Pau-Pau Rikadonna I Daramatasia (PRID) is a very popular story and has an important position in the lives of Bugis people in South Sulawesi as well as in other region. In the script form, the story has three versions: Bone, Barru, and Pangkep. Not only being written in script form, the story is also staged in short films, picture stories, dances, and others. This article aims to understand the meaning for the Bugis' collective awareness of PRID stories. To reveal the meaning, Bone version of PRID will be used with considering the whole story. Bone's PRID is also unique because it has some additions of episodes at the beginning and at the end of the story that become the focus of this article analysis. In understanding the meaning contained in the PRID, Levi Strauss's theory of structuralism will be used by building binary opposition to the depth structure of the text. Based on the analysis conducted, the addition of episodes contained in the PRID version of Bone is closely related to the cultural value of siriq na pesse (honor and solidarity) which is opposing sharia values. This can be interpreted as an effort by the Bugis to reconcile the two values so that PRID is well thanked and appreciated until now as can be seen in Youtube contents.

The main of this article to be expressed are Cultural Values and the Religiosity Behind the Skills (Kepanritaan) of Pinisi Boat Making in a very well-known community of boat makers in Ara, Bira and Tanalemo Villages, Bontobahari District, Bulukumba Regency, South Sulawesi. This research uses the verstehen method (Weber in Ritzer and Goodman, 2004 and Kaelan, 2005) on Pinisi Boat Making Activities and Changes from the beginning to the era of shipping modernization. The data was collected by combining comprehensive data collection techniques (observation, in-depth interviews, documentation, and triangulation: Sugiyono, 2007) and analyzed using interpretive post positivistic qualitative descriptive analysis method (with systemic complementary analysis procedures: Data Collection), Grouping, Categorization, and Discarding Insignificant Data (Data Reduction), Mapping Data on Causality between Data Categorization, and Conclusion: Miles and Huberman, 1995). The results of the research show that the professionalism in making pinisi boats is built on the basis of assessment with the underlying occult values. A cultural value that tends to be ecologically oriented in the sense of keeping the relationship harmonious with the natural ruler in a magical way. These values tend to weaken amid the development of shipping modernization and the development of the boat-making industry.

Abstract. The Construction of Ancient Java Community Towards Transgender Women in The 9th-14th Centuries. Transwomen in Indonesia are easily recognized by one's physical appearance. The survey stated that 89.3% of LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender) groups have experienced discrimination and violence. The views of the Indonesian people towards transgender women today are influenced by the perspectives and constructions of society in the past. This paper is to reconstruct how the perspective of the ancient Javanese society towards trans women. Thepurpose of this research is to find the origin of the current Indonesian people's view of transgender women from past references. This study uses a descriptive analysis approach through the stages of data collection, analysis, and interpretation. It can be seen that the construction of society during the Javanese era considered transgender people as a group of people with disabilities. In addition to these constructions, for the royal group, trans women are part of the king's servants who have magical and political powers. Thus, trans women had an important position and privileges in the ancient Javanese kingdom. The position of transgender women can also be understood as an archipelago tradition, which places transwomen as a link between the human world and the world of gods, as can be found in bissu in South Sulawesi.

One of the community groups in South Sulawesi Province, to be precise in Benteng Hamlet, Tana Toa Village, Kajang District, Bulukumba Regency is known as the Ammatoa community. This community is unique compared to other community groups in Bulukumba Regency, which always appears in black traditional clothes. Of course, this phenomenon raises academic questions as to why the Ammatoa community always appears in traditional black clothes. In fact, apart from always appearing in black, the Ammatoa community also has a white identity color, especially in “pacaka pute” (knee-length pants). However, this paper only focuses on black representations. This paper aims to examine the hidden dimension behind the black representation of the Ammatoa community in Bulukumba Regency, South Sulawesi. To analyze the cultural dimension in question, the semiotic theory of culture is used. Data were collected by means of participatory observation and interviews. The participatory observation method is carried out by directly observing the attitudes and patterns of daily life actions of the Ammatoa community. The interview method was carried out by interviewing the customary leader and several other community members about the cultural system or cultural value that underlies the appearance of the all-black clothing. Both methods are accompanied by audiovisual recording and note-taking techniques. Data were analyzed qualitatively - interpretatively. The results showed that the representation of black in the traditional clothing of the Ammatoa community has a symbolic meaning: (1) human life eventually becomes 'dark'; (2) the attitude of “sabbarak” (patient) , “gattang” (firm), “lambusuk” (honest), and  “pisona” (surrender); (3) “tallasak kamase-mase ri lino” ('living unpretentiously in the world) and “kalumannyang kalupepeang allo ri boko” (rich in the afterlife), “inne lino pammari-mariangji” (this world is just a stopover), “akherak pammantang karakkang” (afterlife is an eternal place) . This concept is embedded in the oral folklore “pasang ri Kajang” 'messages (rules / norms) for the Kajang community'. In addition, there are pairs of signs of opposition (binnery opposotion), namely “pute”' (white) x “lekleng” (black / dark); “ammumba” (rising) x “sakra” (setting); “kamase-mase” (unpretentious) x “kalumannyang” (rich); “singarak” (light) x “sassang” (dark); “lino” ('world) 'x “akherak” (afterlife); “tallasak” (alive) x “mate” (dead).

Brocade has a very important position in the life of ethnic minorities. It is the crystallized value of traditional craft quintessence and is the most characteristic material manifestation of ethnic culture. In particular, the cultural value of brocade is a key element to create the traditional culture of the Vietnamese ethnic groups. At the level of practical life, brocade plays a key role in the clothing associated with daily life. At a higher level, brocade is the characteristic of identifying and distinguishing ethnic groups. Through specific motifs and patterns on costumes made from brocade materials, ethnic nuances are expressed as well as showing the impact of cultural exchanges and transformation between different ethnic groups. The fourth industrial revolution (or industrial revolution 4.0),which is taking place in many developed countries, also has a positive two-way impact and limitations on traditional brocade cultural values of Vietnamese ethnic minorities. The urgent problem is that, how to maintain the unique characteristics of traditional methods and keep the cultural content in products, and apply the achievements of science and technology to shorten the work power and production time? The article analyzes solutions to solve part of the urgent problem that is posed.

This case study examines and illustrates within country regional cultural differences and cross border cultural similarities across four western European countries. Drawing on the data from the World Values Survey (WVS), we refer to the Schwartz Cultural Values Inventory in the survey. The demographic variables of age, gender, education level, marital status and income vary across the regions and hence, have significant effects on the cultural value dimensions across regions. The findings help a better understanding of the homogeneity and heterogeneity of regions withinand across countries. Both researchers and managers will have to justify their sampling methods and generalisations more carefully when drawing conclusions for a whole country. This case study underlines the limited knowledge about regional within country cultural differences, while also illustrating the simplification of treating each country as culturally homogeneous. Cross-country business strategies connecting transnational regional markets based on cultural value characteristics need to take these similarities and differences into account when designating business plans.
