This research is a qualitative research with two variables. The classroom action research is conducted at phisics study program of Muhammadiyah University of Metro. The subject of this research is first semester students of physics study program. The number of the students is 22. The objective of this research was to know how cue cards technique improve the students’ writing ability in descriptive text. The researcher choose one class because they have problem in writing ability. This research was conducted in two cycles. Each cycle consisted of planning, acting, observing and reflecting. The data were collected from test (pre test and post test), observation. The result of this research can be seen from the average score of pre test (before treatment) was 61,86, in cycle 1 was 70,90 and in post test cycle 2 was 78. That was involved in upgrading maximally. It implied that cue cards technique can improve the students writing ability in descriptive text. In other words, the class had fulfilled criteria success of standard students competency from the school.It was supported by the observation of the students. From the result of the discussion, the researcher concludes that in this research there is an improvement student writing ability in descriptive text using cue cards technique at the students of physics academic year 2015/2016.Key Words : Descriptive Text, Writing Ability, Cue Cards Technique

The objectives of the study are: (1) to find out is the students’ ability to writing report text taught using tourism brochure, (2) to find out is the students’ to writing report text taught using picture, and (3) to find out whether or not there is a significant different of writing report text between the students who are taught using tourism brochure and taught using picture. This study used true experimental design. The writer used experimental class and control class. The subject of the study was the eleventh grade students of SMA N 1 Godong-Purwodadi. There were 5 classes with 200 students. The writer chose XI mipa 3 with 40 students as the experimental class and XI mipa 4 with 40 students as the control class. The result of the study shows that the students’ ability in learning process has significant difference between Tourism Brochure and Picture as media. It could be seen the average score of post-test between experimental class was 78,6 and control class was 68,3. In other hand, the t-test formula shows that t-test is higher than t-table, where 8,91> 2,021 (on a level significance 5%). It means that the improvement in post-test of experimental class was higher than control class. The used Tourism Brochure as media in enhancing students’ ability in studying English writing report tex. Therefore, the positive hypothesis (Ha) is accepted, and the negative hypothesis (Ho) is rejected. From the results, the writer concludes that the use of Tourism Brochure as a media significantly enhance students writing report text. Moreover, the writer suggests to teachers to use Tourism Brochure as a media to make easy and help students in writing report text and explore their ides, so that they are motivated to study English.

This research aims at finding out the students’ ability in writing an explanation at first semester students of English Study Program of Nusa Cendana University, Kupang NTT.  The researcher focuses on evaluating the students’ writing ability in five aspects of writing namely content, organization, grammar, vocabulary, and mechanics.  The researcher applied the quantitative method and descriptive analysis design. The research was conducted in August 2019. This research was conducted at First semester students of the English Study Program of Nusa Cendana University, Kupang.  The population of this research was First semester students of the English Study Program of Nusa Cendana University, Kupang in the 2020/2021 academic year. The number population is 160 in four classes. The researcher took 5 students from each class as the sample of the research.  Therefore, there were 20 students as a sample. The test was used to find out the students’ ability in writing explanation text.  In collecting data, the researcher asked the students to write an argumentative essay by choosing one of the given topics. To analyze the data, the researcher focused on evaluating the students’ writing in five criteria. The result of the research shows that the mean score of the test is 6.86. It shows that the students have an average degree of capability in writing explanation text.   The biggest problem for the students in developing an explanation text is the organization (43%), it followed by the language use (37%), vocabulary (33%), content (30%), and the smallest problem is mechanics (30%).  Some factors that hamper the students in writing: 1) the students face difficulties in expressing ideas, choosing appropriate words, and arranging ideas in writing, 2) the students seldom practice their writing skill, 3) the students still find difficulty in using punctuation in writing from, 4) the students do not enrich themselves with knowledge.

<p>This study deals with the effect of hamburger strategy on writing descriptive text. Hamburger strategy is a writing organizer strategy that visually outlines the key components of a paragraph. When writing by using hamburger strategy, the students will learn to remember how to build the paragraph and the importance of each component. It was conducted by using experimental quantitative research. The population of this study is the first semester  students of English Department Nommensen Medan. The writer takes 50 students as the sample and they are devided into two groups by using random sampling. The first group was  group A as Experimental class which is taught by implementing hamburger strategy while the second group is Group B as control class which is taught by using conventional method. Oral test is used  as the instrument of collecting the data. This test consists of two types, namely pre-test and post-test. The data were analyzed by using t-test formula. The calculation shows t-observed that is 3. 58, which  is higher than t-table that is 1.676 at the level significance  (p: 0.05) with the degree of freedom (df) 48. It means that Ha is accepted while Ho is rejected, therefore it is concluded that hamburger  strategy  significantly affects on writing descriptive text of the first semester students of English Department in Nommensen University Medan academic year 2016/2017. It is suggested for the students of English Department as source of valuable knowledge and information when conducting a research related to the study. AbstractThis study was designed to improve the students’ writing ability of report text by using Jigsaw technique. This study was conducted in two cycles by following the procedures of the action research. There are planning, implementing, observing, and reflecting. Each cycle consisted of two meetings. The data of the study were gathered through the following instruments, namely observation checklist, questionnaire and test. The subjects of this study were 32 students at eleventh grade of Administrasi Perkantoran (AP) program in academic year 2016-2017 of Nurulhidayah Pasundan Vocational School. The finding of the study indicated that Jigsaw technique was effective in enhancing the students’ motivation and participation. From the result of questionnaire, it showed that 74% students participated actively in the first cycle and 80% students participated in the second cycle. This implied that the first criteria of success had been fulfilled. Furthermore, the finding of the study indicated that Jigsaw technique was successful in improving students’ writing of report text. The improvement could be seen from the increase of students’ mean writing score from 55.09 in the pre-test cycle, and 74.62 in the first cycle increase become 80.46 in the second cycle. If it calculated into class percentage, there were 4 students (12.5 %) who passed KKM in the pre-test. Meanwhile, in the cycle 1, there were 24 students (75%) who passed KKM and it gained which was in the post-test cycle 2 there were 29 students (90.62%) who passed KKM. So, it indicated that the second criteria of success has been achieved. Keywords: Jigsaw technique, writing ability, teaching report text.

