In order to determine the content of certain tissues in retail (main) cuts of young cattle carcasses, dissection of 30 carcass sides from young cattle was performed. Average weight of carcass sides was 169 kg. Average share of meat (approx. 86%) in carcass parts of the 1st category (leg), in carcass parts of the 2nd category (loin, back, shoulder) approx. 78%, and in carcass parts of the 3rd category (neck, subshoulder, foreshank, breast, ribs, belly, leg) approx. 73% was determined. Share (average) of bones in carcass parts of the 1st category was approx. 11%, 2nd category approx. 18%, and 3rd category approx. 20%. Share (average) of fat in carcass parts of the 1st category was approx. 2,0%, 2nd category approx. 3,5%, and 3rd category approx. 5,5%. Average share of binding tissue in carcass parts of the 1st category was approx. 0,3%, 2nd category approx. 0,7% and 3rd category approx. 1,5%. .

The aim of the present study was focused on analysis of reproductive traits in the painted stork (Mycteria leucocephala). The analysis of partial reproductive traits was intended to complete the knowledge necessary for ensuring reproduction of the painted stork in captivity on the required level. The observation was performed in the Zoo Zlín – Lešná from 2011 to 2014. The eggs were measured and weighed after laying and then in several‑day intervals. Other observed traits were hatchability of the eggs, number of raised young birds and their weight after hatching. During whole observation period, a total of 90 eggs of the painted stork were evaluated from 12 parental pairs. The average share of fertilized eggs was 38.9 %. Average length of eggs was 68.57 mm, average width was 46.43 mm and average weight was 79.79 g. Average weight loss of eggs during their incubation was 9.87 g. Average hatchability of all the laid eggs was 27.8 %. Average hatchability of the fertilized eggs was 71.4 %. A total of 23 young painted storks were hatched during the observation period. Their average hatching weight was 57.04 g. The overall number of 11 individuals were raised during the four years of observation.

Czech hop varieties were evaluated as part of maintenance breeding. The evaluation was performed in a single location between 2011 and 2020. The average weight of hop essential oils (HEOs) is 0.43 to 2.28% w/w. The Saaz, Saaz Brilliant, Mimosa, Saaz Shine and Saaz Comfort hop varieties have a low amount of HEOs. Their maximum content of these compounds amounts to 1.1% w/w. The average proportion of myrcene is between 23.42 and 45.14% rel. Only the Agnus, Vital and Boomerang hop varieties have the maximum myrcene proportion above 50% rel. The average share of caryophyllene ranges between 6.19 and 13.15% rel. Saaz Late has a broad range of caryophyllene percentage – from 5.39% rel. to 15.53% rel. The average percenatge of farnesene is between 0.14 and 16.91% rel. Only the Saaz Comfort and Saaz Shine hop varieties have the maximum farnesene share above 20% rel. The average humulene content has a very broad range between 2.23 and 35.79% rel. The Vital, Mimosa, Gaia and Saaz Comfort hop varieties are in a group with a low humulene percentage, which is clearly different from other hop varieties. The average share of selinenes ranges broadly from 0.97 to 33.56% rel. Mimosa differs from the before mentioned varieties with its proportion of selinenes between 23.08 and 43.75% rel. The aim was to characterize and compare Czech hop varieties in terms of content and composition of HEOs.

The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of nutritional management during rearing and finishing phases on beef fatty acid composition, and carcass and beef quality traits of Hereford cattle. The study used 240 castrated male calves weaned at 8 months of age, and with an average weight of 170 ± 17 kg. After weaning, the experiment was divided in to three phases in a 4 × 2 factorial design: a 93-day winter period with four treatment groups (on pasture or in feedlot and at high or low feeding levels); a 196-day compensatory-growth phase on pasture; and a finishing phase either on pasture or in feedlot. Animals were slaughtered when each group attained a mean liveweight of 500 kg. The winter growth × finishing management interaction significantly affected hot carcass weight (P = 0.0029). There was no differences observed for feedlot-finished steers, but for pasture-finished steers, those pasture-reared had higher hot carcass weight (kg) than those feedlot-reared (low pasture 256.30 ± 1.60, high pasture 253.72 ± 1.60, low feedlot 249.85 ± 1.66, high feedlot 247.60 ± 1.62). Feedlot-finished steers showed higher (P < 0.05) mean values than pasture-finished steers for ribeye area (55.61 ± 0.69 cm2 vs 53.18 cm2), backfat thickness (8.62 ± 0.32 mm vs 6.21 mm), marbling score (237.97 ± 13.06 vs 171.70) and final pH (5.53 ± 0.02 vs 5.48). Additionally, feedlot-finished steers raised in feedlot during the winter-growth period displayed the heaviest hindquarter cuts. Meat from pasture-finished steers had lower (P < 0.05) shear-force values than from feedlot-finished cattle (2.95 ± 0.18 vs 3.66 ± 0.17 kg), and when reared on either high or low pasture during winter-growth, they showed the highest (P < 0.05) conjugated linoleic acid (cis-9, trans-11) and n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acid concentrations. In conclusion, growing and finishing cattle on pasture improved the carcass yield of retail cuts because of low fat concentration, and improved the nutritional and health value of the beef fatty acid profile.

