Research background: The risk management process is a key element in running a business. Moreover, it is basically one of the basic and most important internal processes in any company, regardless of its size. However, due to the extremely important role played by small and medium-sized enterprises in the economy, the problem of proper management of endogenous and exogenous risks becomes particularly important. Purpose of the article: The article aims to show the importance of risk management in the operations of modern enterprises in the SMEs sector and the attitudes of entrepreneurs towards key business risks. Methods: The research was based on data on 332 enterprises from the SMEs sector operating in Poland. The data was collected using the CSAQ method in the period from 12 of November 2019 to 9 of March 2020. The distribution of risk assessment in the studies was analysed using Tau Kendall statistics, while the risk management index was created by examining the attitudes of entrepreneurs towards individual risk factors. Findings & Value added: The results of the survey showed that three-quarters of enterprises did not manage risk in a formalized way and that decision-makers in enterprises often paid too little attention to the issues related to managing different types of risk. The article should, therefore, draw the attention of managers to the need to build appropriate procedures to enable effective risk management that creates opportunities for the safe operation of the enterprise. The added value of the work is a detailed analysis of the management of individual types of endogenous and exogenous risks, as well as an indication of what features of enterprises affect the effectiveness of actions taken in the field of controlling these risks. Research is valuable because of the small amount of studies that links managers' approaches to risk management with actual risk management effectiveness.

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to explore how local early warning systems (EWSs) for floods are established at the municipality level in Sweden. The study also aims to analyse the role of EWSs in a risk management context. The overall purpose of this study is to elucidate how and to what extent the adoption of local EWSs can generate value-added benefits throughout the wider risk management process. Design/methodology/approach – Semi-structured interviews have been conducted with supervisors at each municipality in order to depict how local EWS are established at the municipality level in Sweden. The interviews went through a content analysis with respect to theory on EWS and theory on the risk management process. Findings – The possible effects from an EWS is not only reduced flood losses but also potential spinoff. The possibility of spinoff effects from the system, but also the mitigating effectiveness in case of a flood is largely dependent on the well-being of the organisation and its risk management processes. Originality/value – This study widens the understanding of the value of an EWS and that the organisational culture and state of risk management system has influence on the availability of such value. Identifying the potential added value from EWSs is important from a more general disaster risk reduction perspective, as it helps to further motivate implementation of proactive risk management measures. This knowledge can be of help to others who investigate the possibilities of investing in EWSs.

AbstractOrbital surgery can result in damage to ocular and orbital structures, leading to a range of structural and visual sequelae, including corneal abrasions, globe malposition, diplopia, and blindness. Vision loss in particular is the most feared and devastating complication, occurs with an overall incidence of 0.84%, and can occur secondary to direct injury, optic nerve compression, or ischemic events. Different types of orbital surgery and surgical approaches carry their own hazards, and it is important to be mindful of these risks in addition to having a thorough understanding of individual risk factors and anatomical variations for each patient. Although universal guidelines for preserving vision in orbital surgery do not yet exist, there are concrete steps that every surgeon can take at the preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative stages to minimize the risk of injury and maximize the likelihood of preserving the eye and visual function.

A felelős vállalatirányítás egyik stratégiai jelentőségű tényezője a vállalati szintű kockázatkezelés, mely napjaink egyik legnagyobb kihívást jelentő területe a vállalatvezetés számára. _______ This study handles one of today’s most challenging areas of enterprise management: the development and introduction of an integrated and efficient risk management system. For companies operating in specific network industries with a dominant market share and a key role in the national economy, such as electricity TSO’s, risk management is of stressed importance. The study introduces an innovative, mathematically and statistically grounded as well as economically reasoned management approach for the identification, individual effect calculation and summation of risk factors. Every building block is customized for the organizational structure and operating environment of the TSO. While the identification phase guarantees all-inclusivity, the calculation phase incorporates expert techniques and Monte Carlo simulation and the summation phase presents an expected combined distribution and value effect of risks on the company’s profit lines based on the previously undiscovered correlations between individual risk factors.

