The cooling of the operating area is an essential operational factor to be taken into account in order to obtain greater efficiency in the operation of photovoltaic systems. Adequate cooling can improve electrical efficiency and reduce the rate of cell damage over time, which helps maximize the life of photovoltaic modules. The excess heat dissipated by the cooling system can be used in a domestic, commercial or industrial setting. Various cooling technologies are included in the review article: hybrid photovoltaic/heating systems cooled by forced air circulation, thermoelectric cooling system, water immersion cooling technology, and improved performance of solar modules using solar cells.

Abstract Background and study aims The role that air circulation through a gastrointestinal endoscopy system plays in airborne transmission of microorganisms has never been investigated. The aim of this study was to explore the potential risk of transmission and potential improvements in the system. Methods We investigated and described air circulation into gastrointestinal endoscopes from Fujifilm, Olympus, and Pentax. Results The light source box contains a lamp, either Xenon or LED. The temperature of the light is high and is regulated by a forced-air cooling system to maintain a stable temperature in the middle of the box. The air used by the forced-air cooling system is sucked from the closed environment of the patient through an aeration port, located close to the light source and evacuated out of the box by one or two ventilators. No filter exists to avoid dispersion of particles outside the processor box. The light source box also contains an insufflation air pump. The air is sucked from the light source box through one or two holes in the air pump and pushed from the air pump into the air pipe of the endoscope through a plastic tube. Because the air pump does not have a dedicated HEPA filter, transmission of microorganisms cannot be excluded. Conclusions Changes are necessary to prevent airborne transmission. Exclusive use of an external CO2 pump and wrapping the endoscope platform with a plastic film will limit scatter of microorganisms. In the era of pandemic virus with airborne transmission, improvements in gastrointestinal ventilation systems are necessary to avoid contamination of patients and health care workers.

The cooling of the surface of the solar photovoltaic (PV) system is a major operative factor in achieving greater efficiency. Correct cooling can improve electrical efficiency and reduce cell degradation rates over time. This results in increasing the life of the solar PV modules. In industrial and domestic utilization, the cooling system is used for the removal of excess heat. This paper presents a new method for cooling systems for solar PV. The additional feature of the method has been the tracking of sunlight for efficient power generation. Further, the extra heat can be utilized for other purposes including heating and power generation through thermal means. The concept of the proposed system has been explained in detail with the pictorial representation. Also, for the validation of the improved performance of the proposed system, a detailed comparison with the conventional methods have been provided for five different cities of Saudi Arabia. The proposed system shows improved performance for all operating conditions.

This solar conversion system incorporates a suction fan powered by a solar PV module. Located at the outlet of the chamber is the d.c suction fan utilised to achieve forced air circulation without the use of external power supply like grid electricity, fossil fuel and battery. Simple thermal energy balance equations and heat transfer equations were employed in the design of the system. The operational efficiency of the collector is 83.2% and mass flow rate 1.58kg/min, the maximum temperature achieved in the chamber was 58oC. The system was used to dry vegetable, hydrophylum. The capital cost is less than $150.

In recent years, many researches are being carried out on the integration of solar thermal systems with solar photovoltaic modules in many countries for heat generation along with electricity generation. The electrical energy generated by the solar PV modules is utilized for the operation of fan. The hybrid solar photovoltaic - Thermal (PV/T) technology provides an opportunity to enhance the electrical and thermal performances. This paper deals with analysis of various parameters which affect the electrical and thermal performances of different types of hybrid solar photovoltaic - Thermal (PV/T) air heating systems. These systems deliver more useful energy per unit area of the heater than that of individual solar PV and solar thermal systems and can be used for preheating the air for many applications such as drying of agricultural products, space heating and industrial process heating. The performance comparisons among the various models reveal that the model III in which the air flows above and below the absorber plate is most suitable for converting the solar energy into high quality electrical energy and low quality heat energy.

Purpose The purpose of this study is to investigate the validation of the usefulness of cooling systems containing Peltier modules for cooling power devices based on measurements of the influence of selected factors on the value of thermal resistance of such a cooling system. Design/methodology/approach A cooling system containing a heat-sink, a Peltier module and a fan was built by the authors and the measurements of temperatures and thermal resistance in various supply conditions of the Peltier module and the fan were carried out and discussed. Findings Conclusions from the research carried out answer the question if the use of Peltier modules in active cooling systems provides any benefits comparing with cooling systems containing just passive heat-sinks or conventional active heat-sinks constructed of a heat-sink and a fan. Research limitations/implications The research carried out is the preliminary stage to asses if a compact thermal model of the investigated cooling system can be formulated. Originality/value In the paper, the original results of measurements and calculations of parameters of a cooling system containing a Peltier module and an active heat-sink are presented and discussed. An influence of power dissipated in the components of the cooling system on its efficiency is investigated.

ABSTRACT Jabuticaba is a fruit native of Brazil and, besides containing many nutritional qualities, it also has a good field for use in products such as flour for cakes and biscuits, juice, liqueur, jelly and others. This study aimed to model the drying kinetics and determine the thermodynamic properties of jabuticaba peel at different drying air temperatures. Ripe fruits of jabuticaba (Myrciaria jaboticaba) were collected and pulped manually. Drying was carried out in a forced-air circulation oven with a flow of 5.6 m s-1 at temperatures of 40, 50, 60 and 70 °C. Six mathematical models commonly used to represent the drying process of agricultural products were fitted to the experimental data. The Arrhenius model was used to represent the drying constant as a function of temperature. The Midilli model showed the best fit to the experimental data of drying. The drying constant increased with the increment in drying temperature and promoted an activation energy of 37.29 kJ mol-1. Enthalpy and Gibbs free energy decreased with the increase in drying temperature, while entropy decreased and was negative.

In this paper the economic aspects of the water spraying cooling technology of polycrystalline solar modules with respect to the effect of temperature on performance was examined. The main purpose of this work was to explore the economic relations of the spraying cooling technology of solar modules. In the study 5 kW PV system for residential customers, 5 kW and 50 kW PV system for business customer were studied. In Hungarian climatic conditions, considering the inflation values used, the interest rate, the annual utilization of the cooling system, the expected profit and the maintenance costs show us that neither of the cooling solutions is capable of better payback time than the reference uncooled solar PV system. The further research goal is to determine the usability of the cooling system in such countries which have on the one hand more ideal climatic conditions, on the other hand more predictable green energy feed regulations.

A combined circulation system of spray evaporative cooling and air cooling (CCSSECAC) is a way to enhance the cooling performance of an air-cooled electric machine while maintaining its existing structure. Based on a traditional air-cooled machine, when the discrete evaporative cooling medium particles are scattered into the airflow, they will reach the heat source with the air circulation. The cooling capacity of the cooling system is enhanced simultaneously through the phase transition and convection heat transfer. Ultrasonic atomization is a simple way to produce tiny droplets and a good way to improve the performance of CCSSECAC. To verify the effectiveness of such a system, a principle test model was built and a multi-operational condition experiment was carried out as an exploratory study. The experimental results showed that the new cooling system was feasible for horizontal machines, and the stator coil temperature was significantly reduced compared with the air-cooled mode.