Anesthesia for laboratory animals is a matter of biomedical concern and one of the most present dilemmas in the current bioethical debate. The use of anesthetic agents in experimental surgery aims at analgesia and restraining the animal, in order to achieve a reasonable degree of muscle relaxation and to produce sufficient analgesia. This practice requires the use of protocols for the administration of safe and efficient doses. Eight New Zealand rabbits were submitted to laparotomies demonstrating the surgical technique discipline of the local medical course. For pre-anesthetic medication, acepromazine 1 mg.kg-1 associated with ketamine 15 mg.kg-1 was used subcutaneously. Anesthesia was maintained with isoflurane and oxygen under a laryngeal mask in a Mapleson D anesthesia system and under spontaneous breathing. Hydration was performed with 10 ml.kg-1 saline every hour. A thermal mattress was used. Precordial stethoscope, pulse oximetry and clinical parameters were used for monitoring. For euthanasia, ketamine 10 mg.kg-1 associated with potassium chloride 19.1% 1 ml.kg-1 was used intravenously. The average weight of the rabbits was 2721.25 ± 275.01 grams and the duration of the anesthetic procedure was 120 ± 87 minutes. Discussion. In long-term anesthesia, such as laparotomies, the use of pre-anesthetic medication and then anesthetic induction by the combination of agents is recommended. However, anesthetic management requires monitoring to prevent insufficient or excessive doses from occurring.

Broccoli (Brassica oleracea var. italica), a popular vegetable crop, has one of the most exacting climatic and cultural requirements, which limit its commercial production to a few favored locations. A field experiment was conducted at Mizoram University, Tanhril, Mizoram during winter of 2013/2014 to find out the effect of time of sowing on plant performance and yield of broccoli. Six sowing time was done viz. 17 October (T1), 24 October (T2), 31 October (T3), 7 November (T4), 14 November (T5) and 21 November (T6) with plant spacing of 45cm x 45cm. Yield and yield contributing characters were significantly influenced by the planting time. Highest average weight of marketable curd per plant (199.20 g) was obtained from T2, whereas lowest average weight obtained from T6 (75 g). The influence of planting time also showed significant difference on the calculated yield (tonnes per hectare) of broccoli, in which T2 showed highest marketable yield of 9.83 t/ha.

Statistical data of livestock for 30 years is reflected in the article. Author used the materials of the state veterinary reporting. A comparative analysis of the number, incidence and death rate of adult animals and young cattle for two five-year periods (2001-2005 and 2014-2018). the data of the analysis of veterinary statistical reports for 2018 on the specific weight of the large horned cattle and age dynamics of calves in farms of the Vologda region are shown. A significant decrease in livestock of the large horned cattle by 56.3% (from 1990 to 2018) is shown in the analysis of the data. Over the five years 2014-2018, there was a decrease in the number of the large horned cattle by 31.3%, the birth rate of calves - by 26.2%, and the incidence of calves - by 12.3% and the mortality rate decreased by 3.3%. Despite the decline in the number of livestock, in 2018 there is a high incidence of animal diseases (49.6%). The highest incidence rate was observed among calves under 10 days of age 43.3%, 31.7% - from 11 to 30 days, 15.8% - from one to three months, 6.5% - from three to six months and 2.7% - from 6 to 12 months. Of the total number of sick calves in 2018, 63.2% had gastrointestinal diseases, and death for this reason is 49.6% of the total number of victims. Respiratory diseases affect 21.8% of young animals, and death due to respiratory diseases is 18.2%. Analysis of statistical data showed that, despite the complex of veterinary and sanitary measures, the incidence and death of calves remain at a high level. This can be explained by delayed diagnosis and low therapeutic effectiveness in gastrointestinal and respiratory diseases of cattle.