The human factor is the indispensable resource of tourist pensions due to which the activity of this sector is achievable, but inadequate training leads to many risks for all parties involved, namely employees, employer, but also consumers, suppliers and other parties. For a healthy development, the society must go through all the established stages so that the frequency of the risks that may appear to be reduced to almost nullity. Particular importance must be given in the risk management process so that they are identified and controlled in a relatively short time so as not to face undesirable results. Research background: At the level of tourist pensions, we face a series of risks that must be identified in due time. Purpose of the article: Identify the main risks that may occur. Methods: The identification of risks is made on the basis of a very well established analysis by persons accredited in this field. Findings & Value added: In order to establish the risks that may arise, it is desired to determine a very efficient method that can be applied at the level of society and which aims at the human resources part and their preparation.

Abstract Through this article it is brought to attention the essential aspects related to the perceived risks for critical infrastructure, both theoretically and practically, considering perception as an important input in the risk management process. For the practical part, the added value component in the field consists from the results of research based on survey, conducted in a wider framework of determining the level of awareness of the critical infrastructure issue by a pilot sample, consisting of persons with managerial and operational attributions in this sector.

The purpose of this paper is to contribute to the theoretical work on service-perceived risk management of knowledge-based services (i.e., intangible and heterogeneous) and experience-based services and to suggest a framework that helps to formalize these risks and the value associated with their management, by arguing that this risk management relies on a sequence of risks (Threat, Event, Ignorance and Damage, called the TEID model) and on three categories of control measures (preventative, detective and protective). By categorizing customer-perceived risks, and by integrating control measures and assurances into their offer, providers can design new and valuable services. Service value-chains involve various providers (implicitly or otherwise) who may engender annoyance and damages as risks are a sequence of events. This paper holds the potential to contribute to extending an understanding and management capacity of customer-perceived risks of knowledge-based services. It brings into play a new framework and new risk management process. It also helps with formalizing and making tangible customer added-value.

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to explore the current practices of internal auditors in banks in Jordan regarding risk management, especially the risks they are most involved in dealing with, the nature of their responses in the presence of these risks, and appropriateness (according to the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA), 2009a) of these responses. Design/methodology/approach – A questionnaire surveyed views of internal auditors about their roles in risk management. It asked about 20 different types of risks, and, for each individual risk, how internal auditors would respond in its presence. Findings – The role of internal auditors in risk management in banks in Jordan was found to be limited. The risks that internal auditors were most involved in managing were those related to compliance, while the risks least dealt with by internal auditors included those related to the Jordanian economy and culture. Also, most of the respondents reported that they did undertake some inappropriate roles in dealing with the risks. Practical implications – The findings suggest the possibility that internal auditors are not aware of the importance of several types of risks and of the appropriate roles for internal auditors in risk management. Therefore, increasing awareness of these issues is very important. Originality/value – The research topic is relatively new and very under-researched in the Jordanian environment. This study is therefore likely to significantly contribute to the knowledge about how internal auditing operates in a developing country context that differs significantly from the contexts where professional internal auditing standards were issued.

Achievement of the efficiency of the supply chain of organic vegetables PT. X needs to consider output in the form of added value and profit margins obtained from the input of delivery, fulfillment of requests, and risks faced by each actor.  The purpose of this study was the management of supply chains of organic vegetables from farmers, entrepreneurs, retailers, and consumers in Cisarua, Bogor Regency, West Java. Based on the results of the analysis of value added by Hayami's method, it was known that retailers' profit margins tend to be bigger, but the contribution of value added is lower than that of farmers and companies.  The results of risk measurement showed that the biggest risk index was in farmers due to the large risk of supply shortages.  Measurement of efficiency using DEA showed that retailer actors were more efficient but tend to avoid risk.  Achieving high efficiency at retailers indicated the ability to balance risk and revenue so that the delivery of organic vegetables in the supply chain was more efficient.  Through a risk management mechanism with risk balancing and cost incentives because of the risk showed an increase in supply chain efficiency. This efficiency can be seen from the increase in the number of retailers 'demand and a decrease in supply / shipping inefficiency of farmers and companies in meeting retailers' demands.

AbstractThe process of receiving goods into the warehouse is the first stage of warehouse management. Correct receipt of fast-moving goods is the key element of the storage process as well as of the entire supply chain, which is why it is so important to avoid any disruptions at this stage. In order to identify and analyze the associated risk factors, two quality risk management methods were applied: a risk map and the fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) method, whose goal was to determine the magnitude of individual risk factors. The presented findings indicate which risk factors are the most hazardous to the goods receipt process. A correlation was found to exist for the value of goods as well as the continuity of the consequences entailed by the occurrence of a specific factor. The article presents preventive mechanisms as a risk management tool.
