Following the previous two chapters on sectorial applications of sustainable project management, the tourism sector has been identified as one of the most influential contributors to the economic growth of many developing countries. The growing influence of the tourism sector as an economic powerhouse and its potential as a tool for development are irrefutable. The available data indicates that the sector contributes to more than 10% of global gross domestic product (GDP) and provides for one in ten jobs in the world. Not only does the tourism sector spearhead growth, it also improves the quality of people’s lives, supports environmental protection, champions diverse cultural heritage and strengthens peace in the world The necessary shift from the traditional tourism practice to sustainable tourism is a change which can very appropriately utilize the concepts, frameworks and methodologies of sustainable project management, presented and discussed in depth in the earlier chapters of this textbook. This starts from the higher level of applying eco-innovation concepts discussed in Chapter 4, in defining the business model, in the era of digital transformation, that would translate the set strategy of sustainable tourism into SMART objectives to be broken down into well-defined deliverables. Agile methodologies using Scrum tools and the 12 traits of sustainable change management, as discussed in Chapter 5, can be useful in managing this process amid the VUCA economic reality. The use of the technology will be imperative to manage such change with the urgent need for tools such as Smart Contracts on Blockchain as discussed in Chapter 7. In order to do so, the project manager seeking to contribute to this vital sector of the economy needs essential background about the basic concepts of the sector, with emphasis on the definition, attributes, goals, policies and tools of sustainable tourism. This chapter aims to provide the reader with these basic concepts. It start with a general background about the tourism sector leading to the concept of sustainable tourism in light of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals set by the UNDP, (2015). The benefits of sustainable tourism are discussed in the context of sustainable development. The chapter then presents a detailed discussion of the attributes, governance, policies and tools for implementing sustainable tourism. It wraps up with eight real-life case studies from different parts of the world, about how sustainable tourism has a significant impact on sustainable development. Each case study is in fact a project, so it should make an interesting learning tool for project managers working in the tourism sector.

This chapter aims to introduce the reader in general, and project managers in particular, to the basic concepts and applications of renewable energy (RE) with emphasis on the various renewable energy technologies (RTEs), emerging as an alternative to traditional energy sources, in an applied, practical and project-focused context. The chapter builds on academic research-based cases studies conducted by the authors. The first case relates to a real-life project which will be the first advanced biofuels refinery to be built in the Middle Eastb with an estimated cost of $700m and commercial operation date in 2022. The financial close date is scheduled for the end of Q4, 2018, and it is expected to have a lower cost of production compared to European and US refineries. The second case study concerns the feasibility study to build a waste-to-energy (WTE) incineration plant in Dubai. It provides project managers with useful insight into the details of this vital initiation stage for this type of project, based on a real-life data set, in an applied research context. The first few sections of the chapter set up the scene for the case studies by presenting brief definitions of the basic concepts of RE and various RETs in the context of sustainable development. Tourism as an industry has evolved as one of the largest and lucrative industry in Indian economy. It is regarded as one of the most effective instrument for national integration and harmony. Thus, leading towards social transformation and upliftment of the rural poor. The success of the tourism sector is highly influenced by the supporting industries such as hotels, transportation, communication, banking and so on. Sustainable tourism takes full account of its current and future economic, social and environmental impacts, addressing the needs of visitors, industry, environment and host communities. Importance of sustainable tourism is immense for poverty reduction, the protection of environment and preservation of cultural heritage. Various stakeholders of sustainable tourism in Uttarakhand call for increase in productivity and efficiency of existing land, water, flora and fauna resources in a planned manner without jeopardizing their future use. This paper primarily aims to enhance a common understanding and commitment about Sustainable Tourism, and to demonstrate how it is a vehicle to foster economic and social growth, through the achievement of development imperatives, while minimizing negative social, cultural and environmental impacts in the state of Uttarakhand. The conceptual paper comes to note that all of us have our own role to play in ensuring tourism as a catalyst for sustainable development.

This article discusses the role of women in supporting sustainable tourism development in Bali by promoting Balinese cuisine to the tourism world. To date, studies on the role of Balinese women in the tourism industry have looked mainly at women as ordinary workers or professionals. In fact, Balinese women operate as culinary entrepreneurs who have not only been successful in introducing Balinese cuisine to the world of tourism but have opened up job opportunities for men and women alike. The data presented in this article was collected through observation of four leading Balinese women who run successful local culinary outlets or restaurants offering local dishes, and is complemented by interviews and other published sources relating to their business activities. The four pioneering women surveyed are Men Tempeh of Gilimanuk (West Bali) serving chicken betutu, the suckling pig restaurant manager Ibu Oka in Ubud, the owner of Made’s Warung Ni Made Masih, and the catering company owner Ibu Warti Buleleng, based in Denpasar. This article concludes that these four Balinese culinary heroines or srikandi have successfully managed to preserve and promote Balinese dishes to the world of tourism while contributing to the sustainable development of Balinese tourism by providing opportunities for tourists to experience local cuisine.

