This paper aims to analyze a pedagogical practice seeking to understand its potential for promoting a critical reflection on the topic of Waste. The practice was developed within the scope of the discipline of Science and Decolonizing Cultures offered in the Remote Teaching model, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, in the Graduate Program in Scientific and Environmental Education of a Federal University. For this, evaluations made by scholarship holders of the Institutional Program of Initiation to Teaching scholarships were taken as data, who after watching the video, answered the following question: what are the positive points and points to be improved in practice. Therefore, this work fits into the Qualitative Research Methodology and the responses were analyzed using Content Analysis and, more specifically, thematic categorization. After the analysis, it was possible to find three categories which are: “Poem as an enhancer of practice”, “Transdisciplinary approach” and “Problematization”. Thus, it is possible to consider that the practice fulfilled its role to promote a critical reflection on the theme of garbage since it was based on Critical Environmental Education and brought art to problematize issues related to the theme, causing contextualized reflections that transcend how the theme is commonly addressed.

The research was qualitative research using content analysis method. This research used interactive model data analysis through three steps. Those were data reduction, presentation of data, as well as conclusion and verification. The results show that there are some errors; 72 errors in using affixation: 21 or 29% errors in prefix, 9 or 13% errors in suffix, 9 or 13% errors in confix, and 33 or 46% errors klofiks (combination of affixes). The error is caused by two factors; 7% of interlingual errors and intralingual factor including 7% of overgeneralization and 86% of ignorance of rule restriction. However, the results also show that Thai students have not mastered or understood the structure of Indonesian language. The results can be used to develop the techniques of teaching Indonesian structure, especially the use of affixation. Therefore, the Thai students can improve the ability to use Indonesian language by channeling it in academic writing.

Iran has experienced a significant decline in the fertility rate over the past decades. One of the principal reasons for this decline is decreased willingness to bear children, especially in the highly educated couples subset. For that reason, developing and implementing a successful population policy is essential to increase fertility in this subpopulation. The study aimed at explaining the unwillingness to bear children in this subgroup. The qualitative research was conducted using a content analysis approach based on the data acquired using in-depth and semi-structured interviews with couples with an educational level of master’s and above, and without children or having one child. In this study, in total, 40 couples (40 women and 40 men) were interviewed. Of the participants, 57.5% had one child. Four main themes were developed using conventional content analysis: rationality and awareness, gender equality and willingness to bear children, cultural and social renovation, and concern about the child’s future. The results indicated that different factors such as economic, social, and cultural reasons and less hope in the future affect unwillingness to bear children in highly educated couples. Taking into account, these factors are essential at the time of development and implementation of pro-natalist policies.

Assessing the quality of qualitative research to ensure rigour in the findings is critical, especially if findings are to contribute to theory and be utilised in practice. However, teaching students concepts of rigour and how to apply them to their research is challenging. This article presents a generic framework of rigour with four critical dimensions—Trustworthiness, Auditability, Credibility and Transferability (TACT) intended to teach issues of rigour to postgraduate students and those new to qualitative research methodology. The framework enables them to explore the key dimensions necessary for assessing the rigour of qualitative research studies and checklist questions against each of the dimensions. TACT was offered through 10 workshops, attended by 64 participants. Participants positively evaluated the workshops and reported that the workshops enable them to learn the principles of qualitative research and better understanding issues of rigour. Work presented in the article is part of a large research programme investigating the pedagogy of research methods in higher education.