Дана информация об изучении коллекции гибридов F1томата (Solanum lycopersicum L.) зарубежной селекции различных фирм-оригинаторов, рекомендованных производителями семян как толерантные к вирусу желтой курчавости листьев томата. Все гибриды обладали комплексом хозяйственно ценных признаков и набором генов устойчивости к основным заболеваниям томата, в том числе к новому для юга России опасному патогену с максимальным потенциальным риском – вирусу желтой курчавости листьев томата (Tomato yellow leaf curl virus — TYLCV). Исследования проведены в 2017-2018 годах в лаборатории пасленовых культур ООО «НИИСОК» и в лаборатории молекулярной диагностики растений ООО «Семеновод». Всего было протестировано 34 гибрида F1 томата. Гибриды оценивали по совокупности хозяйственно ценных признаков, также проводили молекулярно-генетический анализ на наличие и аллельное состояние основных генов устойчивости: к вирусу табачной мозаики (Tm2а), фузариозному увяданию (I2), вертициллезному увяданию (Ve), к кладоспориозу (Cf9), нематодам (Mi1.2), вирусу бронзовости томата (Sw5), вирусу желтой курчавости листьев томата (Ty3a). Установлено, что все проанализированные гибриды томата с заявленной оригинаторами семян устойчивостью к вирусу желтой курчавости листьев были гетерозиготны по гену Ty3a. На основании проведенных исследований и с учетом требований рынка разработаны модели гибридов F1 томата юга России. Перспективный гибрид томата должен обладать индетерминантным типом роста с укороченными междоузлиями (4,5-5 см) а также хорошей облиственностью. Плоды томата должны быть с красной равномерной окраской без зеленого пятна у плодоножки, с плоскоокруглой или округлой формой плода и со средней массой 220-270 г. Для повышения транспортабельности томатов необходимо, чтобы плоды отличались высокой прочностью и характеризовались хорошей лежкостью. Урожайность гибрида томата должна быть более 30 кг/м2, а товарность - не менее 85%. Гибрид томата должен обладать следующим набором генов устойчивости в гетерозиготном состоянии: Ty3a, Mi1.2, Cf-9, а также в гомозиготном состоянии: Tm2a, I2, Ve. The article provides information on the study of the collection of F1 tomato hybrids (Solanum lycopersicumL.) of foreign breeding from various firms-originators recommended for cultivation in regions with a strong spread of tomato yellow leaf curl virus. All hybrids had a complex of economically valuable traits and a set of genes for resistance to the main diseases of tomato, including a new dangerous pathogen for the South of Russia with a maximum potential risk — the tomato yellow leaf curl virus (TYLCV). The studies were carried out in 2017-2018 in the Solanaceae Laboratory of LLC NIISOK and in the Molecular Diagnostics Laboratory of Plants of LLC Semenovod. A total of 34 F1 tomato hybrids were tested. The hybrids were assessed by a set of economically valuable traits. Molecular genetic analysis was also carried out for the presence and allelic state of the main resistance genes: Tomato mosaic virus (Tm2a), Fusarium wilt (I2), Werticillium wilt (Ve), Cladosporium fulvum (Cf9), Nematodes (Mi1.2), Tomato spotted wilt virus (Sw5), Tomato yellow leaf curl virus (Ty3a). It was found that all the analyzed tomato hybrids with the declared by seed originators resistance to yellow leaf curl virus were heterozygous for the Ty3a gene. Based on the conducted research and taking into account the market requirements, models of F1 tomato hybrids for protected ground for the South of Russia have been developed. A promising tomato hybrid should have an indeterminate growth type with shortened internodes (4.5-5 cm) and good foliage. Tomato fruits should have a uniform red color without green shoulders, with a flat-round or round shape of the fruit and with an average weight of 220-270 g. To increase the transportability of tomatoes, it is necessary that the fruits are highly firm and characterized by good shelf life. The yield of tomato hybrid should be more than 30 kg/m2, and marketability should be at least 85%. The tomato hybrid should have the following set of resistance genes in a heterozygous state: Ty3a, Mi1.2, Cf-9, and also in a homozygous state: Tm2a, I2, Ve.