Tourism is the economic driver for many emerging countries, and the main key distribution components of wealth in the world. Globally, tourism generated over 10% of the world Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and provided an estimation of 115 million jobs in 2017. Moreover, the tourism sector consumed 1% of the global consumption of water. This paper reviews the current literature that focuses on water usage in tourism sector and water management initiatives in tourism in order to identify the current and future contrast between water demand and supply for sustainable tourism, and to understand the key issues and challenges facing water usage in Malaysia. Furthermore, the paper examines the linkages between tourism and water consumption, and analyses the trends in water consumption. The paper concludes by emphasizing the importance of improving and enhancing the existing water resources policies in order to conserve nature while promoting sustainable tourism industry.

The  The World Environment Conference in Stockholm in 1972 became clear evidence that environmental problems began to be a concern of various countries around the world, including Indonesia. Humans can not continue to exploit environment for resources and landfills. Environmental project management includes sustainable development aimed at improving the welfare of the community, conserving available natural resources, and ensuring the sustainability of the life of the surrounding environment. This concept is in line with the Sustainable Development Goals which are peace and prosperity for humans and earth, for now and in the future. Indonesia is not the only country that cares about the environment in accordance with the goals of the SGDs. Philippines divides project-affected communities into direct and indirect affected communities. United Kingdom has The European Union (EU) biodiversity strategy which aims to maintain and restore ecosystems. Denmark has The Innovation Network for Environmental Technology (Inno-MT) which is a partnership that supports projects related to waste, air, water and soil. This study aims to understand the principles of sustainable development related to environmental project management and its implementation in Indonesia. In addition, the researcher lists the actions taken by other countries regarding environmental project management to get a wider perspective.   Konferensi Lingkungan Hidup Sedunia di Stockholm tahun 1972 menjadi bukti nyata permasalahan lingkungan mulai menjadi perhatian dari berbagai negara di seluruh dunia, termasuk Indonesia. Manusia tidak dapat terus mengeksploitasi lingkungan untuk sumber daya dan tempat pembuangan limbah. Manajemen proyek lingkungan mencakup pembangunan  berkelanjutan yang bertujuan meningkatkan kesejahteraan  masyarakat,  melestarikan  sumber daya alam  yang tersedia, dan  menjamin   keberlangsungan   kehidupan   lingkungan   disekitarnya. Konsep ini sejalan dengan tujuan Sustainable Development Goals yaitu perdamaian dan kemakmuran bagi manusia dan bumi, baik saat ini maupun di masa mendatang. Indonesia bukan satu-satunya negara yang peduli mengenai lingkungan sesuai dengan tujuan SGDs. Negara-negara yang menandatangani PBB juga melakukan hal yang sama. Filipina membagi masyarakat terdampak proyek menjadi masyarakat terkena dampak langsung dan tidak langsung.  Inggris memiliki The Eurpean Union (EU) biodiversity strategy yang bertujuan untuk mempertahankan dan memulihkan ekosistem. Denmark memiliki The Innovation Network for Environmental Technology (Inno-MT) yaitu kemitraan yang mendukung proyek yang berhubungan dengan limbah, udara, air dan tanah. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk  memahami prinsip-prinsip yang digunakan  dalam rangka pembangunan berkelanjutan yang berkaitan dengan manajemen proyek lingkungan dan pengimplementasiannya di Indonesia. Selain itu, peneliti mencantumkan tindakan-tindakan yang dilakukan oleh negara lain terkait manajemen proyek lingkungan untuk mendapatkan sudut pandang yang lebih luas

The world is going green and we are collectively realizing that we do not have an unlimited amount of natural resources to utilize as we have done in the past. Material Handling Industry of America (2007) notes, “Not only do we have climate problems but we are also dealing with a resource depletion issue.” However, the project management profession seems to be in its infancy in applying green standards. How can we apply these “green” concepts to our project management discipline? One obvious way is that we can manage green projects more efficiently. For example, if you are the project manager on a project that will result in using less packaging in your products, it would be good if your project completed on time. The sooner that project ends, the sooner the green benefits will be achieved. On the other hand, if you are dealing with projects such as installing a new software package or upgrading network infrastructure, how can these projects become more environmentally friendly? The answer is Green Project Management (GreenPM®). Green project management is a model that allows project managers to think green throughout a project and make decisions that take into account the impact on the environment—if any. It is a way to ingrain “greenthink” (or green thinking) into every project management process. Greenthink connects the environment with the decisions that are made, whether project-related, professional, or in our everyday lives.

