This article relates to an international workshop on comparative education at the Catholic University of Leuven, Belgium, in October 2002. The workshop was prepared, organized and managed by Shenyang Normal University, China and KUL. The main theme was Comparative Education between East Asia and Western Europe, and most participants from Western Europe showed a keen interest in the relationship between globalization and the newly emerging ethno-centered nationalism. On the other hand, most Chinese delegates from Shenyang, an expanding city in the northeast of China, were concerned with the urgent tasks of development of quality education and some crucial issues thereof, such as teacher education innovation, examination reforms, curriculum development, lifelong learning and so forth. What was common to all participants was an increasing interest in the expanding knowledge society as a whole.

The authors of this article consider the relationship in European prehistory between the procurement of high-quality stones (for axeheads, daggers, and other tools) on the one hand, and the early mining, crafting, and deposition of copper on the other. The data consist of radiocarbon dates for the exploitation of stone quarries, flint mines, and copper mines, and of information regarding the frequency through time of jade axeheads and copper artefacts. By adopting a broad perspective, spanning much of central-western Europe from 5500 to 2000 bc, they identify a general pattern in which the circulation of the first copper artefacts was associated with a decline in specialized stone quarrying. The latter re-emerged in certain regions when copper use decreased, before declining more permanently in the Bell Beaker phase, once copper became more generally available. Regional variations reflect the degrees of connectivity among overlapping copper exchange networks. The patterns revealed are in keeping with previous understandings, refine them through quantification and demonstrate their cyclical nature, with additional reference to likely local demographic trajectories.

The subject of this article is a court case between Aumeisteri nobleman Berhard Magnus von Wulf (1732–1784) and the minister of Palsmane and Aumeisteri parishes Friedrich Daniel Wahr (1749–1827) about the suspension of the minister from his duties from 1775 to 1779. The aim of the research is to approach the court case as evidence of the different opinions of several social groups where extreme colonial ideas in Vidzeme meet Enlightenment ideas from Western Europe. At the same time, the court case is a source of contextual information for a better understanding of the development of Wahr’s literary and folkloristic heritage. The research is based on studies of documents found in the Latvian State History Archive that are approached using the culture-historical and comparative methods, thus trying to contextualize certain events in a specific place and time. The results of the research show the Palsmane and Aumeisteri society as typical of the second part of the 18th century. The existence of specific social groups, particularism, and the implementation of colonial attitudes by the local nobility are also evident. The attitude of Wahr towards Latvian peasants shows the influence of Enlightenment, especially his efforts in education. The relationship between the parish and its minister incorporates evidence of a syncretic praxis with pagan and Christian traditions. In the light of political events of that particular time, i. e. peasant rebels in Vidzeme, the court case allows Wulf’s accusations to be treated as an opportunity to decrease the implementation of Enlightenment ideas, thus safeguarding the local nobility’s power. At the same time, the court case is a source of biographic, private, and daily life details. The broad range of the parish territory which was often challenging to navigate, the modest means of the minister, and distancing of the local nobility on the one hand, along with the influence of enlightenment ideas, on the other hand, are the most probable grounding for Wahr’s folkloristic and literary work.

SUMMARYWinter hardiness of wheat is a complex trait involving a system of structural, regulatory and developmental genes, which interact in a complex pathway. The objective of the present work was to study the relationship among the main traits determining the level of adaptation and the possibility for target manipulation of breeding material by using molecular markers and phenological parameters. Wheat cultivars from different ecoclimatic environments of Europe were included for analysis. Gene-specific assay showed that photoperiod sensitivity of the studied cultivars was determined by polymorphism in the Ppd-D1 allele. The study established the relationship among winter hardiness, LT50 (the temperature at which 50% of plants are killed), photoperiod sensitivity, vernalization duration and earliness per se genes in the environment of Lithuania. The cultivars from Northern and Western Europe exhibited stronger requirement for vernalization and photoperiod. Although the group of cultivars from the southern latitudes were characterized by earliness, they possessed a stronger level of LT50. The level of LT50 was found to be the most crucial component of winter hardiness, the other traits served as supplementary components.

