This research aimed at verifying the effectiveness of using ELSA Speak Application in enhancing students’ pronunciation skills. It applied a quantitative method. Specifically, it used a pre-experimental research design. The population was the English study program students of STKIP Muhammadiyah Enrekang. The sample was the first semester students in the academic year 2018/ 2019. It was chosen through purposive sampling technique by considering that the sample took the pronunciation course at that time. The data were collected through pre-test and post-test which was conducted using the recording. The data attained were analyzed statistically. The result shows that the pre-test means the score is 1.96 while the post-test mean score is 5.79 by applying 0.05 level of significance with 29 degrees of freedom (29), the t-test 6.28 was higher than the t-table 1.699. It indicated that the use of ELSA Speak application is effective in enhancing the pronunciation skill of the first semester students of STKIP Muhammadiyah Enrekang.

This study aims to investigate the improvement of speaking ability through debate in the classroom and to investigate the students’s response toward the use of debate in teaching speaking at SMAN 3 kota Bima in academic year 2017/2018. In this study adopted experimental research design with method of collecting data used test and questionnaire, while technique for analysing data in this study based on quantities through data gained in the t-test formula. After analysing the data. It found the mean score of post-test by experimental research was higher than mean score of post-test by control research. Deviation score of post-test experimental class is 12 and control class is 5,93 and the square of deviation score of experimental class ≥ the square of deviation score of control class (1509 ≥ 287,87). It indicates that the treatment was succesful, more over significance value of the t-test also was higher than of the t-table (3,27 ≥ 2,021 = 95% and 3,27 ≥ 2,704 = 99%). The level of significance is 0,05% and 0,01% with degree of freedom (df) 58. It’s mean that Ha is accepted and Ho is refused. Not only research the treatment progress in experimental class and t-test in this study but also more response in using debate method in the classroom through questionnaire which have significant result 82,67% by respondents. This study concludes that debate method can improve students speaking ability in the classroom and has very positive response from students.

The research question formulated “is there any significant effect of chain drill technique on students’ speaking achievement at SMP Negeri 3 Raha?”. The design of study was pre-experimental research design that consisted of one group pre-test and post-test. The population of this study was all students on the first year of SMP Negeri 3 Raha who were registered in academic year 2017/2018. The sample of this study was one class namely VII3  which consisted of 22 students. The instrument of this study was oral test in dialogue based on the cue card about how to greet and respond. The research used Paired Sample T- test to analyze the result of the study of the effect of chain drill technique on students’ speaking achievement after analyzing the normality of the data in the experimental class. The result shows that students’ speaking ability in the post test is 2.806 higher than 1.647 is the post test. The hypothesis testing is found that the level of significant is 0.00, since the level of significance value is less than 0.05, i.e. 0.00<0.05, the null hypothesis (H0) is rejected and H1 is accepted. It means that the use of chain drill technique shows a significant difference on students’ speaking achievement on the first year of SMP Negeri 3 Raha based on the result of the post-test. Keywords: Speaking, Teaching Speaking, Chain Drill Technique

Languages are not just sets of symbols. They also often conform to a rough grammar, or system of rules, used to manipulate the symbols. The grammar of a language is a complex and highly structured affair because it operates in terms of concepts and categories which have to be defined in the same way. So we need a grammar in using English and an understanding of the grammar also influences our ability in English. The students of Law Faculty 2018/2019, Islamic University of Indragiri are the students who are studying English in the first and second semester. So, the researcher is eager to know their ability to identify preposition of time in the sentences. The study focuses on the students’ ability in identifying preposition of time in a sentence especially “on, in, and at”. The number of the first semester of Law Faculty consists of three classes and the total of the students are 118 students. The populations are more than 100 students, so the researcher used a random sampling technique. The researcher can take the sample about 15% to 25% or more like the sample and the researcher take half of 100% is 50%. So, the samples of this research are 69 students. The researcher used a quantitative method to get the data needed. The research instrument in this research is to test and fill in the blank forms. The researcher used a sentence without preposition as the instrument of this research, because the students learned preposition through sentences. Based on the result of the test, the mean score of preposition was 63.98. It was categorized at a good level, which included in the interval 61-80. Where there are 6 students get in a very good score, 26 students get in a good score, 36 students get in enough score, 1 student get the poor score and there is no get in a very poor score. In conclusion, the students of Law Faculty 2018/2019 in identify preposition categorized nice and understand in the preposition.

This study aims to discover the effect of applying Semantic Mapping Strategy on students’ speaking achievement. It will be conducted by using experimental research design. The population of this research is the eight (VIII) grade students of SMP Budi Murni 3. The samples of the research are two classes divided into two groups, experimental and control group which will be chosen by using random sampling technique. Thirty-one students will be taken as the samples. The experimental group will be taught by using Semantic Mapping Strategy, while the control group will be taught by without using Semantic Mapping Strategy. After analyzing the data, it was found that the value of tobserved was 3,12 with the degree of freedom (df)=60 at the level of significance p (0,05) = 2,000. It means that tobserved is higher than ttable (3,12>2,000). The result of this study shows that Semantic Mapping Strategy is significant effect on students’ speaking achievement.

This study aims to find out how Youtube contributes the development of students’ speaking English skill. The design used in this research was one group pretest and posttest. The population of this research is all of the students at the first semester of english language education in the academic year 2019/2020 which the accessible population is 84 students while the sample of this research was 30 students. It took by using purposive sampling technique because the writer chose the sample based on proficiency and the sample is suitable for the purpose of the research. The data collected in this reseasrch is quantitative data. The writer used a test to collect the data. Then, to know the noramility and homogeneous distribution or not, the writer used the normality and homogeneity test. From the result of test normality showed that significant value of pretest was 0.047, while the significant of value of post-test was 0.000. It means that the data is not normal distribution, it was because the significant value of post-test 0.000 were less than 0.05. The result of homogeneity showed that the significant score was .026. based on the testing criteria significant score < 0.05. It means the data is not same variant group. Therefore, the test of data hypothesis, the writer used non-parametic test, Mann Whitney test. Its result of test showed that significance score .000 was smaller than probability score 0.05. It was concluded that accepted. In other words there was a significant positive effect of using youtube as media to improve students; speaking english skill.

The objective of this study was to investigate whether Numbered Heads Together Technique significantly affected on students’ achievement in reading recount text. This study was an experimental research design. The population of this study was grade X students of SMA Swasta Teladan Medan with the total number of students was 60 as samples and all of the students was taken by using random sampling. The students were divided into two groups, namely experimental and control group. The experimental group was taught by using Numbered Heads Together Technique, while the control group was taught by using Lecturing Method. The instrument of collecting data was multiple choice tests which then divided into pre-test and post-test. To obtain the result of the reliability of the test, the researcher used the Kuder Richardson formula (KR-21). The result of the calculation showed that the reliability of the test was 0.64, which means that the reliability of the test is high. The data were analyzed by using t-test formula. The result of the analysis showed that tvalue is higher than ttable (5.50 > 2.00) at the level of significance 0.05 with the degree of freedom (df) 58. It means that there is a significant effect of using Numbered Heads Together Technique on the students’ achievement in reading recount text.   Keyword: Numbered Heads Together Technique, Reading Achievement.
