scholarly journals Rasgos de conductas suicidas en jóvenes adolescentes: una visión de sus interacciones familiares, escolares y virtuales que ponen en riesgo su integridad / The research “Young teenagers with suicidal thoughts: of the precariousness of the communicative interactions to future acts projects”, identified some features of suicidal behavior. For this purpose three axes of analysis as a base were taken to study the interaction of teenagers in his school, family and among friends environment. These axes identified inappropriate behavior and resolution mechanisms undertaken by young people in situations of conflict. This was carried out through narratives, interviews and observations of four 14 and 15 years old teenagers attending secondary school: two women and two men, respectively. According to those records there are several social factors that can trigger suicidal behaviors in their relations with others. En la investigación “Jóvenes adolescentes con ideas suicidas: De la precariedad de las interacciones comunicativas a los proyectos de actos futuros”, se identificaron algunos rasgos de conductas suicidas. Para ello se tomaron tres ejes de análisis como base para estudiar la interacción de los adolescentes en su entorno escolar, familiar y de amigos. En estos ejes se identificaron conductas inapropiadas y mecanismos de resolución emprendidas por los jóvenes ante situaciones de conflicto. Lo anterior se llevó a cabo a través de narrativas, entrevistas y observaciones de cuatro adolescentes de 14 y 15 años de edad que cursan la secundaria: dos mujeres y dos hombres, respectivamente. De acuerdo a los registros son varios los factores sociales que pueden desencadenar conductas suicidas en sus relaciones con los otros.

Fruit consumption in Indonesia, especially in Lampung Province, has not reached the Nutrient Adequacy Ratio (NAR) yet, and this threatens the health of young people in the future.  Efforts to improve the consumption begin by analyzing the influence of social and personal factors then evaluate consumer preferences for fruits in Bandar Lampung.  The consumer preferences explained by different attributes combination for several fruits, such as mangoes, oranges, and bananas.  Data were collected with the survey method to 100 respondents.  Social factors significantly influence fruit consumption.  The social factors relate to the influence of other peoples that affects fruits consumptions.  Price is an essential attribute considered by consumers when choosing fruits.  Consumers prefer cheap fruits, sweet tasted, small, and clean skinned. Key words: conjoint analysis, consumption, fruit, preferences

This study examines the relationships between the bonding style of an incarcerated adolescent with parents and his/her current feelings of self-esteem, hopelessness, and suicidal thoughts and attempts. It also investigates differences between bonding to mother and bonding to father. Some 296 incarcerated adolescents were interviewed using the Parental Bonding Instrument. Significant relationships were found between youths' self-esteem, hopelessness, and suicidal behavior and their bonding style. Youths whose parent(s) had a parental bonding style of affectionless control reported the greatest distress, and youths whose parent(s) had an optimal bonding style reported the least distress. Differences were found between bonding styles with the mother and with the father. Attachment theory may be useful in targeting incarcerated youths who have affectionless control bonding with parent(s) for special interventions since these youths are most at risk for psychosocial problems.

Therefore, it is urgent to educate to choose and educate to the choice, so that young people can emancipate themselves from possible conditionings. To this end, the Montessori method represents a privileged way: child is free to choose his own activity and learns "to do by himself" soon; the teacher prepares the environment and the materials that allow the student to satisfy the educational needs of each period of inner development. Then, Montessori gives importance to adolescence because it is during this period that grows the social man. Consequently, it is important to reform the secondary school in order to acquire the autonomy that each student will apply to the subsequent school grades and to all areas of life