The analysis of possibilities of dialogue as the prerequisite for social and religious pluralism based on Ernst Cassirer?s philosophy of symbolic forms is the main theme of this article. In the central section, the basic elements of the philosophy of symbolic forms are briefly introduced and are followed by a portrayal of the relationship between consciousness, symbolic forms and freedom. The essay then focuses on Cassirer?s general premises for his analysis of myth and also his description of the techniques of modern political myths. These elements of Cassirer?s philosophy are put forth so as to demonstrate the relevancy of his thought with regard to the issue of dialogue and pluralism, and also to indicate the applicability of his analysis concerning the presence of mythical consciousness in modern societies, including also the societies on the territory of the former Yugoslavia. The conclusion endeavors to gather the wealth of Cassirer?s analyses and to apply these in a condensed manner to an analysis of the situation in the regions indicated and also to point out directions to be taken in the search for possible solutions.

The study aims to obtain empirical information that knowledge, situation, attitude and motivation have positive relationship simultaneously and partially with laptop purchasing decision from students of Economic Faculty of Catholic University Darma Cendika Surabaya. Problems and hypothesis are formulated based on references and empirical studies. To test the hypothesis used regression conversion F test (linearitan) to determine whether the relationship between the dependent variable with the independent variable is linear or not. The correlation coefficient test is used to determine the size of the correlation coefficient whether significant or not. Population in this research is students of Economic Faculty of Catholic University Darma Cendika Surabaya with amount of sample counted 100 people. The end result of the study shows that the partial correlation test shows: (i) knowledge has a correlation coefficient of 0,034 with significance of 0,738 > 0,05, meaning the correlation coefficient is not significant; (ii) the situation has a correlation coefficient of 0,365 with significant 0,00 < 0,05, meaning significant correlation coefficient; (iii) attitude of having correlation coefficient 0,416 with significance 0,00 < 0,05, meaning significant correlation coefficient; and (iv) motivation has a correlation coefficient of 0,232 with a significance of 0,022 < 0,05, meaning the correlation coefficient is significant. Simultaneously, the dependent variable relation (X) with independent variable (Y) is positive with adjusted R Square (R2) of 0,428 which means that 42,8% purchase decision of laptop students of Economic Faculty of Catholic University Darma Cendika Surabaya can be explained by the four dependent variables, while the remaining 57,2% of the decision to purchase laptop students of Economic Faculty of Catholic University Darma Cendika Surabaya can be explained by other variables outside of the four dependent variables currently being studied.

В синхронической перспективе распределённая и нераспределенная разновидности образности генерируют несовместимые типы опыта с взаимоисключающими структурными характеристиками и социально-политическими импликациями (дискретность).Main theme of the article are the types of imagery becoming increasingly characteristic of contemporary culture. The core feature of these types is their being distributed across time and space, their ability to accompany us virtually everywhere, without being tied to any organizational form. Distributed imagery opposes “traditional”, non-distributed images “representing” some identifiable subject-matter. One of the essential traits of non-distributed imagery is its normative claim addressing not only the ways of its interpretation but also bodily practices of the perceiving subject, relevant for experiencing images of this kind. In contrast to the inherent oppressiveness of non-distributed image connected to a perceptual regime characteristic of it, the distributed imagery draws not on reduction and control of body of the perceiving subject but – on the contrary – on intensifying (and in this sense, on emancipating) its bodily emotional self-presence. From a diachronic point of view, the relationship between distributed and non-distributed imageries is mediated by quite a complicated socio-historical and material-technological dynamic of the developed and late modernity. Reconstruction of this dynamic enables us to identify the genetic interrelation (continuity) between non-distributed and distributed imagery. From a synchronic point of view, distributed and non-distributed imagery forms generate incompatible experience types with mutually exclusive structural characteristics and social-political implications (discontinuity).

In order to understand the relationship between Networked Knowledge Communities (NKCs) and the Networked Knowledge Society (NKS), the chapter authors conduct a genre analysis of a self-titled New Media genre called BookTube. BookTube is a NKC made up of YouTube content creators who use this particular social media channel to celebrate and discuss books, especially young-adult fiction. By examining how BookTube adheres to discourse community features—shared rules, genres, hierarchies, and values—the contours of this particular NKC become clearer. Stylistic patterns, the roles of authors, and author cultural capital all get negotiated within a discernible and definable set of practices that relate participants to other NKCs and the broader NKS. Furthermore, by relating these discourse features to other latent educational possibilities of the NKS, the authors explore how BookTube might be usefully implemented to model NKC practices in more traditional f2f educational settings.
