In modern conditions, the issues of assessing the sustainability of regional development are of particular relevance. The complex problems of interrelation of economic growth, environmental pollution and population well-being require the development and use of new, simpler and more understandable ap-proaches for decision makers to assess, analyze, and predict sustainability at the regional level. The pur-pose of the article is to investigate the opportunities for sustainable development of the regions of the European North included in the Arctic zone, and to develop methods for forecasting their socio-environmental and economic development based on sustainability window assessment. The dynamics of changes in the relationship between environmental, social and economic indicators with the use of pollu-tion functions is analyzed. The main factors contributing to the reduction of environmental pollution and increase of the population's well-being are identified. It is shown that structural changes in the regional economy and environmental investments have the greatest effect. A methodology for calculating sustainability windows for the regional economy is presented. The possibility of using the method has been demonstrated using data from the Republic of Karelia. A scenario of sustainable development based on the restriction of economic growth for some regions and the requirements for the structure of the economy has been developed. The results obtained can be used as an informational and methodological basis for assessing and elaborating sustainable development policies in the Arctic regions.

The need to create conditions for attracting capital, which is the basis of economic growth in modern conditions, is particularly important. The improvement of mechanisms for reinvesting capital in economic growth and development is directly related to the macroeconomic mechanism itself. At the same time, the state is both the main initiator of investment policy and an investor. In this regard, the direct availability of an effective investment strategy and its high-quality implementation can significantly increase investment attractiveness at the level of the state, as well as at the level of the region or any subject. The systematic and systematic nature of investment activity implies the existence of mechanisms for attracting and implementing investments that significantly increase their effectiveness. The most complete and effective implementation of the capabilities of any subject is possible only with a systematic strategic approach. The state of the investment climate of the Republic of Crimea is the basis for decision-making by investors, so one of the main tasks of the region is to create a favorable investment environment by implementing a long-term investment development strategy. By implementing an investment policy, the state and the regions, including Crimea, strive to achieve economic security, rationally deploy productive forces, strengthen their own industrial base as a whole, and structurally restructure the regional economy, thereby ensuring sufficient capital inflows for economic sectors and increasing their own competitiveness.

This study investigates the role of workers’ remittances in promoting economicgrowth in Pakistan, using data from 1976-2017. Remittances are an important sourceof Sharia-compliant (mostly) FX inflows, which may contribute to the economicdevelopment of many Islamic and non-Islamic economies. Nonetheless, they aremore relevant to Islamic economies, as they could potentially reduce therequirements of interest-based FX financing from donor agencies and/or from globalcapital markets. The impact of workers’ remittances on the economic growth ofIslamic developing economies remains a little explored area. Our research, whichemploys a case study of Pakistan, is first in this direction. We used the GMMestimation procedure to obtain efficient estimates in the presence of endogeneity andsimultaneity bias. Our estimates show that an increase in remittance inflowspositively affects the economic growth of Pakistan. The increase in per capita GDPcould be primarily due to an increase in the consumption of low-income recipients. Itis likely that this consumption demand promotes investment activity; however, thestudy could not establish the impact of remittances on such activity.