Автор говорит о том, что песни Токтогула «Өмүр», «Карылык», «Насыят», «Санат», «Үлгү ырлар», «Нускалуу ырлар», «Терме», «Курдаштын көөнүн билип өт» полны философских размышлений, педагогического содержания. Он раскрывает основную концепцию творчества Токтогула о том, что человек наивысшее, самое ценное существо, великий идеал. Так же автор подчеркивает, что слова песен Токтогула отличаются образностью, обладают эмоциональной силой и возвышенностью. Акын меткими и точными словами дает характеристику как человеку, так и явлениям жизни. Каждый слушатель или читатель получает для себя из песен Токтогула жизненный опыт и делает выводы. Abstract: Edifying and moralizing folk songs occupy a special place in the education of young people and their formation as a person. The songs were performed by akyns both accompanied by komuz and without it. This article shows the educational value of the moralizing songs of T. Satylganov. T. Satylganov through his songs, which carried educational, creative functions, transmitted humanistic ideas, spread advanced thoughts among the masses. The author says that the songs of the Toktogul "Omur", "Karylyk", "Naziat", "Sanat", "Ulgu yrlar", "Nuscaluu, yrlar", "Terme", "Kurdashtyn konun bilip ot" complete philosophical reflection, and pedagogical content. He reveals the basic concept of creativity Toktogul that man is the highest, most valuable creature, the great ideal. The author also emphasizes that the words of the songs of Toktogul differ in imagery, have emotional power and sublimity. Akyn apt and precise words gives a description of both people and phenomena of life. Each listener or reader gets from the songs of Toktogul's life experiences and draws conclusions. Pregnancy is associated with several physical and psychosocial challenges that influence women’s health and wellbeing. However, prenatal mental health has received little attention. Therefore, this study examined the prevalence and correlates of prenatal depression, anxiety and current suicidal behaviors among pregnant women in the Volta Region of Ghana. Two hundred and fourteen (n = 214) pregnant women recruited from two hospitals responded to the hospital depression and anxiety scale (HADS), the insomnia severity index, and a set of psycho-behavioral, socioenvironmental and demographic characteristic questions. Chi-squared, bivariate and multivariate logistic regression were used for data analysis. Prevalence of prenatal depression, anxiety and current suicidal behaviors was 50.5%, 35.5% and 3.3%, respectively. After controlling for other variables, average monthly income, insomnia, non-nutritious food consumption (pica), and body image satisfaction were significantly associated with depression. Marital status, insomnia, lifetime suicidal behavior and partner support were significantly associated with anxiety. Current partner abuse was the only factor significantly associated with current suicidal behavior. The high prevalence rates of anxiety and depression among pregnant women and intimate partner violence remain important maternal health issues in the region. Therefore, brief mental health screening and counseling services should be integrated into prenatal healthcare services.

More children and youth are developing emotional and behavioral disorders (EBD) while services are dwindling. Social factors, unsympathetic public policy, and ineffective educational programming are formidable barriers for those of us who care about and work with these young people. However, we cannot desist in our responsibility as professionals. Through expanded expertise and ardent advocacy, we can make a difference in these regressive trends. This article presents an overview of current forces impinging on the field of EBD and offers some recommendations for action.