Nowadays, tourism is among the most important socio-economic sectors of the world economy, so the urgency of the problem under investigation is due to the need for sustainable development of tourism in Ukraine. The purpose of the article is to develop recommendations for the sustainable development of tourism in the world and in Ukraine, in particular, in the Carpathian region. To the leading methods of research problems of the article include the analysis of theoretical sources, analysis of statistical data, comparison. The article examined the essence of tourism, its categories, nature and factors of sustainable tourism development, studied the development trends of tourism in the world, analyzed the development of tourism in Ukraine and the Carpathian region, made the comparison of the indicators of tourism development in Ukraine and in other countries, identified problems of sustainable tourism development in Ukraine, ways of their decision are developed. The materials of the article have practical value for ensuring the sustainable development of tourism in Ukraine, in the Carpathian region or at the level of other regions of the country.

The article considers the main problems affecting the development of international tourism and predicts the further development of the situation. The growing tourist flow has contributed to the intensification of entrepreneurship in all sectors of the economy, capitalization of assets, job creation, economic and social growth. In 2019, the global tourism industry provided about 330 million jobs, equivalent to 10.3% of total employment. The COVID-19 pandemic has caused an unprecedented crisis in the tourism industry. The flow of tourists in the world has decreased by about 65%. In January-September 2020 alone, the number of international revenues decreased by 70%.This has resulted in the loss of $ 730 billion and more than 120 million jobs. It is noted that in modern conditions there are possible directions of development of inbound and domestic tourism, which are an important factor influencing the economy, but the weakening of external restrictions and lack of competitive service in the Ukrainian tourism industry will contribute to further development of international tourism. Those countries in which tourism occupies a significant share in GDP, are interested in attracting tourists as soon as possible and are ready to promptly implement all necessary anti-epidemic measures in the tourist infrastructure. For the Ukrainian government today, such a strategy is not a priority. Based on this, it is proved that the essence of the scientific and applied aspect of managing the development of international tourism is based on the theory of large business cycles and the theory of prediction. It was emphasized that the world crises ended sooner or later and a new round of development began. The task of mastering the forces of socio-economic life and subordinating them to the conscious, planned leadership of the state, as well as constructive and continuous social dialogue between the government and social partners, is the next practical transformation of today. The program of conscious organizational and regulatory steps should be knowledge, anticipation and action plan. When developing an anti-crisis plan to overcome the impact of COVID-19 on the tourism sector in Ukraine, it is necessary to take into account the recommendations of the Global Crisis Committee on Tourism, namely: crisis management and job preservation; support for self-employed workers; providing incentives and implementing appropriate state policy in the field of international tourism. In predicting the future development of the situation, more attention should be paid to the role of the tourism sector in the country's economy and the achievement of sustainable development goals; develop plans for preparedness for the challenges of the future and use this opportunity to move to sustainable development of tourism facilities.

In accordance with future tourism, there will be a movement from mass tourism to quality tourism. As a sequence, all sectors which take part in tourism development should develop quality tourism. (Suja, Ketut. 2015:1). A quality tourism means a tourism sector which is applying Tri Hita Karana (THK). THK is as a weapon to maintain sustainable tourism. By applying the THK the world Bali could be saved from destroy, to save nature, the ecology of Bali, economy and social benefit. (Ardika, I Gede. 2015,X1). This research is aimed to know the activities of The Secret Garden Village, if he applies the THK concept to maintain sustainable tourism ?. Data of this research was collected by using direct observation, depth interview and documentation. The data is obtained from informants who know well about the object of research such as : Mr. Billy Hartono Salim, the owner of Secret Garden Village, Mr. Putu Gede Arista DityaPradana, the operation Manager of Black Eye Coffee, Mr. Andra Martin, the Architech of building design. After that, the data was analyzed descriptively. The result of the research showed that the activities of all staff of Secret Garden Village was applying “Tri Hita Karana” (THK) concept to maintain sustainable tourism.
