It has taken a relatively short time for critics to become convinced of the basic continuity of James Joyce's entire body of work, despite Joyce's own protestations while in the process of creation that he had forgotten each previous effort in favor of the one in progress. While concerned with Leopold Bloom, Joyce impatiently asserted that “Stephen no longer interests me. He has a shape that can't be changed,” and when writing Finnegans Wake, he contemptuously shrugged off Ulysses: “Ulysses! Who wrote it? I've forgotten it.” It was imperative for him as an artist to concentrate on his new effort, and since he acted as his own publicity agent, it was necessary for him to call attention to it; but a retrospective appraisal should take note of the manner in which each work overlaps with one another: the child in the first three stories of Dubliners is very much the child Stephen in the first chapter of A Portrait of the Artist, Richard Rowan in Exiles is a projected image of the mature Stephen, and Shem the Penman is a caricature of both. Finnegans Wake in fact is a summation of all that Joyce had previously written: it recapitulates themes and motifs, reworks many of the same characters, and puns every previous Joyce title into its fabric. The Dreamer in the Wake is more than just a single individual, even if one assumes that on the literal level we are viewing the dream of publican H. C. Earwicker.

Abstract The Educator as a Manager. A Critical View In the following article tasks and motifs of the educator as manager are described. It is clear that there are other educator metaphors and associated behaviors. To some extent, the actions of the different educator metaphors overlap, but they differ in their purpose and perspective on the educational process and the person to be educated. First, a short time diagnosis is made, which describes the context of this metaphor of the educator as manager. Subsequently, on the one hand, the various motifs, tasks and objectives of an educator as manager are discussed. On the other hand, it is asked if it is possible in the current discourse to take a different perspective on the educational process.

This study discusses convolutional neural networks (CNNs) for vibration signals analysis, including applications in machining surface roughness estimation, bearing faults diagnosis, and tool wear detection. The one-dimensional CNNs (1DCNN) and two-dimensional CNNs (2DCNN) are applied for regression and classification applications using different types of inputs, e.g., raw signals, and time-frequency spectra images by short time Fourier transform. In the application of regression and the estimation of machining surface roughness, the 1DCNN is utilized and the corresponding CNN structure (hyper parameters) optimization is proposed by using uniform experimental design (UED), neural network, multiple regression, and particle swarm optimization. It demonstrates the effectiveness of the proposed approach to obtain a structure with better performance. In applications of classification, bearing faults and tool wear classification are carried out by vibration signals analysis and CNN. Finally, the experimental results are shown to demonstrate the effectiveness and performance of our approach.

At present there are few studies on the AVS and SEM in sediments of Chaohu Lake. Most of the previous studies on heavy metals based on the one time, the short-time or a local-scale survey. In this paper, [AVS] and [SEM] in Chaohu Lake surface sediments were studied for different seasons in 2007, 2008 and 2009. The results showed that: (a) The three-year average of [AV and [ΣSE in surface sediments of Chaohu Lake is 4.2μmolg-1and 2.31μmolg-1, respectively. The maximum of [AV appears on spot 5 (14.845μmolg-1) in summer while the minimum appears on spot 9 (0.13μmolg-1) in winter. (b) In spot 5 which near the estuary of Yuxi River, three-year average of [SE was the maximum (5.81μmolg-1), and the minimum of [ΣSE (0.07μmolg-1) appears on spot 8 which locates in the middle of Chaohu Lake. In spot 13 the [ΣSEM]-[AVS]=3.2>2 and [ΣSEM]/[AVS]=4.45>2.34 indicate that heavy metal contaminants from Hefei city have threatened the biosafety of Chaohu Lake. (c) The spatial autocorrelation of SEMCdis weak, which indicates that spatial distribution of SEMCdis determined by anthropogenic factors rather than sediments' own attribute. Chaohu Lake has been heavily polluted by Cd from no-point source and electronic electroplating industry.

The classical and quantal behavior of a particle in an infinite potential well, that is periodically kicked is studied. The kicking potential is K|q|α, where q is the coordinate, while K and α are constants. Classically, it is found that for α > 2 the energy of the particle increases diffusively, for α < 2 it is bounded and for α = 2 the result depends on K. An approximate formula for the diffusion coefficient is presented and compared with numerical results. For quantum systems that are chaotic in the classical limit, diffusive growth of energy takes place for a short time and then it is suppressed by quantal effects. For the systems that are studied in this work the origin of the quantal localization in energy is related to the one of classical chaos.

Having introduced situated affectivity, I locate the contributions to this section within this new framework: Carr and colleagues argue that embodied emotional processes strongly (though not indispensably) influence cognitive and motivational tasks. Bypassing the debate on causal dependency (embeddedness) and co-constitution (extendedness), I propose the category of environmental affective scaffolding as the one Hobson’s contribution fits in. He stresses the essential impact an infant’s capacity for social-affective relatedness has on her cognitive development. The enactive approach, as introduced by Colombetti, accounts well for the dynamical couplings between two or more emoters (or an emoter and her environment). If more persons are involved, they constitute a case of distributed rather than extended affectivity, since no single individual is the hub of such an affective process. The contribution of Zahavi and Michael promises to apply the 4E approach to empathy. Considering environmental scaffolds to empathy might enrich it.