AbstractSignificant progress has been made with respect to Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) in tertiary education institutions, particularly universities. There are also examples of ways in which sustainability has been incorporated into secondary schools and curricula, but with varying levels of success. ESD that has been incorporated in secondary schools has been shown to engage students and give more context to the curriculum, as well as enable students to develop the critical thinking required to tackle the big issues that face the planet now and into the future.In the United Kingdom, while some aspects of sustainability have been introduced into the secondary school curriculum, they are often merged into other subjects and do not attract as much attention as traditional subjects. Furthermore, sustainability emphasis varies between schools, exam boards and teachers, leading to differing levels of understanding among teenagers. As a result, it could be argued that some young people fail to engage with global issues, which could be contributing towards the lower rates of young people voting in the United Kingdom. Promoting sustainable development, and how engineering can contribute towards it, could also potentially help reverse the decline in engineering student entries at universities, by attracting more interest to the engineering field. Thus, the question is raised as to how sustainability knowledge can be improved among teenagers.The research investigated the scale and quality of ESD at secondary schools in the United Kingdom and recommended a range of solutions to improve sustainability teaching and thinking among teenagers. A range of research tools were used, including a literature and curriculum review, interviews and surveys with teachers and students, and a role-play case study.The research involved a survey being conducted with 475 UK secondary school students aged 12–18 years. The survey was conducted to determine the current level of sustainability understanding of the students, where they learned about it, their preferences relating to issues facing the Earth, and how they think sustainability teaching could be improved. Surveys were purposely open ended, and teachers were instructed not to give prompts prior to the survey, to enable an accurate reflection of students’ knowledge. Results of the surveys varied across age group, school, overall attainment levels of students and exam boards. In general, results showed that while students are interested and knowledgeable about current issues, their level of understanding of sustainability is poor to moderate, and they want it to be taught in more subjects.A gap analysis was then conducted with a curriculum review, survey results and interviews with teachers as inputs. The aim of the analysis was to determine the difference between a desirable level of knowledge and teaching of sustainability, and current practice. Among other things, the analysis indicated that interactive learning would be beneficial, and thus a role play, set in Cambridge and covering environmental, social and economic aspects, was designed and run at two schools in Cambridge. An element of competition was included, as well as a relatively open set of rules, to invoke creative solutions. Observation during the game indicated engaged students. Feedback from students indicated that the game was a fun and useful learning tool. Feedback from teachers was also positive, indicating that interactive teaching tools, like role plays, class debates and field experiments, can be very valuable towards teaching students about the complexities of sustainability.After the role plays, the students were surveyed with identical questions to the initial survey. Results were compared, and sustainability knowledge and the ability to identify environmental issues was seen to increase significantly, far more so than originally expected. This increase in knowledge was highlighted by the students themselves in subsequent feedback sessions.Finally, steps were proposed to improve sustainability education that could be implemented by schools and teachers or at the UK National Curriculum level: •a ‘Sustainability Week’ or sustainability short course to be run at early secondary school, with the aim to give students a holistic overview of sustainability;•aspects of sustainability, including real-world examples, to be included in all subjects and lead on from the short course;•interactive learning tools to be strongly encouraged and made available to all teachers;•training and support to be provided to teachers to improve understanding and ability to teach sustainability;•extra-curricular sustainability activities to be offered at all schools. These steps, along with continual lines of communication and feedback between politicians, the public, industry, students and educators, will ensure that students understand sustainability and develop critical ways of thinking, leading to a more engaged generation.

The aim of this study was to investigate the prevalence of suicidal behaviours among secondary school adolescents in the Limpopo Province. The participants in this study were 435 secondary school adolescents from Polokwane and surrounds. Two hundred and forty-three (56%) participants were female, and 192 (44%) were male. They were aged between 15 and 19 years, with a mean age of 17.25 years ( SD = 1.34). A questionnaire was used to record participants' demographic data and suicidal behaviours, including suicidal thoughts and threats, plans, and attempts to commit suicide). Thirty-seven percent of the secondary school adolescents surveyed indicated having thought of taking their own lives; 17% had made threats or informed others about their suicidal intentions; 16% had made plans to take their own lives but did not carry them through; 21% reported having attempted to take their own lives. These results indicate that a higher percentage of males than females had attempted suicide. The most frequent method used for attempting suicide was self-poisoning (44% of the attempters), followed by drug overdoses (25.3%), hanging (22%), self-stabbing (2.2%), and other methods, such as, jumping from heights, starvation, and drug abuse (6.6%).

Athletes are not roulette chips, but sports gambling treats them as such. If the dangers of state sponsored sports betting are not confronted, the character of sports and youngsters’ view of them could be seriously threatened… just as legalizing drugs would lead to increased drug addiction, legalizing sports gambling would aggravate the problems associated with gambling. As a society, we cannot afford this result, and… legalizing sports gambling would encourage young people to participate in sports to win money.
