The widespread prevalence of COVID-19 pandemic has affected academia and parents alike. Due to the sudden closure of schools, students are missing social interaction which is vital for better learning and grooming while most schools have started online classes. This has become a tough routine for the parents working online at home since they have to ensure their children’s education. The study presented was designed to explore the experiences of home learning in times of COVID-19. A descriptive qualitative study was planned to explore the experiences of parents about home learning and management during COVID-19 to get an insight into real-life experiences. Purposive sampling technique was used for data collection. Data were collected from 19 parents falling in the inclusion criteria. Considering the lockdown problem, the data were collected via Google docs form with open-ended questions related to COVID-19 and home learning. Three major themes emerged after the data analysis: impact of COVID on children learning; support given by schools; and strategies used by caregivers at home to support learning. It was analyzed that the entire nation and academicians around the world have come forward to support learning at home offering a wide range of free online avenues to support parents to facilitate home-learning. Furthermore, parents too have adapted quickly to address the learning gap that have emerged in their children’s learning in these challenging times. Measures should be adopted to provide essential learning skills to children at home. Centralized data dashboards and educational technology may be used to keep the students, parents and schools updated.

Resource allocation in the presence of constraints is an important activity in many systems engineering problems such as surveillance, infrastructure planning, environmental monitoring, and cooperative task performance. The resources in many important problems are agents such as a person, machine, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), infrastructures, and software. Effective execution of a given task is highly correlated with effective allocation of resources to execute the task. An important class of resource allocation problem in the presence of limited resources is static coverage problem. In static coverage problems, it is necessary to allocate resources (stationary configuration of agents) to cover an area of interest so that an event or spatial property of the area can be detected or monitored with high probability. In this paper, we outline a novel sampling algorithm for the static coverage problem in presence of probabilistic resource intensity allocation maps (RIAMs). The key intuition behind our sampling approach is to use the finite number of samples to generate an accurate representation of RIAM. The outlined sampling technique is based on an optimization framework that approximates the RIAM with piecewise linear surfaces on the Delaunay triangles and optimizes the sample placement locations to decrease the difference between the probability distribution and Delaunay triangle surface. Numerical results demonstrate that the algorithm is robust to the initial sample point locations and has superior performance in a wide range of theoretical problems and real-life applications. In a real-life application setting, we demonstrate the efficacy of the proposed algorithm to predict the position of wind stations for monitoring wind speeds across the U.S. The algorithm is also used to give recommendations on the placement of police cars in San Francisco and weather buoys in Pacific Ocean.

COVID19 pandemic has compelled educational institutions to re-navigate their learning modalities to that of fully online learning, thus, generating a totally new experience for teachers and learners who are novices in the flexible or blended learning. This study, therefore, attempted to explore the students’ experiences of online learning in time of COVID19 via in-depth quantitative method. A total of 171 students from secondary, tertiary, to graduate levels engaged in online learning were selected as participants using purposive sampling technique. The researchers-made questionnaire focusing on students’ satisfaction and dissatisfaction with online learning, as well as their desired improvement, was distributed online to these students from which responses were collected. Based on the results, the most common environment and methods for participating classes were student homes and mobile phones (touchscreen/android). Students indicated that they are satisfied with the following features of online classes: selecting a quiet place for online learning, quality classes at home, and being with the family at home while doing online learning. In contrast, students are dissatisfied about the internet connectivity, not getting full attention from teachers, and have difficulty in sharing ideas. Areas that need improvement according to the students were closely related to the causes of complaints, such as improving network connectivity, microphone and sound quality, and smooth communication during online classes. These findings imply that students’ educational environments are important and the quality of interactions can vary depending on the teachers and technology used. This study recommends that an improved and effective online learning system, maintaining academic achievement similar to traditional classroom teaching can be designed in preparation for any possible future crisis like COVID19.

The COVID-19 pandemic disease spreading around the world, including Indonesia, makes changes in lifestyle. Stay at home is a jargon to break the chain of virus transmission by working from home, learning at home, and praying at home. All activities are mostly done online and virtually. It certainly becomes the competitive market for the industry of media providing the services for, at least, those three activities when staying at home. In the critical paradigm area, this study discusses how ‘stay at home’ experiences the commodification and it changes into a market for the industry of media related to technology, service provider, application, and advertisement. The findings related to the level of share capitalism and high supply and demand were presented in a descriptive qualitative method. The commodification of stay at home changes the behavior pattern of people who are staying at home related to both relations and interaction, consumption patterns, and the changing needs. The nature of stay at home in people’s lives as the center of life realization, the center of cultural activity, a place for interacting with each other, in the scope of family or community, has changed into a market. Stay at home as a place to communicate people’s necessities starting from the cultural aspect, social, economy, and psychology has changed in a digital home with a virtual theme.

Abrupt closure of educational institutions due to COVID pandemic had created historical impact on educational system all over the world, the situation had been more challenging in undergraduate medical teaching. Moving smoothly from an environment of conventional education to virtual platform could not happen overnight. The current paper presents results of a cross-sectional study conducted from 13th July to 20th July, 2020 on MBBS students of Chattagram International Medical College, a non-Government Medical College of Bangladesh, exploring students’ views on online classes. A total of 217 students participated in the study, the response rate of survey was 87%. Among pre-clinical students, 47.6% ±1.1% and among clinical students 48.3% ±0.8% ‘sometimes’ felt interested in the class. Though majority of both pre-clinical and clinical students mentioned having appropriate device; there had been a wide range of variations in responses regarding their own internet connectivity. The most striking finding came out with the question if online class would be felt as a good substitute of ‘face-to-face’ class; it was ‘never’ response in more than 70% students in both pre-clinical and clinical groups. To take challenge of creating real-life picture in online class, there is necessity of a shift of traditional ‘lecture-based ’classes to more interactive, simulation-based classes; specially for clinical students. Institutional support needs to be strengthened for ensuring sound and visibility during the classes. Bangladesh Journal of Medical Education Vol.11(2) 2020: 3-13

Learning at home is aimed at restricting the spread and rate of the Covid-19 virus. Learning at home has caused various problems for the students and parents. Some subjects could not be understood well by the students. The hope of the students being assisted by their parents could not also be realized since the parents did not understand the learning materials that should be learned by the students at home. This problem was overcome by the team with learning assistance at home. The goal of learning assistance at home was assisting the students to understand learning materials and finishing the assignments from the teachers during learning from home. Learning assistance at home was conducted with a direct method to be conducted at home in Songan Village to support additional learning sessions for the subjects that are not understood yet. This community service in form of learning assistance has positively contributed to the students in Songan Village. Both the students and parents were happy to get this learning assistance since they were helped to understand the learning materials from learning at home independently. Keywords: elementary school; learning assistance; covid-19
