The paper is concerned with teachers’ and students’ alternation between L1 and L2 within the same utterance, i.e. uses of intra-sentential code-switching which in classroom discourse tends to be less accepted by modern language pedagogy than its inter-sentential counterpart. The rationale for the study is the universal nature of the phenomenon known to occur in the first place in interactions among natural bilinguals and multilinguals. The data analysis sections of the article review eight different patterns which are evaluated pedagogically. It transpires that the category most likely to arouse methodological controversy is code-mixing.

This study focuses on the form and function of code-switching and code-mixing used in the Fashion  Program "I LOOK " on NET TV. This study is aimed to answer the following problem: 1.What is the forms of code-switching and code-mixing used in the Fashion  Program "I LOOK" on NET TV, and What are the functions of code-switching and code-mixing in Fashion Program "I LOOK" on NET TV. To answer the problem, the writer used descriptive qualitative research through theoretical triangulation the total data 72 unit of analysis of code-switching found that  22 data used tag switching, 18 data used inter-sentential switching, and  32 used intra-sentential switching. It showed that intra-sentential switching is commonly used by  Kimmy  Jayanti in the fashion program "I LOOK" on NET TV. Furthermore, 127 unit data analysis of code-mixing performed 74 insertions of words, 48 insertions of phrases, 2 insertions of hybrids, and 3 insertions of reduplications. Meanwhile, there is 250 function of code-switching and code-mixing used by Kimmy  Jayanti in the fashin program "I LOOK" in  NET TV. They are quotation  1, addressee specification  24, repetition  1, interjection 31, message qualification 12, personalization and objectivization  15, and facility of expression  121.

The objective of the paper is to determine types of code-mixing and code-switching made by teachers and students in EFL cross cultural communication class and to identify reasons for the emergence of code-switching and mixing in the classroom. The data was obtained through observation and in-depth interviews of the second year students of undergraduate program of English in Tarbiyah Faculty, IAIN IB Padang. The finding showed that tag-switching, intra-sentential, inter-sentential, and intra-word were commonly used by EFL teachers and students in classroom. It was also found that the teachers used code-mixing and switching in the process of clarifying certain issues to make them more comprehensible to students. Teachers also do these kinds of switching during their attempt to promote relationship with students, to switch the topic, and to persuade or motivate students to be more engaged in learning English. Meanwhile, the students mix and switch their language to overcome their lack of knowledge of English. It is expected that this study provided empirical evidence to advise on their optimal uses in EFL teaching of State Institute for Islamic Studies.Copyright © 2014 by Al-Ta'lim All right reserved

The sociolinguistic study is one of the interdisciplinary branches of sociology and linguistics with the object of language study as a means to communicate in the community. One of which is language selection. This study discusses the choice of language used by sellers and buyers and the factors behind the choice of language used by sellers and buyers in Randuagung District Market, Lumajang Regency. In general, this research is descriptive qualitative research. The data collection stage in this study used the listening method and proficient method. The data analysis stage used intralingual and extra lingual equivalents, presenting the results of data analysis using informal methods. The results showed that the interaction between the seller and the buyer was very communicative. The language selection in Randuagung District's market, Lumajang Regency occurred in three forms: code-switching, code-mixing, and a single language. The factors behind the choice of language are 1) participant, 2) conversation topic, and 3) function (purpose and objective) of speech. There are four types of the participant a) familiarity, b) age differences, c) ethnic background and language of speakers, and d) the presence of third parties.

<p><strong>Abstract: </strong>This study aims to determine: (1) The type of code-switching and code-mixing used, (2) The function of code-switching and code-mixing used by teachers and students, (3) The reason teachers and students use code-switching and code-mixing. This research was conducted using a qualitative descriptive method. Data collection in this study was carried out by observation, questionnaire, and interview and then analyzed and describing the results. The results show: (1) The types of code-switching and code-mixing often used are the type of intrasentential code-switching is 50.7%. Furthermore, the type of code-mixing alternation is 46.2%. (2) The code-switching and code-mixing functions used by teachers and students are as easy communication as is 42.5%. (3) Teachers and students use code-switching and code-mixing to facilitate communication in class and understand the material presented by the teacher.</p><p><strong>Keywords: </strong>Code Switching, Code Mixing, EFL Class.<strong></strong></p>