Anaerobic  exercise is a high-intensity exercise that needs quick energy supplies obtained in a very short time. However, this exercise may result in tissue hypoxia which is characterized by the increase of HIF-1α concentration. The presence of HIF-1α will induce the secretion of VEGF and, eventually, trigger angiogenesis. Nevertheless, it is still unclear whether anaerobic exercise will also cause hypoxia in which this condition will increase the concentration of VEGF in brain tissues. The aim of this study was to find out the effect of anaerobic exercise frequency towards VEGF concentration of Wistar rat brain tissues.  Brain tissues were taken from rats treated with anaerobic exercise using treadmill. This exercise was given in different frequencies; one time, three times, and seven times a week.  The data collected were analyzed using independent t-test. The results of this study showed that anaerobic  exercise done once a week could significantly increase VEGF concentration (p &lt; 0.05) if compared with the one in control group (95.21 ± 31.99 v.s. 63.36 ± 11.01 pg/mL). Meanwhile, VEGF concentration of treatment groups given exercise three times a week (47.97 ± 10.68 pg/mL) and seven times a week (40.56 ± 13.98 pg/mL) showed a significant decrease if compared with that of control group (63.36 ± 11.01 pg/mL). Anaerobic  exercise affected VEGF concentration as an indicator of angiogenesis in brain tissue of wistar rats.

Abstract The operational law put forward by Zhou et al. on strictly monotone functions with regard to regular LR fuzzy numbers makes a valuable push to the development of fuzzy set theory. However, its applicable conditions are confined to strictly monotone functions and regular LR fuzzy numbers, which restricts its application in practice to a certain degree. In this paper, we propose an extensive operational law that generalizes the one proposed by Zhou et al. to apply to monotone (but not necessarily strictly monotone) functions with regard to regular LR fuzzy intervals (LR-FIs), of which regular fuzzy numbers can be regarded as particular cases. By means of the extensive operational law, the inverse credibility distributions (ICDs) of monotone functions regarding regular LR-FIs can be calculated efficiently and effectively. Moreover, the extensive operational law has a wider range of applications, which can deal with the situations hard to be handled by the original operational law. Subsequently, based on the extensive operational law, the computational formulae for expected values (EVs) of LR-FIs and monotone functions with regard to regular LR-FIs are presented. Furthermore, the proposed operational law is also applied to dispose fuzzy optimization problems with regular LR-FIs, for which a solution strategy is provided, where the fuzzy programming is converted to a deterministic equivalent first and then a newly-devised solution algorithm is utilized. Finally, the proposed solution strategy is applied to a purchasing planning problem, whose performances are evaluated by comparing with the traditional fuzzy simulation-based genetic algorithm. Experimental results indicate that our method is much more efficient, yielding high-quality solutions within a short time.

Technological progress in ICT has created conditions for a new government paradigm - from a government that leads to a government providing services to society. Technology changes the nature of the connection between government and citizens: governance becomes more participatory and citizens' interests prevail. The impact of e-Government solutions is complex, on multiple levels, depending on the maturity of the models applied and the capacity of citizens and business to assimilate e-Government services. In a short time, electronic government services in Moldova have evolved from simple information services to integrated transactional services. On the one hand, this is due to high performance telecommunications infrastructure (broadband, 2G, 3G and 4G technology) and, on the other hand, to citizens' expectations that boosted recently and determined the government to accelerate the implementation of new e-services, increasingly complex and a better quality. The paper addresses the issue of e-Government services in terms of the value that it gives to the government and to citizens' lives and analyzes opportunities to develop e-Government services in the new technological and social realities.

Abstract The idea of using rubber as a material for the damping and insulation of mechanical vibrations is not new. That this application of rubber has had no great scope up to now can be ascribed to a combination of circumstances: on the one hand there are unlimited varieties of rubber, concerning which rubber manufacturers publish no technical data, which can be relied on for specific projects; on the other hand there is a lack of knowledge of the behavior of rubber by builders themselves. In these circumstances it seemed desirable that the Rubber Foundation should endeavor to assist builders in this respect, and to this end a basic research into the vibration characteristics of rubber has been carried out. We shall report here on several points resulting from this investigation. Moreover we shall also discuss what can be expected of rubber, how it can be most economically used, and what advantages it shows over other materials. Rubber at the present time is unjustly considered an untechnical material, yet of late the rubber industry has made enormous advances. Types of rubber of different hardnesses can be made which for practical purposes are ideally elastic, since they are in no way plastic, and their durability is so great that a piece a few centimeters thick has almost an unlimited length of life, for example, ten to twenty years, without any appreciable change in properties. The generally feared aging symptoms in rubber for technical applications are now of secondary importance. These are actually not more than a surface oxidation which can injure thin rubber articles of poor quality in a comparatively short time, but has no influence on thicker articles. However, this does not mean that adequate attention should not be given to this question. For such a purpose one must use a superior type of rubber, from the best material, vulcanized by an expert.

This research aims to examine the covid-19 pandemic measurements taken in maritime transport and their possible effects on the supply-demand equilibrium and consequently on the freight market. Covid-19 virus which infected quite large geographic area and people within very short time affects negatively not only every part of our life but also the production and service sector within the globalised world.  This is mainly because the future tendency and further effects of this virus are unpredictable. Because of that, most countries are focused firstly on measurements to be taken to reduce the spreading speed of the virus. Although measurements and restrictions seem reduced spreading speed in some countries in short term, those measurements increase the operating costs of production and service companies. On the one hand reduction on cargo movements due to low demand and increasing operation cost due to measurements, have effected the supply-demand equilibrium of maritime transportation. This research examined the effects of already taken and could be revised measurements due to the present situation and possible future tendency of covid-19, and its consequential results on the freight market.
