In terms of botany, geophytes are known by their own survival strategy due to have a swollen storage organs. Snowdrops (Galanthus, 20 spp.; Amaryllidaceae) are important type of wild-sourced ornamental bulb genus in all geophyte species. Also, have a great deal of potential for use on landscape designs. Whereas, not much study has been done regarding the growth dynamics of snowdrops at harsh environmental conditions. This experiment was conducted to evaluate the effects of abiotic stress conditions on the performance of snowdrop (Galanthus elwesii Hook.) in soiless culture. Substrates and moisture were the variables. Peat + perlite and cocopeat were used as a substrate in pots. Moisture levels were applied; ML1, ML2 (well-watered and moderately tolerant treatments), ML3 (moderate stress) and ML4 (severe stress). Moisture had a statistically significant effect (P < 0.05) on circumference size, height and weight of the snowdrop bulbs. Plant height and carbohydrate accumulation were also affected by moisture levels in different substrates. The correlation between total carbohydrate (r = 0.95) and starch (r = 0.98) were positively determined. The reduced sugar, total sugar, starch and total carbohydrate values were increased by the severe stress treatment (ML4).

Two levels of deficit irrigation were applied to mature French prune trees based on gradually declining midday stem water potentials decreasing to –1.5 MPa (moderate stress) and –2.5 MPa (severe stress) by harvest. The moderate and severe stress treatments resulted in 32% and 51% water savings, respectively, compared to the fully irrigated control. The average photosynthetic rate and dry fruit yield for the moderate stress treatment were not significantly lower than those for the fully irrigated control. The severe stress treatment had significantly lower photosynthetic rates from late morning until sunset on most days. However, this lower photosynthetic rate did not result in significantly lower dry fruit yields. There were no significant differences in light interception as measured diurnally or over the course of the season in the first year of the study. However, light interception and photosynthetic differences might be expected to be more pronounced in subsequent years, due to carryover effects.

Introduction. Determination of the scientifi cally substantiated frequency of cleaning the ducts of local exhausts of industrial buildings and structures is one of the tasks in the fi eld of fi re safety of industrial enterprises. The paper describes design methods, in particular, a method for determination of the induction period during spontaneous combustion of dust deposits in air ducts of ventilation systems and equipment, which can be used in solving problems focused on the development of preventive measures to ensure their fi re and explosion safety.Methods. In order to solve the problem set in this paper and compare the indicators obtained in the calculation and analytical part of the studies with the growth dynamics of deposits in real facilities, fi eld tests have been accomplished in the production facilities of the fl our mill of OJSC MK “Voronezhsky” and JSC Concern “Sozvezdiye”.Results and discussion. The timeframes for cleaning of deposits on ventilation (aspiration) equipment of buildings and structures cannot be universal for various industries and must take into account the dynamics of the growth of deposits depending on the specifi cs of combustible deposits, the workload of the production facilities of the protected object in a given period of time, and the operating conditions of the equipment. As a result of the experiments, it was found that the places of maximum accumulations of deposits are most often formed on the surfaces of joints and on the bends of pipelines of ventilation systems. The conditions of spontaneous combustion of combustible dust are studied by calculation and analytical method, depending on such process characteristics as the speed of the dust-air mixture fl ow in the duct, as well as the diameter of the duct’s cross section.Conclusions. The nomograms built on the basis of the studies performed can be used to determine the multiplicity of cleaning of combustible dusts of equipment and air ducts of industrial ventilation systems. The paper provides a calculation of the period of induction of spontaneous combustion of combustible dust deposits using the example of rye fl our with asymmetric heat transfer. Its signifi cance is due to the process of accumulation of deposits of combustible dust to a critical thickness in terms of spontaneous combustion conditions.

Abstract: Prisoners are individuals who have been convicted of crimes and were sentenced to prison so they lost their freedom. Lost of freedom can cause stress. Stress is the ability of a person to survive under pressure without causing disturbance. Recurrent aphthous stomatitis (RAS) is a manifestation in the oral cavity which is usually triggered by some predisposing factors such as stress. This study aimed to describe recurrent aphthous stomatitis and stress among prisoners in prison class IIB Bitung. This study was cross-sectional with total sampling method. All prisoners who had experienced recurrent aphtous stomatitis (RAS) while in prison class IIB Bitung. The results showed that among the 56 respondents there were 53 male respondents (94.64%) and 3 female respondents (5.36%); 19 (33.93%) got mild stress, 18 (32.14%) moderate stress, 16 (28.58%) severe stress, and 3 (5.35%) very severe stress.Keywords: prisoner, stress, recurrent aphthous stomatitis (RAS)Abstrak: Narapidana adalah individu yang telah terbukti melakukan tindak pidana dan kemudian oleh pengadilan dijatuhi hukuman atau pidana serta kehilangan kebebasan. Stomatitis aftosa rekuren (SAR) merupakan manifestasi yang timbul dalam rongga mulut yang biasanya dipicu oleh beberapa faktor predisposisi, salah satunya stres. Tujuan penelitian yaitu mengetahui gambaran stomatitis aftosa rekuren dan stres pada narapidana di Lembaga Pemasyarakatan (LP) Kelas IIB Bitung. Jenis penelitian ini menggunakan desain potong lintang. Semua narapidana yang pernah mengalami Stomatitis Aftosa Rekuren (SAR) saat berada di Lembaga Pemasyarakatan kelas II B Bitung. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa dari 56 responden terdapat 53 responden berjenis kelamin laki-laki (94,64%) dan terdapat 3 responden berjenis kelamin perempuan (5,36%). Hasil pengukuran stres menunjukkan bahwa dari 56 responden 19 responden (33,93%) mengalami tingkat stres ringan, 18 responden (32,14%) mengalami tingkat stres sedang, 16 responden (28,58%) mengalami tingkat stres berat dan 3 responden (5,35%) mengalami tingkat stres sangat berat.Kata kunci: narapidana, stres, stomatitis aftosa rekuren.

