The times are increasingly rapid, marked by advances in science and technology, whether they realize it or not have a sharp enough impact on society, including adolescents and school-age children. The positive impact arising from the development of science and technology is a great hope for all levels of society. On the other hand, the emergence of negative impacts is something that cannot be denied and has recently occurred in society, including in the world of education. Bullying cases, student fights, skipping school, actions against teachers are becoming more frequent. This makes parents, practitioners, administrators and observers of education quite concerned and stimulated to create and emphasize education that is able to produce students who have strong character, have akhlaqul karimah. Realizing that this condition is also the government's responsibility, the government determines the importance of character education in educational institutions as stipulated in Presidential Regulation No. 78 of 2017 concerning Strengthening Character Education. One of the efforts taken by education providers is to provide education with boarding services, namely educational services by requiring students to live in school dormitories, with the aim that the education process can run twenty-four hours, with full attention and monitoring and guidance from the boarding supervisor. With this boarding system, schools will find it easier to condition students to participate in activities organized by schools including religious education as the core of character education in theory and practice directly with the guidance of teachers in dormitories. The boarding system education also isolates students from socializing in a wide environment that has recently been exposed to many negative influences from the internet, social media and so on. In boarding schools students are taught to have a strong character through a maximum educational process.

The development of the times was followed by technological developments as well as the consumptive behavior of electronic devices such as smartphones. This technological progress has two impacts, namely positive and negative impacts. The positive impact is that humans get ease in accessing information, connecting with others quickly through social networks. The negative impact of smartphone usage on elementary school children is excessive use, plus there is no healthy control mechanism both at school and at home. The purpose of this paper is to focus on relevant Christian religious education without having to reject the progress of the times for students so that the problem of smartphone addiction can be anticipated early on. This research uses descriptive method and case study with a qualitative approach.

Java is very densely populated since it is inhabited by more than 60% of the total population of Indonesia. Based on data from the Ministry of Forestry, forest loss between 2000-2005 in Java was about 800,000 hectares. Regardless of the debate on whether the different methodologies of forest inventory applied in 2005 have resulted in an underestimation of the figure of forest loss or not, the decrease of forest cover in Java is obvious and needs immediate response. Spatial modeling of the deforestation will assist the policy makers in understanding this process and in taking it into consideration, when decisions are made on the issue. Moreover, the results can be used as data input to solve environmental problems resulting from deforestation. The authors of this chapter modeled the deforestation in Java by using logistic regression. Percentage of deforested area was considered as the response variable, whilst biophysical and socioeconomic factors, that explain the current spatial pattern in deforestation, were assigned as explanatory variables. Furthermore, the authors predicted the future deforestation process, and then, for the case of Java, it was validated with the actual deforestation derived from MODIS satellite imageries from 2000 to 2008. Results of the study showed that the impacts of population density, road density, and slope are significant. Population density and road density have negative impacts on deforestation, while slope has positive impact. Deforestation on Java Island tends to occur in remote areas with limited access, low density population and relatively steep slopes. Implication of the model is that the government should pay more attention to remote rural areas and develop good access to accelerate and create alternative non agricultural jobs in order to reduce pressure on the forest.

Abstract Between 1965 and 1980, the Indonesian government issued three religious policies. These had both positive and negative impacts on Christianity in Indonesia. As a positive impact, the Indonesian Council of Churches (DGI) and the Supreme Council of Indonesian Bishops (MAWI) were motivated to work together in lobbying the government. The policies also boosted the growth of local leadership in Catholic churches. However, the policies also brought a negative impact in that it became difficult for churches to obtain an IMB (Building Permit). In mid-eighties, Christianity could still perform religious services in churches without any disturbances, but after the 1990s, churches with no Building Permit were banned by some radical Islamic organizations. Preaching the gospel was considered violation of the law and a Christian could be sent to prison for performing this activity.

In family that plays an important role in shaping the child's personality is the parent. The personality is obtained through the educational process taught by his parents. First and foremost educators for children in the family are parents because it is from them that the child first gets an education. In essence, education in the family occurs implicitly, starting with communication between family members and the daily behavior of their parents. In addition to good communication, the behavior of both parents also participate in the formation of children’s morals. Because the family is the first and primary madrasa for a child. In general, in a family environment, religious values are instilled in children to shape their behavior. Therefore, religious education in the family environment is needed to find out which boundaries are good and bad in children's daily lives. In Islam it is taught to protect the family (or children) from ignorance, even it is highly recommended not to leave the family in a weak state (educational and economic). As explained in the Qur’an surah an-Nisa’ verse 9. This paper will discuss education in the family perspective of surah an-Nisa’ verse 9. This is important to discuss to avoid the birth of a generation of the weak, both weak in education and economically. With an education in the family, it is expected to form a strong generation is facing the challenges of the times ahead.
