The listening skills is viewed as an important skill to master, because from listening we can understand what are people saying, we can get the meaning of every words that speaker talk about, and it is important in process of listening comprehension. The Objective of this research is to find out the perception of fifth semester students of Widya Gama Mahakam Samarinda University in learning listening comprehension. In this research the main theories from Gay (2006) and from (Howitt &amp; Cramer, 2009). The researcher uses Descriptive Quantitative research. The subject of this study was the fifth semester students of English Department at Widya Gama Mahakam Samarinda University. The researcher uses a questionnaire as an instrument to collect the data, and then representing the data in analysis and concluding the result of analysis. The result of questionnaire showed that students perception toward the strategies in learning listening were 12 students or 171% very often used Social strategies, 15 students or 171% often used Affective and Compensation strategies.<strong> </strong>

This study is aimed to identify the difficulties to comprehend listening activities experienced by students and their strategies in understanding Listening Comprehension section of TOEIC test. Descriptive qualitative method was employed to find out and analyze the difficulties and strategies the students implemented. The research was carried out at English Department of Politeknik Negeri Bandung with the population of the third semester students in Academic Year 2017/2018.  There were 22 students as the subject in this study. Data were collected by questionnaires and interview to confirm students’ answers. The results showed that the major problems encountered by students were unfamiliar vocabulary, accents of the speaker, speed of speech, lack of concentration, and quality of recorded materials. Listening strategies implemented by students were mostly metacognitive strategy since in this strategy they obtain the awareness of the materials they are listening to in a more cautious way. This method is about the ways of planning, monitoring and assessing the collected information from the listening section the same as pre listening activities. Students applying metacognitive strategies have the benefits such as they can use appropriate learning strategy to master learning materials; they comprehend learning materials more quickly and integrate the knowledge seriously; they put themselves to be loyal receivers and can be properly adaptable to all conditions; they have high confidences in themselves to get help when needed from their peers, teachers, or family; they pay attention to the materials and assess themselves as to how to be successful learners; and they properly deal with the problems in doing their task. Keywords: Students’ Difficulties, Listening Comprehension, Listening Strategies

This research is motivated by the lack of listening skills obtained by the students, it is seen from the results of an assessment of the listening skills of students still achieved an average grade 56.32 or reach under the KKM predetermined value is 70. This study aims to determine whether the Team Learning model Listener can improve listening skills of students in the subject of Indonesian student Class V SD Negeri 007 Pagaran Tapah Darussalam Rokan Hulu. The subjects were 38 students in the academic year 2014-2015. Form of research is classroom action research. The data collection technique used is the technique of test and non test. Based on the results, it can be concluded that the ability to listen to the story class V students of SD Negeri 007 Pagaran Tapah Darussalam Rokan Hulu can be improved by applying the learning model listener team. On average ability to listen to stories of students in the early test is average with the average value of 56.32 by the medium category, and in the first cycle rose to 69.47 in the medium category, while in the second cycle listening skills of students categorized as high with the percentage of the average value of 76, 58 with a high category. Therefore, the success rate has exceeded 70 of the total number of students, which means that most students have achieved success predetermined value (minimum 75%).

All English departments provide the listening courses that must be studied by their students. In fact, the students often find difficulties in understanding the listening texts so that their listening comprehension becomes low. This condition also happens to the students of English department of UNHASY. One of the causes of it is the teaching strategy for listening which is not appropriate. Therefore, the researcher implemented frontloading strategy for teaching listening in this study. The purpose of this study was to know whether or not frontloading strategy influenced the students’ listening comprehension. The research method used was quasi experiment with the design of pretest posttest nonequivalent control group. The population and the sample of the research were the two classes of the second semester students of English education department of UNHASY in the academic year of 2018/2019. After the implementation of frontloading strategy in experimental class and direst listening in control class, the students’ post listening comprehensions were compared by using independent sample t-test whose result was that sig. (2-tailed) (0.004) was lower than 0.05. In short, it is concluded that frontloading strategy influences students’ listening comprehension.