Assess level of stress among working and non-working women residing in selected areas in a view to develop an information booklet. Objectives: 1. To assess level of stress among working women. 2. To assess level of stress among non-working women. 3. To compare the level of stress among working and non-working women. Material and Methods: The research approach adopted in this study is Evaluatory approach. Non-experimental descriptive comparative research design was used. The sample were selected by non-probability convenient sampling technique sample size was 120 (60working women and 60 non-working women). Results: 1. 85% of the working women had severe stress (score 18-25) and 15% of them had moderate stress (Score 26-33). 2. 35% of the non-working women had severe stress (score 18-25) and 65% of them had moderate stress (Score 26-33). 3. Average stress score in employed women was 22.5 which was 26.2 in unemployed women. Z-value for this test was 7.8 with 118 degrees of freedom. Corresponding p-value was small (less than 0.05), the null hypothesis is rejected. The stress level among working is significantly more than that in non-working women. Conclusion: The stress level among working is significantly more than that in non-working women.

Abstract Intensive medical research over the last fifty years has left the prognosis for patients diagnosed with malignant brain tumors nearly unchanged. This suggests that a new perspective on the problem may offer important insight. We have undertaken an interdisciplinary research program, seeking to study brain tumors as complex systems. This research aims to develop computational models coupled with experimental assays to investigate the hypothesis of self-organizing behavior in tumor systems. Preliminary assays have revealed behavior consistent with this hypothesis. A cellular-automaton model to study the growth of the tumor core has been developed. This model has proven successful in reproducing macroscopic tumor growth from a limited parameter set. Further, it has been applied to investigate the importance of heterogeneity to determination of a clinical prognosis and has demonstrated the importance of understanding clonal composition in making an accurate prognosis.

Abstract The proximate compositions, mineral contents, antioxidant capacity and bioactive compounds of 7 native Amazon fruits were chemically evaluated. The majority of the fruits showed high moisture contents (> 63.02%), and ash, total crude protein and total carbohydrate contents in the ranges of 0.22–2.07%, 0.17–2.44% and 7.17–41.71%, respectively. High levels of total lipids were found in uxi (23.25%) and monguba (18.67%). A wide range of mineral contents was detected and the highest levels were found in the samples of monguba seeds (Ca, Cu, Mg, and Zn), uxi pulp (Fe, and Mn) and pajurá pulp (Na). All the fruits showed antioxidant capacity, but the pajurá revealed the highest potential, statistically similar to that of acerola (p < 0.05). The highest vitamin C contents were found in bacuri and cupuaçu and the highest phenolic compound contents in monguba and pajurá fruits, but flavonoids were only detected in pajurá. A statistical correlation between the Na content and antioxidant capacity was also observed. Based on the results obtained, the fruits analyzed are suitable for use in the human diet, in the food and cosmetics industries as well as in pharmaceutical compositions.

This project determined the nutrients, anti-nutrients and functional properties of two cultivars of processed (boiled and fermented)Xanthosoma sagittifolium(edeochaandede uhie) flours grown in Southern, Nigeria. The proximate, minerals, chemical, anti-nutrients and functional properties of the cocoyam flours varied significantly (P<0.05). The results showed that the moisture content varied from 6.17% to 7.88%, withede uhieexhibiting higher values. The same trend was observed in crude protein (4.33- 5.92%), crude fiber (1.04-1.94%), crude fat (1.16-3.22%), ash (2.17-2.93%), withede uhieexhibiting higher values thanede ocha.However, the carbohydrate and energy values were higher inede ocha. For the mineral contents, the range values were: Ca (10.23-41.17mg/100g), Na (15.22-17.66mg/100g), Mg (5.82-8.38mg/100g), P (12.31-16.19mg/100g), K (2.78-3.62mg/100g), withede uhieshowing higher values. On pH, TTA, starch and total sugar, it was observed that fermentedede ochahad higher pH value (6.82), TTA was higher in fermentedede ocha(0.92%), starch (24.66) and total sugar (3.29) values were higher in rawede ochathan others. Anti-nutrient factors were generously reduced by processing methods especially boiling by between 50-100%, and fermentation by between 5-77% in most of the parameters analyzed. Functional properties ranged from BD (0.60-0.81g/mL), WAC (2.19-2.71g/mL), OAC (1.45-2.92g/mL), FC (16.38-19.52g/mL), FS (1.96-2.48 min/sec) and GT (60.85-81.05 °C). While BD, WAC, OAC, FC were higher in theede ochaflour, FS and GT were higher inede uhieflour. Relating the physicochemical and functional properties,ede ochahas a potential for a quality food thickener. Overall, the results obtained in this study can be used to develop cocoyam food based products for enhanced nutrition with a potential to promote cocoyam commercial agriculture and composite utilization for confectionary industries in Nigeria.
