (FMC), Pongamia glabra (LPG) and Piper nigrum fruits (FPN). Identification test on extracts was shown the sign of alkaloid, glycoside, tannins, carbohydrates, saponins, flavonoids, proteins and amino acids content. Discussion: All results indicates that extracts of Momordica charantia fruits (FMC), Pongamia glabra (LPG) and Piper nigrum fruits (FPN) having a rich source of Glycosides, alkaloid and flavonoid content. Plant derived substances and herbal medicines have recently attracted the great interest towards their versatile application, as medicinal plants used in traditional and modern medicine. The aim of the current study was to investigate the antioxidant activity of Ziziphus mauritiana leaves extract followed with the formulation of herbal creams based on ZM methanolic extract then evaluate the physical characteristic and stability of the creams. After the methanolic extract was obtained by using Soxhlet extraction, the extract was assessed for antioxidant activity by using stable 2,2- Diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) which showed the IC50 value of the ZM extract is 10.57 µg/ml, while IC50 value for ascorbic acid is 4.19 µg/ml. Four formulations of water in oil (w/o) emulsion based cream was formulated based on Ziziphus mauritiana leaves extract which are F1, F2, F3 and F4. Several physical properties were evaluated such as organoleptic, pH, viscosity, homogeneity, washability and emmolliency which proved that all formulations have good homogeneity, non greasy and under suitable pH and viscosity. Based on thermal stability test (45 °C ± 70 % RH, for 48 hours), it showed that F4 is not stable at high temperature compared to other formulations. Therefore, the present study indicated that the Ziziphus mauritiana leaves extract has great potential for personal care product development.


There has been global resurgence of interest in herbal drugs in the recent past. Although herbal medicines are very often efficient in treating different ailments, these medications are either unscientifically utilized or misused. Thus, in the light of modern medicine, these herbal drugs deserve thorough research. Medicinal properties consist of those plants that are used in treating and preventing specific and human has been using herbs for generations around the world, due to charm needed to cure the disease, many people have come to the conclusion that even chemical drugs their answers may already be sick of these medications may be harmful for health them in the future. Still, the use of plants as a source of medicine is very much important for human beings. Identify medicinal and how to use them is so important.

Traditional medicine in Indonesia has been known by the public before formal health services using modern medicine. Indonesia has many type of herbal plants which have medicinal properties including dadap (Erythrina orientalis). This study aims to utilized dadap herbal liniment by modifying heating in Vigin Cocanut Oil. The study conducted in the laboratory of Agricultural Product Processing using a Factorial Completely Randomized Design (CRD). The first factor is the addition of 250 ml (M1), 375 ml (m2), and 400 ml (M3) Virgin Cocanut Oil treatment. The second factor is the heating tim of 5 minutes (L1), 10 minutes (L2), and 15 minutes (L3). Observation variable consisted of yield, Specific gravity, and organoleptic test of aroma and colored. The result showed an average yield of 87.70-91.88%. The highest yield was found in the treatment of adding 400 ml Virgin Cocanut Oil and 15 minutes of heating time. The highest type of weight was found in the treatment of addition of 325 ml Virgin Cocanut Oil and 5 minutes heating time. Based on the organoleptic scent test, the everage penalist gives a like answer. Organoleptic colors of reudeuep herbal products is according to SNI number 06-23-2006.

Herbal medicines are in practice since time immortal. India has probably the oldest, richest and most diverse cul- tural traditions within the use of medicinal plants. Indians 3500 BC, Chinese 3000 BC and Egyptians 2500 BC knew the properties of medicinal plants. Medicinal plants' use is still a living tradition. This is supported by the fact that there exists around a million traditional, village-based carriers of herbal medicine traditions in the form of traditional birth attendants, visha voids, bonesetters, herbal healers and wandering monks. Tribal people who live in harmony with nature and the environment share an intimate relationship with the plants. Beneficial medicinal properties of plants have been used in some forms or the other by these tribal people and cures were effective without any harmful side effects. The medicinal plants come from categories of shrubs, herbs and trees. Various parts of these plants which are used include fruits, roots, leaves, flowers, seeds, extract etc. and are of immense use to mankind; they are a part of our daily lives, making us wealthy with the world's greatest treasure- Health. Medic- inal plants have served humankind, for hundreds of years and still, these plants are used traditionally to cure vari- ous diseases. Some of the selected plants of district Solan were analyzed for their medicinal use with the help of information gathered from local people. Autophagy is a biomolecular system known to play an important role in cell growth, development as well as defense mechanisms, and is also a physiological approach towards homeostasis maintenance. This phenomenon is an intermediary pathway in the pathogenesis and therapy of various disease types, and is currently a new treatment route in the medical world. Hence, it is necessary to deeply understand the regulations, to prepare a treatment strategy in the future. Conversely, there is a high utilization of drugs, in line with the numerous disease cases in the community. Some limited chemical forms have large but necessary side effects, including anticancer agents. The high incidence of resistance and polypharmacy has been implicated in adverse drug interactions, and exorbitant costs, thus the initiative to return back to natural means. Furthermore, herbal medicines have been used in treatments for thousands of years, prior to the discovery of modern medicine. The various types previously studied have been highly beneficial in various disease cases. This review on researches within the last 5 years identified some herbal research articles in the aspect of autophagy, which was then summarized in a table form. Meanwhile, autophagy has been used for cancer therapy, and many plants have the potential to be therapeutic for various diseases through this pathway. Herbal telah digunakan sebagai pengobatan selama ribuan tahun sebelum pengobatan modern ditemukan. Berbagai jenis herbal telah dipelajari dan memiliki manfaat yang baik dalam berbagai kasus penyakit di masyarakat. Pada artikel review ini, ditelaah artikel-artikel penelitian herbal yang mengambil jalur autofagi dan hasilnya dirangkum dalam bentuk tabel. Studi yang dilakukan dalam kurun waktu 5 tahun terakhir dimasukkan dalam review ini. Sampai sekarang, autofagi telah lebih banyak digunakan untuk terapi kanker dibandingkan yang tanpa kanker. Banyak tanaman herbal yang memiliki potensi untuk menjadi terapi berbagai jenis penyakit melalui jalur autofagi. Pengetahuan tentang autofagi menambah dimensi baru pada pengobatan herbal dan dapat diterapkan dalam industri farmasi.Kata kunci: Autofagi, gangguan metabolisme, gangguan saraf, herbal, kanker, kerusakan hati
