Physical education instructors should possess personal and professional competences for working with children and teaching sports; such profession imposes numerous requirements that have to be fulfilled by a specialist. The established situation affects the human resource potential in this sphere and prospects overall. The conducted empirical research reveal correlation between the importance of the subject of “physical culture” in school and popularity of the specialty of physical culture among graduates. It was determined the students’ attitude on the subject of “physical culture” in many ways depends on personality of the pedagogue. At the same time, in modern school, the pedagogues face pressure from the school community, which reduces the importance of this subject and its educational potential. All of these facts shape students’ opinion on the profession of physical culture instructor as an unpromising specialty. The school experience of physical culture later manifests in the university. An assessment of the formation of general cultural and professional competencies of students of future teachers of the subject of physical education in the conditions of distance learning was carried out. A study was organized consisting in comparing the assessments of graduate qualification works of bachelors of physical education by sophomore students conducted as part of classes in the subject: "Fundamentals of scientific and methodological activities" at the Faculty of Physical Culture of Moscow State Regional University in May-June 2020, with the final assessments of the state certification commission. It was established that the shortcomings of distance learning, according to the students surveyed, include: an increase in the volume of homework, technical problems with electronic communication, a lack of live communication with teachers and fellow students and hypodynamy. The advantages of distance learning by students included: saving time and money for moving, conducting classes in a comfortable home environment, flexibility in training planning and the ability to learn new courses. A study of the homogeneity of a group of respondents found that according to examination estimates, students were divided into two groups (with high and low grades), and according to the attendance of classes into three groups of students: absentees who go through the lesson and attend constantly. At the same time, approximately 29% of the assessment in the exam is determined by the number of visits to classes. In the remote format, attendance significantly increased by 12% (t-criterion) from the initial to the quarantine period. It is also determined that 13% of the value of the final assessment of graduate qualification works is determined by the personality of the student expert in the sample under study, and not by the content of the applicant's report and presentation. As a result of cluster analysis, three clusters of expert students are identified, differing in levels of responsibility, social and cognitive intelligence. It was established that criterion-evaluation competencies in terms of assessing knowledge in the subject area of "physical culture" are formed in most students by the end of the second year. More than 80% of sophomore students begin to evaluate graduate work almost the same as members of the state certification commission

In order to identify existing problems and prospects for the development of the ethno-sports movement in order to further expand the sphere of physical culture and sports in the region, the article analyses the formation and development of ethnic sports in the Sverdlovsk region. The study has been conducted for several years with the employement of such methods as questionnaires and social surveys, the analysis of literature and official documents, the projection method. The survey questions concerned the awareness of students of the Institute of Physical Education regarding the development of ethno-sports in the country and in the region. A low level of awareness of the development of the ethno-sports field among Bachelors of Physical Education was identified, which is a main problem of the subject matter. As a result of the deep research into problems of the promotion of ethnic sports, it was decided to elaborate and implement the pilot project ‘ETHNIC Festival’ aimed at the popularisation of ethnic sports in the city of Yekaterinburg. An analysis of official documents has shown that the region is now actively developing federations for traditional Russian sports, however, they are not very popular among the population. The current activities in the field of ethno-sports are not sufficient to attract the general public to the process. The obtained data indicated the urgency of the popularisation and cultivation of national sport disciplines and competitions. A sociological survey of EthnoFestival participants showed that one of the ways to revive national games and sports is to hold mass events to popularise ethno-culture.

Using a set of research methods (content analysis of legal documents, systematization, comparison and generalization of data of scientific and methodical literature and Internet sources, pedagogical observations, interviews, conversations, questionnaires, methods of mathematical statistics) it was found that the content and structure of the updated curriculum «Physical Education» in 2012 y. and 2017 y. has significant advantages over the program of 2008 y. on the formation of younger adolescents' motivation to engage in physical culture. Content analysis of physical education curricula (until 2012), as well as questionnaires, interviews, surveys and interviews with students showed, that is the reason for the low growth rate of motivation of younger adolescents to exercise there are both ingrained requirements for the assessment of student achievement and non-orientation of the subject curriculum «Physical Education» to take into account the wishes, interests and individual characteristics of the latter. Installed, that is an important factor in positively influencing the motivation of younger adolescents to physical education classes is both the improvement of the content component of the program and the system of assessment of student achievement, which plays the role of a stimulating factor for physical education.

Without mathematical calculations and examining only our surroundings we can state that about 30% of children around us are engaged in sports, another 10% are engaged in activities such as dancing or singing if, of course, there is an adequate centre or a music school in the area of residence, the other 10% of schoolchildren have involvement in various fields. Thus, almost 50% of children around remain disengaged. The only place to fill this gap is school. In order to organize the research, we had a preliminary conversation with the physical education teachers of schools from different administrative districts. In addition, literary sources were studied, mathematical statistics were carried out. The study involved 30 schoolchildren of different genders and ages who participate in sports and those who don’t participate in sports. In the scope of the research schoolchildren were surveyed through questionnaire composed of 13 points.
