Coronavirus disease 2019 is a novel pneumonia-like respiratory disease caused by the infection of the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). The virus can invade the human body through various intermediaries, including through the eye. The presence of a coronavirus invasion in the eye may cause several ocular manifestations, which can be an initial clinical finding of a coronavirus infection in the host body. On the other hand, it can also cause systemic complications that may affect the eyes. This review will discuss in more detail how the coronavirus can infect humans through the eye, explain its manifestations, and briefly explain the proper and prompt management steps that must be taken.

As any new method of treatment, gravidanotherapy is met with varying opinions. Some expect "miracles" from this method of treatment, believing that gravidanotherapy has found a new all-encompassing, excluding all other methods of treatment. On the other hand, there is an undeniable tendency to downplay or even completely deny the importance of gravidanotherapy. Finally, some authors consider gravidanotherapy as a method giving only subjective improvement of patients' well-being, the success of which is based on mass psychotherapy. Meanwhile, there is no doubt that gravidan, given its composition, should have a significant effect on the human body. It is only necessary that clinical observations and experimental verification give an unbiased assessment of the action of the drug and determine the place of gravidanotherapy in the arsenal of means of modern medicine.

AbstractEdible film of chitosan is the primary packaging of edible-shaped that biodegradable, thin and transparent. Edible film of chitosan are brittle and less flexible so that needs to be added plasticizer beeswax. Beeswax or beeswax is environmentally friendly and not harmful to the human body. The purpose of this research is to determine the film made from chitosan with beeswax as the plasticizer can serve as the ingredient edible film and figure out the influence of the addition of the plasticizer beeswax against physical characteristics of chitosanedible film. The results showed that chitosan and plasticizer beeswax can be used as material for edible films. Beeswax give influence on the physical characteristics of the edible film. The value of the thickness on edible film between 0.012-0.36 mm, tensile strength between 13.72-47.53 kgf/cm2 and percent of elongation 3.34 – 7.44%. The increased concentration of plasticizer beeswax lose strong pull but on the other hand can increase the value of the thickness and percent elongation

Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), the latest global pandemic is on the hunt and the incidence is sharply rising day by day. On the other hand, tuberculosis (TB) is the leading causes of death from infectious origin. Historically, coronaviral illness were reported with co-infection with TB; Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-COV-2) is not an exception. As both diseases have overlapping clinical features, sometimes it maybe very difficult to diagnose and long standing features of TB can easily be mistaken for post-acute COVID-19. This report emphasizes the importance of suspecting TB-COVID co-infection and its grave consequences. Birdem Med J 2020; 10, COVID Supplement: 111-114

This chapter examines The Human Centipede, Nymphomaniac, and Videodrome; films that push the boundaries of human objectification. The chapter draws on the works of Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel and Jean-Paul Sartre, highlighting an ontological distinction between being “in-itself” and being “for-itself.” It is argued that though the objectification of key characters in these films, on the one hand, promotes a sort of nihilistic reduction of humans to meaningless bodies in motion, on the other hand, this same reduction potentially provokes a sense of sympathy in viewers who are also embodied, and thus can see their own condition reflected in the experiences of the characters who suffer on screen. Depictions of others as meaningless matter remind audiences of their own corporeal nature (being in-itself), disgusting, titillating, and amusing them, but also potentially moving them to empathize with the consciousnesses presumed by analogy with themselves to exist within the bodies depicted on screen (being for-itself).

Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2) that causes coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has affected millions of people worldwide. The pathophysiology of this virus is not very clearly known, thus, enormous efforts are being made by the scientific community to delineate its evading mechanism. In this review, we have summarized the hyperinflammation and humoral and cell-mediated immune response generated in human body after infection with the SARS-CoV-2 virus. The inflammatory response generated after infection by increased proinflammatory cytokines and chemokines, and complement proteins activation may likely contribute to disease severity. We also discussed the other factors that may affect immunity and could be important comorbidities in the disease severity and outcome.

The severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) epidemic in Brazil was dominated by two lineages designated as B.1.1.28 and B.1.1.33. The two SARS-CoV-2 variants harboring mutations at the receptor-binding domain of the Spike (S) protein, designated as lineages P.1 and P.2, evolved from lineage B.1.1.28 and are rapidly spreading in Brazil. Lineage P.1 is considered a Variant of Concern (VOC) because of the presence of multiple mutations in the S protein (including K417T, E484K, N501Y), while lineage P.2 only harbors mutation S:E484K and is considered a Variant of Interest (VOI). On the other hand, epidemiologically relevant B.1.1.33 deriving lineages have not been described so far. Here we report the identification of a new SARS-CoV-2 VOI within lineage B.1.1.33 that also harbors mutation S:E484K and was detected in Brazil between November 2020 and February 2021. This VOI displayed four non-synonymous lineage-defining mutations (NSP3:A1711V, NSP6:F36L, S:E484K, and NS7b:E33A) and was designated as lineage N.9. The VOI N.9 probably emerged in August 2020 and has spread across different Brazilian states from the Southeast, South, North, and Northeast regions.

Mathematics as a field of knowledge and culture presents researchers with many problems, also of a philosophical nature. One of the issues worth considering when considering the nature of mathematics is the theory of embodied mathematics, which links abstract mathematical thinking with the functioning of the human body in its purely physical dimension. This theory, on the one hand, uncovers new information about the yet unknown neural correlates of mathematics, and on the other hand, it poses important philosophical and cultural questions about the place of mathematics and its role in discovering the rules of reality.

The outbreak of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) from a seafood market in Wuhan, China, has ushered in a new era. It transformed into a pandemic, seized global attention, and was the biggest highlight of the year 2020. The SARS-CoV-2 outbreak has jeopardized health systems and greatly affected socioeconomic parameters. With global focus on fighting this unpredictable fight with this new virus, the biggest chronic infectious killer, mycobacterium tuberculosis (M. tb), was hugely affected from this shift in attention. Due to certain similarities in the behavior of the two infectious agents, there have been inevitable consequences. On one hand, administrative measures to contain SARS-CoV-2 have simultaneously led to a breaking in the chain of tuberculosis (TB) management. Consequently, a regression occurred in the milestones achieved in the battle against TB. On the other hand, the same measures and heightened hygiene awareness has helped to decrease the spread of the TB bacilli. With an improved understanding of the interrelations and the outcomes noticed in 2020, we can better gear ourselves to develop a more sophisticated and robust strategy to tilt the balance against TB. Keeping this in mind, in this review we aim to discuss in detail the implications of SARS-CoV-2 on an already unwavering health hazard: TB.

Although in the wake of the Modern Movement tradition, Álvaro Siza Vieira’s architectural research moves along the thin red line between abstraction and representation. The apparent arbitrariness of some of his compositions, widely analyzed in typological and social key, is primarily an expression of his attention to the moving subject that never translates into illusory devices. Yet, in the last two decades of the 20th century, anthropomorphic and zoomorphic presences began to haunt his architectures, addressing to new meanings. The keys to understanding this phase of Siza’s creative trajectory reside in his hypertrophic graphic activity, in his production as a designer and, most of all, as a sculptor. On one hand, his sketches reveal the tension and negotiation between architecture body and human body, which to some extent constitute the extremes of his formal investigation. On the other hand, his objects and sculptures result as intermediate moments of experimentation and clarification by responding the ergonomic demands through the semantic economy of objet trouvée. Through them, Siza’s architectural anthropomorphism can be interpreted as a moment of transition towards an architecture parlant, which relies on the connotative participation of people to put in scene no longer figures or characters but interactions and feelings: the opportunity of a meeting.

How can technologies affect human nature? If the nature of human beings changes, one wonders: in which direction? These problems are actively discussed today by philosophers, sociologists and political scientists, representatives of religious denominations, etc. One of the points of view, which can be conditionally called “anthropomorphic”, boils down to the fact that the combination of man and machine is unacceptable, as this leads to anti-humanism, and one must follow the path of improving the Human Body. "Transhumanists" or "post-humanists", on the other hand, say that everything that can be done must be done and progress cannot be stopped. The point of compromise is to comply with the “red line”: to prohibit reproductive cloning, but to allow the use of biotechnologies, for example, to treat people. The article also tried to implement a kind of mental experiment and to evaluate the technological trends indicated from the position of the ancient philosophers, mainly Socrates and Plato. The authors suggest that ancient philosophers could give ambiguous assessments.