This study aims to investigate code mixing and code switching used by English teachers in EFL classrooms. There are two major focuses in this study; the type of dominant code mixing and code switching used by the teachers. A qualitative study was used where the data were teachers’ language classroom gained by observing their classroom practices and utterances obtained through in-depth interviews. The result shows that there were three kinds of code mixing found in teachers’ and students’ utterances in EFL classroom. They were intra-sentential code mixing, intra-lexical code mixing, and pronunciation shifting. The study also found that there were four kinds of code switching found in teachers’ and students’ utterances. They were random mixing, English-Indonesian translation or vice versa, English precedes Indonesian or vice versa, and English sentences precede Indonesian sentences or vice versa. It indicated that code mixing and code switching cannot be separated in English language teaching and learning process. This study has proved that the English teachers used code mixing and code switching in teaching speaking in some types.

Tujuan penelitian ini adalah mengetahui pilihan bahasa anak jalanan penjual koran di kawasan Tugu Muda Semarang. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode penelitian kualitatif dengan teknik pengumpulan data bebas libat cakap. Metode analisis data yang diperoleh dengan analisis model intraktif. Hasil penelitian, ditemukan bahwa wujud pilihan bahasa anak jalanan penjual koran di kawasan Tugu Muda Semarang adalah tuturan bahasa Jawa ragam ngoko lugu dan ngoko alus serta bahasa Indonesia ragam Informal. Selain itu ditemukan juga pilihan bahasa anak jalanan penjual koran dalam wujud bahasa Indonesia dan bahasa Jawa berupa  tunggal bahasa, alih kode, dan campur kode. Tuturan tersebut dipengaruhi oleh faktor latar [waktu dan tempat) dan situasi, faktor partisipan dalam interaksi, faktor percakapan, dan faktor fungsi interaksi. Pada penelitian ini ditemukan pilihan bahasa anak jalanan penjual koran didominasi oleh bahasa Jawa. Anak jalanan penjual koran sebaiknya selektif dalam memilih kosakata dan ragam bahasa Jawa ketika bertutur, agar nilai anak jalanan penjual koran mempunyai nilai yang baik dan sopan  di mata masyarakat umum.   The aim this research it to know the language chosen by street boys who sell newspaper in the area of Tugu Muda Semarang. The method of this research is qualitative by using the technique of data simak libat cakap and simak bebas libat cakap. The method of data analysis that has been gotten with the analysis of interactive model. The resultof this research, found out that shape the language that has been chosen  by the strees boys who sell newspaper in the area Tugu Muda Semarang is the Javanese speech that is ngoko lugu and ngoko alus the informal of Indonesian speech. Besides, it was also found that the chosen of the language of the street boys who sell newspaper in the Indonesian language and Javanese language in the form of single language, code switching, and code mixing. The speech influenced by the background factor (time and place) and situation, the participants factor in the interaction, speech factor, and the factor of the language of the street boys who sell newspaper dominate by Javanese language. The street boys who sell newspaper it is better to be selective in choosing vocabulary and Javanese language’s diversity when saying, so the value of the street boys have a good value and have well mannered in the eye of the society.

AbstrakPenelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendapatkan pemahaman tentang fenomena alih kode dan campur kode yang terjadi dalam interaksi guru dan siswa SD Negeri 14 Gurun Laweh Padang dalam proses belajar-mengajar di kelas. ini merupakan penelitian kualitatif dengan metode etnografi komunikasi. Penelitian ini dilakukan di kelas kelas satu dan lima SD Negeri 14 Gurun Laweh Padang selama tiga bulan, September hingga November 2016. Penelitian ini menerapkan teknik analisis data siklus Spardley. Penelitian Etnografi yang terdiri dari empat langkah: analisis domain, analisis taksonomi, analisis komponen makna, dan analisis tema budaya. Hasil penelitian ini adalah sebagai berikut: (1) Bentuk alih kode guru dan siswa adalah alih kode internal; (2) Penyebab alih kode dan campur kode oleh guru dan siswa adalah penutur dan lawan tutur; (3) Fungsi alih kode dan campur kode untuk guru adalah untuk memberikan intruksi yang efektif, untuk menyederhanakan penyampaian materi, sedangkan fungsi alih kode dan campur kode untuk siswa adalah untuk membuat lebih mudah bagi mereka untuk menyampaikan ide-ide mereka atau berpikir; (4) Dampak alih kode dan campur kode adalah pergeseran bahasa, terjadinya penyimpangan di tingkat bahasa (interferensi), budaya alih kode dan campur kode pemakaian bahasa Indonesia dalam interaksi guru dan siswa dalam proses pembelajaran di kelas.Kata kunci: alih kode, campur kode, pemakaian bahasa Indonesia, etnografi komunikasi.AbstractThis study aimed to get understanding of the phenomena of code switching and code-mixing which occured in the interaction of teachers and students of 14 Public Primary School Gurun Laweh Padang in the process of teaching and learning in the classroom. ABSTRAKFungsi pilihan kode tutur dapat diartikan sebagai penggunaan pilihan kode dalam suatu tuturan. Adapun, tujuan penelitian ini ialah menganalisis fungsi pilihan kode tutur dalam ceramah K.H. Anwar Zahid, Ustaz Abdul Somad, dan Ki Joko Goro-Goro. Data dikumpulkan dengan metode simak. Analisis data dilakukan dengan menggunakan metode padan, metode kontekstual, serta dilakukan dengan teknik baca markah. Berdasarkan hasil analisis data, kode yang ditemukan dalam ceramah K.H. Anwar Zahid, Ustaz Abdul Somad, dan Ki Joko Goro-Goro adalah kode yang berasal dari kode Jawa, Indonesia, Sunda, Inggris, Arab, dan Melayu. Pilihan kode tutur yang ditemukan dalam ceramah berbentuk alih kode, campur kode, dan tunggal kode. Fungsi pilihan kode tutur yang dominan muncul adalah representasi nilai pendidikan, ajang eksistensi dan sarana komunikasi, serta sarana kontrol terhadap masyarakat.ABSTRACTThe speech code choice function can be interpreted as the use of choice of code in a speech. Meanwhile, the objective of this study is to analyze the speech code choice function in the speeches of K.H. Anwar Zahid, Ustaz Abdul Somad, and Ki Joko Goro-Goro. The data were collected by simak method. The data analysis was conducted by using matched method, contextual method, and also by mark reading technique. Based on the results of data analysis, the code found in the K.H. Anwar Zahid, Ustaz Abdul Somad,and Ki Joko Goro-Goro speeches are codes derived from Java, Indonesian, Sundanese, English, Arabic and Malay codes. The speech code choice found in the speech is the form of code switching, code mixing, and single code. The dominant of speech code choice function is the representation of educational values, the arena of existence and means of communication, and the means of control over society.

ABSTRACT The phenomenon of code switching and code mixing currently occurs in many societies. Especially with the easy process of information obtained makes someone experience code switching and code mixing. In this study aims to describe the existence of code mixing and code switching on songs, also the causes of code switching and code mixing on speakers of bilingualism. Code mixing and code switching often occur among speech communities. Data analysis methods used in this study are 1) see method 2) descriptive research method. This method is very suitable and suitable to examine the existence of mixed codes and code switching on the Project Pop Dangdut song is The Music of My Country. There are six causes of code mixing and code switching, namely 1) speakers, 2) interlocutors, 3) the presence of a third speaker, 4) subject matter, 5) to develop a sense of humor, and 6) to be prestigious. The results of this study indicate the existence of mixed codes and code switching on the song. Namely the mixture of Indonesian, Javanese and English.Keywords: code mixing, code switching, sociolinguistics, songABSTRAK Fenomena alih kode dan campur kode saat ini banyak terjadi pada masyarakat. Apalagi dengan mudahnya proses informasi yang didapatkan membuat seseorang mengalami alih kode dan campur kode. Dalam penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan adanya campur kode dan alih kode pada lagu, juga penyebab terjadinya alih kode dan campur kode pada penutur bilingualisme. Campur kode dan alih kode sering terjadi di antara masyarakat tutur. Metode analisis data yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah 1) metode simak 2) metode penelitian deskriptif. Metode ini sangat sesui dan cocok untuk mengkaji adanya campur kode dan alih kode pada lagu Project Pop Dangdut is The Music of My Country. Ada enam penyebab campur kode dan alih kode, yaitu 1) penutur, 2) lawan tutur, 3) hadirnya penutur ketiga, 4) pokok pembicaraan, 5) untuk mengembangkan rasa humor, dan 6) untuk bergengsi. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan adanya campur kode dan alih kode pada lagu tersebut. Yaitu campur kode bahasa Indonesia, bahasa Jawa dan bahasa Ingris.