The problems of this research is the students are difficult to find the information from the text. The objective of this class action research are: (1) to know how far Think-aloud strategy can improve the students’ reading comprehension and; (2) to know how the process of teaching reading by using Think-Aloud Strategy at eleventh grade of SMK Kartikatama Metro in academic year 2017/2018. The method of this research is clasroom action research that consist of two cycles. The subject of this research is the students of Accounting Class eleventh grade of SMK Kartikatama Metro that consist of 30 students. The research instruments in this research are observation, interview sheets, and test. The result of the data analysis in this research are pre-test until post-test 2 that the average of pre-test was 60.93. Then, the implementation of think-aloud strategy in teaching, there is an increase of 3.65 become 64.58. Then, in the cycle 2 the average of students’ score is 80.17. Based on the teaching and learning activities, pre-test until post-test 2 are increased. From the cycle 2, It is about 80 % of the students can achieve the minimum passing criteria (KKM), so this research is success. The conclusion is the implementation of  think-aloud strategy can improve students' reading comprehension.

The problems of this research were how to improve students’ structure mastery by using Numbered Heads Together cooperative learning strategy and how to motivate the students to apply it in English learning. The research type was a classroom action research. The subject consisted of 60 students of the third semester of English Department at University of Indraprasta PGRI in 2015-2016 academic year. The research data were collected by using pre-test and post-test. Data on students’ structure mastery were analysed by using descriptive and statistical analysis, to know the improvement in mean students. The result of cultivation data identified that the average score of post-test was 67.4 and the average score of pre-test was 55.5. It indicated that the score of post-test was higher than pre-test and teaching English language structure by using Numbered Heads Together can improve students’ structure mastery.

This study was aimed to improve the students’ grammar achievement, especially in using conditional sentences by applying peer teaching technique. The subject of the study was the third semester students of English Education Study Program in academic year 2017/ 2018. This study was conducted by applying Classroom Action Research (CAR) which had been conducted in two cycles and each cycle consisted of three meetings. The instruments of collecting data were quantitative data (grammar test and questionnaire) and qualitative data (observation checklist and fieldnotes). The results of the test showed that the mean score of pre test was 15, formative test was 35 and post test was 63. The result of observation checklist and fieldnotes showed that the students were interested in teaching and learning conditional sentences by applying peer teaching technique. These indicated that there was a significant improvement of the students’ grammar achievement by applying peer teaching technique.

This research aimed at verifying the effectiveness of using ELSA Speak Application in enhancing students’ pronunciation skills. It applied a quantitative method. Specifically, it used a pre-experimental research design. The population was the English study program students of STKIP Muhammadiyah Enrekang. The sample was the first semester students in the academic year 2018/ 2019. It was chosen through purposive sampling technique by considering that the sample took the pronunciation course at that time. The data were collected through pre-test and post-test which was conducted using the recording. The data attained were analyzed statistically. The result shows that the pre-test means the score is 1.96 while the post-test mean score is 5.79 by applying 0.05 level of significance with 29 degrees of freedom (29), the t-test 6.28 was higher than the t-table 1.699. It indicated that the use of ELSA Speak application is effective in enhancing the pronunciation skill of the first semester students of STKIP Muhammadiyah Enrekang.

The study was about improving students’ vocabulary through English song. The subject of the study were first semester students of English language study program, STKIP Persada Khatulistiwa Sintang,Academic Year 2018/2019 which consisted of 22 students. This study aimed to increase students’ vocabulary through songs.The method of this research was qualitative research and the object was teaching vocabulary through English song.This was classroom action research which consisted of one cycle.In collecting the data, the researchers used observation sheet, Fieldnotes and test. The result of this research showed that the use of song succeeded improving students’ vocabulary. The result of the test shown that  mean score was 80,25, it was good cathegory.The improvement of the teaching learning process was based on the improvement of teaching learning behaviour in the classroom. The change of behaviour was notified from the classroom observation, fieldnotes which were discussed with the collaborator in the reflection stage. Song was found out helpful to improve students’ vocabulary mastery for first semester students of English language study program, STKIP Persada Khatulistiwa Sintang, Academic year 2018/2019.Keywords: Vocabulary Mastery, English Songs

This study intends to describe the used of drill techniques can improve understanding and the ability of students to use Simple present and past tense. This research can be classified into quasi-experimental research using the pre-test and post-test design. The research was conducted at the beginning of semester in 2018/2019 academic in year in the first semester, class A amounted to 45 students as the experimental class and class B which amounted to 45 students as a control class. The data were collected through a test. The result showed that the use of drill techniques has been able improve student competence and English performance. The average score of the post test (74) is higher than the pre-test(51.92), and the percentage of student whose grades are 71-100 is 100% while in the pre-test only 18,51%. The researcher came to the conclusion that it was proven, drill techniques can be used as a technique in teaching English to improve the competence and performance of English language students.