<p>This study deals with the effect of hamburger strategy on writing descriptive text. Hamburger strategy is a writing organizer strategy that visually outlines the key components of a paragraph. When writing by using hamburger strategy, the students will learn to remember how to build the paragraph and the importance of each component. It was conducted by using experimental quantitative research. The population of this study is the first semester  students of English Department Nommensen Medan. The writer takes 50 students as the sample and they are devided into two groups by using random sampling. The first group was  group A as Experimental class which is taught by implementing hamburger strategy while the second group is Group B as control class which is taught by using conventional method. Oral test is used  as the instrument of collecting the data. This test consists of two types, namely pre-test and post-test. The data were analyzed by using t-test formula. The calculation shows t-observed that is 3. 58, which  is higher than t-table that is 1.676 at the level significance  (p: 0.05) with the degree of freedom (df) 48. It means that Ha is accepted while Ho is rejected, therefore it is concluded that hamburger  strategy  significantly affects on writing descriptive text of the first semester students of English Department in Nommensen University Medan academic year 2016/2017. It is suggested for the students of English Department as source of valuable knowledge and information when conducting a research related to the study. The aim of this research was to know perception of watching English movie on Youtube at the second semester the second semester of English department Islamic University of Kalimantan of the 2018/2019 academic year. The subject of this research is the students of class regular A. The instrument used in the data collection was a questionnaire that consist of two part, the first part to find out the students who ever watched English movie on Youtube and the second part to know students’ perception use of watching English movie on Youtube. The data were analyzed using statistical  and shown in tables of frequency.The finding showed that by watching English movie on Youtube English  movie has an influenced for those students in improving their English achievement, then  help them to learn new vocabulary and could be one of  the effective  media in learning English Achievement.  Keywords : learning english, English movie, Youtube

Language learning strategy is one of the influential aspects for students’ success in learning a language. Basically, language learning strategies are closely related to students taking language-related department. However, students from non-English Department also have the indication of using the strategies since English is one of the subjects taught in the curriculum. Thus this study aims to (1) identify what strategies are used by non-English Department students in Listening class and (2) describes to how the use of strategies influence students listening achievement. This study is a qualitative descriptive study with second-semester students from Governmental Science Department as the research subject. A questionnaire, observation, and documentation are used to collect the data. After analyzing the data, it was found that some strategies are used by non-English department students in their Listening subject, namely memory strategies, cognitive strategies, compensation strategies, metacognitive strategies, affective strategies, and social strategies. Moreover, the students use those strategies in moderate level. Thus, a comparison between the level of strategies use and students’ listening scores is made to describe to what extends the use of strategies influence students’ achievements.

This study aims to determine the effectiveness of tutoring on learning difficulties of students of class XII MA Muallimin NW Gunung Rajak. The subjects that are the focus of research are Chemistry subjects. This research is a quantitative research with experimental design. The subject of this study was students of class XII IPA MA Muallimin NW Gunung Rajak. Data collection techniques using questionnaires, documentation, interviews, and observations. The implementation of tutoring given to students who have effective learning difficulties in improving learning outcomes of students of class XII IPA MA Muallimin NW Gunung Rajak in the academic year 2018/2019. This can be seen from the acquisition of values ​​in statistical analysis of 3.991. This value is greater than the value of ttable at the significance level of 5% which is equal to 1.658 and at the 1% significance level of 2.358. Therefore, the implementation of tutoring is effective in overcoming student learning difficulties, especially in Chemistry subjects.

This study aimed to find out the most dominant listening strategies used by the students and to determine the correlation between the use of listening strategies and their listening comprehension. The type of the research was quantitative with correlational design. This study used a population of the 4th semester students of English Education Study Program, University of Riau Kepulauan, in which the sample was selected by total sampling technique. Data were collected by using listening strategy questionnaire and listening test. To analyze the data, descriptive statistics (Mean and Standard Deviation) were used to find out the most dominant strategies to the ones that were rarely used by students in completing listening comprehension task. Second, to find out whether or not  there was a significant correlation between listening strategies used and listening skills, the data were analyzed by  using Pearson Correlation to determine the correlation between two variables, listening strategies and listening comprehension.

Listening is a challenging sll for my EFL learners. They seem to do the assignment without showing good comprehension on their answers. This research aims to find out the students’ problems in listening comprehension and identify the factors contributing to the problems. The second semester students in academic year 2017/2018 are the subject of the research. The data were collected by using observation, interview and documentation. The results of the research showed that the students still have low listening comprehension. The most difficult indicator of listening comprehension is making inference. There are only 28% students can answer the questions related making inference. The students also have low confidence in listening skill. They cannot concentrate well in listening to the spoken texts. Those problems are influenced by two factors, internal and external factors. Understanding students' problems leads to the idea of providing better strategies and materials in learning activities.

The aim of the research is to improve the students’ vocabulary through the use of Glossing technique. The design of this research is quantitative research through pre-experimental design with pre-test and post-test design This study was conducted at SMP Anugrah  Tondano. The subject of the research was the second grade students in academic year of 2019/2020. The writer used reading text of Narrative text .The result of the data analysis showed that there was an increase between the pre-test and post-test. It can be seen from 10 students showed that the mean score of  pre-test was 53 and  post-test was 74 score. Based  on this finding from this study, it can be concluded that having more vocabulary significantly affects the comprehension of the students reading activity. Moreover by having many vocabulary the students can easily get the information and can enrich their knowledge by reading a lot of book. Finally, this research proved that theGlossing technique effective to improve student’s vocabulary in reading comprehension.
