In order to address the main research problem, the authors determined the correlation between personal predictors, i.e. the level of self-esteem measured by Fitts’ Tennessee Self-Concept Scale, the styles of coping with stress examined by Endler & Parkers’ Coping Inventory for Stressful Situations, the intensity of social support measured by Norbeck Social Support Questionnaire, and the level of educational aspirations of parents of children with disabilities, assessed by K. Parental Aspirations Questionnaire. The research involved 247 mothers and fathers of children with visual, auditory, motor and intellectual disabilities. Only full families were investigated. The research relied on multiple step-wise regression analysis, factor analysis, and path analysis for mothers and fathers separately. The high level of aspirations for the education of children with disabilities was dependent on the positive self-esteem of both mothers and fathers. The article presents a discussion of the results, study limitations, practical implications and future research areas.

Background: Although the consequences of disability are magnified in humanitarian contexts, research into the difficulties of caring for children with a disability in such settings has received limited attention. Methods: Based on in-depth interviews with 31 families, key informants and focus group discussions in Turkana, Kenya, this article explores the lives of families caring for children with a range of impairments (hearing, vision, physical and intellectual) in a complex humanitarian context characterised by drought, flooding, armed conflict, poverty and historical marginalisation. Results: The challenging environmental and social conditions of Turkana magnified not only the impact of impairment on children, but also the burden of caregiving. The remoteness of Turkana, along with the paucity and fragmentation of health, rehabilitation and social services, posed major challenges and created opportunity costs for families. Disability-related stigma isolated mothers of children with disabilities, especially, increasing their burden of care and further limiting their access to services and humanitarian programmes. In a context where social systems are already stressed, the combination of these factors compounded the vulnerabilities faced by children with disabilities and their families. Conclusion: The needs of children with disabilities and their carers in Turkana are not being met by either community social support systems or humanitarian aid programmes. There is an urgent need to mainstream disability into Turkana services and programmes.

Abstract The aim of the study was to examine the perceptions of young married women on meanings and motivations of partner opposition to their contraceptive use. Qualitative data was collected from focus group discussions and individual in-depth interviews with young married women and key informant interviews with health workers and traditional leaders in the districts of Ntcheu, Mangochi and Zomba in Malawi. Thematic data analysis was done using ATLAS ti software version 7. The results show that partners’ opposition to young married women’s use of contraceptives was perceived to be principally motivated by their husbands’ quest to control the sexual and reproductive lives of their spouses. Related to this aspect are the fears and misconceptions that use of modern contraceptives would relieve young married women of the fear of engaging in extra marital affairs as they would no longer be afraid of being discovered through pregnancy. Hence, the opposition was perceived to safeguard their marriages from instability and dissolution. The paper asserts that there should be a shift in the family planning programme delivery in the country aimed at reducing or eliminating partner opposition to young married women’s contraceptive use through involvement and inclusion of partners in the designing and implementation of contraceptive information and service provision interventions.

ABSTRACT Purpose: The study aimed to investigate the meanings attributed to work by people with acquired disabilities. Originality/value: The study unveils a new understanding of the meaning of work for people with acquired disabilities. Design/methodology/approach: There were conducted in-depth interviews with ten people with acquired disabilities and inserted in the labor market. Findings: The results of this analysis suggest that, for the interviewed group, the work shares its importance with other spheres of life, like the affective one and the family circle. Among the meanings discussed in the scholarly literature, such as pleasure in working and the work as a form of social interaction, there were also new specific meanings attributed by the group, related to the identity of the person with disability, like barriers overcoming, the combat against the stigma of incapacity and the positive impact generation. On the other hand, remuneration and career progression appear as a consequence of work, rather than a factor that brought meaning to their work activities. The findings of this study contributed to a better understanding of the different meanings attributed to work by people with an acquired disability. Among that, the results pointed to the existence of other meanings than the usually addressed in the scholarly literature of the theme, what reinforces the contribution of this article to the study of the meaning of work.

The universal experience of parents with a child with disabilities are added responsibilities and needs in supporting the child’s development. This study assessed the nature and extent of needs identified by parents of children with disabilities in Turkey using a Turkish translation of the Family Needs Survey (Bailey, Blasco & Simeonsson, 1992). The survey of 35 items and two open-ended questions was translated to reflect Turkish culture and linguistic equivalency. The psychometric properties of the Family Needs Survey were examined by administering it to 377 mothers and 297 fathers of children with disabilities, served in special education schools or rehabilitation centres. Factor analysis of data for mothers and fathers yielded a six-factor model explaining 56% and 61% of the variance, respectively. Alpha values for the factors of the survey ranged from .63 to .90 for the mother data set, and .80 to .91 for the father data set. Analyses of endorsed needs in the Family Needs Survey revealed an overall similar profile for both parents, with greater needs expressed for the factors of obtaining information, family and social support and community services than for factors pertaining to financial topics, explaining to others and child care. Mothers and fathers identified 35 additional needs reflecting themes of personal and societal concern related to parenting a child with disabilities in Turkey.

Smoking behavior is an activity where someone uses cigarettes. One of the factors that influence smoking habits in adolescents is to increase self-esteem. The purpose of this study was to obtain information about self-esteem in adolescent smokers at South Tangerang in 2021. The research method is descriptive using a qualitative study design. The sample in this study were four adolescent active smokers with an age range of 19 – 23 years who came from different universities by conducting in-depth interviews and conducting document reviews. This interview transcript was evaluated using content analysis, namely a one-by-one analysis of the pure interview results. The results of the interview showed that the informant felt the physical influence or the symptoms felt, namely coughing and enjoyed. Informants do not consider smoking behavior to increase self-confidence, but relationships and interactions in the family are considered the most valuable, valuable, and important for the development of individuals as members. Smoking can be a way for teenagers to look free and mature when they adjust to their smoking peers even though smoking can encourage the emergence of diseases that can lead to death. Based on this, it can be concluded that smoking behavior does not affect a person's level of self-confidence (self-esteem). Smoking can also encourage the emergence of types of diseases that can lead to death because smoking will release about 4,000 chemical components which not only affect active smokers but also those around them who feel the dangers of passive smokers.

Therefore, the family should look after their children to maintain the family siri ', especially girls so they don't do things that are embarrassing or tarnish the family's good name. This study aims to determine why families instill the value of siri 'primarily in adolescents and how families instill siri' values in their families, especially in young women.
